Touring the Capital and needed some late lunch so this is where we landed! It was about 1:30 and not many people in the restaurant/bar. My husband had tamales and I had cheese enchiladas. I ordered the dinner size because it came with 3 while the lunch came with 2 and every enchilada plate I have had at other restaurants, the enchiladas were pretty small. I got cheese enchiladas and they were stuffed with cheese. I ended up only able to eat 2! They were without a doubt the best cheese enchiladas I have ever had. My husband's tamales were great also. The negatives to this restaurant was I thought it was a little expensive for what you got. They would not substitute a side salad for the rice and beans like most restaurants I've been to will do. The server said he would have to charge us extra. Speaking of the server, Aaron, he was not very attentive. He was much more interested in socializing with one of his friends in the restaurant. I'm not sure how this place has such good reviews. The cheese in my enchalada wasn't even melted; my tortillas were small, flavorless, and smothered in Ragu-level Alfredo sauce; my beans tasted like they were reheated canned product; and my entire plate was lukewarm. Despite moving from the Southwest, I can pretty easily forgive bad Mexican food in the presence of a good margarita, but sadly, my margarita was so laden with sour mix as to detect no tequila--and I don't even *like* a lot of tequila in my margaritas. The end result: I paid $20 for two cups of sour mix and uncooked cheese. Some locals who have been here longer than I have since warned me about this place, and I echo their sentiment--it's not worth your money. read more

Nothing special, but service was good. In a desolate downtown Baton Rouge, this is a good place to grab decent Mexican food. Just down from the Hilton and Indigo hotels makes this a good place to find food. Built for the lunch crowd, nice alternative for dinner. read more

Quick serivce, good margaritas, frresh salsa but bland entrees however they did come out fast but that could be due to the lack of wffort. House margarita was not very good. But top shelf was awesome. Seared tuna tacos were to die for. Wife chicken enchiladas and loved them the chicken was very tender and well seasoned. I read an article about it in The Advocate so I decided to go down there and give it a shot. I never go eat downtown! It's located in the old Little Village restaurant. We went on a Saturday for an early lunch and there was nobody there. And only one other table showed up and we were there for two hours. We started off with some fried jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese. They were good but didn't sit well in my stomach. The complimentary salsa was good and had a lot of spice to it. I ordered the chicken nachos appetizer. Half of my food was burned and the other half had no flavor whatsoever. My sister ordered the Relleno de Res and she loved it. I brought some home to my husband and he enjoyed it as well. My mom got the chicken fajitas. She said they were good but a little spicy. Not good enough for her to seek out again. I might try to go again at nighttime and hope for a better crowd and maybe have a margarita. read more

Due to multiple great reviews about the chimichangas, I ordered the chicken fajita chimichanga. So delicious! I had to refrain from eating it all (they're large)! They also make a great painkiller (alcoholic beverage). read more

I was a big fan of this Mexican restaurant. But I was very disappointed when they raised their prices on Spanish Town parade day. I took a group of friends there and was blown away when I received my bill. I have taken my guests there every year while they where visiting for the parade. I will never go there again. It's just okay. It's also a little overpriced for the portion sizes and lunch portions, but maybe that's because of its downtown location. I'm pretty neutral about this place. I don't have anything bad to say about it, but the same goes for the good. I've been here to dine in and I've ordered carry-out. I'm not sure when I'll be back after the to go order. read more

Great Mexican restaurant located in walking distance from several hotels and parking areas downtown. Their salsa is delicious. The chicken taco salad and shrimp quesadillas are the best! Service and staff are good as well. Plus, they usually have drink specials. read more

We arrived at 7:40 on a Thursday night. The place wasn't really busy- a few people at the bar and around eight dining. 80% of the dining area was available, but it took more than five minutes to be seated. We should have taken this as a sign and left! We sat at a booth next to the bar, ordered margaritas, and were then forgotten about for the next 15 minutes. When our "large" margaritas were delivered, they were served to us in small glasses because it was 'all they had left'. Again, the place was nowhere near full. It was a blessing in disguise that we only got smalls, though, because the margarita was nothing to write home about. The service was terrible and food mediocre. There are much better Mexican restaurants in the area- don't waste your time at this one! read more

This place has pretty decent Tex-Mex. The servers are friendly and the food is edible. Extra star because its cheap! Its your basic white-people-making-Mexican-style-food-for-white-people joint. Daughter and I were in Baton Rouge for one night for a wedding. We walked across the street to Aztecas because it was open and close. The food was not bad but got us the face that we ordered a well drink but we're brought top shelf. Would have been awesome if we weren't charged top shelf price won't go back. read more

I went here twice during my month long stay in Baton Rouge and loved it both times. I went on Sunday so that the meter parking was free. I don't think that they have their own lot. The carne asade tacos and steak fajitas are great and so is their quest blanco. Others in my party had the chimichanga and the reviews were mixed, but the portions looked huge. Be warned, no one in Louisiana seems to have Tabasco. I like it on everything and was really disappointed during my visit. I have a bottle in the truck and the only condition I made when buying my wife her LV purses was that she always have the red stuff I fell in love with eating MREs. Yet, the birth state of the best hot sauce seems to be boycotting it. read more

Never again....starting going to this place from the beginning and had a fair to ok experience....happened to go on Cinco de mayo and the food was overcooked scraps as beef fajitas....the drink menu has no prices for anything...beers, margaritas, etc....2 of us spent nearly 70.00 for 2 basic margaritas....crappy and weak....12.00 a piece....and bad food....don't do this to people who live in this city and wont be back....you wont last much longer....bartender is a ass also....mouthing off on everyone with attitude.... read more

We went for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Very good Hot Tamales. 2 big tamales, they were made with chicken and stuffed pretty good! It had a white cheesy sauce which was very good, but I added some of the salsa on top for more spicy red like a traditional hot tamale. I do plan to go back soon. Liz read more

My husband and I have used Takeout Express and ordered food from Azteca's twice. Both times Azteca's has messed up our order. The food is good but if you do not get what you order, what is the point? Garrett at Takeout Express has been wonderful and very understanding. We will use Takeout Express again but we will not eat at Azteca's again as they cannot get our simple order (two entrees and dessert) correct. The second time Azteca's messed up my order, it would take an hour for me to get the correct replacement, so I did not get anything to eat. Very disappointing. read more

I am still on my quest to find a really good Mexican place in Baton Rouge. Aztecas is better than most, but still not my holy grail. Their happy hour margarita specials are fantastic, and I really like their chips and salsa. Most of the entrees I've had are meh... kind of bland. read more
