Dr. Shoushtari is incredible! I will never go to another endodontist--well, let's be honest, I hope I don't have to ever go back to him either. However, if I ever find myself needing to go to an endodontist, I will know who to trust. My dentist suggested Dr. Shoushtari when he saw I had some inflammation on my gum line. I already had a root canal from a previous dentist and since it was so old, it had gotten reinfected. I was so nervous to go to someone new because I trust my dentist, but he said I had to see a specialist--an endodontist. Dr. Shoushtari and his team put me at ease right away. One of the aspects that makes him different is that he explains everything as he works. When he first saw my gum, he explained that there were 3 different things that could be happening. He did a 3D X-ray and it ended up being option 2-which was a reroot canal. He walked me though the procedure. The dental assistant put me at ease too. It's really the little things that make a difference, like she got me a little cup to put my earrings in when I had to do the X-Ray. Also, they applied vaseline to my lips so they wouldn't get dry during the procedure. Throughout the procedure Dr. Shoushtari kept checking in and telling me how long each part would take and what to expect from each part of the procedure. The receptionist is also very sweet and helpful and made sure I understood my treatment plan. All in all, I felt very taken care of. I felt like they went the extra mile to make sure I understood what was happening and what to expect. The first time I saw Dr. Shoushtari was 10 years ago to help with some pain I was having he took his time to make sure i was comfortable and understood the process. I had a root canal over 30 years ago on my front tooth and have continued to have cold sensitivity over the years. He checked it out and found there was an extra root not taken care of in the initial root canal. He took great care of me. Now that I am married and have killer dental insurance, I'm going on a bit of a root canal bender, getting my mouth all fixed up. So far I've been there twice, and it's been as enjoyable as a root canal can possibly be. Dr. S. is very thorough in explaining everything he's doing, which I find very interesting. It passes the time. Also, all of his equipment is very high-tech, with all kinds of cameras and gadgets shooting off at every angle. I scheduled an appointment as a second opinion. His office is very tidy and organized. He examined my tooth and clarified the treatment options. Interestingly enough, I had an appointment with another doctor the same day, whom insisted i need a full mouth CBCT, with the cost of $450. They also wanted $200 if I want a CD. Dr. Shushtari took few X-rays and said at this stage CBCT is not necessary. His office told me CBCT charge is $180, even though it is a full mouth. Because they only use the upper jaw part and copying CD is free. Dr. Shushtari has integrity and is honest. read more

I will add my voice to the five star choir. To make a long story short, I had a root canal scheduled elsewhere (my dentist's referral) and it was canceled (family emergency of the doctor). I was extremely anxious about not knowing when it would be done and called Dr. Shoushtari, as my husband had seen him in the past. My husband highly recommended him, I was very happy that they were willing to see me for the initial evaluation and treatment at the same time, with the records from the prior Endodontist. Not only that, but the office called me when they had a cancellation so I was able to get in even sooner. I am really grateful for this dental practice! My mom was having major pain in one of her teeth so I took her to see Dr. Shoushtari. It was definitely a good decision! Dr. Shoushtari exemplifies the ideal doctor anyone would love to have. He's a nice, caring person, and he loves what he does. He not only treated my mom, but he also gave us an educational explanation as to what happened and why my mom was in pain. In addition, after her first appointment her pain drastically diminished; after her second appointment it was gone! The staff is very nice with a thorough and helpful receptionist. I went to see Doctor Shoushtari after I had a root canal done in China. Originally I just went in to check to make sure the root canal had been done properly, and Doctor Shoushtari alerted to me that I should have it redone because from his x-ray it looked as if I have a high chance of having 3rd root canal that the Chinese dentist had not discovered since he was not using a microscope. Doctor Shoushtari retreated my tooth and I'm so glad I had gotten this retreatment because there was indeed a 3rd root canal!!! Now I need another root canal and I have booked again with Dr. S. Doctor Shoushtari is extremely skillful...and patient too! He is always there to answer my questions, calm me down, and I felt comfortable calling into his office whenever I had any other qusetions or concerns. I was referred to two endodontists by my dentist and I chose this one. The receptionist was friendly and patient and answered all of my questions. The doctor was patient, soft spoken, and made me feel at ease. I am TERRIFIED of the dentist (probably the reason for the root canal) but Dr. S and his staff explained each step of the procedure which relaxed me. The doctor was extremely thorough, taking three X-rays before, during, and after the root canal. It took about an hour and he gave me some prescriptions to help with any potential infection. This was