Unprofessional and rude, one of the worst manicures I ever got. My cuticles weren't even cut as much as I liked, I asked her to clean up my cuticles and she told me she didn't have time. She was rushing everything and the nail shapes didn't even match, especially with my thumbs you can see the shape difference. Bubbles also started to form on my nails, she didn't even try to fix it. The salon is dirty and gross, the nail techs didn't seem to care about the quality of the nails they're doing. They seemed like they were a salon of quantity over quality. This place is a cash grabber and doesn't put enough effort for their customers. Overall, I do not recommend this nail salon. read more

I used to come to this place here or there just because it was close by and they take walk-ins. The quality was usually average but from my last two experiences I will NOT be coming back. I did acrylic nails and she shaped them so poorly, they were all uneven and didn't even last two weeks without chipping or breaking. Then I went back to get them removed and it was the most painful removal I ever had. She used the electric tool to scape them off and it was burning so much! I got shellac manicure (one Color, no design) and these are the ugliest nails I've ever gotten done. The nail technician was rushing the base coat - it was sticky and not fully covering my nail. Afterwards she spent 2 hours redoing my nails after I told her they were bumpy and the Color was applying unevenly. She used a device to remove the 4 layers of polish she added and nearly tore my skin off. I do not recommend this place at all. It cost me $45 for a manicure and this is the garbage I got on my nails. They also talk bad about you in Vietnamese if you complain. She said my skin Color was dark and that my skin was dry which is why my nail Color looked bad. Overall very disrespectful and unprofessional. read more

Unprofessional, rude, aggressive. Confronted her about poor application of shellac nail and she got annoyed right away. I'm usually not picky but she was applying it way too thick and unevenly. She started yelling at me for looking at my nails between coats and said it'll be fine after top coat. After she applied top coat, I told her the problems weren't fixed and she just started applying more to parts of my nail, making it look WAY worse. She said that's how it's going to be so I tried to take a picture of the nails. She wouldn't let me and told me she'll remove them for me since I'm not happy with them. She took an e file and dug through the polish, scratching my nails and cutting my cuticle because she was being very rough on purpose. Walked in around 3, no wait time at all which was nice. However the middle age lady who came to have me assigned to a nail tech DID NOT wear a mask. Four staff in shop, two were not wearing masks. During covid, this practice makes customers feel uncomfortable. Although they do tell clients to wash their hands before starting the nail service, their sanitization routine is not up to par. For example, after you wash your hands, they supply you with old clothes sitting right on the sink that you may or may not know is clean. I've asked for a paper towel instead to clean my hands however the middle age lady seemed reluctant to provide them. Second, when the phone rung, different technicians would run to answer the phone. When my technician ran to answer the phone and grab her ipad charger that fell on the flood, no hand sanitizer was used before touching my hands again. Would appreciate a more frequent use of hand sanitizer. I'm baring my toe-souls here: I've gotten pedicures regularly for years at various places in the Lower Mainland, ever since my vision changed so I couldn't see well enough to trim my own toenails- so, let's say it's been awhile! But the pedi I got at Awesome Nails was the worst ever! I'm not usually this sensationalist, and I generally try to find redeeming qualities, but I can't do it this time. So, the nitty-gritty: - The polish application was mediocre at best, bubbled, and polish wasn't cleaned up off my toes. Small quibbles, I agree, and easy enough for me to tidy up once I got home, but remember - I paid someone for a service that I should not end up finishing/fixing. - The polish barely lasted 2 weeks before it started to chip & flake off. Anywhere else I've had a pedicure, my nails look good as new for weeks between sessions, save for the hobbit-like lengths due to my family's wonderful genetics that result in amazing nail growth, all of which makes regular trimming that much more imperative!! - On top of the disappointing results, for the first time ever, I had to deal with an infected big toe due to the tech's deep-dive cuticle digging!! I didn't pay attention to their hygiene practices but, based on many previous reviews, it's apparent this salon has a long history of ignoring basic 'best practices'. I'm kind of glad I didn't notice then, because thinking about it makes me shudder, especially now as we are all taking so many extra precautions everywhere hygiene-wise. A friend had recommended this place, and my first visit was positive; I had a good nail tech, there was a friendly vibe, I felt like I received professional work, and it was a good pedicure. Went here out of convenience to get my acrylics off. The lady who did it for me was quite rude, criticizing my nails that I had gotten at a different salon. Additionally, they made me soak my hands in acetone, and when I only wanted to submerge my fingertips she gave me attitude. I told her that I do not want my hands to dry out from soaking them in acetone (as my hands have eczema), and she assured me that this was the way to do it (and argued with me when I told her I had never seen that before at any other salon). I've gone to Helen there a couple times and she's always been very fast and precise with my gel fills. The price is on the low to average end for getting your nails done in Richmond. Some nail salons aren't very accommodating when it comes to staying longer than they want to, but the ladies here are always nice and understanding. The Pedi I got was average. Not the best, but it was good enough for what you pay. They did make a little wee error on one toe, but still, taking care of your feet is important. So you have to do this once in awhile to keep up appearances. I'd come back again, but I'm still on the hunt for that perfect place. It was nice that I was able to just walk in and get it done. I had my nails done recently (2 days ago) somewhere out of town. By the time I got home, 3 of my nails were ruined, so I needed them fixed. The service in this place is pathetic and the products they used they are way long expired. I got "fixed" (very badly) the 3 ruined nails and I got charged more that for the full set. This is probably the worst nail salon I've ever been to and I've been to some bad ones. I went in to get the design on my current set changed. It started with 2 employees literally laughing in my face telling me my nail shape was ugly and asking me who did my nails before. And mind you I've read these reviews so in my head I was thinking that I don't think you can do better but I needed my nails done for a shoot ASAP. I asked the lady if she can do this design for me and she said yes, I then said if it's not possible let me know now and I can change the design. But she insisted that she can do it. So as she began I was confused because I've done a ombré set before and the technique she used wasn't like anything I've seen but I was trusting the process. Management has changed and hygiene at this place is now appalling. I went back twice under new management to see if it was just a one-time thing and sadly, it wasn't. I was really surprised when I went to pay the first time, the person taking my debit card did not take off her gloves and returned to work with those same gloves. The second time the lady doing my feet left half way through my pedicure to clean another foot tub a customer had vacated, and did not change her gloves when she returned. I had to stop her and ask her to change her gloves before she started working on my pedicure again. I was unimpressed that my service and time was stopped so she could go and clean during the middle of my session. I also noticed that the tools were only quickly rinsed under the tap before used on another customer again. I've been to this establishment multiple times before with different staff/owners of course. They were so nice, clean, had great customer service, and open to corrections. This new place is horrible. Never going back there. Where do I start: -She rushed my manicure in-between clients -She cut my nails so bloody short (shorter than I had asked for) -Instead of opening a new nail polish; they just added more thinner -The application was worse than an 4 year old, and she did not fix it. -When I asked her to clean it up she angrily dug her nails in to clean the edges. -Blamed me for the bubbles that had formed on my nails. These were weird air-bumps that were caused by the nail polish being overly thinned and application process being juvenile. -Instead of fixing the problem, she and another employee just put heaps of top coat over the mistake; and kept saying 'top coat fix it' -To end it all she then used the same manicure set that she used on me with another person -She spoke about me in Vietnamese to other staff when I asked her to fix the problem -And finally rushed me out saying my nails were dry when they weren't!!!!! Never will I ever go back to these guys again! It hurts me to see such a great establishment get run down like this by new owners who only care about money! read more

