I was lucky to hear about him from our wedding venue owner- I asked for any videographer recommendations, and she had one name - David Lee Ethridge at AVR Films. She had previously worked the wedding circuit as a photographer/MUA and had worked with David countless times. I knew it was the perfect fit once I had my initial phone call with Dave to discuss the wedding. Just from the call I could get a good sense of his enthusiasm, experience, and that he took great pride in his work. He was so excited to film at my venue since he had been there once before and was already talking about the shots/angles he would execute the day of. I felt confident once I could tell he had a clear vision of how he would capture our wedding in that intimate venue setting. He was also very down to earth and really easy to talk to - it put me at ease when I was planning the wedding(which of course can be stressful!). When I first met David my mother was sold. We met him at a Bridal Fair where he is able to talk himself into being hired. David is a very nice person and has a good pitch that makes brides feel as if they could not not have him at their wedding. He claims to capture every moment so as for the bride and groom to experience what they missed on the actual day. For the wedding day itself, David did fine, I didn't notice him being in the way or anything of that nature. However, he is very "particular" and refuses to eat vendor meals. Really? You are working not there to eat. Reading the contract is something that I really recommend. David wants to be paid in full, but will take over a year to actually complete your video. I would fight this if I were you. Never pay someone in full until you receive your product. After the wedding we didn't hear from David for a very long time. When I emailed him to check in to see how the progress was going he told me that he thought it would be done by Thanksgiving, which was about 8 months later. Of course that was not the case. He finally had a copy ready for us to look at in late Feb. So 11 months later. This was the first time we had ever seen ANY of the footage he shot at the wedding. When picking up the video of course he thought it was perfect. Let me assure you IT WAS NOT. Transitions were bad and it was simply incomplete. It took 5 times of my husband and I combing through the video giving specific times in order to get the video to the quality in which I thought I was getting when I hired him. Also, when asking about footage, everything I asked about he claimed to not have. He had multiple cameras so that he could "CAPTURE IT ALL". I finally got my video, 16 months after the fact. He cancelled meetings, told me to come get my video and wasn't there, took a long time to respond, couldn't follow written Lists of what to change, and was simply not the professional he sells himself to be for the actual wedding. Everything he said wouldn't take him long took at least a MONTH. Maybe he treats the clients who only can afford the minimum package this way, but I was extremely frustrated trying to work with him after getting the video. It also takes WAY TOO LONG in my personal opinion. read more

We booked AVR for our wedding back in 2010. We fell in love with his work during our consultation. It was a stretch for us to fit him into our budget, but we made it work, even if it was the cheapest package. The wedding day David and his son were great. They were on time and you couldn't even tell that they were filming. The AVR team was very professional. Now, in the contract, they had up to either 10 or 11 months to get your video to you. We didn't get the video until AFTER our 1 year anniversary. We were sending emails and had phone calls in between. But it was taking forever to get the preview and then the video itself. When we finally received it, the picture insert on the DVD's had the wrong names on it! It took him awhile to send us new ones and when he did it wasn't even a picture that was really nice. I have yet to play the DVD's because it's been such a pain trying to get our videos on time. I will say that the slideshow they did was wonderful and we were pleasantly surrprised that they had coverage of the dancing part of our reception. I thought for sure they were already gone by that time because it was over the hours we booked them for. I think they cater to and prefer high-end brides/weddings. At least that was the feeling I got. I subscribed to their FB page and would always see their posts about their weddings and whatnot. Their FB page was always updated and the site to where you view your video was always updated as well. Which was hard for me to understand why it took so darn long to get our video. I just felt like they paid more attention to the couture brides. I would have loved to give more stars because they do good work, but it was a nightmare getting our wedding DVD. They said it was a programming problem with their software, but I just have this gut feeling that it wasn't. read more

Pros: * The final quality of our videos was fantastic and we were very happy with the final product * David does a good job in the videos of mixing together different parts of the day to keep it interesting and varied * Eventually made all the changes we requested to the video * David has a lot of energy and positivity which he brings to the day Neutrals: * David prefers to stage shots (as opposed to capturing candid moments) and has a romantic story in mind that he wants to tell. Depending on what style you prefer, this can be either a pro or a con. Cons: * David bossed around our photographer a little, overriding the style of our photographer to take candid shots that we preferred. In retrospect, we also learned we should have identified that they had different styles, and discussed our preferences beforehand to both. * We went through quite a lot of back-and-forth to get the requested changes we wanted for the videos. David did most the requests on the first pass, but hadn't done some of the more important ones to us, and it took several attempts to get it to finally happen (sometimes due to email responses from him that left it unclear what he would do, or not quite following instructions we'd left on what family shot to include, etc.) Overall, it was still a very positive experience, and the most important thing - the final product - was great! read more

