He asked about my preferences, and checked in about the pressure. I feel so relaxed now. The ladies at the front and desk were so sweet and helpful. They offered me champagne for my birthday, and escorted me to the Wet Deck where I got some sun and ordered lunch. After the pool, I came back to the ladies locker room and used the steam showers, which were such a great experience. Then, I got ready for my birthday dinner at Sexy Roman! The ladies' locker room attendant was also very polite and friendly. She got me some body lotion from the front; it smelled so good and moisturized very well. Overall, it was a great experience. The service began without any skin consultation or assessment -- no questions about my skin, no magnifying light, and no discussion of what the facial would focus on. During the service, I repeatedly asked for firmer pressure, which was not adjusted and was eventually ignored. The aesthetician also wore an AirPod throughout the facial, which contributed to an overall sense of disengagement. The service ended approximately 10 minutes early, despite being booked and paid for as a full session, and a paid add-on that included additional time and treatment was not performed. When I brought these very reasonable concerns to the front desk, the response was dismissive and patronizing rather than solution-oriented. Instead of acknowledging the shortened service and the undelivered add-on, I was told that the aesthetician is "top-rated" and repeatedly pressured about gratuity. My explanation that the service ended early was initially denied, then minimized as "just 10 minutes," which is not acceptable for a time-based service. There is a level of hospitality and offerings that is expected to come along with a premium offering like that of the W. Let's just say don't plan a girls day. There is no private pool, hot tub, sauna, cold plunge, snacks, etc. If you do want to go to the pool, expect to walk across the busy lobby with no underwear on and in only a thin spa robe. We were also each given a little detox shot on arrival. Clean facilities, steam shower, lockers, silky soft robes and Frette branded slippers to take with us. We were given Bonvoy Elite Spa Awards at the front desk for either a free 25 minute chair massage, 25 minute facial, or we could use the value of the award (~$108) towards a full-priced service. BF got the 25 minute chair massage but was offered to use the rest of the facilities since it wasn't busy. I opted to use the credit towards a 50 minute detox massage, with hot stones. Alex was my masseuse and did a good job, communicated with me and ensured I was relaxed through the massage. We were also told the pricing includes 20% gratuity. I didn't have the best experience here. The receptionist at the front desk were not welcoming or helpful. When I entered and told them that I had the AI robot massage it was like they were no longer interested in giving me customer service. They tried to downplay the fact that I had access to the pool on the second floor and the relaxation room in addition to a robe and slippers. I had to basically beg for a robe and slippers and to be shown where the steam room was. I was not provided with a locker even though I saw they had extra ones. They started to warm up a little bit at the end once they realized i was not going to be treated of kind of way. I spend money for offered services just like others. However, I was overcharged and was told that I would be contacted in 2 days. I went 10 days with no contact from the spa manager or accounting department as promised. It would have been radio silence if I had not reached out to them since they didn't follow through with their promise of contacting me within 2 days. Once they finally contacted me, they told me that the additional charge was for Prosecco. I didn't even want Prosecco. They handed it to all of us when we got in. They never said there would be a charge for it. Then charged ME for the drinks of 4 people. It's definitely frustrating to say the least. They totally scammed me. I never received an itemized receipt or consented to purchasing Prosecco for myself let alone 3 other people. No one in my group received a receipt either. PROS: clean, good facial CONS: our entire experience was a disaster My friends were visiting so I brought them here for a birthday spa day. We all had massages and one of my friends had a facial. Two of us had the same massage therapist and were not impressed. The massage itself was okay but the therapist talked the entire time and insulted us. The third massage was great. My friend who had the facial said it was amazing. We wanted to get additional services but there wasn't anyone available. There was no one in the nail area, yet they didn't have anyone available for pedicures. It seemed very understaffed. After our massages we relaxed in the lounge and enjoyed the "amenities", which are really just two small steam showers. There was only one small bench to sit on in the shower, so my friend sat on the floor. She ended up getting badly burned by a metal box that generates the steam. The box was not labeled to caution anyone that it was hot, there was no cage around it, and it was difficult to see in the shower since it was so steamy. She was in a lot of pain and asked a staff