Mark and I switched all of our business to this vet service after Dr. Rush left Dekalb Animal Hospital - unfortunately service declined and prices increased Our neighbors recommended Dr. Katz and his practice to us and we are very happy with the service and pricing. We have both dogs and cats. Dr. Katz and his staff are caring and patient and addressed all of our concerns regarding health issues with our older pets. We never felt like we were being "upsold" as part of a sales goal like we experienced at other vet offices for unnecessary testing or expensive treatments. We adore the folks at North DeKalb Veterinary. Dr Lloyd has long been known as the cat whisperer. I saw why at my first visit in 2022, when he was able to efficiently and accurately diagnose a chronic case that stumped three other Vets. They are now our first call when we realize we have a foster cat with a potentially medically complicated or confusing case. Doctor Lloyd has been able to help us get answers and better understand treatment options for medical multiple foster kitties for us over the last few years - from an older kitten who kept getting high fevers and bizarre symptoms, a young cat that showed signs of feline hyperesthesia, a tiny kitten who turned out to have a rare congenital cardiac condition (both are adults and doing great!), our own sweet but very skittish cat who needed complicated dental surgery, and a geriatric sweetheart with a laundry list of medical issues who found himself on an EU list at a rural shelter, Dr Lloyd helped us understand what to look out for with his conditions and what to balance in his treatment plan for best quality of life during his hospice foster time with us. They have always taken the time not only to explain any findings or recommendations and answer questions, but to make sure the cat had the best possible experience during the exam with the least amount of stress. The bedside manner grabbed my attention before they'd even had a chance to show the medical brilliance. I felt bad at first booking my resident cats for an appointment bc it seemed greedy to use that sort of amazing diagnostic and treatment planning ability to just give a routine check up and vaccines, but I'm so, so, so glad we did Eternal gratitude to these folks, especially Dr. Lloyd. read more

I have had great experience here before, but it highly depends on who answers the phone. My dog had a stomach virus and I was looking to bring her in quickly to get some medicine. The young woman vet who answered the phone said, "Sorry. We can't see her if she's not an existing patient." I couldn't remember if I had brought her there before because she's only one year old. The vet didn't bother looking up in their records to verify because, in fact, she had been seen by them for her annual visit before. I was forced to go to an emergency clinic, despite it being during regular business hours, because they couldn't be bothered to look up my record and refused to help. I was incredibly disappointed. I did send an email on their feedback form and received ZERO response. Apparently, they don't care how they treated me or my animals. DO NOT USE THEM. read more

I have unfortunately lost the love of my life, my cat, after a very sudden onset of symptoms and the discovery of a lymphoma mass in her intestines. It is never what I thought I would hear, it seems like something that happens to other people, never my baby. But through this horrible, horrible ordeal, Dr. Lloyd was a bright light. Even when he was telling me things I'd rather not be true, I am grateful for his kindness and knowledge. I felt that he did everything he could, gave me all possible answers and options, and worked to keep me informed as quickly as he could. From Dr. Bell/Dr. Katz to the receptionist and staff, everyone was warm, welcoming, knowledgeable. Update: From my last review, i had to take my dog Beemer in for an visit for an issue that I thought was nothing. Dr. Katz and his team used their best judgement, and ordered tests based on their best assessment and because of that quick thinking Dr. Katz and team saved my dog's life. For that i am grateful. Dr. Katz made himself available even on his out of office day and ensured he got back to me soon as he received results. I had an appointment to drop off my dog for a routine checkup. I called the number and waited in my car for them to pickup my dog. They said they would be out to get him. After 30 minutes of no one coming out. I went inside and asked if I could leave my dog I had been waiting awhile. The receptionist immediately freaked out and the good Dr. Max comes out and tells me to leave. I told him I was waiting awhile he immediately gets mad said he didn't care, "people wait 3 hrs". I asked do I need to reschedule he said he didn't know. He yelled he was tired of people complaining and not going to hear it anymore. He said he had a bad day and guess what, that's not my problem. If you were good at communicating with your customers it would eliminate this issue. He then asked who I was here to see and said I'm sure you don't even know. Complete asshole. Everyone has bad days don't take it out on customers. He went inside and said I was next. Definitely an overreaction, no apology offered on his part. Clearly they don't need your business or mine. Go somewhere that values and appreciates their customers. He's too stressed out to worry about your animals. read more

