GO GO GO GO GO and experience B Bryan Preserve. I just finished my MBA and treated myself to a week in Mendocino. I can't rave enough about this part of California. I saved the preserve for the second to last day up north. Cathy Sue was AMAZING. She answered all of our questions and I really felt the love that she has for all the animals. My friend and I were the only ones on the tour. We got to pet a Zebra and fee a Giraffe. Experiencing these beautiful animals in a safe and loving environment is so special. This is a labor of love by all involved. I can't stop raving about my experience to everyone in Los Angeles. Even thinking about another trip to one of the cottages next time. read more

We stayed at the Bridge Cottage for two nights and took the tour twice. The cottage is beautifully and meticulously decorated. It is filled with antiques and gorgeous pictures of the animals. The jacuzzi tub is decadent and overlooks a pond. It was the perfect way to end the day. You get to see the zebras, antelopes and giraffes in their natural state. The tour allows you to touch a Grevys Zebra and feed giraffes. It was an incredibly unique experience. I would like to return :) read more

We both took the tour and stayed at one of the cottages. I'm reluctant to express disappointment about the tour, because I'm supportive of the work B Byran is doing, but hopefully this feedback will be taken as constructive criticism. Our tour guide seemed very much like he'd rather have been doing something else. Moreover, he was dismissive of questions. Isn't the point of the tour to foster interest in these animals and their fate? The highlights of the tour came at the start and at the end, when we were able to meet a young zebra and the five resident giraffes up close. The middle of the tour consisted of driving a couple of hundred yards between some large pastures, where we could see the herds of antelope and zebras. The cottage we stayed in, Chapel Cottage, was constructed and decorated with care. It was very comfortable for our party of 3 and we appreciated the hot tub and the ability to cook in the small kitchen. The drawback to the cottages, especially for children, is that the cottages are bounded a pond and by the preserve, where guests aren't allowed to walk. This leaves kids without much outdoor space to explore. Also, it would have been nice to see some of the animals from the cottages, but they're constructed without any views over the pastures. Last, we were a little surprised that no one checked in with us during our stay. We were met with a note, and that was it for contact over the next two days. All that said, if you're looking for comfortable, nicely appointed rooms in quiet location, the cottages are a good bet. read more

This is a rating for the very horrible customer service I received by phone today, June 24th. I called to find out a bit more about the tours. A very grumpy, rude and super unhelpful gentleman picked up the phone with just a "hello". Maybe my expectations were too high, since I was expecting something like "E Bryan Preserve, how can I help you" From then on, the call got worse. I tried to find out times available for a tour on Friday, he says "4:00 pm", I ask if there is a morning time, he's says "yes" Unfortunately, I'm not a psychic so I didn't know what that time would be, so I waited till he told me. And I might have been crazy to ask what the tour was like, but all he said was " you ride in a landrover" I honestly couldn't believe the conversation I had. I proceeded to tell him that I lived and traveled in Africa for 9 months, and was just trying to get a feel for what the tour was like. Needless to say, I did NOT book a tour, so I have no idea if its nice or not. The only thing I know is, that I'm sure that viewing the animals in their actual habitat and wild in Africa is much better than this place. I was slightly intrigued by the idea to visit, but there is no possible way that I will . I hope that you get a nicer person to answer the phone, because I can't imagine anyone wanting to book a tour through the rude, mean man I spoke with today. read more

What a joy! I would recommend the B Bryan Preserve to anyone who loves animals. The access to zebra, kudu, antelope and giraffe was incredible, and the tour guides were outstanding, too. Having recently returned from safari in Kenya, I was afraid that the preserve might be touristy or commercialized but I was more than pleasantly surprised. We rented the Chapel cottage for two nights which placed us proximal to the giraffe enclosure. I was surprised every time I exited the cottage and found myself so close to those magnificent creatures. Not only are Judy and Frank gracious hosts but it is obvious that they love the animals and care for them lovingly. None of the neurotic rocking back and forth that you see at zoos. The animals seem content and have more than adequate space in which to roam. You can get up close and personal with them and are left with the feeling that you have had a once in a lifetime experience. We plan to return - not because we think we missed seeing anything but because we want to see and experience it all again. read more

We had a wonderful time staying in the Bridge Cottage last week. The cottage itself was lovely, and very comfortable--there was a booklet with information about the origins of most of the lumber, windows, and fixtures, which were mostly antiques reclaimed from other places. There was a small, but fully-functional kitchen (with all the dishes and silverware we needed), a bathroom with a shower, a bedroom downstairs with two twin beds, another room with a queen bed upstairs, and a living room with satellite TV and a BluRay player (also free WiFi). The private hot tub by the pond outside was fantastic! Our kids fell in love with the extremely friendly cat (with many extra toes), who met us at the door. It's such a peaceful place--lots of frogs singing outside, and the occasional zebra noise (that was a little disconcerting at first, but cool!) In the morning, we went on the tour, led by a guide, along with the property's owner, Frank. They drove us and a few other families in 1960s Land Rovers to see the different breeds of zebras, antelopes, and giraffes that they breed there. The baby zebras were adorable! The tour ended with a chance to feed yams to the giraffes. I was taken with how dedicated the owner was to the animals and their preservation. All in all, it was a unique and unforgettable experience. Highly recommended. read more

