We stayed in Petaluma and our friends recommended The Shuckery. We got here right before Happy Hour ended (3pm-6pm) and was able to get a dozen oysters and rose' at HH prices. We got an additional dozen because they were so tasty. Raw oysters - Well shucked. Very minimal shell pieces if at all. Fresh clean tasting. The varieties we had were called Sweet Jesus and Kuushi. Mignonette was delicious, light & tangy but not overpowering. Baked oysters - my sis ordered one Rockefeller and one Miso. The Rockefeller was "ok" but the Miso was "absolutely divine". Braised short ribs - absolutely delicious. The mashed potatoes underneath was creamy and had a distinct cheesy taste. The meat was tender and flavorful. The greens brightened up an otherwise heavy dish. Linguine di Mare - very tasty. Pasta was well cooked and seafood was fresh and not overcooked. The accompanying toast (from local bakery/cafe Della Fattoria) was crispy and chewy and sopped up the cream sauce well. And that cream sauce. Absolutely amazing. Wish I had more of the toast to get all of that delicious sauce. Service - we did not have reservations but were seated quickly upon arrival. Everyone was friendly and attentive. What a great place to enjoy super fresh oysters at Happy Hour! The service is great and the food is amazing! Oysters are fresh. The daily selections are different but I'm always amazed by the freshness. The fish tacos are done perfectly with fried fish and house tortillas. The surprising item is tinned squid ink that served with toasted bread and pickles. It seems like a new trend in Sonoma county with tinned fish. I've always heard how much protein it's packed in this tiny tin so it's definitely worth a try! The goat cheesecake is an absolute delight. It was so good that I forgot to take a picture. This is my favorite restaurant in Petaluma. The hotel that it's located in, Hotel Petalumua, is also very historic and charming. I stayed here recently during a family trip and we dined here twice (almost a third time). The service was friendly and quick and the space was cozy. We came around happy hour, which was a nice bonus. We ordered quite a bit for the table since we were all hungry from a day of traveling. Raw Oysters - These were from the happy hour menu at $2, which is super reasonable considering how much oysters are in major cities. We ended up getting 2 dozen of these for the table. It comes with mignonette sauce, cocktail sauce, horseradish, and lemon wedges. From dining here on different days, we found that they have different oysters for their happy hour. All were super fresh and well-shucked. Clam Chowder - This was delicious and one of the best ones I've had recently. The soup was very balanced, had the right amount of clams, and the perfect level of creaminess. On our second visit, we got the bread bowl, and the bread was amazing (also from Della Fattoria). Della Fattoria Bread Basket | Grilled Della Fattoria bread served with garlic confit, olives, tomato and cilantro - This bread is so tasty and so is the confit you dip the bread in (Della Fattoria is a local bakery that you can also dine at). Caesar Salad | Little Gems romaine, parmesan, anchovies, and Della Fattoria croutons dressed with house anchovy Caesar dressing - This was super fresh and exactly as you would expect from a Caesar salad with anchovies. Miso Butter Baked Oysters - These are amazing! I like these even more than the raw oysters (which is super rare for me). My favorites were the Miso Butter, I've never had anything quite like it. It's topped with masago, which adds a nice touch. On our second time here, we also tried all the other baked oyster flavors and everyone's favorites were Miso Butter and Rockefeller). Fish Taco Plate | House made corn tortillas stuffed with pan seared rock cod, house coleslaw, lemon creme fraiche, salsa verde, and pickled veggies - These were super tasty. We had a member of the family who wasn't as keen on seafood and he loved it. I tried a bite and it was very good. The garnish and sauce complemented the dish well. All in all, I had a great time here and would definitely be back the next time I'm in Petaluma. The happy hour is very popular, so be sure to either make a reservation or come early. Parking may be tricky if you're not staying at the hotel and are dining here during busy meal times because it's mostly street parking. Quick tip: There is a parking garage across from Petaluma Market that's about a 3-minute walk from here. By the way, there aren't elevators, at least not to my knowledge, so please keep in mind if you have anyone in your party that might have mobility difficulties (you can still park on the first floor). read more

