Look no further. The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten. He did everything he said he was going to do, in the timeline he said it'll be done. We have a house in Laguna Hills with a flat roof and a tile roof portion. We had some leaking in the areas under the flat roof, due partially to the fact that the roof was past it's prime, wasn't installed well to begin with, and garden-style drains that had been used originally we're clogging and leaking. (All of this intel learned after Bills assessment) I spent quite a while looking for a roofer because of the cost and the risk of choosing a bad one with all of that money and potential water damage on the line. We found BP Custom Roofing on Yelp and google and ultimately chose them because of the high ratings and the meticulous detail that Bill, the owner, provides when quoting the job. He outlined specifically what he and his team were going to do and why and showed multiple roofs like ours they had done all over Orange County. NOBODY else came anywhere close to that level of detail, explanation and experience. They just gave a price. In the end WE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE! Not only did they do a beautiful job on our flat roof but they made time to do EXTENSIVE repairs to our tile roof which was thrashed (250 tiles broken) during a botched fumigation. We needed a new roof for a 1950's home in Tustin. After receiving many visits and quotes from roofing companies, Bill stood out as a very knowledgable and honest roofing expert. We had many concerns and questions, and he was patient with us. He took the time to address every one of them via phone, text and email. Bill was very easy to reach and very easy to approach with any questions or issues we would bring up. From the start, he was very clear about what the job entailed and was honest about unexpected costs - for example, its impossible to predict what type of wood damage we would find once we pulled the old roof off. The job estimate included all pricing breakdown, including the cost of different types of wood, if our roof was to need it. I loved the fact that there was no hidden costs - his job estimate was several pages long and had very detailed, itemized pricing. His honesty was simply authentic. His crew is absolutely professional, his foreman Jesus did an outstanding job with the new roof installation. He was also very easy to approach and would accommodate special requests around the outside of the house. Jesus and crew would clean up the ground area around the home extremely well everyday after they were finished for the day. After the roof was installed, we had the house fumigated and painted by two other companies. I reached out to B.P. Custom Roofing as I was looking for an experienced roofer that could assist with re-roofing my mid-century home with a low slope. My particular situation has added complexity as I'm part of an HOA that dictates roofing materials, further limiting my options. I have been researching more modern roofing systems that could enable me to both meet my HOA roofing materials requirements and be compatible with my low-slope roof, and sent some findings to B.P. Custom Roofing to see if they would be willing to consider installing a roof using a newer, uncommon installation method. This system from an Australian company called Nu-lok promised tile roof installations with a pitch as low as 5 degrees. Now, most roofers have their own preferred systems and suppliers and are mostly in the game of churning out roofs, though B.P. Custom Roofing was clearly different. I had some small hope that B.P. Custom Roofing's experience with unique installations would improve my chances of the Nu-lok system addressing my issues, so I reached out asking if they'd consider my job. Right away, Bill responded (on the weekend no less!) and provided his initial thoughts. He advised that they recently took on a large job that would keep his team busy through the end of the year, and thus were not able to provide any bids in the meantime. He explained the difficulty in providing bids in advance given the fluctuation of the cost of materials. To me, this was the first sign that Bill is running a quality operation- he was upfront and honest about what he could commit to, placing the priority on fulfilling the work he's committed to and level-set expectations of customers. Additionally, Bill took the time to look at the installation system I sent and he gave his impressions of some of the challenges I would be facing, including costs and testing standards and certifications that the local building inspectors would want to see. When I asked for some additional information of any specifics (to aid in my own knowledge in navigating the challenges of my situation), he obliged and offered up what information he could. He advised of considerations in working with my particular city's code requirements, provided phone numbers for suppliers to contact and advised on next steps. I know running a business commands time and attention, and even while it was clear that Bill would not be able to provide me a proposal he was generous with his time and knowledge to steer me in the right direction. At exactly 10:33 AM, the morning of our appointment as I was pulling into her driveway I received a text from her saying " Where are you?"...That started off rubbing me the wrong way...no grace period for being 3 minutes late?! Thanks for starting off our meeting on a good note. To his point I am conserned with his well being. I wondered if he was in an accident which is why I texted. 