A second-grade teacher from nearby Franklin Academy had the idea to have a free little library with books available for the youth in the community. Her second-grade class was the first to add books to the free little library, starting the take-a-book, leave-a-book honor system. Even though the free little library was intended for children, I did notice some other adult books available. But thankfully, the majority of the free little library's books were children's and young adult books. The free little library is divided into three parts, one to hold taller children's books, and the other side has a shelf to fit even more books inside. The free little library was clean, and the books were organized well. Parking was available in the 15-minute spots in front of Wake Electric. If you need more time, Wake Electric's parking lot is at the back of the building. If you have any infant, toddler board books and picture books or early reader chapter books, or middle school level chapter books to young adult fiction and teen books, this is a great place to get the books into hands that will enjoy them!

Painted blue with a lovely wooden shingle roof, the library has a single door. Inside, three shelves that were well stocked with all sorts of books. Some retired library books, hardcovers, softcovers, best sellers (Bossypants!), non-fiction, biography, thrillers, children's and young adult. Lots of everything for anyone who reads. The Raleigh Rose Garden is one of the City of Raleigh Parks. It is a treasure in Raleigh, located…read morebehind the Raleigh Little Theatre. The garden was officially dedicated in 1951 and remains one of three accredited rose gardens in North Carolina. The area has a fascinating history. The sunken, oval-shaped space was a dirt race track back when the NC Fairgrounds was located there. Then, during World War I, the space was converted into a training ground for Camp Polk's combat tanks. The racehorse track and the combat tank training trench were reimagined into the space we get to enjoy today. The mud hole was drained, and the land was reshaped by volunteers. The tier-terraces were a way to keep the water from washing away the future flowers. The amphitheater was constructed first, and it took years for the rose garden, as there was no budget for it during World War II. Nurseries, community garden clubs and even private individuals donated the rose bushes and native trees, Normally, there is a free parking lot, but my visit today had the lot blocked off as a tree brought down power lines. So there was parking available on the streets surrounding the gardens. My visit today was short: it was 97 degrees out, and my phone overheated during my stroll. I realized I might be overheated, too and made my way back into the air conditioning. It is a stunning, historic oasis that is well worth the visit--just remember to bring a cold bottle of water on hot afternoons!

The ones you park next to and end up with a flat tire. The storm drains that the tow companies and tire companies love and are very familiar with. How does a contract with the city equate to not for profit yet receiving all the benefits of a not for profit and getting paid for it.

Yikes! I went by myself a week ago to check this church out, and while I was impressed with the…read morehospitality, I was discouraged by the pastor, and lack of biblically based sermons. Although everyone was welcoming and kind, when talking with the pastor, his eyes seemed to glaze over as he was giving me his welcome speech. It seemed a bit rehearsed, and like he was trying to be Steven Furtik. In addition, when listening to his sermons, it was evident that this pastor has no biblical teaching, hasn't attended any sort of seminary and therefore quite a bit of what he was saying wasn't connected together, was based on what old churches have said in the past, and the scripture presented didn't seem to match up to what was being said. I would check out another church that seems to have a multitude of biblically sound leaders and a responsive congregation.

The Kid City program is safe & fun, & our two year daughter loves going -- happily waves "bye bye" to us every Sunday, & always comes home singing songs from their time of worship. Pastors Stuart & April truly care about who you are & what your story is & the direction your life is headed. City Light is about more than just "filling sits" -- it's a community. They even have dinner parties throughout the week, to just get to together & chat on a deeper level. :) They just launched in January & they are actively growing -- & I can speak for them, when I say, we'd love to have you visit us!

I called their hotline unsure if anyone would understand my situation or take me seriously. They…read moreimmediately understood what I was going through, and provided me with relevant resources. I am amazed that we have such a great resource here in town. If you need an advocate to attend a meeting with you, they can arrange for that. If you need a support group, they have those. They can even set you up with "companion calls" to get you through the time between support group sessions. There are snacks provided, with little notes of encouragement provided by UNC students (a sorority I think). If you need individual counseling, they have that too. If transportation is an issue, they can arrange that for you while protecting your anonymity. All of this, it's not magic and doesn't always run perfectly, but thank G-d they are here. I don't know how they do it, but somehow they do. The location is on a bus line and not too far from UNC campus, and not overly visible from the street (i.e., one does not feel overexposed going in). The facilities are a little old, but work just fine. I wanted to leave this review to encourage people who are on the fence to reach out, as terrifying or uncertain as it may feel. It can be really scary to call or walk into a place called a "rape crisis center." I'm glad that I did.

ShopSpace is a non-profit metal shop that offers space to create for those with experience, and/or…read morethose with none. They offer classes for various skill levels in metal work, fabrication, knife making, and jewelry. I found them online and it was very easy to book a class. I'm a complete novice and decided to book the forging class for my husband's and my anniversary. The class was really fun and our instructor was great! I feel a little bad for being a little needy, as I am not the natural that my husband is/was. But I am glad for the level of care that was shared with everyone in the class. This was such a fun experience!! I look forward to trying a different type of class in the near future.
