They will always accommodate you, the teachers are trained very diligently over a long period of time & can help you make adjustments according to your own needs. Tricia S. and I recently found a steal of a deal on Living Social and decided to go for it. 5 - 90min sessions for $20!!! Can't beat that with a stick. Plus, its not one of those deals where you had to use all your sessions in consecutive days or had a really short time frame to use them. We had 60 days from the start of our first session to complete all our classes. So we stroll in one Saturday morning and find that this place is quite small and non-assuming. I had probably passed this place at least a dozen times and never even noticed that it was there! You don't have to come with anything as they provide all of the equipment for you. I really wasn't sure what to expect of the Iyengar method as I had never heard of it, and I was definitely in for a treat. Iyengar focuses more on learning HOW to do the poses and making sure that your body is in the correct alignment. It was more of a yoga how-to than the intense yoga workouts I have experience before. I actually really enjoyed this though because it made me realize how incorrectly I have been doing poses in the past. Our instructor Randy was pretty hilarious and would totally call you out if you were doing something wrong, or not really pushing your body as far as he thought you could. This was all done in a friendly and non-threatening manner though so it didn't really bother me. He would also have you come up close and have him demonstrate certain poses before requiring you to try them out. This really helped a bunch!!! I left feeling more limber than I ever had before. I also appreciated the fact that my body actually felt great the next day... unlike previous yoga experiences where I felt like I had been run over by a bus!!! read more

After two classes I'm still not EXACTLY sure what Iyengar yoga is, but this studio offers a really great introductory class. It's not "easy yoga"...it's really showing you the whys and hows of each basic pose. It's amazing how much the instructor (Randy is the one who teaches the Saturday morning class) can tell you about each pose, what you should be thinking, what your muscles should be doing, how to achieve the right posture, etc. It's really a wealth of information. I was even doing a headstand (well, almost) by my second class!! It's not the best class for getting in a workout, because it's a lot of trying a pose, then watching, listening, and learning, and then trying again. I'm not sure what the pricing is like once my Living Social coupon runs out but I would definitely encourage anyone to check out this yoga studio, for beginners and otherwise. The most amazing yoga center I have encountered. Previously I had not done a lot of yoga and I have tried different kinds. This is the most relaxing, well thought out and thorough kind of yoga. The stretching and slow, careful, detailed instruction has kept me from hurting myself and giving me many tools for doing a practice at home. The teachers are so well studied, many of them studying with Master Iyengar in India. There are also constant workshops with amazing teachers from around the globe. If you want to learn yoga, and I mean REALLY learn yoga, then this is the studio for you. This isn't about jumping around to music and getting your sweat on. This is about focusing on your alignment and body awareness. I've done A LOT of yoga in my life (I'm a 500 hour certified yoga teacher), and I still learn a ton when I go to even the Intro Level classes. Physically I've become more open and flexible since starting my yoga practice here, and mentally I'm able to manage stress better. My curved spine is straighter and I have less aches and pains in my body. You could also call these classes "yoga practice practice" because what you learn here can be brought into your personal home practice or practice at other studios. No matter what, this studio will change your life for the better. And, as other reviewers mentioned, you don't need to bring anything with you (everything is supplied including a mat if you want.) I love this yoga studio. I've been here over a dozen times and the quality of instruction is absolutely outstanding. Come here to learn how to do yoga postures slowly, thoroughly, and correctly. This isn't a vinyasa class- it's quite the opposite actually. Long holds and detailed instructor feedback makes this a special place to practice. These teachers don't let you get away with sloppy form. Welcome to the Iyengar method. I come here for knowledge and to go deeper into my practice by really truly understanding what is happening in the asanas. I feel that we are truly blessed to have such a studio here in Dallas. I'd only done iyengar yoga a handful of times, while my daily practice is a mix of hatha and vinyasa flow. While visiting town, I showed up for a class here. I arrived 15 minutes early since I knew I'd need to register. However, the door was locked and no knocking brought anyone to it. Another student showed up and started knocking on all the windows. The teacher, Tatyana, showed up pretty close to the start of the class, so I did my registration afterward. It took me a while to sink into the iyengar style. Tatyana is brusque, but her straightforward manner is also appreciated for adjustments. In the small class of 5, she was able to tell each of us individually how far she thought we could go, making modifications for some. This style of yoga utilizes lots of props, including ropes at the wall, which can be disconcerting for yogis of other practices, so just jump in and follow directions! A strong practice physically can help you adjust to the unfamiliar emotions and movements of this type of yoga. Don't get frustrated if it's different than what you're used to! Tatyana is a good teacher and I'm definitely very sore a few days later, despite not really breaking a sweat! The 90 minute structure is also appreciated, as this really gives time to work toward a final move (we were working on hanumanasana). read more