2) The homeowner came out the minute I showed up and I started to discuss the project, and I pointed out immediately the rotted fascia board in the front of the house and the rotten rafter tail in the front of the house and that would need to be changed and to expect an extra cost and probably a significant extra cost as there was considerable damage. THE HOMEOWNER TOLD ME NO LESS THEN 5 TIMES "JUST GIVE ME THE PRICE" WITHOUT FURTHER DISCUSSING THE SERIOUS WOOD DAMAGE....HUGE RED FLAG! When a homeowner tells me over and over "just give me the price" and doesn't want to discuss how much of an impact the serious wood damage will be and/or what the price might be that usually means they don't care and won't want me to fix it even though the city inspector will require it, or, b) will fight tooth and nail every step of the way to try to avoid the extra cost as they didn't want to hear it from the start, or, c) will expect it to be FREE as they didn't care to discuss it from the beginning....ALL HUGE RED FLAGS! Never said give me a price. I asked for the potential length of the project so I can plan accordingly and never got any details 3) The homeowner told me that the HOA wrote them a notice or violation and that they needed to fix their roof because they were being forced by the HOA do to the seriously deteriorated condition. ANOTHER HUGE RED FLAG! As a homeowner myself and with average home costs in South OC starting at or close to $1,000,000 why in the world would you neglect your home so poorly that the HOA must send a notice to pursue you to fix your roof?!! IF YOU HAVE TO BE POINT ON NOTICE BY THE HOA TO FIX YOUR ROOF THEN WHAT WILL HAPPEN ONCE THE ROOF IS TORN OFF AND I FIND TONS OF WOOD DAMAGE FROM NEGLET FROM YEARS OF IGNORING YOUR ROOF?!!....This is NOT a good sign and a bridge I don't want to cross! Not a professional roofer and it never leaked. Gotta remember the price of the houses did not reach a million until 20 years later. HOA did not contact us about roof damage. roof is over 30 years old and served us well and we wanted to replace the roof. How many people do you know climb on their roof? 4) I was fully prepared for our appointment with an aerial diagram showing the roof size and dimensions, shingle samples and color swatches, underlayment types, ventilation options......everything is in my truck to show the homeowner and go over all the details, so they know what is involved. This homeowner didn't allow me to show them any options but simply said "email me the brochure".....ROOFING IS A HUGE PROJECT AND NEEDS TO BE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL AND ESPECIALLY THE EXTENSIVE WOOD DAMGE DUE TO THEIR YEARS OF NEGLET......but this homeowner didn't seem interested and simply just wanted the price......but obviously there is MUCH more to a roof then just a price. Custom roofing was not the cheapest Quote I got, but just talking to him, seeing his work (more on that later) and reading all his raving reviews, made this an easy choice. Just before getting solar installed on our roof, we discovered we had a roof leak during the December storms. We interviewed four different roofing contractors and we chose Bill at B.P. Custom Roofing. When Bill came by to give us his estimate, he was the best prepared of all the other contractors with detailed parameters of our roof from satellite imagery. He was also the only one that sat down with us and fully explained the whole process and the options available. He is a fountain of information and clearly attentive to detail, which we appreciated. We put a composite roof over the existing wood shingles in 1989 and this year the time had come to replace it. We talked to a few roofing contractors and ended up going with BP Custom Roofing. We are happy we did. Bill has been in the business for decades and has tremendous knowledge. He is straight forward, tells it like it is, and is very professional. When he bid the job he provided a complete package, that he encouraged us to read, and not just a number in a text or email. There was never a concern if the crew would be showing up from one day to the next. Bill's crew was prompt, professional, and accessible. When I had questions, they answered them. And Bill would make sure everything was going as planned. We have canned lights in 2 cathedral ceilings and we were concerned about debris/nails around the lights. Bill's crew made sure that any heavy debris were removed from those 2 areas; and they were careful not to compromise any wires when installing the OSD. Even the small details; they asked us if we wanted the smooth or rough side out on the replacement fascia board. We went with CertainTeed Landmark Solaris shingles. We chose Solaris because the cost difference is negligible and any reflective properties are better than none, especially when going with a darker roof. We wanted to see how the roof would look when installed and since there was no record of a Solaris Moire Black roof installed in South Orange County, Bill had a representative from CertainTeed provide addresses outside of our area. We ended up getting a bundle of Solaris Moire Black and placed them on our roof to see how it would look. The roof looks great. It is not quite as dark as a typical black roof. Bill and his teammates attention to detail and craftsmanship are second to none. We had a complete tear off and a very large part is flat. The flat part was our biggest worry over the years as it leaked significantly every time it rained. Bill had the right solution and built a slight "berm" or "cricket" to cause the water to run off the flat part. How do we know this is going to work? We are of course in the midst of a drought, so he "flooded " the flat part before the final layer of shingles were put down. He was the only roofer who even thought to ask about it's condition before he even bid and proffered a viable solution! Don't walk.
