This is the first time I ever had to get work done in Dental Care that was painless. Not annoying and very good timing there was no wait. Work was done quickly when he numbed my mouth I didn't even feel the needles which is pretty amazing. You have to get a root canal with deep roots he is the guy to go to. I was in and out in about an hour and fifteen minutes and while I have a few follow up visits with my primary dentist this entire process has been relatively uninvasive to my schedule. Thank you to Dr. Carter for rescuing me when I had a dental emergency. He got me in quickly for a last-minute root canal. The office is sparkly clean. The staff is friendly and efficient. He got me in and out within 1.5 hours and on my way. I had been referred to him by another friend who said he was great for her procedure as well. At other offices, I had had difficult experiences, but Dr. Carter calmed me down and made sure I was comfortable during the procedure. If you need a root canal, this is your guy! Especially for scaredy-cats like me. Hopefully I will never need another root canal but if I do, I will return to Dr. Carter's office. Highly recommend. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Carter perform my very first (and hopefully last) root canal. I was practically falling asleep as I was that comfortable in the chair. I can't express in words how grateful I am for the care Dr. Carter and his staff provided. Having had multiple root canals with a general dentist and then having a root canal with Dr. Carter was a night and day difference. I'd give 5 stars if it wasn't for the lack of professionalism in the front office right now. Maybe it's new staff. I just hope they learn better office and communication skills with a little more cheer in their demeanor. BUT, Dr Carter is the best. I've been to him twice now for root canals. He numbs you up really well, so no pain during the procedure and little soreness and no pain afterwards. He explains his actions along the way too. So you know that it will be over... eventually. I'm someone who gets real bad anxiety when it comes to going to the dentist. I was having pain in my tooth so I left work early. I made an emergency appointment to see my dentist the next day. They took X-rays and said it looked like I needed a root canal. Since they don't have in house Endodontist, they referred me to Michael D. Carter, DMD. My usual Endodontist was closed. My dentist offices called Michael D. Carter's office for me to make an emergency appointment. They were able to see me within 3 hours. The front desk employees were very welcoming and had great customer service. I was then called back to the chair. They had me rinse with mouthwash and then wash my hands before sitting in the chair. I love this because that means that this office is really good about hygiene and keeping everything sterile. The dental assistant was also amazing. The doctor came in, explained what he was going to do. He numbed me up the best any dentist has ever done. He talked me through all the work as he was doing it. He was very gentle and had amazing bed side manners. I went in a week later for the second part of the root canal. I took my mom in for a root canal during COVID-19. The office enforces social distancing by having clients complete paperwork in their car and asking for patients to sit in the car. Due to the heat and having no one else in the waiting room, we were able to sit in the air conditioned lobby. My mom's a senior and gets anxious about visits to any medical office. She expressed this anxiety to her dental assistant who addressed her warmly and assuaged her fears. Dr. Carter was professional, straightforward, and efficient in getting my mom's root canal taken care of. While I served as my mom's interpreter, he talked to me and her, which I appreciated to help both of us feel included in my mom's care plan. Afterwards my mom had questions about the procedure and the dentist went over an educational pamphlet to provide her answers. The front desk was also accommodating in helping us secure a small discount since my mom is a senior. I would recommend this place for professional work by the frontal office and dental team. You know, sometimes 5 stars isn't enough. I was referred to Dr. Carter for a root canal by my regular dentist. As someone who is as scared of the dentist's chair like Ice is afraid of Fire, I wasn't happy. After a mostly painless root canal from Dr. Carter, my dentist-phobia is mostly gone. I had a difficult root canal I was informed, as I required 2x as much Novocaine as normal. Besides the initial novocaine, I barely felt anything. And if I did feel something, Dr. Carter stopped immediately, hit me up with a little more novocaine, and went back to work. They finished the work in one sitting, and I experienced just a little discomfort the next morning, no pain. Took some Advil and that was it. Dr. Carter and his staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and did great work. Dr. Carter even called me at 8:30 that night to check up on me! Who does that?! I hope to never have another root canal, but if I do, I'll be seeing Dr. Carter again. read more

