I like this gym! Great midtown location and It has the power rack for free weight barbell exercises…read morewhich are useful to me. There are other useful machines I find useful like the hip thrust machine- which not all gyms. It seems that they continually work to improve the gym set up. They sometimes change the location of equipment, probably for optimal flow and they get new equipment. For instance , they got the pendulum squat machine recently which I don't know how to use yet, but if I ask Matt (the owner) questions about any equipment, he explains it to me. I appreciate that. Also, Matt was nice to spend time with me talking about nutrition after a body composition scan. You can get that measured there, which can help you monitor your progress, if you have specific goals. Another plus is that he also communicates with other clients via text and replies rather quickly so that is nice to have the communication line open :) They do sales sporadically which can be good for you to get in the door. For example, for Halloween this year they waived the sign-up fee. Also, for Christmas, if you bring in a toy, you can have a free workout. I like how they give back in that way :) They do little cute things like decorate for the place for holidays- love that spirit- and you can get an orange if you come on the weekend :) I see Matt frequently cleaning the equipment and vacuuming which is a good thing. Everyone likes a clean environment to work out! He seems very dedicated to his work, and I admire that about him. Checking in is easy after you download an app called kisi and you use that app on your phone to check in. There is also a fob option if you don't have a smart phone. Just a thing for me is that sometimes it is a bit warm in the gym. Before the winter hit, it is regularly kept at 73 degrees. They also have the heat going in the winter. Also just be aware to cancel, they require a 30 days notice and you must go in person (not online or phone) to cancel. I would not cancel if I am not shifting locations, because I think this gym is great! They have group classes too which is an extra cost. I have not done them myself, but the lady who leads it on Saturday mornings is real pleasant! They seem to have a good little community there for these classes. If I move back the area, I would get a membership again.

The space is always clean, and they have exactly the equipment you need for a good workout and no extra nonsense. The prices have raised from slightly when I started going there in 2020, but I believe that the increase is justified. I would much rather pay extra to go somewhere that is never crowded where I feel comfortable, rather than having to sign a year-long contact with "dues" where I have to wait 20 minutes just to use the squat rack. In fact, I drive 10 minutes out of the way, past two huge commercial gyms that are a 1-minute walk away from me because I prefer this gym so much more. I've come here probably over 200 times in the past couple of years, and there are never more than a couple of people in the gym. It is always clean, and the owners have always been polite with me. The only issue I ever had was that they did not have a dedicated bench press in 2020. Lo and behold, a few months after going there, I walked in, and they had purchased one and had it set up. Amazing. After that, the only other minor grip for me was there was no long rope cable for rope tricep pushdowns. Again, I walk in one day and they had a brand new one. Point being is they are always refurbishing older equipment and bringing in new things that suit the gym. The negative reviews for this gym are a little confusing to me, since they do not seem accurate. Never in the 200+ times I have been here did I feel the space to be "dirty" in any way. Every time I am in Tally, I come here. I am always happy with my choice.

I had been essentially bed-ridden for 18 months, primarily with serious nerve damage from a fall down a long flight of steps. After many surgeries, my pain management team gave me a choice of 10 physical therapists. I stayed with my first choice for 6 months. Although highly rated, they did it "by the book" without regard to my personal situation. And it was not a private session: A physical therapist would get me started on an exercise and then get the next person started. What's more, even with medical insurance, my out-of-pocket costs were very high. Over time, I visited every place on the surgeon's list, tried some, and was eventually referred to Fit and Functional by a family member who is excellent at medical research. She recognized that Sherman and his staff had the exceptional training I needed. My situation could not be handled with a cookie-cutter approach. I have been with Fit and Functional for 10 months. First, they worked on my balance issues so I would stop falling even on a level surface. They have steadily helped me regain strength and stamina. I go twice a week and work with a private physical therapist who is terrific. I could not ask for anyone better - this includes Sherman and anyone else I've worked with. They understand MY body and what I need to do. Sherman diagnosed my lymph node problems before the medical doctors did and he adjusted my sessions accordingly. I am steadily improving and look forward to my sessions there, which, by the way, cost less than the recommended physical therapists.

He is a certified trainer and focused on a holistic approach to health. The gym itself is great. It's appointment only so you never have to wait for a piece of equipment. In addition, there are a lot of exercises you can do here that you can't in a regular gym. Fun things such as pounding a sledge hammer on a 350 lb tire. As well as rolling the same heavy tire across the gym. If you have the chance to work out with Andrew and follow his advice (He is always available by text) you will see results.

It was life changing to say the least. I have learned so much! When I started, I felt very intimidated by the gym, I was scared to hurt myself and felt lost when I felt motivated enought to get myself into the gym. SST changed that for me completely! I have been away for about a month now and I just did an "in body" analysis and have continued to hit my goals by following what I have learned. I have gone back and checked in with my wonderful trainer by adding a-la-carte sessions and I am thankful for them. One of my LIFE/FITNESS goals was to do a pull up. Only with STT's help was I finally able to do one. I will never forget this personal achievement. I cannot wait to get back in with the team of amazing and professional trainers in the future.

No frills, no nonsense, no air conditioning, no cold water, no excuses gym. No problem. I called first. The owner answered with hello. Not Top Dog, nothing but hello. Cool...is this Top Dog? He says yes. No big deal. I ask about the class that afternoon. Explaining that I'm in town temporarily and typically go to Orange Theory, does their class compare? He says there are many similarities, though no treads and I can work at my own level. First visit is free, so I take the chance. Parking is bad. It is a pot hole laden lot behind the building. They have a large storefront that looks like it is closed. So go to the back and up the steps. Obese in, I find the guy in charge. Told him I was here for the class. He said I'd likely be the only one there so he would explain the work out. Great. The workout is written in chalk on the walls. Very cool. He runs through the workout with me and then, I'm on my own. Now, understand I walked in and knew I wasn't in a jazzercize class. I did not expect them to hold my hand. That being said, the guy that was in charge, did keep one eye on me. Occasionally checked on my progress. He corrected my form on a few exercises and was available when I needed him. I deducted a star for not ending the 'class' with a guided stretch and deducted a star for the advertising a class that really isn't a class. It's more of a workout guide that was really challenging but doable. When I think of a class though, I think of a bit more attention and someone motivating you throughout. Being I was the only one there, I understand why he continued to do his own workout...but, not a class. BUT...as I said in the beginning. This college town gym isn't looking for soccer moms that are looking to tone up. If I was a college guy or gal looking for a place that would challenge me, this is perfect. AND, I would go back! I was incredibly sore. I did some of my own stretching, but not enough. The workout was AWESOME. It just isn't a class.