We were completely satisfied and impressed as well as grateful to have been able to work with David Ethridge and his team. Right from the start we looked at online videos and were drawn to the elegance, attention to detail, and comfortable transitions that AVR films displayed. We were then blown away by the genuine person that David is, the high quality of equipment that he uses, and his own personal integrity and passion for his work. Before our wedding day, he took the time to get to know us and understand the kind of wedding ceremony and reception we were planning. He arrived early at our site to make sure he could capture footage of the winery and did some really creative shots like a time lapse of the sun setting and stars/moon coming out. Throughout the day the entire AVR films team (3 videographers) were never obtrusive and worked seamlessly with our other vendors. One of the great things about AVR films is that their equipment allows them to take high quality photos in the midst of their filming. By the next day David had uploaded over 100 beautiful images of our wedding on facebook that we were able to share with our friends and family. We received many compliments on how artistically the pictures had been taken. A week later we had planned an East Coast reception and David was able to put together a video of our vows that we could show to our guests. He went above and beyond by staying up all night to make the necessary edits. When I left, I realized I was no longer nervous but instead felt educated and informed... which put my mind at ease. They made every effort to familiarize themselves with every part of my event, and all vendors involved even if it wasn't directly related to their job. He was in contact with our wedding planner, photographers, and updated his team and myself on questions or updates. I felt a surge of happiness rush through me because he made the effort to drive 1 hour just to attend our Rehearsal. He met each of our bridal party members, officiant, and walked around our venue. He felt it was that important to ensure he was fully prepared prior to our event, even when we didn't expect him to -- He definitely goes the extra mile for his clients! Come the day of the wedding, his team executed their plan of attack seamlessly. They we're prompt, on time, and assumed their rightful positions! Amidst all of the chaos, they were our constant level of peace, balancing the scales. We truly felt they were FRIENDS not just vendors. Any time an inkling of doubt or worry crossed our minds, Dave and Billy we're making us laugh or smile. They were such a comfort and happy light surrounding us. Hiring Dave & AVR Films was the BEST wedding decision that I made. He and his team were an absolute dream to work with. Dave worked directly with me on the wedding day (prior to our ceremony). My bridesmaids adored him and we were all impressed by his ability to fade into the background, while still capturing the memorable, special, and sentimental moments. Dave and his team were professional, spirited, kind hearted and accommodating. Looking back at the whole wedding experience, there was never a moment when I felt his cameras were intruding on my day. In fact, there were actually many times when I didn't even notice him and his talented team doing their stellar work. My husband and I often reflect on our entire wedding day and one moment always sticks out in our mind. After our ceremony, our photographer and Dave took pictures of us inside and around the church. They suggested that we take some photos in front of a brightly painted red wall (which ended up looking AMAZING). My husband and I were doing different poses against the wall and we looked down and saw Dave---- lying on his side IN a street gutter, legs spread out, one arm propping him up, fully within the dirty San Francisco gutter--- taking the most BEAUTIFUL VIDEO and PHOTOS ever! That is true commitment. My husband and I still laugh about that to this day. Dave also has the ability to take screen shots from his video to supplement the photographers work. In fact, just ONE day after our wedding Dave e-mailed us several photographs he had taken from his video and posted them to Facebook for all of our family & friends to view. It was so thoughtful and kind of Dave to share those moments with us right after the wedding. We were expecting to wait months for the first glimpses of our special day. It was such a thoughtful touch! Although we haven't seen the final wedding movie yet (it's only been 1 month since our wedding), Dave has sent us numerous e-mail updates about the progress of our wedding video. We appreciate the commitment, open communication and professionalism in letting us know how the video comes together. I have several friends getting married this summer and they asked me, "what's the most important advice you have?" I always tell them right away--- HIRE a videographer!!! The whole days flies by! There are so many people and moments that you might not get much time to take in and, before you know it, you're just left with memories. If you're lucky--- you will have Dave's creative work to watch time and time again. David Ethridge is without a doubt one of the most talented cinematographers. This is a huge compliment coming from me seeing that I studied film and looked at over 25 wedding videographers before deciding to hire David (I even considered flying one in from out of state). Once I saw David's work, I feel in love... I knew that I couldn't have any other videographer film my wedding. David and his team went above and beyond to ensure that my wedding video was flawless. David came the day before to my rehearsal at no additional charge. He familiarized himself every detail of my wedding and was beyond prepared. The day of the wedding I felt 100% confident and comfortable with David and his team. They showed up 2 hours early to film the bridal party getting ready and every little detail at the venue. David's warm personality is a HUGE bonus. What bride doesn't want a videographer that makes you smile and can get along with anyone? AVR films worked great with the photographers that I hired and they were careful about not being in each others shots. David, knowing that I am passionate about editing, offered to give me the raw footage in addition to the 2 wedding videos he edited for me. Being the impatient person that I am, David let me see the 17 minute video that he created (the disk with everything on it is being mailed). I WAS BLOWN AWAY and could not have asked for a better video. David created a beautiful montage of my wedding day. He intercut the ceremony with the reception and it truly is the work of a talented artist. Now, let's talk business... Unlike most photographers and videographers David stays until he gets all of the shots that he needs. He is not focused on getting paid over time but rather providing amazing videos for his clients. I hired David based on his work, and had not even seen his pricing before I knew I wanted to hire him. That being said, I was very surprised/pleased to see an above average (the best, in fact) videographer with average pricing. Because David is so wonderful he is in high demand so book him early! David will take the time to make your video perfect. He does not follow a formula and every video is unique. I was BEYOND impressed that he was able to finish everything 2 months earlier then expected and I could see the countless hours that he put into the film.