member if they had anything for the burn. The staff did not seem at all concerned about this serious injury. When my friend was explaining that she didn't know the metal box was hot, the staff member responded condescendingly "well it IS steam." She had to request ice twice before they gave her some for the pain. The woman did apply aloe to the burn, but she did not wash her hands or wear gloves. We also added on "Celeb Status" which includes a drink, light bites and a swag bag for $50 each. Two of us had a glass of Prosecco, but no one was around to give my other friend a drink. The food never came and was never brought up by the staff. The swag bag was a joke. I hope you like laptop webcam covers! We basically paid $100 for two glasses of Prosecco. I will note that AWAY did end up refunding me for the celeb status after the fact. When it came time to check out, I tried to pay with a Groupon. Unfortunately there was an error with Groupon and the voucher code was never issued. This was 100% Groupon's fault and not AWAY's. A staff member told me she would honor the Groupon price, which was very nice of her. She rang me up and we went on our way. 20 minutes later I received a call from the spa. I thought they were calling to check in on the status of my friend's injury as they promised they would. Instead I was told they had messed up the calculations and I owed an additional $500. I would have never left the spa if I thought it would cost me $800 in the end. I would have tried to resolve it another way. I'm shocked at the audacity of this spa employee to call me and demand an additional $500 for her miscalculation while my friend was being treated for her severe burn, especially considering the fact that the staff seemingly disappeared the moment we disclosed the injury to them. We never did receive a call to check in regarding the injury. We went back to the spa the following day to discuss the issues we experienced regarding both the severe burn and payment with the manager. She was dismissive and rude. As my friend described her injury, she asked the woman if she'd like to see it to understand the severity. The woman replied "I know what a burn looks like." Yet again, another awful encounter with the staff. Ultimately, we were given a full refund (give credit where credit is due), however no amount of money could make me want to have another experience at AWAY. I want to forget it ever happened, but we'll always have the reminder due to the permanent scarring on my friend's back. There are so many amazing spas in Scottsdale. The people were very friendly but still a horrible experience. My facial- which I didn't realize was bad since it was my first- was basically a 50 min face massage. No extractions, steam or anything. One person in my group was taken last but brought back out more than 5 minutes early. They also didn't mention they automatically add your gratuity when you use a Groupon. The massage was great. However, this is not a real spa as there are zero amenities. The worst part is when the girl at the front desk called and accused my friend of stealing a hair mask. She had walked to the desk with the hair mask asking about price. She was told the price and then chose to forego the purchase and as any normal, decent human would- she put the mask back. Not 15 minutes after I left; I received a phone call accusing my friend of stealing the hair mask. We just paid $280 for massages, why would she steal a $10 hair mask?! I'm still appalled. Be wary! You do not get what you pay for. I recommend Sanctuary at Camelback, JW Marriott or Camelback Inn for your spa needs. I don't want to completely rip on the away spa, but our experience was less than desirable. I visited with my best friend for her 30th birthday, and paid for two hot stone massages. Upon arriving another party had completely taken over the women's locker room, so we were invited to use the men's locker room since no males would be visiting the spa that day. The men's locker room was very clean, but the products in the men's locker room where catered to men, and not women. We did go up and use the pool as it was included in our service, and that was very lovely. With regards to the massages, mine was less than desirable. My therapist was very sweet, but she did not pay attention to the areas that I asked her to focus on, did not use enough pressure, and she completely forgot to use the hot stones that I had paid for in my service. She offered to do a foot scrub, which lasted maybe 3 to 5 minutes at the very end. When paying for our service, they added on a $35 gratuity for each person, which didn't seem quite right since our services were not as expected. But, we happily paid for them and the manager of the spa offered to give me an alcoholic beverage to take with me since I did not receive the hot stone service I paid for. I respectfully declined, as it didn't seem quite right that an alcoholic beverage would be compensation for a lack of a service that I paid for. Hubby and I were celebrating our anniversary this past weekend and booked 2 massages for Monday morning. These were some of the best massages and overall experience we've had! Showed up and used valet for parking (alternatively parking is available on the street surrounding the hotel). We headed