Tried out a class at Gaia Flow Yoga and was a bit disappointed by the experience. I signed up for Yin Yoga which was said to be a relaxing flow focused on holding movements in place. The instructor ended up playing music pretty loudly and talking for a lot of it (not pose instructions) which made it a bit difficult to create the calming environment. In addition, the front desk seemed a bit apathetic and unwelcoming upon entry. read more

Last week, I purchased a $25 one week deal from Gaia, and I experienced my first in-person sound bath performed by Ayako Mahtani. Before I get into it, a few things: * Folks can book a class through the MINDBODY app. * They don't have the most room, so I would consider not bringing a lot of stuff. * They provide complimentary mats, and they have wipes students can use to clean before and after class. About the sound bath itself, I experienced so many crazy things. My jaw started shaking. I started dreaming that I practiced Muay Thai and needed to start fighting people. I LOVE this studio. I've been neglecting my practice since the lockdown and this is the perfect venue to start again. The instructors are all very welcoming and great at what they do, I love the choice in music for every class, and the space itself is clean, cozy, and welcoming. I look forward to going every time. I live 35 minutes away from Gaia Flow, but do take classes there from time to time. The instructors are EXCELLENT!!! This is what sets this place apart. The actual studio is ok. Nothing special. I tried yoga many, many years ago (the time before I had kids) and it was great. Had been really hesitant about getting back into it but decided to give it a try. I wound up in Kala's class for gentle waves. A little bit slower pace class. Several things I love about Kala's class. She gets to know the people in her class. That certainly helped reduce the intimidation factor I was facing. Second, she emphasizes that we go at our own pace -- i.e., don't compete with those around you. Find your spot and push yourself. Third, she offers a little bit of lesson before each class -- something to think about. I've found those lessons to be spot on each week. I'm slowly becoming a regular in her class. I certainly recognize the weeks when I cannot attend due to travel for work. I'm feeling stronger and more balanced for it. Kudos to Gaia for having such a wonderful instructor. I took what was supposed to be a beginner yoga class and it was tough. The instructor went a little fast between movements for it to be a beginner course. We did take a few breaks in between the movement phases. I really like the peppermint massage after the workout was complete. If you're experienced in yoga I would recommend this class but if you're a newbie like me, find a class somewhere else. read more

Anybody you encounter her, instructor or student is on your side and only wants the best for you and your practice. I'm simply giving this a 1 star review due to the fact that they don't have lockers. Only cubbies. There is absolutely NO way to secure your belongings. I know yogis who have gotten CASH stolen from their purse while class was in session. This is absolutely not ok! When brought up with management, no apology was given. There is not even a sign that says, "management not responsible for stolen/lost items." If there was at least a sign, I would be more understanding. But nope. So unprofessional!! Do not bring anything of decent value into the studio with you! Honestly, I'd even bring your phone with you into the room and place it under your mat. Don't take ANY chances. read more

