8'26 - Empanadas de lomo, good but the mayo based dipping sauce threw my stomach off
    Nonie B.

We were passing through town and found this restaurant from the ratings. We started with their Empanadas de Lomo. The outsides were nice and crispy, the meat inside was flavorful. My only Issue was the mayo based dip. It threw me off and couldn't eat them. Saved for the next day to enjoy them. My Peruvian go to is always the Lomo Saltado. And being that my first taste of it was in Portland, Oregon, it set the standard for me. This one was in a whole lot of gravy, which I'm not used to at all. It was good, but felt and tasted like a stew. The picture is me pulling up the meat, onions and tomatoes to the surface. So there was even more liquid than it appears. We also had the Aji de Gallina, which was chicken with rice and there flavorful sauce. It was delicious.

It's an adventure trying the dishes I haven't tried. We ordered the fried whole dish I wouldn't normally ordered and I'm soooo glad we did. The fish was fried crispy outside with perfect salt and pepper seasoning. The inside was juicy and fresh. The sauce came with plenty of seafood like scallops and calamari. While I was eating it, I already think of ordering this dish again next time!! The empanadas is yummy. The pastry wasn't doughy which is exactly I like. The green sauce came with it definitely made it even better. The short rib and bean dish was good. I like the seasoning and think it would go well with lamb too. The short rib was a little dry to me but the overall taste is still good. I'm definitely looking forward to get the whole fish again and try different dishes!

    Cocktail time!

We walked in after a very long hike and immediately felt refreshed upon entering with the vibrant colors & vibes inside the restaurant. However, we opted to sit outside as the sun was still out. Our service was impeccable. There are such a variety of interesting tropical drinks to choose from and although mine was tasty, I much preferred the cocktail my friend ordered "The Petaluma". It had a splash of mezcal in it to give it a smoky flavor. My friend ordered a steak appetizer which she said was divine. I had a corn cake appetizer, which was tasty yet a little bit dry however, the salad was fresh and quite pleasing. I would like to return here to try some of the other exotic, & enticing dishes and drinks.

OMG what a hidden GEM!! We came to Petaluma to visit the Lavender Farm and Honey and decided to try this place for lunch and I'm SO HAPPY we did. The issue now is how far this place is to us but if you're in the area HIGHLY recommend. First off - the service and staff - so friendly and welcoming. And the decor - all welcoming, hip, and beautiful! There was quite a few of us so we had a lot of different dishes and EVERYONE raved about their dishes! Let me start with mine. I got the Aji de Gallina - it's a Peruvian classic dish with shredded chicken in a creamy yellow pepper sauce served with rice. This is my base line for how good a Peruvian restaurant is and I will tell you - they have the absolute BEST ONE I've had EVER. Don't get me wrong - I've had really good ones else where but this dish was PERFECT - tenderness of the shredded chicken and the sauce was AMAZING. I'm drooling just thinking about this dish!! Hubby got the Cau Cau de Mariscos - which is a stew made with a variety of seafood such as scallops, octopus, shrimp, and calamari in a hot skillet that also had a broth made of onions, garlic, amarillo peppers, potatoes, carrots, fish stock, and mint. The seafood was cooked PERFECTLY and the broth was AMAZINGLY fresh and flavorful! Another drool dish. Friends raved over their Arroz Con Mariscos - they've had this same dish at other places and Ayawaska was the absolute best with BIG fresh seafood and the most flavorful rice!! At other places, the seafood is chopped up - this place serves the seafood whole (like the shrimp) or in big pieces!! I wish I ordered one to go to bring home for dinner!! Another favorite was the Salmon Con Creama De Poro - my friend LOVED it - she said the salmon was cooked perfectly with delicious veggies and a potato au gratin on the side. She asked for leek sauce on the side which was perfect for her. Very filling dish! Another friend loved his traditional Lomo Saltado which was made so special because they used Filet Mignon, along with the traditional red onion, tomatoes, cilantro, garlic, soy and lomo sauce. It came with the french fries & rice. And he said the fries were perfectly crisp and were not greasy at all - a perfect complement to the lomo saltado! We also had a friend who got the chicken empanadas. She loved it as the outside was light and crispy and the inside had the Aji de Gallina filling! It also came with a parsley dipping sauce which really accented the empanadas. They loved it so much, they ordered extra to bring home to their daughter!! LOVED LOVED this place - and again - wish they were closer to me - but if I'm in the area this would be my go to place for SURE!! OH and I almost forgot - a few of us got the CHICHA MORADA!!! A MUST - it's non alcoholic and is a traditional, non-fermented Peruvian beverage made with purple corn (maíz morado), pineapple, spices, and lime. SO REFRESHING and SO GOOD. Am going to look for this drink at all the Peruvian restaurants I go to now!!

We stopped here for an early dinner b cause the location is right on the river and they have an outdoor patio so we could at with our little dog. Decor is very hip and bright and the whole restaurant looks very new. Service was fast and friendly. My in-laws got the CONCHITAS A LA PARMESANA which they said were very yummy and the SECO DE CARNE which looks delicious. My husband got the EMPANADAS DE POLLO and he loved them. I got the ARROZ CON MARISCOS and it was jam packed with seafood. They do not scimp on the scallops, calamari and octopus. It was so yummy! The flavors were amazing and it was perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend. My husband got the piranha cocktail and it came In a fun glass and he really enjoyed it.

