This place is fabulous. The grandson now runs the place, and has the skill, knowledge and fairness we expected of our neighbors in the old days -- when we knew the people we did business with. They rejuvenated the cushions - seat back and sides -- of my 1970's Henredon couch (originally my mother's, bought here in Seattle). Knew just what to do, didn't try to scam me or do a halfway job, and was exceptionally reasonably priced. I brought in a plywood base to a family heirloom rocker this morning, asked if I could have it before Thanksgiving and he had it ready 4 hours later. Really a great place! read more

Very unpleasant experience! I can't comment on the quality of workmanship on our chair. After months of having it, they never even started the work. Our chair was promised due in mid-December. At the end of January, I called to ask the status. I was told that "the boss" was out and would call me back. This went on for weeks. Always a promised phone call that never happened. That's all I wanted: a phone call to give me the status of our chair. The longer I was put off, and the more lame the excuses, the more suspicious I became. Were they going out of business and my chair would be forever lost? Upholstering a chair is a luxury, no one has to have it done. As with other luxuries, it should be pleasant and have fond memories, like eating at a very nice restaurant. My advice is to pay with a credit card (they charge a 3% premium) so that you have the credit card company's support. And take a look at the date of the Yelp reviews, especially the Not Recommended ones. I'll bet my review would have been five stars and I would have been pleased with the work. The pieces in the show room are lovely. If only the boss had called me back, the unpleasantness could have been avoided. read more

We had a project we did for a dental office and needed to do it quickly and within a certain budget. One of the owners, Rich, worked with us to get the look we wanted at the right price. In addition, they picked up and delivered and turned the entire project in 10 days, which included a holiday weekend. It was such a good experience, I'm now roaming the house looking for other projects. I hope to do more work with them in the future-the possibilities are endless. This place is ridiculous. I dropped off a chair, one of 15 I own, to have it reupholstered, with the intention of having them do all of the chairs. It's been two months, I have called about six times and have gotten nowhere. Some random that works there answers the phone but refuses to help, saying the boss will call you back. I gave up, they can have the chair, but DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS WITH YOU FURNITURE. Zero customer service, and I now have 14 chairs. Serious waste of time. read more

Update: Apparently summer vacation, missed communication and some potential management changes was the culprit for the poor response time. After meeting with staff, we arranged to have the work done. It was done very well, the wood was cleaned and freshened up, the cushions restuffed and fabric replaced as promised. The delivery time was a little over 2-weeks - very acceptable. Was referred by neighbor for reupholstering a few chairs. Called a few times and staff was confused and not responsive. Google said Saturday hours till 2pm, sign on door said 1pm, arrived at 12:50 and no answer. After taking chairs to store and pick out fabric, spent half an hour looking through books to find "several checked out". Left our number and told they would call next day, a week later they aren't returning our call. Perhaps if you are decorator may get better service, heading to greenwood and try Gabels. read more

I had a bad experience and probably wouldn't have been prompted to write this review had they not ignored me after they did some poor work that needed to be fixed -- and never did it. Here is what happened: Needed 4 kitchen stools re-upholstered and was given a quote that seemed high. I went to another company and got the same leather hide I was quoted for 1/3 the cost, so brought the leather in myself so AW Hoss could just do the re-upholstery work. They had already told me $X price just for labor per stool, so I was fine with that. Went to pick up the completed stools, and after inspecting I found there were 2 different stools that had fairly significant flaws in the leather. Note, there was an entire hide to work with, so the upholsterer had plenty of room to choose from better leather. To their credit, they re-did those 2 stools with the remaining leather hide. That was the right thing to do, and all is well, right? No. Within a couple days the threading on the upholstery started to unravel on 2 of the stools -- and certainly would happen on the other 2 with time. So I contacted the company. They said they would fix it and are looking into leather availability, etc. I gave them some time and followed up again. They were responsive at first, but then went radio silent. I reached out multiple times and was told over the phone by someone taking a message I would get called the next day, etc. etc. Never heard back. I even emailed to mention that I can't help but think I'm being ignored.... nothing back. Very very disappointing. The company completely ignored me when they knew their work was unsatisfactory, and didn't own up to it. That's the most disappointing part. That's why I wrote this review. If you are considering this company, at least consider this review. Caveat Emptor. read more

Did what no one else was able to do. They got my cushion covers done in two days and did an excellent job. They fit perfectly and did them based on my measurements without seeing the couch. The pattern on each cushion is an exact match! I will definitely recommend them to all my friends. read more