I have not been looking forward to writing this review. Not that it was a bad yoga studio, in fact I quite enjoyed it, but something specific kinda turned me off to it, which I'll get to in a sec. I had a month of unlimited classes with an online deal and I used it probably a good dozen times during the month. I only tried the two beginner classes, Gentle Flow and Desert, and got to see 3 different instructors' styles (two female instructors and a male instructor). At first, I was in love. The location is super convenient for me--enough so that I can actually come to a 6am class, go home and shower, and still get to work at a reasonable hour--big plus!! I soon realized I liked the Desert practices way more than the Gentle Waves--they seemed more interesting, but that may have been due to the instructor. By the end of the month, I was excited at my improvement and had actually become used getting up early for 6am yoga, which if you know me is a HUGE DEAL (mornings and I have a mutual hate-hate relationship). But at the same time, after going to so many classes it started to feel a little routine, especially the Gentle Waves. Some other yoga studios I have been to change it up more whereas it seems like you do more or less the same thing in each class here. Which is not a total deal breaker, because there are three more advanced classes I didn't get to try, and maybe those are different--they'd keep me busy for awhile at least before I got bored with those. So at this point, we're minus one star for the fact that I started to get a little bored and some of the instructors were way less interesting than others. So on the last day (which actually turned out to be the day my pass expired so I had to pay, that was my miscalculation though), I had definitely been thinking about becoming a member. I already belong to two gyms so I had been looking at ways to cut gym expenses so I could budget in some yoga. So when the instructor asked me if I had thought about joining, I started to excitedly explain that I was hoping to but just had to work with my budget a little... ...but instead I was cut off, and the instructor said "The only reason I ask is because I only get a commission if you put down my name. That's the only reason I ask." REALLY? That's the ONLY reason you ask? Not because you want to see me improve or continue to be a part of the community? It was like a needle popping my good mood balloon, instantly deflating me. I had to struggle to think of some good news to share that morning (which is a neat thing they do by the way, they go around the room so you can share anything good going on in your life, from "hey I'm alive and I'm here" to "I got a promotion", etc.) SOOO, that just left a really bad taste in my mouth and I haven't been back. That and my car got hit one morning while I was at class (park in the garage, not on the street!) I do recommend you give it a shot if you think it will be good for you, I just had to share my experience. read more

I see that I'm a minority in my thoughts here, but feel compelled to still share my thoughts and experience. I purchased a Groupon for Gaia like so many others, after finishing my first one at another yoga studio. Since these offer such a deal, I figured I would bounce around until I found one I loved. After going to 4 different classes at Gaia, all taught my different instructors, I gave up on it and returned to my previous studio. I don't want to dissuade anyone from trying out this studio, for we are all looking for something different in yoga, but for those like me, I want to offer reasons why I wouldn't return: 1. The microphones and speaker system they use seem artificial and commercialized. I felt less like I was in a peaceful, relaxing environment and more like I was in a Costco with someone talking over the loud-speaker. 2. The classes, no matter what level I went to, seemed like all beginners with 2 or 3 more experienced yogis. I by no means care what level of yoga those are me are (as I myself have only been practicing for about 7 months), but each class felt like an intro class. I could barely work up a sweat even when I swayed from the instruction and added intensifications. 3. This may make me sound crazy, but the instructors come off almost TOO HAPPY. Like being stuck in a toddler's TV show happy. Positivity is a great vibe to give off (not only in a yoga class, but in every day life), but too much of it can come off as unnatural and eery. I will say I have friends who love this place - specifically because they claim to want their yoga class to be more relaxing than a typical workout - but personally, I am looking for the combination of an ass-kicking and meditation and found it elsewhere. read more

I was really disappointed with your studio. I'm not sure why it is that everyone who appears to be an experienced Yogi was getting all the help they needed and I was left to figure it out on my own. I was hardly greeted warmly. I literally was the only person the instructor did not aid in stretching or anything. I watched the room to see who she aided and there were only 5 other people in the class. I never write reviews but honestly I was just so disappointed. If i'm new I expect to be instructed on what is going on. She had no idea if this was my first yoga class ever because she never asked. I wanted to bring my husband over if I liked the studio because we are looking for a yoga studio in the area but i'm definitely not now. I got a groupon deal for this place awhile back. It was my first experience taking actual yoga classes, so I don't have much to compare it to. The yoga classes were great though. They offer classes ranging from beginner to advance, and their schedule is online for you to see. It's a walk-in basis, so no need to sign up for classes before you go. I would recommend getting there at least 15 minutes early so you can get a decent spot in the yoga room and have time to get adjusted to the hot yoga temperatures. Also, be sure to bring a water bottle for dehydration, because you will be sweating a lot! The instructors are very friendly and helpful. Their instructions are easy to follow, and I've learned a lot about proper form on many poses. I used to just do the P90X yoga video, but realized I was doing a lot of poses completely wrong (so that's why it's better to attend actual classes). There seems to be a general routine that is followed for each class, but different instructors will vary up the poses a bit. They also offer different classes for each level, which each have a different focus (for example there are 3 different beginner classes - Ocean, Dessert, and Gentle Waves). If your schedule permits, you should try mixing up your classes throughout the week. At the end of the classes, the instructor will walk around with some peppermint oil to rub around your neck. It smells so good, and leaves me feeling refreshed as I walk out the door. read more