my second time seeing the dr (once 4 hrs ago, and again today) I was having EXTREME pain and they were able to get me in sooner than my original appointment. I had a great experience for my dentist appointment. Prior to my visit, I received a phone call from the front office reminding me of my appoint and providing directions to the office that made it very convenient. When I walked in I was greeted and made comfortable. They provided me the correct documentations right away to review and sign. I also noticed how clean and professional the office was maintained. The décor was very beautiful and appealing, all in white with orchids. I also noticed his certifications and recognitions (from prestigious universities like USC and Harvard) on the wall which made me feel I was at the right place to trust. Dr. Shoushtari is the first and only dental-care professional that has ever not made me feel like absolutely crap, despite how terrible my teeth were when I first went to him. I felt comfortable with him the second he said hello. I'll never forget the way he looked at my x-ray, and the way I felt when I was so sure he'd say "wow but you're so young." Instead, he looked at me with a gentle smile and he said "It looks like you've had your fair share of root canals." :) He is absolutely amazing. I can speak from experience on this (which you'll learn as you continue reading) so please take my word for it-- I've had several (plural!) root canal retreatments done by him and almost every time I've fallen asleep during the treatment. (Not to mention, each treatment takes 2 steps... meaning, 2 different appointments. So imagine how many times I've been there.) Unfortunately I had to leave San Diego and was sad that I couldn't have Dr. Shoushtari complete the remainder of treatment I needed. With that said though-- I've been to two other endodontists. Two! NONE of which even compare to Dr. Shoushtari. In addition to that, both of the endodontists complimented the work that Dr. Shoushtari did. Dr. Shoushtari did a very good job for my root canal treatment. He was very thorough when explaining my condition and the treatment plan, and very gentle. The procedure was quite relaxing (surprisingly)and no pain at all. I can feel all the drilling and poking. But nothing painful, not even moderately unpleasant. I made an emergency visit to see Dr. Shoushtari while I was in a great deal of pain. He examined my tooth, and quickly directed me to the hospital for IV antibiotics. The previous dentist I visited booked me for a specialist a week later, had I waited, my health could have been greatly compromised. I spent two nights in the hospital and am on the road to recovery, all because Dr. Shoushtari made the right decision and squeezed me in at 4pm on a Friday. After the examination, Dr. S. informed us there was only a small chance that my son's front tooth could be saved. He told us another tooth had zero percentage of saving even though we kept thinking it could be but he showed us the x-rays. He told us of our options, and referred us to another oral surgeon for possible dental implants. Some offices would nickel and dime you to get this or that procedure but Dr. S is a straight shooter. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Shoushtari and his staff! Two nights before a Vegas trip, I got excruciating pain on the right side of my face. I went into my dentist the next afternoon and he referred me to Dr. Shoushtari. Dr. Shoushtari and his assistant stayed open late that evening just to see me because they knew I was going out of town the next day! It wasn't immediately clear where my pain was coming from but Dr. Shoushtari wouldn't quit until he figured it out. After he identified the infected tooth, he did a root canal right away and I was out in about an hour and a half. Many dental offices I have visited have been lower on ethics scale than used-car sales offices. Luckily, this office is a rare exception. Had 5 or 6 visits to their office this year. Very relaxing view from the chair. Dr Shoushtari is top notch professional, able to work under microscope for extended time instilling confidence in patients the whole time. He is either a great actor or a Harvard trained endodontist. Ok, he is definitely licensed (#47562 from CA dental board) and Harvard trained. As far as acting, he could use a little more levity, he is very serious when he is working, no time for jokes. (Never asked if it was safe, aka movie "Marathon Man") If you want someone to tell jokes, look elsewhere. If you want a dedicated professional come here. Absolutely no pain from all the visits, except sore jaw from keeping mouth open for long time. Initially had a little difficulty with pricing for insurance because I had two plans that complement each other. Difficult for most offices to process correctly; however, Josey was able to make it work. Claims were processed promptly due to her expertise. Nothing I can say here can adequately describe the treatment and care I received at Dr. Shoushtari's dental office. After two days of searing, white-hot pain in a tooth that had been saved via a previous root canal, I drove myself to my primary dentist, who then referred me to Dr. Shoushtari. Not only did he determine that I needed an emergency root canal because the dentist who did my first one did not adequately clean the tooth out (apparently I have deep roots), but he treated me then and there, walking me through the treatment plan, and taking the time to explain what has been happening to me.