I cannot say enough good things about these guys! I took in an old bench that I was learning to play the piano on and needed it to be re-upholstered asap. Rich took me back into the shop and found the EXACT material/color I had conjured up in my mind.. literally within minutes! He then told me it would take close to a week to be completed. No joke, the NEXT day I received a text saying my job was completed!! He said I was so excited when I came in and he wanted to make sure I could still practice the piano without much delay that he got it done straight away. I had several things that were in various phases of disassembled (because I'm much better at taking things apart than putting them back together) but Rich didn't even flinch when I walked in with all my pieces. Thought these guys were great until I picked up my chairs and got them home. We had requested an overnight service to replace the fabric on outdoor dining set. When back home, realized one chair was inside out. Called them to request same day fix, since the party we were rushing them for was that night (Friday). They said they couldn't get to it until Monday. Wow. Full price for 75% done. Oh, yes, I specifically explained this in advance, but the guy was too busy telling me how experienced he was. Was hoping they feel badly enough to discount the job as for our inconvenience, but nothing. Next time, new place. read more

Just dropped off six couch cushions to be recovered. Great experience. Shop is obviously very busy but the owner took time to listen to what I wanted and figured out what would work, understood that it wasn't a fancy formal thing but the couch that we have in our kitchen. So, blackberry pie, red wine, cat hair and lots and lots of people hanging out while we cook- we have a living room but I sometimes wonder why.. And the cushions needed to match the other parts of the couch. Bingo, he found the perfect thing: tough yet comfortable and at a great price. Loved it. And, if you do have that amazing thing that needs a fancy do-over the examples they have waiting for owner pick up are heart-stopping drop dead fabulous. And they have an amazing amount of fabric samples. And they repair broken furniture and they have ends of rolls of fabrics marked down- lots and lots of it. Give them a try. I was in their showroom for about an hour and a half looking through tons of samples, which I liked, but was totally ignored. It seems that the phone calls from mom, friends, and everyone else were more important than helping a potential client. After I was finally noticed,and apologized to, I checked out the samples I needed. The really aggravating event happened on my return...Of course, the fabric I chose was discontinued. Another family member came out of the office,began to help me try to find something similar, but was distracted again by another bunch of personal phone calls. Some of the stitching was coming out of one of my couch cushions revealing some tasty fluff stuffing that my dog couldn't resist. I took it by AW Hoss and they had me fixed up by the next day for a totally reasonable price. They were even willing to do it while I waited but I chose to pick it up the following day. This business took my $1800 deposit for a custom-made leather chair and ottoman 2 years ago and NEVER completed it. They took my money and made promise after promise but never came through. At first they put me off, giving excuses for the delay; after over a year, I had had enough and requested a refund. Twice I was promised that a refund check would be in the mail the next day, but it never happened. I wrote to the Attorney General's Office and also received a judgement against them from Small Claims Court, and still nothing! They didn't even show up in court. They have had many, many opportunities and notices to make this right, and are ignoring me as well as the court order. Please beware of this business and their horrible business practices. Eight months ago I gave Larry Hoss of Hoss & Sons my french antique caned chair to have it re-caned. I have called, texted, phoned both Larry's cell and the shop no less than ten times over the last six months, and I have gotten no response. I spoke at length to Alan Hoss, who I believe owns the business, and he had no explanation, no apology, and even bettert he was cranky and peevish in his response. He assured me three months ago that Larry would call me, and yet no contact. My next step will be to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and if that fails to get a response, I will be forced to file a lawsuit to be reimbursed for the cost of replacing the chair. This has been a hangnail in my life for the past six months. I would give negative stars if I could because they have earned it. DO NOT under any circumstances trust these people with your furniture. UPDATE: By some miracle (or was it because I Yelped?), Larry had his brother drop the chair at my house this afternoon. He apologized via text but offered no explanation for his extreme ineptitude. I stand by my advice to STEER CLEAR!!! read more

They completed two projects for us: a simple rectangular window seat cushion covered in microfiber fabric (great for a house with a cat), and an angled window seat cushion with back pillows that had velco straps attached for a pre-existing back rest. Rich and his crew are easy to work with, do great work, communicate thoroughly about cost, ask questions about how you want your project done, and execute it in a timely manner. I started calling on Aug 29th to get a quote. The first person I talked to was very helpful and had me text photos of what I needed done. He said he'd get back to me later that day. Never heard from him. In all I've left 7 messages waiting to get this "quote" that never came. Last time I called I spoke to a different man who rudely said, "I gave him ALL of your messages, he'll get back to you when he can!!" That was last week so 3 weeks or so after my first call.
