In between the folks live in rooms they decorate and eat great New Orleans food. There is a small coffee bar, large tv area, a cathedral and church. The staff are very personable - night swing shift not as much so - a doctor prescribes drugs and nurses do the hour to hour day to day. There is transportation to town and a daily happy hour. How that works with the meds I don't know. But It is very expensive. Hope you save money on top of your ssi check. I Believe it's about $70000 a year to start. The building is stately, well kept, large rooms and lovely chandeliers. Out front there are pools and fountains with koi. Nice stately trees. The area has lots of things to do . Whole Foods is nearby.

I read something saying the building was constructed sometime around 1999 and it still looks to be in excellent condition. This assisted living community has very nice communal areas. The atmosphere for the residents seems active and vibrant. During my visits the residents were very enthusiastic when lunch time arrived with a lot of pleasant seating areas to enjoy meals. I had the opportunity to eat here and met the chef who has worked here for over 20 years! I was amazed to discover the chef had previously worked at such NOLA legends as LaRuth's, Commander's Palace and Salvatoire's restaurants. Overall, if I ever had to end up in an assisted living community, this location is one of just a very few on my list of options.

It's the best way to know who's going into their apartment & whats going on. Keep an eye on the CNAs. It's awful when you see a CNA searching thru your dad's closet & items, even looking at the sizes in his hats. One CNA went into his room at 1am, turned on all the lights, woke up my dad & asked where his laundry basket was. We were misled on the care of our father. Nighttime medication given in daytime (nurse refused to give pm meds), showers 3x/wk (instead once or twice/wk), housekeeping 1x/wk (only came 2x in 8wks). My dad fell once in the main dining room & once in main hallway, since no one watches him. Broke his hip & femur. We moved our dad out of that overpriced apartment (awful smelly carpet) right after. Never again.

The grounds are beautiful. I also have my miniature Schnauzer with me and she loves the staff and all the residents. I do believe they love her too. They have a wonderful doggie park. This faciliity is always clean and well taken care of. I don't think you can find a better place to live in the area. My son also feels like I am living in a great place and he doesn't have to worry about me. I am very happy at Summerfield Sr. Living. Shirley S.
