BEWARE!!! My husband and I rented a 2025 Ford Transit Passenger Wagon from United Van Rentals' Irvine location (July 10-12, 2026) for a desert trip to Arizona. Before booking, we told the rep, the van would be used for a Bach trip to AZ. On 7/10, a little over an hour into our drive, the A/C stopped blowing cold air. We called and Tracy brushed it off as just being hot outside. When we pushed back, he told us to get it checked and said the company would cover a recharge if needed. We diverted to a shop in the next city - Blythe, CA. Thankfully, we found a shop that stayed open passed 5 pm for us. But they found that the car needed a compressor -- not a recharge. 11 people stuck in Blythe after 5 pm - no parts or shops open until the next day. Since then United Van Rentals stopped responding to our calls - we even emailed and called the Las Vegas location who said they'd get back to us - NOTHING. We were left to figure out how to get everyone to Scottsdale, pay for the repair, and travel in temperatures over 110 degrees with no a/c. We called numerous times after we got to Scottsdale, and still no answer, no call back, no response. I'm absolutely baffled. We complied with our contract, returned the vehicle last night, and this company still hasn't responded. They are blatantly in breach. We're out of pocket for diagnostic, taxi, substitute transportation in AZ, extended lodging, the rental fee for unusable days -- with zero communication despite repeated attempts. It truly ruined our trip, we weren't able to make our evening reservations either. We gave United Van Rentals every chance to make this right before posting. The silence after a safety issue we'd flagged is what prompted this review. Update - we finally got a response on Monday at 2 pm, after we sent a demand letter. He claims to have called me but somehow, I have no record of a call, and no voicemail. read more

These Vans are old and tired. They smelled awful too. Rented a van when we had family in town. Got there and was disappointed in the condition of the van and they said that's all they had. The tire went half flat the next day and we had to keep putting air in the tire every day. The vans smelled like wet dog and cigarette smoke. Very run down and poorly cleaned. So I guess they know how to take the reservation, but don't know how to fulfull the reservation. We had excellent service from start to finish with this company. We reserved our 12 passenger van 3 months in advance. Pickup was very easy at our local airport. Our van was in excellent condition, very clean, ran smoothly even at high speeds on the freeway & the air conditioning was great! My husband said he had great customer service when communicating with Tracy. We had to take 1 driver off our rental last minute due to illness & they refunded the $35 no problem at all. Great experience.... Until it wasn't. My friend and I booked a 12 passenger van over 3 months ago back in April. There's 10 of us total so we needed this type of van. Well, my friends arrival to LAX is tomorrow 7/27 and just yesterday 7/25, we got a call stating that the van we wanted to rent is no longer available and that there's nothing they could do about it. Nothing you can do about it??!! We were left scrambling, as all other rental places for this type of van were unavailable everywhere else. Thankfully, after being diligent, we got lucky and found a place for the dates we needed starting tomorrow. We're going to pay a tad more than what we would've with United Van rentals, but am just glad we found one at all! Shame on you United Van rentals. We'll never consider this placed again, and I advise you stay far away and book elsewhere to avoid the same potential headache. read more

For 1st time to rent a large passenger van, I'm glad I went with United Van Rentals. Tracy and his staff communicated well majority of the time. Rental price is hard to beat elsewhere. The vehicle was reliable and exceeded my expectations overall with United Van Rentals. Booked a 11 passenger van with extra cargo space for 1 week. Van was great shape. Used regular gas. Interior was clean and good condition. Staff was very accommodating. They dropped it off and picked up at residence. The only criticism I would make was the pickup arrangement. Pickup was 8am. I had to call in 15-20 minutes after the specified time and Tracy was able to provide a workaround. Van was not picked up until 11am-12pm. read more

Tracy helped us to send over all paperwork needed since we were not going to be stopping by any offices, we were able to do everything online from Mexico. The reservation process is easy to use: I made a reservation online and they called me to confirm in the next business day. The price quote I got online is honored when I check out the van, no hidden fees or surprises. I especially appreciate the excellent customer service from Tracy: on the scheduled pick-up day, he called me in the morning to notify my reserved van has some issue and he asked me if I can come in a little bit late. I don't know how the reviewers on this page is saying good stuff but I received the van at a local airport and not at their office. I told my husband that I was not comfortable with that because I usually pick up the rental car at the office. I got an old van with old beat up carpet inside the van. Many damage part of the van from the outside. I couldn't drive the van more than 60-65 because it would shake. I have 3 kids in the van how dangerous is that. The steering wheel shock so bad on the freeway to San Francisco. The headlight was not bright enough for night time. We had to flick the high beam many times. They charge you for the cleaning when the van is already old and dirty itself. Top of all they charge you for being late. We were not late at all!! We took the van to the car wash and vacuumed very good because we are respectful people. We wanted to support small business car rental instead of those big corporations. I'm going back to those big corporations on the next trip for the safety of my 3 kids. And last what kind of thing is to drop off the rental van at the airport parking lot with the key inside the van? I'm more comfortable to drop off the van at the rental office. Maybe they thought my city is ghetto? When we are decent people who live in a city that we can afford so that we can go places. They don't guarentee You a van. They don't let you know until its almsot the day of to pick up your van so there's no time to look for a new one it's last minute. And someone we had to call them to get told there wasn't a van they never even bothered to let us know there wasn't going to be one for us to pick up our day of. Bad service. They should explain that van isn't guaranteed when you make a reservation. It's basically putting your name on a list and waiting if they call or not. read more

I rented a 12-person Van for a few days in order to transport my team of super heroes into the depth of battle to save the world. The van was available on time and I was able to do a walk-around with one of the employees to review any current damage to the vehicle. The van was in good condition and was a recent-enough model to sport a rear-view camera! The rear-view camera was a life-saver. United Van Rentals staff communicated through email mostly but also coordinated through phone calls. They also offered to drop the van off at locations not listed on their website (as long as it is within their designated areas) which is a bonus. Overall, this service left me with few worries and made the process easy. *****A suggestion I would make: Have the website be capable (/secure) of delegating credit card information. This trumps any situation where credit card info has to be given over the phone. If the paperwork process was more refined, I would give 5*. read more

The rental experience was completely soured by poor company procedures and these poor procedures being blamed on me the customer. I returned the vehicle to where I had been instructed and was then charged 300 bucks for a parking fine because this was the wrong location. I explained this nicely to the staff on the phone and via email and they would have none of it. They just wanted to recover the money from me even though it was clearly their fault. Excellent service (thanks Tony - Las Vegas) and the Van was clean and full of fuel when we picked it up! We were able to set up the rental and do ALL the documents via email & phone, which was ideal for my situation. pick up and drop off were very easy. This was the easiest rental I have ever had. They had drop off on Sunday too, which saved me an extra day of fees. (Something the 'other guys' wouldn't allow) which was a deciding factor as well. Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend them and I will rent from them again! Additional Notes: We needed to get 11 Men to a Retreat near Big Bear, CA. for 3 days. With full sized men and gear, we needed the 15 passenger van just to get everything in. I mention this just as advice to travelers, plan for fewer seats - if you have a lot of gear.
