We've had the pleasure of working with Vijay recently for my son's engagement. Having worked with many photographers over the years through my work in Marketing, I spent a good amount of time sifting through many portfolio's before I selected Vijay. Vijay is a consummate professional, super easy to schedule and requires very little direction. He is personable, patient and thoughtful. He did a pre-engagement shoot at Filoli Gardens. My son and his fiancee were gave raving reviews for him. Looks like Vijay was fun, gave clear instructions and good tips throughout the shoot. I was amazed at the cheerful disposition with which my son came back from the photoshoot, considering he doesn't exactly like being photographed:) That should give you an idea of how easy it is to connect with Vijay. The engagement function was a bit challenging since we had over 150 people and groups were wanting to be photographed with the couple throughout the event; Vijay organized groups with ease, set up his shots and did it efficiently, managing to photograph all our guests. Vijay delivered the photographs from both the shoots very quickly. The results were outstanding. The shoot at Filoli was absolutely stunning! Overall classy, well composed shots, great locations, beautiful angles, excellent work with bright and low lighting, it was truly a joy to see what he was able to produce from each shoot. I originally posted 5 stars but unfortunately the more at I look at my pictures and video of my special day the work was subpar for the price Vijay charges. We had concerns the day off as well but was being nice as our wedding was the first at San Jose Gurudwara and I understand all we're going through challenges associated with Covid. This was dead in middle of Covid, July 2021 I have a little anxiety writing this as lots of others had good experiences. 1) husband said he arrived late to his place hence I waited at the gurudwara for an hour before bharat came, with Vijay's team. 2) my wedding video was so short.. an hour and about 20 minutes. Lots of video of cut out, the main coverage was all just the anand karaj. No food coverage and no video of anyone eating. 3) Lots of photos missing of husband and I during the actually ceremony, all photos were mainly of us touching nose to nose lol nothing else... I wish I had asked for more types of photos. He was 6k for the wedding only which is slot of money for subpar work, again I understand they were a little rusty and we all experienced Covid challenges for the first time. Another big issue is that however his camera lighting was it made me look white ( I'm brown) and I had anxiety over that for a few weeks and hated looking at my pics. The reason I wanted to put this review out is I tried to book the best folks in the business and expected that service and I don't want another brown bride to do through the wedding stress I did. I asked him about is and he answered with some technical lingo which I'm I get but I'm planning to be married once and won't get that day back so it sucks. I paid extra for live coverage so my husbands folks in India could watch it and they had the camera turned upside down for the first 20 minutes. And for some reason he asked me to give my review of that to another customer and still gave good reviews. Im more of a Pocahontas than Snow White. Also I posted the photo I took of my skin tone compared to photos in my album with my face three times as lighter. How have I not reviewed Wedding Documentary yet?! I feel so silly for the lag! I knew I wanted to book Vijay 2 years before I even got engaged. So it turns out, I ended up reserving his services for my wedding about 3 weeks before my now husband had even proposed... talk about jumping the gun! I just could not imagine anyone else capturing my wedding and Vijay can get booked over a year out - he's in very high demand and for good reason!! I used Wedding Documentary for photography for my engagement shoot, my mehndi night, sangeet night, and all day on my wedding day. He did videography too for the 3 wedding days! Aside from the venue expense, Wedding Documentary was my 2nd largest wedding expense and 100% worth every penny! The biggest advantage Vijay has in my personal opinion is the helping hand of Rashmi Rao! Vijay is incredibly good at narrating a shoot and instructing the couple and their friends/family on what to do... Rashmi is excellent at capturing those candid romantic and feminine shots and bring a perfect balance to the team! These guys know what shots to capture in a big fat desi wedding and love to put their own creative spin on the shots. Tips: Indian vendors are notoriously a pain in the bum to work with... Vijay is like a breathe of fresh air. His responses are timely, he is incredibly honest and will not sugarcoat anything, he treats his clients and their vendors with respect, and he makes sure that the product he has delivered is something that the client will like. Part of this is done through his extremely intense survey process - if you want him to deliver something you like, you have to TELL him what you like in this survey. Take your time to fill this stuff out, but make sure you get it to him in time if you want to get your product delivered in time - such as giving him the list of songs you would like in your highlight videos before the wedding or at the latest 1 week after the wedding. Make sure you give the Wedding Documentary team an itinerary before the day of the event which includes ample time for them to take their getting ready shots, pre-ceremony, and pre-reception shots! They captured 2 of my friends weddings the same year as mine and all three of us could have done a better job of planning for that window of time because the bride and groom will definitely want those special shots of the two of them alone or with the bridal party to capture their love for each other outside of the massive family gathering. Lastly, don't hesitate to ask Vijay and Rashmi for advice! They have captured so many weddings by now, they have plenty of does and don'ts to share. I used their input to help book my vendors and venue, plan the wedding schedule, figure out the type of decor that would look best, and get the best location to capture the pictures. Vijay was the one who suggested that I do my engagement shoot in Carmel along the 17 mile drive as SF was already done by so many friends and family, and his suggestion was brilliant! Finally, I came across Vijay on yelp and decided to meet him. I was so impressed with his portfolio; I booked him just a few days later and didn't even bother looking elsewhere. Not to mention, he does BOTH photo and video! How great is it to not have to deal with 2 different people/companies! My fiancé and I are so glad I booked him. We did an engagement shoot 2 months before my wedding and those images were so beautiful, I had him make me a photo guestbook so my guests could see it. Fast forward to 2 days before my wedding when he arrived at my house ready to photograph my henna night. Vijay is one of the photographer who knows what, why and hows of composing the photograph. Unlike some photographers, he is very patient, considerate and puts lot of thought in taking a picture. He did beautiful work then, and he continues to create great wedding videos that are personalized & classy. Many videographers tend to get a bit cheesy with the video editing, but Vijay's video gets tons of compliments from everyone who views it. Vijay at Wedding Documentary is incredible. He filmed and photographed our wedding in January of 2011 (it has taken me a long time to write this review but I had to do it because he is so wonderful) and he did such a fantastic job! He is totally professional, knows the exact shots to take, the lighting, he's original and he knows how to make people feel comfortable so he makes them look their most beautiful. He captured our every special moment on camera and video which meant so much to me because our wedding was like a fairy tale that now, because of Vijay, I can re-live when I want to. My wife and I hired Mr. Rakhra to shoot our wedding last summer. We spoke with a few other photogs in the area but Vijay seemd the most professional and thorough out of the lot. he took the time to talk to us to really get a feel for us and i think it shows in his pictures. the posed shots went by relatively pain free. he took hundreds of shots but it only seemed like a couple of minutes. he was also great with all the youngsters...he knew just how to get them to concentrate on the lens and to give a natural smile. the candid photos were all great too. he must have been everywhere...like a ninja lurking in the shadows...because he got pics of everyone and everything from all angles! he also offered us plenty of options for his product delivery which was very nice compared to some of the other photogs we checked out. he was willing to accomodate any and all requests. the pictures turned out absolutely amazing. the detail, angle, perspective...all that photography stuff that people critique and love were outstanding. my entire family was very happy. It's been almost a year now since Vijay captured my special day. This review is way over due! As I glance over and over at the photos he shot during my wedding (which I do at least once a month LOL), I am at awe on how beautiful they are and how beautiful everyone looks! We found Vijay on craigslist at random as I was about to give up on finding a reputable photographer.
