All due to a slab leak that, thankfully, was very small. The first estimate for all three was $5500 which was just one number, and seemed to be pulled out of his posterior. I asked for a breakdown of the three jobs and he was resistant, telling me the combo was a "good deal". When I got the breakdown it was $7175 (I don't think it cost him $1675 for the breakdown). And he estimated $500 a foot for the slate (!) (materials supplied) and it's because he had to "level to area". I've laid tons of flooring and that's typical with any installation. For 170 feet of click flooring (my materials) he estimated $3400, or $20 a foot. Next closest estimate was $550. Steam cleaning the grout was $1275 which I thought was competitive. Overall, considering the time estimate was two days, it's about $3500 per day. Since I'm not having any of the work done by him, I can't speak to the quality. I've noticed that many trades just throw out a price, seemingly "at random". But beware, and request a breakdown. Then calculate the per day cost. If you're not comfortable with that, get more quot