in and over to the spa and we're promptly greeted and checked in. We then received a detox shot (which was delicious) and then started a quick tour of the facility. Once we got to the dressing rooms we snagged a locker and got changed into our robes and slippers. Everything was clean and sanitary. Then we waited in the relaxation area and sipped cucumber water before being taken back by our masseuses. I didn't catch the gentleman's name that did my massage but he was very nice! Charismatic and very knowledgeable. My massage was perfect in both pressure and technique. He also had several suggestions on stretches or techniques to use at home or in the office as I explained I sit at a computer for work all day. My hubby's massage was equally as nice. He has some heel issues currently and expected to be in pain but was not. He left a little tender but by the evening felt nice and relaxed. We ended our visit with a steam shower and when we checked out we learned the 15% local resident discount was actually a 25% discount, so we saved even more than we thought. We will definitely be back, the staff is friendly, the spa is clean, and the prices are fair for the quality of service. read more

Called and made a reservation for a "couple's massage" to take place as part of my wedding anniversary celebration weekend. I made the reservation for the 80 minute de-stress massage. Upon arrival, the receptionist at the front counter was nice. She offered my wife and I a complimentary beverage. She escorted us to the individual changing areas. My wife and I were provided a robe and slippers. Upon changing, we waited in the waiting area which had approximately 6 chairs. As we waited, a person with a uniform attire came out and was randomly speaking. No one in the waiting area could figure out who she was addressing. She quickly left and returned. She called out my name and I stood up and smiled and said I am him. She said "I'm going to be giving you your massage. Are you ready." Which was weird, because I was here for a "couple's massage." I asked "what about my wife?" She said my wife's masseuse is running over time with another client and asked if I would like to wait. I was thinking "that's an odd question!" I'm here for a "couple's massage" why would I go ahead of my wife. As I was about to respond, my wife's masseuse came out. The masseuse escorted us down a hallway. I was shown to a room and my wife to another room. My wife and I immediately stopped and questioned why we were being escorted to separate rooms. The masseuse informed me that they do not offer same room massages. I explained that we reserved a couple's massage. This was literally just 2 individual massages booked at the same time. NOT what we wanted on our anniversary. She nonchalantly stated with zero empathy, "that's something you need to take up with the front desk." My wife, wanting to be a good sport, said "it's ok babe, we can just do it." We both entered our separate rooms. The disappointment continued! The massage room was small and not decorated in any way, just a beige color room. It felt like a hospital room. The actual massage was very lackluster! This was literally a woman rubbing oil on me for 80 minutes. I promise that I am not exaggerating. The massage (more of just a rubdown was terrible! I was contemplating getting up and cutting the massage short during the entire session. Upon being done, I returned to the locker room to get dressed. Waited for my wife, and I could see the look on her face as she approached. She was also extremely dissatisfied with her massage. Once we got back to the front desk, the receptionist asked "how was it? I explained everything that I just described. She was nice, apologized for our experience, and explained that they did not offer a couple's massage and the person who booked the massage should have made me aware of that. She attempted to make things right by offering a 25% discount. Although appreciated, the experience was already ruined, since we were expecting a romantic couple's massage. This was the furthest thing from that. The cost of the massage was approximately $450 with the 25% off. Definitely not worth the price! I've have a better experience at a Box-store massage parlor. Lovely birthday facial with Selena at the Away Spa. We started with a detox shot and my Groupon facial included an eye mask and a peel as well as a hand, foot and scalp massage. The spa isn't large but it has the basics and it was very well kept. A small waiting room with a few snacks, nice showers and sauna. My friend enjoyed a good massage with Ruben but the hot stone option was omitted (for which we received a complementary cocktail). We were offered pool access but it is not connected to the Spa and it was a cool day so we passed. At the end of my facial I received a complimentary cocktail for my birthday and a bag of samples and a few other W logo items for the pool (battery operated fan, sunscreen, key chains, sunglasses). The staff were all very nice and very friendly. At the right price this is a nice place to come. It's not the Sanctuary, and you won't sit around in the waiting area relaxing, and there's no quiet room-but for a lunchtime facial and maybe a bit of pool time this is a good option and we will come back here. read more