Churros (these were not on the menu but recommended by our server). I would go back just for these

We went for lunch for a co-worker. It is right on the water so we sat outside on this beautiful day. Staff were helpful and kind. Food was absolutely amazing and we can't wait to go back. Their Mocktails were top notch. We had churros for dessert, but they were not on the menu. I would go back just for those.

Came here for 2nd time and everything was good! The server is nice and accommodating. The food were delicious! We shared appetizers and had cocktail called Bella which is really good! Octopus was not outstanding but good. Yucca fries were great! Ambiance is amazing! The building next door has live music so that was a fun addition!

My son and I stopped in for my birthday lunch. The restaurant had seating outdoors and indoors. We decided to sit inside it was very comfortable. The food was amazing! We shared some chicken empanadas and some ceviche. We both ordered a bowl of soup. I forgot the name of the soup, but it was full of potatoes, meat, egg and noodles the flavor was great. Our service was excellent

Overall, I like Ayawaska. We walked in on a friday night with no reservation and were seated immediately which was great. Our waiter was good although it did take us a minute to be able to order. We had the pulpo, ceviche, the beef empanadas, and the chicken empanadas. The ceviche and octopus were just okay. I did like the sauce that came with the octopus. The empanadas were both good and were served with good sauces as well. The cocktail I had was good and I appreciated all the options.

    Vivace Salad
    Gabriela T.

I just went to this place for the first time. My husband and I usually go to the one in Novato. The ambience was really beautiful in Petaluma. I wasn't too hungry, so I got a salad. I think it was called the Vivace. I cannot eat dairy or gluten, and I did check with the waiter, and he said it was gluten and dairy free. I loved everything about the salad. It had such great flavors that all meshed together. The only thing I would caution others about is the possibility of gluten cross-contamination. After eating, I experienced abdominal bloating and stomach distention, which are symptoms I unfortunately know well from past gluten exposure. Those with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease may want to use caution. Even with that experience, I would still return and try something else from the menu. Overall, I recommend checking this place out.

    Risoto aji amarillo y medallone
    Daiane D.

Every single dish I try here surprises me with how incredible the flavor is. I honestly love everything. The risotto was absolutely fantastic -- perfectly cooked, rich, and full of flavor. And the drink? Easily one of the best I've ever had in my life. You can truly tell there's care and quality in every detail of the food. This place never disappoints.

    Très leches cake
    Angie L.

Love the food here and the vibe is so fun! I ordered the salmon with potatoes au gratin and roasted veggies and it was so delicious. I also tried out one of their cocktails called Harmony, it was very floral and the pear vodka is the star of the show! For dessert we ordered the lava cake and très leches cake. The lava cake isn't anything to write home about, but the très leches cake is always a hit (and may or may not have been the reason I came back!). Will definitely be coming back again!

Talk about happy tastebuds. Our main dish was a beautiful salmon fillet prepared perfectly with just a hint of lemon rubbed on, and presented on a bed of shelled brussel sprouts lightly roasted. The coup de gras was the dessert: a slice of peanut butter and a flourless chocolate cake. Luis recommended a sangiovese for my wife and she enjoyed it immensely. This restaurant I would proudly recommend to all my friends. I would have rated it higher than a five if I could have.

Service - the gal behind oysters bar was very skilled, very informative, and kept the food comin'. She created I wish I could call her out by name but it wasn't on the receipt that was texted to me. Food - on a scale of 1 to 10 it was an 11! * Lemonade was had good lemon taste and just the right acid/sugar balance. I learned that a batch is made each day, and occasionally two. The best I've had anywhere in Sonoma County or Marin County! * I order the first three items on the oyster list (this time two of each) and came up with a new favorite. Then I added four more to the favorite. At 81 I don't do well on short term memory! I love that what was done so right was the lemon and the mignonette (sp?) sauce that was exactly balanced. The last restaurant in Ptown and two absolutely terrible with a red and a white. * Next I ordered a Shrimp Cocktail. They screamed fresh, perfectly boiled that let the shrimp flavor out, and again the red sauce was perfectly balanced between flavor and heat. Had to made in house. And they just nicely crisply cool, not in a cold place that overwhelms the flavor. I don't think I've every had one this good! * Next was a pair of fried oysters. I was prepared for some oily, bready things that would ruin all of the above. BUT NO, the perfect balance was incredible!! * Last was the clam chowder. I'm soooo fussy about this after growing up in the NorthEast (Connecticut) and 4 years of college in Maine blew this one away. It lacked the perfection and freshness of my East Coast standard. But I finished with the last of lemonade and all was well. My standard has never been "perfect." I don't meet that standard, so the chef shouldn't have to either. Hey, maybe he's never been in Maine! P.S. there's not section for this, because the above doesn't happen without OWNERS that create processes and hire people that and buy the best incredients. Kudos, gals!!

The bar and the dining room area appeared very modern and clean. Started our meal with the Gochujang glazed cauliflower wings and they were phenomenal! This was definitely one of our favorite items of the night! The Parker rolls were served with a homemade butter and they were light and airy which made them pair nicely with the fresh golden beet salad. They served a very generous portion of lettuce and added all kinds of goodies in it- the burrata, pumpkin seeds , homemade french bread croutons , tomatoe and beets lightly coated with the balsamic dressing - yum!
