DO NOT TRUST AY JEWELERY. I took two vintage rings to be resized - one came back with a missing diamond and the other two he completely polished and took off all of the patina. Yes - he has a sign hanging in his shop that he is not responsible for missing diamonds, but an honest worker would tell me up front, instead of WAITING FOR ME TO NOTICE. Plus an experienced worker would have asked me if I wanted the patina taken off all of the rings. He really customized it so that it was a perfect fit - my fiancée was an eighth of a size up from a size 5. Let me start off by saying... I have NEVER left a negative review for anyone / any business. This being my first, I thought it was important to note. On May 28 2024 I dropped off 3 gold necklaces and 3 gold charms to Ara at At Jewelry (I have brought jewelry for repair or repurposing to him in the past with no issues) so I trusted he would get the job done. 1 week later I arrived to pick up my jewelry to find that nothing had been completed and that he LOST a piece of my gold jewelry. He nonchalantly informed me that he lost it while working but it has to be in the shop and he will look for it when he is not busy. He also DID NOT COMPLETE work on the other 5 items. he handed me 3 necklaces cut in half and informed me that he didn't have time to complete. He could have welded the necklaces back in place and instead chose not to after losing my other gold jewelry. When I asked him what next steps were he pointed at a sign "not responsible for lost jewelry". He began yelling at me when I told him that his way of handling his mistake was not professional. His lack of accountability led me to writing this. I am now paying 4x the price to fix his error (not including what I have to pay to replace the gold charm he lost) I will NEVER return to him / his business AY jewelry. About six months ago, I found Ara and AY Jewelry through Yelp (actually my husband found him and said, "Wow, this guy has a TON of really good ratings on Yelp..we should check him out.") For some time I had been looking for a trustworthy jeweler from whom to purchase and attach a 14kt gold watch band onto a very old 14Kt Seiko watch that came only with a leather band. After going to a couple of local jewelers in upstate NY (who were going to charge me 2 or 3 X more the cost I ended up paying with Ara), I decided to try to find someone for the job in the vast array of vendors in the gold/diamond district in midtown Manhattan. It can be a pretty overwhelming and intimidating experience going in and out of some of the shops there, where salesmen (and they are mostly MEN) either completely ignore you or do the opposite and hard sell you--practically following you out onto the sidewalk (One guy literally did this, still waving around a bunch of gold bracelets. But when he realized I wasn't going to bite, he threw his hands up and waved me off with utter disgust). Anyway, I finally went into Ara's shop and explained to him what I wanted, to which he said, "no problem". (That's kind of his mantra, "no problem.") Even though he didn't have anything in stock that would work, still took the job, and helped me source the bracelet from another vendor in the area (he practically took me by the hand to see 'his guy') and facilitated the transaction. The cost of the band was less than half the price the other jewelry stores were going to charge me, and the band I got through Ara's guy was much more substantial too. Once the band came in (which took awhile, and then the price went up slightly, but that was not Ara's fault), Ara did an exquisite job making the band look like it was always part of the watch, and it's now a perfect timeless timepiece. Ya'll. Believe these reviews. This was my first time getting any precious jewelry fixed in America. I had some stones fall off a cocktail ring and it was a very tricky design to fix. I found AY Jewelers, courtesy a friend. I didn't think he'd be able to do it but he's an analytical guy. He took a look at the ring, figured out how the diamonds should be placed and checked it for other defects. Turns out, there were other stones coming lose and would have fallen out too had he not noticed them. He took a little less than a week to fix it and give them back to me. This is the second time I have visited Ara for a ring resizing. My first resizing with him was a piece of cake, but this one was troublesome. The ring I brought in was an antique and apparently brittle because the band broke in two places when he attempted to cut the bottom. Ara took the time to explain the process to fix it and assured me it would be good as new once he was done. I can't say enough about his "bedside manner", he is very convivial and understands how much the pieces mean to his customers. I could tell he really cared about my happiness with the end result and his work is beautiful and long lasting (I know from the first ring he sized for me years ago!). Pricing is excellent, as well. I stopped by to inquire about a small ring that had split on the band, not knowing if it would be possible or the costs. For background, it was a very sedimental ring that I've had since I was a child (I now wear it as a knuckle ring.) I've been looking for a shop to resize my engagement ring. After scouring Yelp for the best I found AY. The shop is conveniently located in the diamond district ( window shopping anyone...?) However you might miss it as it hidden inside a regular building. By subway, the closest station is 47-50 Rockefeller Center. The real deal. Ara created our wedding bands and resized my wife's engagement ring. He is fair, trustworthy, and just pleasant to deal with in an industry that is unfortunately lacking. Engagement Ring Resize - I just showed up. Was my first time dealing with Ara so it took some faith leaving the ring with him but it was fine. He was super kind and flexible wIth us and had it done in a day. Many months later we had an issue with ring (self inflicted) and Ara fixed it for free. Overall ring sizing Wasserstein pretty cheap too, don't remember the full cost buT it was way less than other stores. Wedding Bands - he custom made a diamond band for her and gave me a white gold plain band included in the price. I don't want to out how much we spent :-/ but it was miles less than others hAd quoted and the rings turned out great. I'm still wearing mine 5 years later!!! Cleaning - little known fact jewelry gets super dirty. I HIGHLY recommend stopping here and getting some jewelry cleaned. It takes a few minutes and cost are minimal and your stuff will look great! Ara crushes here. Location- good luck finding this place! It's on the second floor and doesn't have a store front, rather an office.