The hygiene and service here is appaling. They reuse nail files and tools without sterilizing between clients. The woman who painted my French tips did a terrible job; she blamed imperfections in my nails for causing the appearance of white smears in the polish (the smears were in fact streaks of paint, not "bubbles" in my nail). When she tried to "fix" the problem, she ground so deeply into my nail with the Dremel tool that she nearly reached my nailbed in an attempt to patch the paint, rather than removing all the polish and starting over properly. Furthermore, her cuticle trimming resulted in bleeding, which has never happened to me before. A different person had to redo her work. Finally, the workers talk abusively about their clients amongst themselves in Vietnamese (they were not aware that one of the women in my group was Vietnamese; she heard them refer to her as an animal and complain about tips). Awesome nails saved us from a botched mani/pedi at another salon-fixed everything perfectly! My friend and I did a 2 main+2 pedi groupon deal at Vanish Laser in Surrey that went horribly wrong! Vanish Laser was unprofesional, unclean, and did a horrible polish job. The salon only had half-used expired top coat that was globby. We should have just left in retrospect. After we left the poor Vanish Salon,I immediately called Awesome nails and booked us an appointment 20 minutes later that day. They did an amazing job fixing our nails, which was a great releif! That same lady did my nails for my last two visits and I will not go back again because she was very careless when both filing my nails and trimming the cuticle. I asked for an oval shape with a bit of a sharp tip at the ends and she gave me something that looks like a ducks beak. I ended up going home and filing for about an hour to get the shape I wanted. The colour was cute but she wasn't too careful with the application and on the sides there at some holes. I am a bit of a perfectionist and so I noticed that they are not straight and slightly crooked. I was charged $47 after tax... yes that's right. :(!! read more

A friend recommended this place, and I've never been disappointed. Every pedicure I've had here has been fantastic, and the polish job has always lasted until it either grew out or I got the next pedicure. (Given that I cannot keep a polish job intact on my hands, I consider this something of a miracle.) Staff are friendly and happy to chat, but not intrusive. Prices are excellent. And all the staff seem to have a talent for freehand nail art (an extra $5 with a pedicure for big toes only), which adds an element of fun to a normal pedicure. read more

