My son and I took a trip to the Museum of Neon Art and signed up for the tour. Highlight of my Summer!!! So I joined the neon signs tour around DTLA provided by the Museum of Neon Arts. I wasn't expecting much from I it but I was very much surprised to see this part of Los Angeles in a different way, but in a good way. I came in the United States as a tourist on multiple occasions before deciding to migrate. As a tourist, I never saw a need to take these tourist buses. I thought I can tour LA on my own. However, I realized the big difference between a DIY tour versus a tour provided by a professional guides. Erik from MONA was our tour guide. This guy was very knowledgeable and entertained us all throughout the evening as we go around to see the neon signs. He's very informative and best of all, funny AF! The attendees were all bursting in laughter during the entire tour. We really had a good time and I hope you will consider joining this tour. Please checkout MONA's website for tour schedule.

When we made reservations for a certain date, Mr LA surprisingly didn't even take down a name. When we arrived at the appointed place and time, Mr LA wasn't there. We called him and he said he'd be there within 15 minutes. Well, he approximately arrived after that time. We took Mr. LA's Culver City Food tour. For a food tour, I'd expect at least three tastings, hopefully more, but we got only one. We walked by many restaurants and he had something to say about several, but we never went in for a little snack. I got hungrier and hungrier hearing about the diversity, food and otherwise, in Culver City. Near the end of the tour, he finally took us into one place and bought so much of one thing that we couldn't even finish. He could have easily made us much happier by getting only one serving to share at this and two other places, maybe not even with the added chai tea. He wouldn't have spent any more money, but would have made us much happier. Other than the food, he started with some interesting facts, but towards the end, his knowledge kind of fizzled out. At one point, he told us one thing, but the sign next to the place said something different. I assume that whenever he mentioned years or dates, they were only approximate. He was a nice guy and I still learned a bit about Culver City, so I wasn't too disappointed, but I wouldn't take another one of his tours. Especially not for regular price; we had a Groupon. I should also mention that the tour only lasted about two hours, when it was advertised as a three hour tour.

Isn't it sad that I can name thirty white writers and artists before I can even name one who looks like me? (And I'm sure these Asian figures have existed throughout our rich histories and cultures!) As minority kids and adults (especially those growing up outside of diverse urban areas), we often lack knowledge about ourselves, our families, and our ancestry. However, Pilipino Workers Center (PWC) supplements what was never given to most of us: a sense of pride in ourselves, our sisters and our brothers. Although he's a loved figure, there's actually more pride to being Pinoy and Pinay than Manny Pacquiao. And our tour guide (Tori) was able to connect FilAm history from the days of colonization to the struggles the community fights to relieve today! In addition to her storytelling of past Filipino movers and shakers, our tour guide took us around in the Jeepney to monuments in the neighborhood. If you're a foodie looking to try your hand in Filipino cooking or simply need a snack (or meal), there are stops for that as well. All with a modern soundtrack. I highly recommend this tour for those who want to experience the neighborhood in person, check out the Filipino eats, and who want to reclaim their histories. It seriously is a 3-for-1 deal (Tori also gives bomb recommendations in nearby K-Town. So probably a 4-for-1 deal.) I love what and who PWC represents and it gives me hope for the future of our Asian American communities. Right after the tour, I was texting my nephews and nieces to check it out, too! The two stars go to Big Mike holding down this bizness. The cons: The night before Purchased dual package tour: La Hood Life and Hollywood tour for $125 a person. A Text message sent at 2am said to meet up at 930am, which we didn't see until parking in the garage at 930am. We get there at 937am to check in, our tour gets verified with the owner (bald slick brother in a all white T parked a glossy badass Benz). At 10am the rest of our tour group arrives. They wait on the opposite end of us because our tours are separate. At 1010am we get verified the 3rd time that we have both tours booked, then offered a seat in the open air tour truck. At 1035 we get verified again & told to get off the open air tour truck and get a seat on the white van with everyone else, that our Hollywood tour would be after we get back from the Hood tour, Mind you the tour I booked was described as 3.5 hrs, quick & to the point. Instead We end up on a nearly 4 hours long tour of the hood. We got back to the pickup location at 230pm. 5 hrs in total wasted mostly by waiting around, watching a verbal argument btwn Mooney, the owner & Big Mike but he seemed to stay out of it. The complaining and arguing and cussing was authentic, cuz Mooney's frustration was real & felt. Yet I think his hissy fit led to all the chaos & waiting around we had to do. We're out $80 because that how much more we paid than everyone else on our tour. I left feeling "Debow-ed" with my tourist chain getting yanked off! Not to mention, the Van sound system went out by blasting uncontrollable screeching noise every time the Van was started back up. This screeching assault to our hearing happened about 9 times. Painful!!! Plus we were stuck in the heat with no AC. Haha it was so ridiculously awful, that looking back I can only laugh. Luckily we broke down close to a small store & bought cold drinks & snacks while the wiring was figured out to the sound system. The rest of the tour the microphone didn't work so the people in the back couldn't hear Big Mike's awesome story telling, and their nonstop complaining behind me was distracting AF. Lastly what we were overcharged $80, should be given to Big Mike and lil sum for Mooney cuz Mooney was mad as hell and I could tell by his high level cussing he can tell a story too.