North DeKalb Veterinary is the best veterinarian around. They performed a very difficult operation on our 12 year old basset hound and did an outstanding job. Dr. Bell is extremely kind and loves animals. She showed great concern for our dog, taking a great amount of time to thoroughly explain to us what the issues were and what the medical plan was. We've been going to Dr. Katz for 19 years. How is that possible?! I absolutely love everyone there. Dr. Katz is the most amazing leader of the practice. Eileen is one of the best office workers out there. I'm horrible with names and I've always remembered hers because she is so amazing! Dr. Bell is one of the best surgeons around and I love how she is always so cautious and looking out for every pet out there. And, I'm sorry to not name each and every staff person but I don't think I'm allowed that much space in a review. We've had several pets and each one has gotten the best care possible. This vet clinic experience is going to be my new measuring stick against any other animal care needs I have in the future. The whole team at North Dekalb Vet is absolutely amazing. The ladies answering the phone, who are also the front desk team, are warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and proactive. They go out of their way to make my life easier when it comes to tracking down previous pet records, or refilling prescriptions, or scheduling appointments. They are the only vet clinic receptionists I have ever actually looked forward to calling, knowing that they do live answering (no unfriendly automated machines), and that I can actually rely on them to return my calls in a reasonable amount of time. Beyond that, our vet Dr. Sylvia Bell, is the most amazing veterinary care provider I've ever had the luck of stumbling across! She was able to squeeze our pup in for a last minute surgery, and was even available for post-op questions outside of office hours. She doesn't "push" treatments that we don't need just to make a buck. She may have given me unrealistic expectations for the future because there is no way that I'm ever going to find a better vet than her! I can't say enough about this wonderful team. I was a walk-in. And it was my first visit. My recently adopted beagle was in intermittent pain and I could not figure out what was hurting her! I looked up on yelp to find good vets near me and showed up. Even though they were almost fully booked, they squeezed us in. My dog got a detailed exam and found the cause to be in her neck, possibly a disc. Since xray doesn't show soft tissues, my dog was prescribed a steroid, pain pill, and muscle relaxer. 24 hours later, she's much improved. Thanks! read more

Wow, been using this vet for years and since I lost my job 15 months ago, I decided to shop around prices. When we first got our pup, Katie, we decided on this place because it was right down the street - we didn't shop prices because I thought all vets were similarly priced. WRONG. I have adopted two more dogs since Katie and when it was time to get Delilah's bortadella vacc, I called around to see who could do it the cheapest. Out of three other vets, NDVC was the most expensive coming in at $75 versus the cheapest $25 at Dearborn Animal Hospital. They have great service and great vets, but I can't help but think of the hundreds or thousands I have wasted on their over-priced vet care. Bummer. read more