I have been here a few times and this is the WORST place to go! They have very poor customer service and are soo rude to the customers. They rushed me when I was there last few times and just today. They do not care about either the quality of the work or if the customer is satisfied. I spend a lot of money on my nails- I get them done every 2 weeks- shellac or gel, which is expensive and get shellac and gel on both my hands and feet- I also get extra fancy pedicures which cost more money and give them tips. The owner said to my face that I was being too picky and that I have to be nice and not be too fussy. She said that they have many more customers and indicated that they do not want to deal with me and that the workers work hard for their money and that they will deal with me if I am nice. I am always nice and always leave a tip. I am sorry, if I am paying a lot for my nails I expect them to be something I like. To top it off, they take cash as under the table payment and do not give you a receipt. I m not trying to be rude, but they should really go out of business. I have always got my nails done. This was a great find. I had a man named Tai do my gel's. He also did the french tip painted by hand. It has been almost 3 weeks(due for my fill in a few days) and they stil look BEAUTIFUL. I am a women that is soooo hard on my nails and they always chip or break even come off by now. but they are beautiful as evern.. go in ans ask for a appt with Tai. I had a manicure and pedicure from this place. Ended up getting a toe nail fungus on both big toes from the pedicure. Once you get this, it is damn near impossible to get rid of. I would highly recommend you not frequent this establishment - they do not disinfect their equipment despite what they tell you. Also, most of the staff don't even speak English. Not impressed - and I have heard from other people that they have contracted toe nail fungus as a result of getting pedicures at this place. Also, my french pedicure flaked off in a week, and the french manicure turned yellow after two weeks - they use poor quality gels and polishes. Terrible manicure, the woman who did my pedicure was watching tv while doing my toenails and the woman doing my manicurer nails nails (which were very long) after I asked for them a bit shorter, cut them almost down to the quick. Except for a few of them. They are all different lengths and shapes. She used a very rough emery board and my nail edges were terrible, I asked her to use a finer emery board and she did but me nails ended up short, some rounded off, some pointy and some squared off. She was very very nice and socialable. But for some reason, my polish already started chipping on the third day and it eventually started to peel off too.. I would give less than one star if possible, recently visited family in Richmond and I got gel nails done here, in a design I have been wanting to get for a long time. I found the staff to be unfriendly (maybe because I was an unfamiliar face) but I am pretty positive the girls were talking about me the whole time, as they kept looking over and then whispering in a language I don't understand. Not only was the experience bad but the job done was awful, she cut me with the cuticle shaver several times, once badly on the thumb which hurt for weeks, with no apology. The gel is way too thick and she did not cover the side of my nails or go to the cuticle so I will have to take them off within another week as they look grown out already. I believe it was the manager who did them , and at one point a lady came over to look and made an awfully ugly face of disgust and mumbled something again in a language I do not understand. I found this salon incredibly unprofessional and I felt uncomfortable the entire time, once I left I was disappointed with the money I had spent and the two hours of my day wasted! I have read a few reviews of this place talking bad about people, and find it pathetic that they are disrespecting people who are spending money in their salon, and feel like if your customers speak English, it is only professional and respectful to do the same! Questionable management of this business. I do not wear nail polish because I like a natural-buffed nail, have never had a manicure, only a few pedicures in my life (use a home foot bath for maintenance) and am preparing to be the 'mother of the groom' next month. I have a LOT of questions about Awesome Nails and Spa's 'Best Practices' (looking for a Certificate on their wall) for which there were no answers. When I asked about sanitization, reception pointed to a product in the display for nail fungus. The liner for the basin was a large shower cap (not from a package) and the tools were also not from packages, instilling a lack of confidence on my part. The tray of liquid products included 'alcohol' which is very drying. I was asked what shape I wanted for the nails, square or oval. Because I had never had a manicure before, I asked for her opinion which she wouldn't offer. I don't think she is used to giving her opinion. She had two open cuts on her hands (no gloves). My nails look groomed but they looked dry and lack lustre. I decided against polish (open reused bottles) to give the nails a chance to recover. For my feet, the basin of water began too hot and then ended up too cool. The practitioner rolled her eyes when I didn't place the foot properly. The day after, my feet look groomed but the skin is extremely dry and rough and probably would put a run in a stocking. I suspect the women are using poor quality products that do nothing to improve the condition of the skin. I think it must be an unhealthy work environment for the women, exacerbated by the fact their English is weak. (I wonder about my team's compatibility with each other). My opinion? Improve the working conditions for the women and the mutual happiness level would rise. $45 for a combined mani/pedi whether polish is added or not. Signed: Once only customer read more
