Came here yesterday to get the latch on my silver chain fixed. I've had to get this same thing repaired two other times at two different jewelry shops, and both of those places charged me money and made me wait at least 3-4 days to get the chain back. Not Kathe's Jewelry. I walk in there, expecting to just drop the chain off and pay some money for the repair job, but the guy working behind the counter (who I think also co-owns the place???) took my chain to the back for literally 30 seconds and then came back with it good as new and told me it was free of charge. He even gave me an old-fashioned handshake at the end like we were longtime friends. Made me feel like a special man walking out of that place. At any rate, if you live in the East Village or anywhere near it, don't go to any other store for your jewelry repair. The guys that own and operate Kathe's are so friendly and down-to-earth, and it looked to me like they were selling some nice pieces, too. 10/10. read more

- I wear extremely fine jewelry and most places won't even bother helping me fix the chains when they (inevitably break) but they saudered my gold bracelet for $20 (for context it would've cost me $200 to buy a new one so I consider them lifesavers) - I dropped it off in the evening and they told me it would be ready by the next day (very quick turnover) tho I'm sure that varies with the difficulty/complexity of what you need repaired - great work, great pricing, quick service what more could one ask for, will definitely be returning read more

I researched for weeks looking for a jeweler that I could trust to take my family heirloom engagement ring to for significant resizing and repair. I am SO GLAD I chose Jonas and his family business, Kathe's Jewelry for the job. My ring is an illusion solitaire from the 1940s which my grandmother and mother wore daily (approx. 75 years of heavy wear). The area beneath the setting was visibly broken, the shank was worn so thin it felt I could break it with my hands, and it only fit my left pinky finger (size 5.5). I took it in to have the repairs and resizing quoted and was greeted warmly by Jonas who sized me, inspected the ring, and even cleaned the other vintage ring I was wearing. His quote was VERY reasonably priced. I dropped the ring off on 1/17/22 and got a call THREE days later that it was ready. When I picked it up I could not have been more thrilled! The work was *masterfully* executed in every way. I truly could not tell that the ring had been reshanked - every original detail was left untouched and the new gold band segment was flawlessly incorporated and matched to the shape of the original band. It was so comfortable I couldn't even tell I was wearing it. The sizing (up 1.5 sizes from 5.5 to 7.0) was a perfect fit and, again, was not at all noticeable - the inner band remained a perfect circle. In addition to my ring being sparkling clean I received the original shank that had been cut off when I picked up my finished ring (see pictures for just how dramatically thin it had worn over time). I could go on and on about how happy I am but if you're reading this review and are too nervous or distrustful to take your family jewelry in for repair, stop stressing and go to Kathe's. The real surprise is after a long search for a place where I could get a wedding ring cut off I was told "cannot do" and recommended a ER. Which I found out later was the overwhelming reply at most stores. My Tip: if you need a ring cut off purchase for very about $10 to $20 a ring cutter on line. Listen... This place knows what's up when it comes to jewelry repair. I had a medical bracelet where the clasp was extremely loose (yet looked fine) and my bracelet would fall off my wrist without any warning. Thankfully, it kept falling off at home and didn't occur in public. I searched on Yelp to see where a good jewelry repair place was located. Lo and behold, Kathe's Jewelry is a hop and skip away from my place. I messaged them on a Sunday, not expecting an response since they were closed until Monday. Got a response in under 15 minutes from when I sent my message. Very professional and cordial exchange. The biggest concern of theirs was that it was a medical bracelet that I have to wear at all times, so they really wanted me to come in ASAP to get it fixed. I said sure, I will come. I went days later on Thursday, making sure to get it done before leaving the mainland for a bit. Jonas, the guy who helped me was great. My bracelet is brand new, as if nothing affected it. I found this place through yelp while looking for a jewelry repair shop for a couple of necklaces that had a broken chain. I reached out to them through yelp and they responded promptly and answered all my questions. When arrived I was warmly greeted and I didn't have to wait to be helped. My two pieces were ready for pick up the same day. When I got them back not only where they fixed but they had their sparkle back. It's true, what all the other reviews say, Jonas and his family are a reminder of the community and connection you get from a small family owned business. From the moment I walked into Kathe's, Jonas and his sons treated me with such kindness and care. I had 2 heirloom rings - my grandmother's engagement and wedding ring - that needed to be resized for me. As soon as i had taken them out, Jonas was complimenting how beautiful and special they were with such a genuine spirit - something i hadn't expected to move me so much, but it meant so much to me. he handled them with such care, as he did with me. i arrived around 3pm and he told me to come back around 6:30pm and they would be done. When I came back, jonas brought the rings and they were beyond my wildest expectations. Let me start this review by saying I have never done a jewelry repair in NYC and was extremely skeptical of most of the jewelry repair options available given the horror stories that have been shared around treasured items being destroyed by incompetent or careless workmanship. I did extensive research in hopes of avoiding a horror story and ended up choosing Kathe's to repair my $2000 18k gold rope chain that had snapped a link after seeing all of the positive reviews for this family run business on Yelp. I bought this chain in Colombia and it holds significant sentimental value in addition to monetary value. I reached out for a quote on Yelp and was told to come into the store so they could see the damage in person before giving me a quote of $45. The woman I spoke with inspected every part of the chain for damage and confirmed there was none except for the area where the link had snapped. So I left the chain thinking it was in good hands and was told to come back three days later to pick it up. I called the next day to see how repairs were going and to my surprise I was told it was already fixed (two days early). My first thought was wow! That was quick for a complicated repair on a delicate piece. So I arrived later that afternoon and was greeted by the owner of the business. He asked for the ticket number which I provided, and then came back with the chain. As soon as I saw the chain I noticed a different area of damage by the clasp where a few links had seemingly melted together creating a noticeable stiff spot that wasn't there previously. Additionally, the chain was 1-2 inches longer than original, so seemingly it was unwound and wound back incorrectly and the pattern had shifted. The original area where the link had snapped was fixed, but now there was new damage. So I asked the owner what happened with the new damage and his tone shifted dramatically as he launched into offensive mode telling me they fixed the chain perfectly and it was my fault for whatever other damage existed. The woman I originally dropped the chain off with, that had inspected every area of the chain when I received the quote and found no other damage, even came over and began berating me saying whatever damage was there was my fault. The owner even told me he would fix the new damage for another $45 but refused to awknowledge they caused it! I asked him if he could explain the repair process for me and he told me I could pay to take a class on the weekend and insinuated I was too stupid to understand the process. Long story short, after he continued insulting me and telling me they fixed it perfectly and the new damage was my fault, I stopped trying to understand how this could happen and simply took my credit card out and told him to just charge me so I could leave. He refused my payment and kicked me out of the store! Please use your discretion if you plan on getting jewelry repair at this store and do not be blinded by all the positive yelp reviews or fact this is a family owned business. My chain will never be the same and I am appalled at the customer service I was greeted with for asking simple questions that anyone who cares would have asked. DO NOT GO HERE, find someone who is willing to put the time and effort into making their customers happy. Terrible first experience for me and not worth the trauma endured with the owner kicking me out of his store for simply pointing out the damage they caused. read more

I'm here to tell you that in 2023, they are still going strong! My last 5-star review was in 2020. I've been going to them since 2011 due to their unique jewelry from Native American turquoise to biker to fine jewelry and diamonds to cocktail. AMAZING SELECTION! And fair prices. I've been using them for jewelry repair since 2019 from fixing broken pieces, resizing rings, taking out watch links, making chains longer or shorters, and all sorts of stuff.