My husband brought his cats to Dr. Lloyd when he first started practicing. I'm not sure how long ago that was, but I've brought my crew to him since 2000 and he has to be one of the most competent, compassionate vets I've ever had. I've heard him referred to as the "cat whisperer!" - he is really good with a panicked feline patient. I've also got to mention that when I had an older cat with a lot of chronic care needs, Dr. Lloyd found ways to help me control some of the medication costs, which helped a lot. I don't have a dog, but dog owners I know also rave about Dr. Katz and he has been great filling in for Dr. Lloyd when he was out of town and one of our cats had an emergency. Dr. Bell is relatively new to the practice but she fits right in with the same kind of commitment to care as her coworkers. The only complaint I've ever had is at one point one of the techs was kind of impolite over the phone, not just to me, but someone I referred there. That was a long time ago and that person is long gone. The rest of the techs and office staff have been there a long time and do a really great job. I have cats that are family. I have sought great, compassionate care all over this part of town, and found 1) a doctor that pressured me to do treatment that I wasn't comfortable with 2) an alarmist vet that convinced me every problem was potentially terminal and suggested lots of expensive diagnostics 3) a very compassionate pair of vets that were too far to be convenient and FINALLY I came to North Dekalb Veterinary Clinic. From my first visit I felt comfortable and welcomed. Dr. Bell explained and re-explained my elderly cat's information in clear and non-alarming ways. She stayed late to allow me to pick up medication for him. The office staff met me 15 minutes before opening time so that I could drop my kitty for some diagnostics, and the technician called me so I could pick my boy up earlier than expected. While we were on track toward determining what was causing my cat's weight loss Dr. Bell was clear about options for each step, and she considered the best options for my cat, for our family, and she was always very clear about the costs of each avenue. She also explained things in a way that was very calming. Once we determined that my cat needed to see a specialist Dr. Bell gave me options about the clinics in our area, and since he started treatment, Dr. Bell has called every week to check on his progress and offer information and support. Finally, when I was out of town and my catsitter couldn't give my cat his meds they allowed her to bring him to the office so they could administer his medication at no charge. I have since moved away from Atlanta, but I deeply miss Dr. Katz and his vet clinic. While living in Atlanta, I went to Dr. Katz for three and a half years. Never have I felt so comfortable and so confident in a vet. Dr. Katz is extremely knowledgeable, honest, and caring. I had adopted a retired seeing eye dog who was sick for the entire year I had the pleasure of having her in my life. He helped me through every ear infection, allergy reaction, and eventual kidney failure. My subsequent labs were lucky to be Dr. Katz's patients as well. There are things that Dr. Katz does that just show he cares. First of all, he goes down to the floor to examine big dogs, he doesn't put big dogs on examining tables like I've seen numerous vets do. Dr. Katz calls you at the end of the day after a office visit to make sure you pet is doing ok. Dr. Katz goes above and beyond to help his patients. I truly miss him and his clinic. I live in Chicago now, and in the past few years, I have been to 5 different vets. I still have not found one I trust as much as I trust Dr. Katz. read more

Dr. Katz is awesome! He goes above and beyond his job to make sure the animals and their parents are well taken care of. Recently, I took my dog in for an ear infection and received proper medicine. He then followed up that evening which made me feel great! I then was going on a trip the same week out of the country and my pup had a reaction while I was away. We went to another vet in Decatur with our last dog and our current dog (less than two), when he was a puppy, but switched to North Dekalb to get the personal experience we were looking for. We found that in Dr. Katz. He helped our dog and us through a really significant medical emergency with such intellectual vigor and compassion. He is also well connected with specialists at Blue Pearl and went out of his way, on his day off, to conduct consultations with neurological specialists and call us multiple times to relay information and check on us and our pup. I have been a patient at North Dekalb for over 12 years now. We take all 5 of our animals ( 3 cats and 2 dogs) there for care. While I agree, they can be a little higher price wise, i think you get what you pay for. As we are loyal customers, they have remained loyal to us. They are more than our vets they have become friends. As our friend they help us out by giving our cat fluids for free twice a week and make it seem like it is just part of the service ( we tried it ourselves and our cat was very difficult). They take the necessary time with each animal when we go in and give us the choices we need to make an educated decision about each of our pets. Thank you for truly caring. read more

We have five cats. At one point we had a string of things going on and I was acually the Foursquare mayor of the place. We've been patrons for over 15 years and even adopted Pickles, one of Dr. Lloyd's rescue kittehs, back in 2002; she's still going strong thanks to their help with her thyroid issues. The staff is compassionate and caring; there was not a dry eye in the house the day we brought our 22 year old Siamese Mimi in for the last time. Dr. Lloyd even devised a fairly successful treatment for our acromegalic, diabetic, insulin-resistant enormo-cat Fuzzy that extended his life.
