Don't shy away! If you're in Forest city, this is a great place to get your lunch or dinner. My husband and I are from New Mexico so we are not foreigners to great Mexican fare. Granted New Mexican food is different, we have our share of the varietal choices of regional Mexican cuisine. At Ay Jalisco , we chose enchiladas,. My husband had beef. I had cheese. We first ordered a tall cold beer, and wow! Did we get beer! Dos Equis on tap in a large mug ( my guess to 24 oz) . Very good, very cold (including the mug) Our enchiladas were fantastic, the flavor is in the corn tortillas - tasted so fresh , homemade. I've not had such a great corn tortilla since my child hood days in San Diego, brought back memories of the first street taco I ever had. They brought free chips and salsa to start, tasty salsa and crisp chips. The red chile was divine! Not too hot, like I find many New Mexican chiles, it was just right and it was rich in flavor. Ay Jalisco in Forest City is not it bud. From the 25 minute wait for our drinks, the hour wait for our food, asking for chips four times before my mil went to the kitchen to ask, the absolutely condescending shit service. Over half our plates were wrong (there were six of us) they didn't season anything unless they consider salt and grease seasoning. My food was swimming in grease. I've never had steak tacos that were greasy. My kids were very specific about how they wanted their tacos and instead were given regular tacos with everything on them. This place is a dumpster fire near the end of burning. All charred garbage and grease. Oh, and there were only two other tables so they were not busy in the least. There was no excuse for the terrible service. Also, they could turn some more lights on in there, feels like they rely on daylight coming through the front windows to be able to see in the dining room. Three this morning I was puking up my meal after having tried tums for the heartburn and the rock in my stomach. I've never had this terrible of an experience from a Mexican restaurant. In reality if I could give this place negative stars ai would rate it a solid -10,000. Absolute trash. read more

Warm, crisp chips with tasty salsa served quickly. The lunch menu has two columns of choices all under $10. We had corona - perfectly cold with a lime. Also, flautas, huevos rancheros, both served with rice, beans, pico on lettuce. It was perfect serving size for lunch. We recommend and will visit this place again. read more

This place was fine, then I got food poisoning in July. I reported them to the state food inspectors but they wanted a full report and I didn't have the time. I know the exact dish that set me off. This place is amazing in the middle of nowhere Forest City. Beyond kind people. Saw them hold the door open for someone who just came in to pick up an order. Please and thankyou for daysssss. I went here with two children (grown ass adults) and although we were rambunctious, loud and probably annoying, they treated us amazing! They kept that fire quaso flowing liberally the entire time! Looks like a average hole in the wall but boy was I wrong. Has been my favorite Mexican place around for about 6 months now. Started out as us just needing to get out of town to eat together when we stumbled across this little place in Forrest City. Now we frequently drive here from Mason City to enjoy some delicious authentic Mexican food. I love the chimichanga (I've had a chicken and beef and have never been disappointed) and my boyfriend loves the nachos and tamales! Great margaritas as well! Dare I say this is the best restaurant in Forest City? Is it one of the only restaurants? Besides that, the food is good, the prices are phenomenal and the margaritas are delicioso!!! We visited family in Forest City for Thanksgiving 2014 and this was one of the only restaurants open this week. We went there 3 times in 5 days. Oh wow. We were at the Winibago center and found this restaurant while out for a walk. Stopped by for lunch. Absolutely delicious. Hubby had a Pork Burrito and I had a Burrito Verde. Topped it off with a margarita on the rocks. Had to take half home as portions are very generous. Chips taste homemade so hence the reason we had to take half our lunch home. Our waitress, Cristina, was very attentive and personable. So glad we stopped by. It's a family owned business which is even better instead of the big box restaurants. read more

As Mexican restaurants in Iowa go, this is a nice little place in Forest City, IA. The town is lacking in many options for places to eat out but this restaurant offers a nice mix of foods with the typical cheese, chips/tortillas, meat, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, rice, sour cream and guacamole. My husband and I enjoyed a margarita, chips, salsa, and tacos. We were impressed by the flavor of the meat as most Iowan Mexican restaurants lack flavor. This restaurant offered good customer service and we received plenty of attention. The price was reasonable but the location was off the beaten path. Not many choices in Forest City but this place rocks!! The service is outstanding, the meat is super tender, the salsa is just the right spiciness and they have happy hour all day on Tuesday and Thursday (something you are going to need if having your RV repaired at Winnebago)! This is THE best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. The food is authentic Mexican cuisine. The service is quick, you don't wait around forever for your food like you generally do at restaurants. The complimentary chips and salsa are very tasty. They keep the salsa constantly warm so it's even better! And what to say about the dessert? Flan? Excellent. This has to be one of the hardest reviews I've ever written. I'm a hispanic from California (need I type more). However I understand that mexican food in different parts of this great country will be different or modified. This restaurant is in a quiet beautiful small town where the selection is limited and the community might have a more delicate palate. With that in mind the food was somewhat different than we are used to eating. The beans should be a little thicker, salsa at least a tad spicy.On an up note the produce was amazingly fresh and the customer service was GREAT!