Incredible and amazing. I can't begin to tell you how magical this place is. A hidden gem where you can stay in one of two custom cabins on a small lake. The cabins are all built from reclaimed antique wood and furnishings. We were in the Chapel Cottage and it would sleep 4 comfortably. Private hot tub and fully furnished kitchen. Bring groceries, and you can cook up a meal and eat on the deck lake side. That in itself is incredible. What's more is you're surrounded by rare and endangered African animals. Now including 3 awesome giraffe. Frank and Judy lead a tour in an old Land Rover, safari-style. You get to feed and pet the giraffe. This was a memorable and special experience. You cannot beat the value here. If you love animals, you owe it to yourself to check this out. read more

This was a fantastic find!!! Judy was great as our tour guide. I was doing a google search looking for hidden gems along the coast and this came up and I am glad it did. Being a photographer I am always looking for cool things to photograph. This place did not disappoint and the prices were great as well. This is a fun experience overall if you have never been here. We enjoyed it, and the animals they rescue and care for were really cool to see. They do good work in that sense. The animals ARE very well cared for and you can tell the people really want what's best for their welfare which is awesome. A lot of exotic horned deer type species. Zebras, and the big draw is the Giraffes. I had just got a new 35MM digital camera and was probably OVER excited to have a real wildlife photo shoot. I found out this is not the best preserve for photography. The man who gave us the tour was kind of an older grumpy guy who obviously loved the animals and wasn't maybe nuts about the tourists that paid him to see the place. I asked him to stop at one point as he was driving through the property to take a photo. "OH" he said, " I didn't know we had Ansell Adams onboard! ". Jick! you see me with my camera trying to grab a shot for days as you race along the most rutted, bumpy "road" in the world. ha haThe old safari jeeps were very neat but super hard on your rear end. The giraffes were amazing and meeting them is very surreal. you go upstairs onto a balcony and the Giraffes are at EYE level with you which is crazy. the barn is GNARLY strong smelling due to the 5 males that hang out in there .Even though they clean it often. the Ammonia smell will definitely clear out your sinuses... forever. haha. My husband and I really enjoyed our trip to the B Bryan Preserve. The tour guides and caretakers are knowledgeable and truly care about these animals. You see various species of antelope and zebra, and learn to identify some of the differences between their look and their behaviors. The highlight of the tour is meeting and getting to feed a giraffe. I recommend going on the morning tour and getting coffee and treats at Franny's either before or after! It takes about an hour and half, and is absolutely a great way to start a relaxing day in the Point Arena area. read more

My husband and I spent my birthday touring this amazing preserve. Our tour guide was wonderful. She provided us with a ton of information about the different animals and answered any questions that we had. We were able to get pretty close to the animals to get great pictures, but at a distance that ensured that both the animals and the group would stay safe. At the end, we got to feed the giraffe and even got a giraffe kiss! It was very obvious that everyone that works at the preserve loves the animals. The animals are very well taken care of with plenty of room to move around. They have a small gift shop, so you can buy a t-shirt, figurine, or even a piece of artwork created by one of the giraffe to remember your trip. We did not stay at the preserve, but you are able to stay overnight in a cottage. The family that was staying there seemed to love it. My husband and I are interested in going back and staying overnight. Overall, we had a wonderful time and highly recommend the tour! read more

We really enjoyed our visit to this very cool place! Who would have thought you could see African wildlife in Point Arena CA?? The grounds are GREAT - going on the feeding tour is educational, fun, interesting, and just overall a wonderful experience. My husband and I stayed in the 2 bedroom fully furnished apartment. You can enjoy FRESH from the hen eggs, FRESH from the garden veggies but also have wireless connection while watching movies from the video collection. I highly recommend this experience for the whole family!! read more

This past weekend was me and my boyfriends first anniversary, so i wanted to do something specail and fun and stay on budget.. When arriving at the B Bryan Perserve, at first i was confsed i did not realize it was also someone house-no big deal just would have been nice to know, i felt like i was tresspassing.. Anyways once we found out we were at the right place, we had shown up a little early so judy (the owner) told us to walk around the grounds and check things out until the rest of the group gets here. Beautiful gardens!! I did think there was going to be more variety of animals, but i was NOT DISSAPOINTED. First we walked up to the Zebras to watch them eat, we got so close to them it was un real. Then we got in the range rover and went around their 110 acres. Amazing animals, Judy is very knowledable, nice and funny to boot! I cant wait for her to get the girraffes, we will definitly be back! This was the perfect way to end our day on sunday! (and for such great price!! $20 a person!) Definitly worth a visit :) read more