I recently went to a three day yoga workshop at the BKS Iyengar Studio of Dallas. This was my first time to the studio there. It is a clean and well supplied yoga studio having all the props you need for class. They also have mats, blankets and more for sale so you can do your home practice or bring your own mat to class. There are two large classrooms so you are not crowded and have room to move. There are ceiling fans to keep the air moving which is nice also. Randy Just has come to San Angelo several times to give workshops. I have learned so much from him and have expanded my yoga skills to another level each time. His teaching methods are concise and well thought out with one asana logically going to the next so your body is warmed up and ready for the next movement. At the same time he gives you a good push so you improve your practice. In talking to some of the regular students the instructors there take great care in teaching the students the proper method for the asanas rather than doing one after the other as fast as you can to get as many in an hour as possible. So the learning is easy and you can grow steadily in your yoga practice. If I lived in the DFW area this is the yoga studio I would go to. read more

As my teacher puts it you come to the Iyengar system not to "DO" yoga but to "LEARN" yoga. So if you really want to learn yoga come to this studio and you will not be disappointed. The teachers here know not only asana, the pose, but are experts in anatomy and physiology. I believe they have to study for something like 8 years before they are certified which beats the 200 hour certification in other yoga methods. I went for years "doing" yoga not knowing that I was doing many of the poses incorrectly and I was never really improving over all that time -- until I came to the Iyengar method. What I was missing out on was the correction and alignment which is the hallmark of the Iyengar method -- the instructors correct you constantly (in a good way) so you internalize the pose and find yourself constantly improving and learning about yoga and yourself -- it's very challenging and rewarding. My husband and I took a class on Saturday with David, it was fantastic! The studio is serious about Iyengar Yoga, they provide everything you need for the best experience possible. All the staff are certified in Iyengar Yoga, that is a difficult accomplishment, Google it, you will be surprised. We will be making the 35 minute drive to practice here every Saturday and are trying to figure out how to get there once during the week also. Great find! read more

i love the iyengar method--it breaks down the poses and focuses on making sure your body is doing the right thing. it's hard work and really satisfying! but with any kind of class, the teacher is important and i love love LOVE sally! she's thoughtful and a little spacy and class is really fun. i wish they had more intro classes that fit into my schedule, but oh well. i'll take what i can get... read more

Great instruction, intro classes are perfect for beginners who want to get yoga right.

Excellent studio. Have been going 3x/week for a year which has improved my posture, decreased my stress level, and increased my body awareness. This is the opposite of what some people call "power yoga" where you move from pose to pose quickly (and often unsafely). Each pose is demonstrated and explained in detail, then you do the pose, then adjustments are made accordingly. Props are often used, but don't think that means the poses are easy. The teachers won't let you get away with sloppy poses, and doing them properly is quite challenging! So far every teacher I've had is exceptional - Randy (owner), Tatyana, David, Gretchen - and I enjoy all of their different personalities/teaching styles. read more

Ok. I wrote this outstanding iyengar yoga studio a review on yelp years ago but was forced by yelp to withdraw it since in my review I had acknowledged that I had never been there. I explained though that I knew Randy the leader over there since I had practiced for a number of years with him at a former iyengar teacher's studio in Dallas. At the time I posted the review I was not practicing yoga having had a back injury. I have now been taking Randy's classes for going on 2 years and I can tell you this is certainly one of the top, if not the top iyengar yoga studio in Texas and within several surrounding states.