Any Yogi has different reasons and needs for their own yoga practice. It is hard to find a yoga studio that will fit everyone's needs. I have been practicing yoga for a few years now and have searched a lot of different yoga classes in the Dallas area. And got to tell you that I really feel at home at Gaia Flow. I love how they start the class with the core work out to help remember to engage your core in your practice. I really enjoy having lessons at the beginning of class to help me re direct focus through the poses and in life, it is also great because the lessons usually always fit my current life situation and helps feed my spiritual side. The classes are great for all level of yogi's and they take yoga to a whole new level that helps you really push and find yourself. Some people use yoga for their own time to settle their mind, some use it to find a spiritual balance in themselves, others use it just for the simple work out of it. Gaia Flow fits all those aspects with respect to all. For the most part the teachers and students are all great. In any big group or community there will always be friction with some and differences, we are all individual and different in great ways. So I can understand that sometimes when there is a teacher that you do not "gel" with it could disturb your mind... the main thing to remember in this is that Yoga is awkward and unique and sometimes people or instructors are put in your path to help you continue to focus on yourself and your purpose in your practice. Which will help you throughout reality and life. I have been going to Gaia Flow since November and I am very happy with my path there and continuing my growth, I recommend people give it a go and see if they can find that peace to continue their journey with the help of GFY. read more

Favorite yoga studio in Dallas! Love their gentle waves class especially on Monday nights with Stacey. What's unique? You always start and end class in shavasana. Definitely stay for the peppermint neck massage at the end of class. It's the best part! I also appreciate that Gaia is a love based community. For example, they share good news at the beginning of class to create a positive atmosphere. Each class also has a meditation and spiritual teaching aspect where you learn about the yoga yamas and niyamas. What a wonderful place! I initially found Gaia flow through Groupon, and decided to give it a go since it's across the street from my house. I was pleasantly surprised with how nice and helpful everyone was. A year later, I attend Gaia flow religiously. i love that it is a community and I always feel happy vibes going in & out. Praise the lord, I've finally found a go-to yoga spot in Uptown Dallas! I've attended class a few times - they offer a $15 first week introductory special for new students. After my first week, I was hooked! The classes are most definitely for somewhat experienced yogi's. If you're like myself and haven't practiced in some time, you'll be okay as the instructors are helpful - they recognize where to push you and when not to. The studio itself is clean, hygienic, and doesn't smell - ALL HUGE WINS for yoga-lovers. I do wish the heat was turned up a bit more, however the practice itself is so challenging that you end up breaking a sweat on your own. I think the price is expensive, but I feel it's well worth it. I would definitely recommend going to the gentle waves class to check it out before trying an advanced class. I feel calm and that I've had a great work-out whenever I attend a class here! read more

This is the best yoga studio in Dallas!!!! A little over a year ago a friend from school recommend Gaia flow to me. The first class I took was with Courtney, and I was sold! I have had the opportunity to work for a yoga company that allows us to work out anywhere we want. I tried just about every yoga studio in the Dallas area, and none of them have compared to my Gaia experience!! This studio not only has talented instructors and owners, they are all so friendly and happy!!! Each class starts with a core warm up, everyone shares their good news, and they go over a different yoga practice that you can incorporate into your everyday life! They have gentler practices like gentle waves, but I recommend that everyone try a more advanced class like mountain or weekend warrior. I love all the classes because they are always different and challenging. They have two locations Addison (my fav) and uptown (my close 2nd fav this location has showers!). I recommend getting either a sticky bottom towel or a sticky mat. You will sweat and you don't want to worry about sliding around on your mat. :). I'm so happy that my first yoga experience happened here! I look forward to taking their teacher training one day:). read more

