I am very fastidious about my hair. It's very fine and difficult to cut neatly and evenly. When I find a goof barber, I tend to be loyal and tip well if I like their work. I used to go to Johnny's (next door to B Gate), but he really did a very poor job not once, but twice in successive visits. That ended my relationship with Johnny's. I stopped into B Gate because I have historically had good luck with Korean barbers. The owner of B Gate did not disappoint! She takes her time and does great work. She's very friendly and she has nice sense of humor. Prices are comparable to others in the area. When she's done, she uses a hot towel to clean your neck while she massages your neck. Today was my first time going to B Gate Barbershop. My impression is they can cut hair, my cut doesn't look bad, but the thing is: the barber did not cut it the way I requested. I asked for about 1/8" off the sides/back, about 3/4 to 1" off the top, and to taper the cut. She cut way more off the top, way more off the sides. Again, it doesn't look terrible, but it wasn't the way I requested. They charge $18 for a cut. Not a bad price, a couple of dollars cheaper than where I usually go. I would go there again, and try a different barber, in hopes that it was just the one barber not listening. The shop was nice, clean, and empty at 12:30pm on a Tuesday. read more

A low skin fade apparently means a high skin fade with no fade. Do not go here if you're looking for a quality barber.

They do an alright to good medium-high fade. But that's the only haircut you get, no matter what you actually wanted. $16 for military cut.

I've been going here for a couple years now and love this place. The price, location, and service has always been great. I always get Joy to cut my hair. There's always enough barbers around and there's even some free water while you're waiting for a cut. I get a medium skin fade and Joy has always been consistent and noticed that if she misses something that she'd always go back and correct it. I love how they use a straight razor and will continue to go here. Highly recommend this place but now with COVID-19, not sure if this place will remain open. That means I'll have to cut my own hair or risk getting my wife to do it. :O read more

Only go to this barbershop if you don't care about your hair. Despite what requesting, the lady will cut your hair however she wants, not what you ask. I asked for a trim and no length off, instead I walked out with a high buzz cut and no blending on the sides at all. Bad haircuts happen, but when they don't even listen to what you ask for and decide to do their own thing, that is even worse. Would not recommend this place at all. read more

10/20/2019:::: so i been living in the odenton area all my life, i just got back into town and my barber was closed today, so i decided to go to dis shop. and it was the worst idea i made in my life. i asked for a shape up...... i got a seesaw shape up... i asked for my side burns to be long and thin i got one side up by my ear and thick i got the other side long thick and curved at my ear... smgdh, i told them i wasn't about to pay for the service, they started talking amongst themselves in there language, i asked them to speak english and i left. i will nevereverevereverever go there again horrible read more

Majority of the barbers do not know what they're doing. They can't even blend hair properly.

So this was my first time I went there. I looked up the reviews and thought it might be a good spot. Don't get me wrong, it is a decent spot, the ladies are nice but my haircut was not the best. It was decent and the fade was just not there. I guess for the price, it's ok. But if you are looking for a good haircut place, there are other better spots. My go-to barbershop in the area. I used to go on fort Meade and they did a fine job but not the same level of service. For $12 they will give you a nice cut, shave your neck with a straight razor and finish it up with a hot towel and quick shoulder massage. I finally gave up on the Fort Meade Barber and decided to check out what they had just outside the gate... I wish I would have checked this out sooner. Through my military career I'm used to stopping in for a haircut, just sit down and get it over with because I had to... end of story. But I actually enjoyed this haircut and look forward to coming back. First off, my barber was very personable, like she actually cared that there was a person sitting under the head of hair she was cutting. Then after the haircut, which she did a good job, she used a hot towel on my head and neck, then massaged my neck and shoulders. I was surprised when I went to go pay that it was only $10. I have been going here since late 2018. It is either a hit or miss with the hair cut. Sometimes it's amazing other times you are sitting there for about an hour and a half while the guy uses the same length trimmer over and over again for like 45 mins. read more

It is so hard to find a good barber when you get to a new location. If you are in the military and want a great military cut, GO HERE! They know what they are doing and they do it right. They give excellent haircuts, have reasonable prices, and will finish with a back-of-the-neck shave with hot shaving cream and a straight razor, followed by a hot wet towel for clean up, and a brief massage. All said, one of, if not the best barber shops I've been to. One word of caution: I think they are used to serving the military community, and will tend to assume you're military (I'm not) when you come in, and may cut rather accordingly, unless you emphasize to take it easy. I got my hair cut here the first two months I was stationed here and it was great. Never had a problem. However, as of recently they've had a staff turnover. A lot of barbers and stylists I didn't recognize. I trusted them anyway. Bad move. I usually give barbers a two strike system. If I get a bad cut once, I will give them another shot next time. Two times, and I'll start going somewhere else. I usually go with a low skin fade and they bombed it twice and ended up trying to fix it at home. My haircut was fine. I don't require a lot to be happy, just a trim every few months. They met this requirement easily. I was somewhat excited about the idea of a towel treatment and gentle massage afterwards. "Gentle" is definitely not the way I would describe it. The lady who took care of me started to rub my shoulders, which was a little harder than I would prefer but I figured it would be over in a minute or two. Seconds later, she was beating my back like she was working a punching bag. It caused me to tense up, making the "relaxing" massage totally pointless. I was definitely more tense after the massage than before. Maybe if I decide to come back I'll ask to skip the massage portion. read more

I recently moved to Odenton and have tried 3 other barbers before landing at B Gate- the issue with the other 3 was that they couldn't do a high fade; I left with lines that weren't blended or that were not even. B Gate is open early and I got in with no wait. They gave me a haircut that rivaled my old barber in Connecticut. My Lines were blended and straight. By far the best haircut I have had in Maryland and i will be going back. read more

UPDATE: The owner contacted me and made everything right. You cannot ask for better customer service than when a compliant is handled in such a way you begin doing business together again. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! I had a few friends go on and on about this place being better than the PX so I decided to try it out. I went in with a very normal spiked gelled front and asked for the same haircut I have received since the third grade (skin to 1 1/2, high fade, trim the bangs so I can spike them up). Out of all the barber shops I have been and said that, this is the first that gave me a horrible experience. I went to the lady working at the second chair from the right (next to the bosses chair) and she began cutting as normal except when she took the clipper straight down the middle like she was trying to land a 747. I jumped to feel what I hoped had not just happened and I felt the baldness of my scalp. Now I look like I didn't in basic training! All she said was "oh...sorry". Then she had the audacity to charge me for the haircut! It wasn't until the boss lady came out and they gave me cash back for my credit charge. I have dealt with some uneven lines, stragely hairs, and even the very rare "im not comfortable cutting hair that short", but never the let me ask you what you want, repeat it back to you then ignore you and give a short "oh sorry" when I make you look ridiculous. I will never go back and I could not in good faith recommend this place to anyone. Until my hair grows back out I will be the walking soapbox encouraging people to never go there, once it's back to normal I will end my angry pursuit. read more
