When the installer came to install the fireplace that we purchased from Rich at American Hearth Home, he turned the pilot knob and pushed the "start: button, and our fireplace started. The installer told us that "there is nothing wrong with your fireplace, and he is not going to give you your money back." We told him to return the fireplace kit, which was unboxed and unused, to American Hearth and Home. The installer stated that Rich told him, "to leave kit in our front yard." Subsequently, we called Rich, and he would not return our calls. WE ARE GOING TO COURT. HE IS UNETHICAL!! DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH HIM!!

I wish I would have read the reviews for this company, American Hearth & Home before I did business…read morewith the owner Richard Landrum. I don't usually write reviews, but this company/individual really needs to have some light shed on his business practices and behaviors. I hope, for your sake you take time to read this one. This guy was rude, condescending and nasty from the beginning. I was only doing business wit him due to the fact that my home builder recommended him. Needless to say, I put Richard's attitude and mouth behind me, because I needed to get some things accomplished. My first personal encounter with Richard was actually my wife's encounter. We are building a house right behind a trailer we are living in. I instructed my wife to send him to the new house when he gets here. He tried to barrel his way in to our trailer and my wife instructed him to go to the new house. Rudely, he barked at her in an aggravated loud tone of voice with "where is the new house at?" and rolled his eyes after she informed him. When he did make his way back to the new house I showed him where the fireplace would be. At that time he got loud and spoke to me in an aggravated voice. Again, I ignored this behavior, because I need to get some things accomplished. About money... I was originally quoted $3500 for a 1000 gallon propane tank. When it came down to purchasing said, tank the price jumped to $5k+. Of course Covid was to blame. I did not dispute this due to the fact that I need to get some things accomplished. My second encounter was today, and what a doozie it was. Like previously, I instructed my wife to send him to the new house, because that is where I was. He came to the back door this time and again tried to barrel his way in to our trailer after asking rudely, "Where's Nathan?" When my wife stopped him and told him to go to the new house, Richard rudely and loudly stated to my wife "I want him here". My wife graciously shut the door in his face. Good for her. I of course did not know this at the time. He did make his way to our new house under construction. We chatted for a bit (unusually cordial) and I showed him where we want to put the new propane tank. All good for now. When it was time to do paper work, I told him I will get my checkbook. He was adamant about wanting to get in our house. He stated he needs to sit down and have a table. I stated there is a table in the new house. He then stated he needs light to see. Really?!?! I politely told him I don't want you in my house. Then he rudely and loudly stated "I don't give a sh*t what it looks like". Now, with covid, our personal space, and many other reasons, I do not want this man in my house. I told him again, I do not want you in my house. Any person with any kind of common sense or couth would have let this go and respect what a customer wants, but he insisted, loudly, angrily and rudely, "Why don't you want me in your house?". At this point I was livid and responded, "Because I don't want you in my F'ing house". He then said goody bye and started to walk away. Really?!?! I asked him, "are you really going to do this?". He stated to me, "you're really showing your true colors now, aren't you?". Really?!?! That when I told him to get the F off my property. Low and behold, he proceeded to stick him middle finger up at me in the middle of my property for more that 10 seconds. He went to his vehicle, then came back a few seconds later and yelled at me, pointing to the new house, "get your fat ass in the house". Now as you might be able to construe, I lost it. I immediately got in his face, threatened bodily harm and told him to get F off my property. He then proceed to tell me I was a blue eyed bastard. He finally went away. Like other posters have commented, this guy is rude arrogant, and a downright a$$hole. I have put together this long review in hopes that others get the hint and do not deal with Richard or this company. Dick is a nickname for Richard and is certainly fitting with this character.

I had assumed (incorrectly) that the initial inspection was complimentary. The technicians who visited my home were professional, knowledgeable, and spent approximately 30 minutes taking measurements and inspecting the chimney cap. However, they left only a handwritten sheet with basic dimensions and no clear documentation of costs or next steps. The invoice was sent two days later from an unfamiliar email address that did not identify the company or the technicians, which added to the confusion. Finally, the companies accounting department reached out, leaving multiple voicemails to address payment due. When I called to address the charge, I expressed my concerns about the lack of upfront communication. The accounting representative was polite and apologetic, and I do believe the company values customer service, however, there was a clear shortfall in transparency regarding pricing. Given the unexpected inspection fee, as well as the high estimates for additional work and concerns about communication, I have decided to pursue services with a company that places a stronger emphasis on clear and upfront pricing.

Scheduling is easy, pricing is transparent, communication is outstanding. Field teams have great "bedside manner" and can clearly explain (to me or my clients/homeowners) a given situation, recommended repairs, etc. I wouldn't call anyone else for chimney inspection and/or repair needs.