We were there 2 weeks ago for Spring Break and I am looking for any excuse to get my butt up there again. The happy hour was sooooo amazing. Honestly, we drove 499 miles because I wanted to go to Hog Island for Oysters. Stayed at Tapestry and did some internet sleuthing. Turns out The Shuckery won accolades for having best oysters in Sonoma County so we had to try their Happy Hour. The prices can't be beat. And. I discovered their oysters can't be beat either! They were so fresh and succulent. Ummmm. Both the hubby and I liked the Shuckery oysters more than Hog Island. ( Did lightning just strike? We pretty much had an oyster off as we went to Hog the next day). We also had fried oysters, calamari, fish tacos and the amazing bread with dipping oil. All happy hour menu and prices. I was expecting great things from Shuckery. The building is very cool inside and out. We sat at the counter in front of the kitchen, which is fun because we can see the food as it's coming out. But the food itself was mostly disappointing. First the highlight: the clam chowder in the sourdough bread bowl was tasty with a decent amount of clams. The bread was fresh, soft on the inside and Toasty on the outside. It was $18 and I would get it again. But the tuna Crudo tostada, which was about the size of a corn tortilla, was unmemorable and overpriced at $23. And the miso oysters were OK but not great. The Caesar salad, which was $18, was so bad I couldn't even eat it. The lettuce was not fresh and the dressing was ordinary. The menu said it is served with little gem lettuce, but it was actually a wedge of old Romaine lettuce that you have to cut up to eat. It's funny because I saw a plate of that salad coming out of the kitchen and thought to myself that it didn't look very good, but it couldn't be the Caesar salad because it's not little gem lettuce. Joke was on me. We also ordered fried oysters, but they forgot to bring them out or else they got backed up in the kitchen or something so that was taken off of our bill. Still the bill came to about $90 with one nonalcoholic beer and one iced tea included. The restaurant added a service fee of somewhere between 4 and 5%. We weren't aware of that until reading the fine print on the bill. Oh, and the waiter only presented me a receipt to sign and give back to him. I had to request a receipt to take with me. This is a cute sea themed resturant attached to the Hilton Tapestry Hotel. There is not a lot of seating available inside, but you can sit throughout the hotel and they will serve you. They have a full bar that is inside the hotel lobby. The staff were all very friendly and extremely attentive. We came for Happy Hour and ordered two items, the Seafood Cocktail and The Shuck's Ceasar Salad. The seafood cocktail shrimp and crab claws were good. The cocktail sauce was bland, definitely would like more horseradish added. The Shuck's Ceasar Salad was fresh and crisp! It was a nice addition to get a sliver of anchovy on the top. There was not too much salad dressing that overwhelmed the plate. Overall, both of these dishes were decent. We stayed at the hotel and they allow you to charge your food and drink to your room. After all my years in Petaluma, I had never tried The Shuckery. I always assumed it was mostly about oysters, and since I'm not into oysters, I never really considered it. I also thought it might be more of a bar than a place for a proper meal. I didn't realize they actually offer a variety of fish dishes--and I do enjoy fish because I'm not a meat eater. So we finally decided to go and sat at the counter. Our waiter, Chris, was friendly and straightforward. I was pleasantly surprised by the clam chowder--it was light and flavorful, not the thick, heavy kind that's hard to eat. You can also order it in a bread bowl. We liked the fried cauliflower although fried food was not a good choice for an evening meal, it came with multiple sauces, including a Korean BBQ sauce. The Della Fattoria bread came with a spread on a plate; it was tasty, but I was expecting a bit more to it. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and everyone there seemed friendly. During my dining experience, I coincidentally came across the Happy Hour menu (3-5 PM). I was informed that the fresh oysters were $2 each. As far as the food, I was able to try the following: * Oysters (Willapa Bay, Washington): These particular oysters provided a light briny, sweet flavor profile. They were extremely fresh and enjoyable, especially paired with the Cocktail Sauce and Mignonette Sauce. * Clam Chowder: Straightforward and tasty. * Ceviche: I appreciated the light spicy kick with the peppers and the inclusion of rock cod fish. The acidity of the dish was perfectly balanced. So delicious! * Calamari Mixto: Fried and seasoned to perfection. Every bite was delectable. Came here on a Saturday evening and the restaurant is still located within