To their credit, they showed up the very next day and they were on time. Two technicians arrived and immediately got to work. One was on the roof while the other worked in the basement, and it was clear they knew exactly what they were doing. They also explained that this is a family owned business, with multiple family members working together on the same jobs, which really showed in how coordinated and invested they were in the work. The scope of work involved installing a stainless steel chimney liner designed to properly vent double gas appliances, upgrading existing connections for safety and code compliance, installing two double tee connections, and finishing everything with a stainless steel top plate and rain cap. They also handled flashing and waterproofing by installing aluminum flashing with ice shield underlayment, carefully removing shingles as needed, and waterproofing the exterior of the chimney to prevent future moisture issues. What stood out most was their professionalism and communication. They explained each step clearly, answered questions without rushing, and made sure I understood why certain upgrades were necessary. The workmanship looks excellent and very clean, especially considering the complexity of the job. Despite the rocky start, they ultimately delivered quality work and followed through when it mattered. The only reason I brought them in was to clean and make sure it was working properly. I've been told by others who have since tried to help us get it working that we probably need to remove the fan that they convinced us we needed. And charged us so much for. Even if the fan did work (which it doesn't - smoke billows into the living room -- NEVER did that before Ace came) the fan sounds like an engine on an airplane, which takes away any chance of enjoying a fire. I should have written this ages ago, but I was hoping we would figure out a way to make it work. If you have an older house, PLEASE find a company that knows what they are doing. Just as he said, they arrived Sunday morning and put the liner in. He told me the smell would go away, which I was very dubious about. However, he was correct. My home does not smell like creosote anymore. I saw this company had a lot of negative reviews and I just want you to know that they did right by me. Not everybody has a bad experience. For this company there should be a zero star option!!!…read more DO NOT EVEN THINK OF USING THEM National Chimney & Masonry was contracted to clean my chimney. While cleaning they told my wife that the chimney was seriously deteriorated and recommended a stainless steel liner. Big surprise they had it on the truck and scared her into the installation that day - $1,100. It was bad enough to get taken on the install but they did not even do it correctly and created a deadly situation in my home. I returned home a week later to find our home filled with smoke and soot. I called my oil company who told me that the insert was incorrectly installed and National had sealed the pipe with an excessive amount of cement, which fell into the chimney opening and completely sealed it off. I called a REPUTABLE Chimney service to inspect and here is what they found: A 5 inch insert was placed into a 7 inch chimney opening which was not only against code, but was not large enough to support the existing oil burning furnace and gas hot water heater. This caused a backup of smoke and soot which clogged the furnace and the insert. The installer ran the hot water heater smoke pipe directly into the wall, instead of using the proper connection outside of the wall, which is against code. When the hot water heater was installed in the wall, the installer cut into the stainless steel insert, instead of using a T connection, invalidating the lifetime warranty on the insert. Two new chimney caps were installed, one of which was the incorrect size for the chimney opening. The two caps that were fine were taken away Inspection of the top of the chimney showed that furnace cement was used to seal the new insert in place. Cardboard was packed around the insert pipe to keep it in place while the cement dried, which is not only against code, but caused an extremely dangerous fire hazard in the chimney. Inspection of the top eight feet of the chimney showed only normal wear and tear, a condition in which an insert is not recommended by a reputable chimney cleaning company. Repeated calls to the company and messages left have been ignored and owner Tom Casey told me to take him to court. I took him to small claims court and the judge decided it was a clear case of consumer fraud and awarded triple the judgment. I gave my deposit and then was called several weeks later and said they could not do the job for that amount due to the rise in prices during COVID. The prices had already gone up when I was given the estimate, so I didn't understand why the sudden change. I think they realized that the estimate was on the low side. They will be sending me back my deposit, putting it in the mail tomorrow morning. I just don't think this is good business. And even if they came back and said they would do the job for the original estimate I still would not go with this company. All comments are welcome. Eddie the guy that gave me the estimate called me this morning and apologized for the mistake. Due to the COVID issues, which is like Eddie said is no ones fault everything has gone up tremendously. Even though I have never had work done by this company, I am giving it 5 stars for the Honesty. Another reason why I changed my star rating was because of customer service on the part of Eddie.