We stayed Friday and Saturday night and did a Saturday morning tour with our family of 3 plus grandma. Chapel House is adorable -- they've recovered the wooden floors and doors and other items (light fixtures, the pull string toilet, stained glass windows, etc.) from old buildings. It has a ton of character and is quite comfortable. The housekeeper (who also drove our jeep during our tour) left a beautiful bouquet of flowers she'd collected from the grounds. We enjoyed the hot tub on the patio one evening, but mostly played board games by the fireplace indoors at night. We had a lovely relaxing stay and very much enjoyed the tour. We'll be back! read more

The owners love their animals a lot and share their knowledge and love in safari tours with very limited number of guests. 1972 land crusers are fun. Feeding 5 young giraffes is something you'd love to experience. $35 for a ticket is just a small price for the pleasure. read more

Seriously, amazing. We stumbled upon this place through AirBnB (but ended up booking directly with the Preserve) and can't say enough how wonderful our experience was. We stayed in the beautiful Chapel cottage for 2 nights. We drove up at night from SF and reached pretty late at night, but the check-in process is very streamlined and clear. The drive on route 1 is also absolutely stunning (of course), which makes the whole experience getting there and back even more fun. The Chapel Cottage was very clean, quaint, decorated with animal artwork and photography everywhere, with a private hot tub overlooking a pond on one side and the giraffe barn on the other! That's right - from the hot tub, the windows of the cottage, and the entrance, you could see the giraffes walking around and feeding less than 50 feet away. The zebra are right next door, and some of them even wander around the property outside of their areas! Truly, staying here makes you feel at one with the animals - it is not a commercialized experience at all. It's so clear that everyone who is a part of this place truly loves the animals - they are so well taken care of, and everyone there truly loves to share the experience with guests and children. We did a tour and a painting experience with the giraffes and wanted to keep coming back for more. They are such gentle, beautiful creatures and you really feel a connection with them by the end of your stay. Can't recommend B Bryan Preserve enough. Thank you so much for an absolutely wonderful weekend and we will definitely be back again soon!!! read more

A fantastic experience for adults as well as kids. I went with my wife, and we really enjoyed learning more about the animals, seeing their behaviors in person, and of course, feeding the giraffes. This place is magical! Highlight of my life visting the B. Bryan preserve! My boyfriend and I found this place in a local magazine at the bed and breakfast we were staying at, I'm obsessed with giraffes so of course we went. It was pretty cold so we and in mid December so we were the only tour booked that day which was awesome because it was like our own little private tour! Our second visit to the Preserve and we learned so much more about the animals there. Our guide, Zane, was knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. He answered all questions fully and in language everyone understood. The animals cooperated by being in good position for photo ops. You must take the tour and be kissed by a giraffe! read more

We've been coming here for years and always learn something new on our visits. Judy and Frank are amazing and do a great job caring for these incredible animals. We've stayed on the property in their cabins and highly recommend that to anyone wanting to try something new. I stayed in the Chapel Cottage for a solo retreat (with my dog) and had a hard time saying goodbye to the serenity of the hot tub, the pond, the zebras, and a place to cook, dance, read, and write. Thank you for preserving such a beautiful space for the benefit of ungulates and friends of ungulates! I especially loved the way the cottage was decorated to make me feel at home. My girlfriend and I went on the B Bryan Preserve tour this past weekend while visiting Point Arena. We both loved it! The preserve is on a beautiful 100 acre ranch with 70 African animals, 3 types of antelopes and 3 types of zebras. Later this year they hope to add a giraffe. Judy, one of the owners, gave us a great tour that started in the barn with an informational session. Then, she took us around the property as she fed the animals. We were able to get very close to these beautiful, majestic animals. The tour lasted about an hour and a half and costs $20/ person. Worth every penny. read more

I went to B Bryan animal preserve for the second time April 2nd, it was just as amazing as the first visit. The first time I went I thought this was a one time visit but going again made me realize how much I love the experience and the chance to see the animals change! Last year there was a baby zebra, this weekend I got to meet her fully grown. :-) and I got to see a baby zebra who was one day old! How awesome. My 11 year old enjoyed the experience so much. Feeding the giraffes was the highlight of course but she learned so much about the zebras and Antelope that she was ecstatic. I can't wait for my next visit! read more

The tour was great, full of interesting info about the animals. The guide was new but was well informed. Most of the animals came right up to the fence to see who was visiting. The most fun part of the tour ended with a visit with the giraffes. They were so sweet and fun to feed. I did not know they were the Most endangered of African animals with hoofs. I adore them.
