TLDR version:
Overall I highly recommend this region of AYSO for anyone interested in kids soccer, both boys and girls as young as 4 years old. It is great for both Fall and Spring soccer.

We are now in our 4th year with AYSO region 58 and have two kids (8 and 5) in the program. Every year we do both the Fall and the Spring programs (Fall is the "core" and Spring is with the UK Soccer program), and both are awesome. I'm have coached every Fall that we have been in it and it has been great, the training and support is excellent...I'm not saying everything is perfect but this is AYSO and it's all volunteers from the lowest assistant to the region commissioner and they do a great job. This is a very large AYSO region (~1,500 kids I believe) and that creates plenty of challenges, but plenty of opportunities as well, including challenges for a broad range of skill levels that you might not find in other rec leagues or even other AYSO regions (based on what I've heard from people with experience in other areas).
I do also feel like I need to address the "team balance" questioned by a previous reviewer. In the "Instructional Divisions" (4yr-7yr old) the teams are randomly placed other than anyone who requests to be put together with another player specifically (friends, etc). This does sometimes lead to "stacked" teams, but it's not a big deal as it's supposed to be for fun and learning, no score is kept, no standings, definitely no "World Cup". In the "Competitive Divisions" (8yr old and above), there is a draft system that balances out teams to the best of their ability and having been through the draft this year I don't think there is any way they could do it better. That doesn't mean every team will end up equal, but it does mean they are as balanced as they can be. Some parents and coaches can get a bit over the top, but any part of this that is "overly competitive" is definitely not coming from AYSO or the people in charge of Region 58. Everything they emphasize day in and day out is about fun and development. read more
