Came across this rescue on social media and wanted to volunteer. I got in contact with the right…read moreperson and began to strategize on a schedule and I was communicative with appropriate time too but conflicts began to occur. I had a scheduled volunteer day and time and woke up on time to go and i texted POC to confirm and they told me that the other volunteer wouldn't be in (if i didnt confirm with a text i probably would have shown up without notice) and i reached out to schedule another day and received no word. I would say i am fairly patient and understanding person with rescues because they are so busy but i would recommend for this rescue to have a dedicated staff member to help volunteers and have a calendar put together and just be better organized. I unfortunately wont be volunteering here anymore. They are doing good work but im bummed because i did want to volunteer here but as a person that values organization it just didnt fit.

People who complain that they are not easy to deal with are folks who do not understand the adoption process is as important and should be as strict as when adopting a human baby. The DeGeneres case was blown out of proportion, Ellen did not follow the rules and transferred the pet to another person, just like a piece of property, and clearly in breach of contract. Animals are not a piece of property, they are living beings who deserve the utmost consideration and protection. Mutts and Moms does that. IF you want to adopt and think they are hard to deal with, be glad. They are doing their job. I only wish all rescues were as thorough as Mutts and Moms. The adoption process is thorough enough, but not super lengthy like a lot of other rescues. There is no home inspection, but they do ask a series of questions, and as long as they all meet the qualifications of a suitable pet owner, then an appointment is set for a visit at the facility, and if you're ready right then and there, you just need to fill out a few things, pay, and head home with your new pet! Arrived to the shelter at around 4:30, an elderly woman near the front desk was very kind and…read moreanswered my questions about a stray cat in my neighborhood. She sent me to the back-most desk (I believe it's labeled Receiving) to ask for more information. There, I spoke to a young man there who suggested I bring the cat in. He let me know she'd be spayed and released. I spoke to the elderly woman at the front again to ask if there were any options to get this cat spayed and put up for adoption. She acknowledged it was a good question, and advised me to go back to the Receiving desk, have a conversation with them, and see if there were any options. I went back to receiving as the elder suggested, but unfortunately I was met by a rude middle aged women who certainly did not want to have a conversation. She asked if I had a question, I said yes and reiterated the situation with the cat. She then condescendingly asked, "Didn't you just speak to another employee?" I confirmed, and just asked if there were other options besides spaying and releasing the cat (as the elder had advised me to do). She was incredibly condescending! She absolutely spoke down to me, as if I did not understand that cats *can* be free roaming. That's common knowledge - but in this neighborhood we have tons of coyotes. I've see so many stray cats go missing overnight only to find furry coyote poop along the street soon after. Disgusting behavior from a person working where literal animal's lives at stake. These employees, particularly this middle aged woman, need to be kinder. No one comes here trying to be a problem, we're here because we care about animals. It was close to 5 pm at this point, so I'm not sure if she was being rude because she wanted to head out for the day - but even that is no excuse. I hope she can recall her grade school lessons from many, many, many years ago and listen more actively, and speak more kindly.

We said okay and continued looking around. After a bit, I went to the front desk to ask if we could meet one of the cats, Clawdina. A white female staff member with a bun told us she'd be right with us. We waited for quite a while and no one came, so we went back to the cat room and waited some more. At one point, my son and I were standing nearby while she was speaking with another guest. We didn't want to interrupt or seem rude, so we continued waiting, but we were never acknowledged again. Eventually, we just left. It was honestly really disappointing because this was our first time visiting and we were genuinely excited to meet Clawdina and potentially adopt her. We know black cats can have a harder time getting adopted, which made the experience even sadder for us. I completely understand being busy, especially working in customer service myself, but being ignored for that long without any communication felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. A simple acknowledgment or update would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, because of this experience, we don't plan on coming back.