I am by no means a "yogi", yet I always get tempted by deals to yoga studios. This summer I purchased a Living Social deal for 20 yoga sessions. I was intrigued, because it was unlike the other deals I saw that only offered "one month unlimited". I figured I could fit the 20 sessions in better while keeping up with my regular exercise routines. I didn't activate this deal until December (I'm a last minute girl), but I am now working through my 20 sessions. I have only completed 5, but I seem to like yoga more after each session! The form of yoga they practice at this studio is vinyasa flow based yoga, which I prefer because it is more movement than just poses. I have attended the Ocean, Gentle Waves, and Desert classes. Ocean is the most challenging out of the ones I have attended. Lots of movement, and I am always a sweaty mess after leaving class. The class room is heated in the mid 90s, so after you get moving you definitely feel warm, but not uncomfortably hot. I have also attended a few classes in the morning, and felt refreshed and in a good mood for the rest of the day. My only complaint is that I wish they had classes that started at 6:30 or 7 PM. Currently they offer a 6 and 7:45. I can't make the 6, and don't like getting home from working out at 9 PM. Other than that, it is a very clean and contemporary yoga studio. Instructors have all been nice, helpful, and provide positive reinforcement to the fellow yogis. They also provide mats if you do not have one. read more

Ariel is amazing!! Came here for one of my ClassPass sessions and left feeling fulfilled, relaxed, and stretched. Attended "Dessert" with Ariel and it was exactly what I wanted--not too intense, but just enough to properly stretch and strengthen. Ariel is also like the perfect and ideal yoga instructor. The only downside to this place is the mats and the studio itself - the mats aren't washed in between uses so mine sort of smelled like body odor (even though the class itself distracted me from that after some time) and the facility is very small (which I understand because rent in West Village of Uptown is probably extremely expensive so I'm just glad they exist). The people who attend the yoga sessions aren't the type who will smile at you before the session. They MAY after the session though because they're relaxed and less tense. But don't let that bother you; just enjoy the yoga session for yourself. I recommend coming here as the prices are fair and the yoga seems to be outstanding. If you live in Uptown, its probably a short walk for you or if not, the nearest trolley station is very close. read more

It's 2012, and I'm determined to get into shape this year. Last year, I purchased a voucher which allows me to visit each of 25 Dallas-area yoga studios once for free, but I've been so busy that I'm just now getting around to it. So, January is Yoga Month for me! I started the year off by visiting Gaia Flow Yoga. This is HOT yoga. After taking a hot class over the summer, I decided that this was not for me. However, 6 months later, I was ready to give it another shot. I took the Desert class, which was supposed to be acceptable for beginners. I felt that the class moved a bit quickly for me, but I was able to keep up. There was no pressure to do crazy poses that are beyond my level. In the end, I enjoyed the class very much. One thing I should note: the instructor used a head set microphone, and I noticed that this mic was listed in other reviews. I can see the mic being useful in large classes, but my class was on the small side. My concentration was broken several times when I overheard the instructor talking to others in the class. This isn't necessarily one for the CONs list. I just thought I should include this info. The studio itself looks great, and it feels very comfortable. It's clean and bright, and it has showers. Had some great experience at this yoga studio! I worked with Tamara and she is very good. She's very helpful and her voice is so soothing. I'll definitely be returning and I highly recommend this yoga studio for those who like to work out in 92 F degree r´heated room. I've been a member of Gaia Flow for 2 years and love love love it. There are classes for every skill level and intensity you like. Love the heated class room! (92-94F) I've tried different yoga studios before gaia flow but never found one I loved and began thinking Yoga might not be for me, until I found Gaia Flow. Now I'm hooked! Another reviewer said she doesn't like the microphones and occasionally I wish the instructors would be a little more mindful of their "volume setting" but thats really the only minor critique I have.