the Petaluma hotel. The interior is very charming and demure. We booked a Reservation through open table and were seated right away once we arrived. The hostess and server were very friendly and nice. It was very quiet at first but as the night went on it became more lively. We ordered 18 oysters, calamari mixto, clam chowder and ceviche. The food overall was fantastic! the oysters were fresh and delicious, and the ceviche and clam chowder were really good too. The calamari mixto was very light and crispy. This is such a cute place in the cute town of Petaluma. We ordered the Clam Chowder Bread Bowl, Calamari and fish tacos. The Clam Chowder was delicious! The Calamari was different than I ever had, it had fried jalapeños and fried radishes along with it. So yummy! The tartar sauce was also delicious. The fish tacos were so good, fried fish and fresh. I'm not an oyster fan, but the trays of oysters coming out to other customers looked good and you can tell they are popular here, hence the name Shuckery. Our waiter was attentive and was giving everyone around us great explanations of the oysters, sauces, and special dishes. We were driving through on our way back to Sacramento from the Bay Area and decided to stop in Petaluma to hopefully bypass traffic and I'm so glad we stopped. As someone who has shucked oysters before, I know that it isn't always easy, especially to do it cleanly AND fast, so I understand everyone is going to have a different skill level, but on our last visit, not only did the oysters have a ton of shell fragments, they were also completely mangled. This was my Father's Day Dinner with my bride, my daughter and my granddaughter. I moved to Petaluma abut 6 years ago and I can remember eating alone at the bar while I was looking for a new home. I have been though several iterations of Shuckery (and Luma Bar and Eatery!) since then. I have to say this iteration is great, and this instance was the best meal at Shuckery ever! I ordered the California white wine blend and it was a first - my wife and I BOTH liked the same white wine! And we just finished celebrating our 54th anniversary. I started with two each of the top three oysters. I opted out of the one from MX a bit strong with the other 3. I asked the gal that brought over the oysters and asked for her suggestion. She said I'd start with this (it's sweeter) and the the other two (which are similar but not identical) as a first round and then go back the other way for the second round. It's always fun to be helped by someone who is as much an oyster lover as I am, just younger and waaay more knowledgeable! Then I had one baked oyster with the pepper (my wife had one with the parm). It was kick *ss! Then two of the fried oysters, and I even got my "no I don't like oysters" granddaughter to try a half of one and she came back for the other half. Then I had the sautéed scallops. Good as usual. But I still wanted more... I had an entrée of the clams and mussels and Della's toast all in a great broth with some spinach leaves. Sounds strange but it is GOOOOOD! We split the two desserts, creme brûlée and mixed berry galette. MMMMM good! I think that having every course be as great as the previous ones is nigh near impossible, but it happed for me on Father's Day 2024! The Shuckery is the real deal and a perfect spot for all seafood lovers! Hands down one of the best happy hours in downtown Petaluma! They also have happy hour seven days a week from 3-5 PM so if you can't make it during the week, stop in on the weekend!  A couple of favorite menu items includes: - Fresh oysters that rotate daily - Ceviche with cod, which is so refreshing - Fish tacos that are scrumptious!  - Calamari - Cauliflower wings - And of course the Della Fattoria bread basket that comes with garlic, olive oil and tomatoes! Overpriced bland food with questionable bussiness practices. T....S was our server. He got our order wrong, and corrected it by "discounting" the bill. He presented us with a total amount, no detail. Is that even legal? Come to find out, they charge 5% for service, then suggest another 18-20%, AND they calclated these amount on a "prediscounted total" which included the items the server added that we never ordered. Taling my money based on your mistakes is not ok. Saddly, I wanted to love this place. I love oysters. But, it's just not worth it. For example a "sangria" that is 2oz of sparkling nonsense on 6oz or ice, for over $10. The suggested cevlche was just a few chunks of fish tossed with shavings, but zero flavor - no sauce, lime, anything. I have no idea how this place gets good reviews. It's a smaller sized restaurant and unfortunately had a hard time with the noise levels for my parents. We did go out on a busy Friday night so maybe not quite as loud on a weekday!
