I attended a donation based class for a new yoga instructor. The studio was easy to find. But I sat in the car awhile trying to figure out if someone was inside. None of the lighting inside can be seen outside. The studio was spacious and clean. Plenty of space to leave your bag and shoes up front. They also have what I believe are called stall bars along one of the walls for acroyoga training. I love the mural on the wall outside, gotta get a picture with it! read more

Wonderful yoga studio with amazing instructors offering a wide variety of classes; aside from yoga (Vinyasa, Iyengar, & Hatha) they also offer acroyoga and handstand classes! I've taken the Vinyasa class led by Deandre and the Acroyoga class. Both classes are beginner friendly and also tailored for advanced students. Each time I've come here I've felt so welcomed and left feeling amazing from class and the community environment they have created. Everyone is so welcoming- instructors AND the students. I have to admit, I'm really picky about which studios I go too (my faves are Twist and Karmany), but I have easily added The Yoga Movement to that list. Awesome studio across the highway from Mockingbird Station!! I came Friday night at 7 and did acroyoga for the first time. I heard about it from a friend. For those of you that don't know, acroyoga is partner stretching - but don't shy away away if you don't have a partner, there's lots of people who go alone and partner up in class. I paid $15 for walk-in for 2 hours...so worth it!! There were 3 instructors that rotated teaching and there was a good mix of newbies (like me) and vets who had been going weekly for months. The class was split into 3 parts: 1. Individual flow yoga 2. Acroyoga 3. Thai massage. The last two are with a partner. It was my first time, so I needed a lot of help. The instructors are great about walking around, spotting you, and giving you tips. They help build your confidence to do moves you never thought you could! I had a really fun time and will definitely go back! Also, the owners came in at the end and practice acroyoga with the rest of us at the end. They were so strong and amazing, the woman seemed to virtually float in the air and was twisting and turning effortlessly! Her and her partner communicated so well throughout their practice. At the end, they stayed and welcomed anyone and everyone to stay with them and "jam" until 2 or 3am. They were serious! I stayed for an hour or so and continued to get instruction from the other students and teachers. This really is place that feels welcoming and also cares about your safety. read more

I scheduled an appointment through the mind-body app. I paid for the appointment. Showed up. And lo and behold -- The yoga movement is not there. It's a strength gym. Lovely yoga studio that sits right by the Katy Trail. Go warm up with a run and then come here for a solid yoga stretch. Jenny is wonderful and keeps it sassy and fun. The time will go by quickly as you get your chaturanga on! I hear they also have acroyoga here! Lots of fun things to try out. Love that they keep the studio nice and warm too. A wonderful, local yoga studio that has a no bullshit let's get down to business vibe. This is a very "check your ego at the door" kind of place that offers high quality Iyengar based teachings with a smidge of vinyasa flow. Every time I take one of Jenny's classes (she's the owner y'all) I leave with an arsenal of new knowledge about my body and my practice. Amidst the backdrop of a noisy world, I have discovered a place of peace and quiet, a respite from the external and internal noise of daily living. This quiet place is called The Yoga Movement. In July 2012, I had gone to hear a friend play in his jazz ensemble at Whole Foods Market in Park Lane Center. While there, I chatted briefly with a young lady named Jenny Parum. I invited her to a musical performance of mine, she showed up, gave me a business card showing she was a Yoga Trainer, we connected on Facebook (don't all roads lead to Facebook?), and now here I am, at The Yoga Movement which Jenny oversees. I guess we all have our reasons for giving yoga a try. I have a couple of degenerative discs in my lower lumbar, so I decided to try yoga for core strengthening, in an effort to minimize pain in my back. Something happened the first time I walked into The Yoga Movement that I had not anticipated. I felt empathy greet me at the door. As it turns out, when I read the bios of the trainers at the facility, it seems to be a common thread that some of them came to yoga out of pain in their lives. We all have our stories, yes? Some of us may experience physical pain, some spiritual or emotional, still others experience mental anguish. I am no different in this regard, as I have been dealt my fair share of pain in this life as well. So I went to try yoga for physical pain, but what I have discovered at The Yoga Movement is that their approach to yoga is more than just in the physical realm. The empathy I was feeling was coming from the trainers, from their pain, and from their desire to help others in this life, not only physically, but also spiritually, mentally, and emotionally as well. I get the feeling that Jenny Parum is a little like the Carole King of the yoga world, in that, "winter, spring, summer or fall, all you've got to do is call", because in Jenny, "you've got a friend"! I'm so glad I went to hear that friend of mine at Whole Foods that day, and while there, I'm glad I introduced myself to a person like Jenny Parum. Somehow, I get the impression that my steps were led to this place. A physical approach to yoga is just what the doctor ordered for me. Yet more than that, Jenny's soulful and empathetic approach to yoga serves as a quiet and peaceful balm, to the noise and pain that I have experienced in life. If you're wanting conditioning and strengthening for physical growth or development, The Yoga Movement is the place for you. And if what you seek is a little peace, quiet, and tranquility, from all the noise that this world has to bring, then you'll also find that at 4931 Airline Road. The studio is located right off the Katy Trail. The warm greetings from the instructors make up for the simplicity of the studio. It's nice but not a lot of bells and whistles--the standard yoga studio. The instructors are all about training and making everyone feel accomplished. It's a wonderful place for beginners or those wanting to focus on yoga...unlike the other studios which allow people to speak absurdly loud during/outside the class. Acroyoga class was a fun and challenging alternative to traditional yoga, which works well for both first timers and well experienced yogis. The people are friendly and inviting. Be prepared to wash your clothes afterwards from sweaty post-session hugs and the occasional drops of sweat across the practice area. Definitely recommended. read more

Every one who teaches at the studio exudes love and joy! I really enjoy Daniel's Deep Stretch and Jenny's Hatha Yoga classes. The Thai and Fly crew are way kind, fun, and gave me a dose of confidence as a beginner so I had a positive and deeply impactful experience. TYM peeps offer great service, they address everyone by name, help set up your mat and props and give a warm farewell. The classes are varied, creative as well as challenging and restorative.