I guess getting a root canal isn't so bad if I get one with dr. Carter. I had a sore tooth and it was hurting my whole face. So, I went to my regular dentist. He immediately referred me to dr. Carter & took me to the front office and called dr. Carter right away and scheduled me for later on that week. Dr. Carter's schedule was very flexible, so I came in at 8:30 in the morning. He looked at my tooth and said," I could fix this right now if you have time". I did not have time so we rescheduled for a later time when I could have it done after work. The root canal itself was on a front tooth and it was no problem. I was a little jittery and very scared. I had nothing to fear, the whole process was very smooth and quite painless. I came into this office for a root canal. I will start off with I am a giant anxious mess for dental work. Dr.Carter was beyond patient and talked me through the procedure. I didn't feel any pain at all during the procedure and following their aftercare instructions had me feeling good as new very quickly. I hope to never need another root canal... Dr. Carter and his team are very professional and kind. They did a root canal on an already worked on tooth that needed repair (the dude is really good at what he does too). The procedure took a few visits and everytime I went, either someone from the team or Dr Carter personally called me a few days later to check on the healing process, etc. They also contacted me at least 6 months later to let me know they had made some adjustments to their billing and that a refund was to be sent in the mail. Went to see Dr. Carter by referral from my regular dentist. I was pleasantly surprised when I visited the office. They are a very clean and modern setup. The staff is very nice. Dr. Carter was very professional and courteous. I was most impressed by the fact that he didn't perform an unnecessary procedure on me. If you are scared to jump in the dentist chair then you will not have to worry about Dr Carter. I was scared to go because this is my first root canal. Dr Carter was referred to me from a friend and it was all that he said it was. Took X-rays of which you get to see that instance on the screen and he explains everything that is going on and what he's going to do. I can go without him telling but I see where he's coming from, he just wants to make sure you're informed. Numbed me up and did it in a way I didn't feel the needle go in. When he started, he said if I had pain to raise my hand. When he got to the root, I felt it a little and he added some more novocaine. From there, I didn't feel a thing. When he finished, he took another X-ray to show you what was done. Dr Carter makes getting a root canal simple and I left with some ibuprofen. Called me later that night to check up on me and I thought that was cool. I HIGHLY recommend him for anyone that is scared to get a root canal because he made it easy to have done and if I need another one done, I know where I'm going. Here!! read more

As a person who has a great deal of anxiety, Dr. Carter is simply inept to dealing with patients who have it. His bedside manner was not the greatest-he obviously just wants to get down to business right away & not get to know his patients. Typically, when the first thing to come out of a patients mouth is, "I'm super anxious in the dental chair, etc," it would probably be a good idea to help ease that & talk with your patient for a few minutes to distract them & make them feel comfortable. I had to get a root canal done & i hadn't had one for 10+ years so i didn't remember the process. (Side note: my anxiety has increased dramatically in the last 10 years). He numbed me up in 4 different places and as soon as he put the rubber thing on my mouth, i sort Of freaked out and had a minor panic attack. I said i couldn't do it, as i felt claustrophobic and my heart was racing a million miles a minute. His response was "well if you can't leave your mouth open for the procedure, we can't do it." "The other option to do would be getting anesthesia, and that will cost a lot." He seemed to throw his arms up almost, acting very annoyed I wasted his time. Being very negative & making me feel bad when my physical response is out of my control in this situation. I felt so horrible in that seat and at that moment, i left the office-after getting a full refund- in tears. No patient should ever feel like that under a endodontist's care. I feel like more dentist & endodontist offices should be briefed on how to deal with anxious patients. If a patient is anxious, give them options i .e. They can get anesthesia, laughing gas, etc. Not everyone knows these are options if they haven't had a lot of dental work done before. This was not a good referral from my dentist and I will be letting them know about it. Treat patients with more kindness & empathy. Not just dollar signs. read more

Dr. Carter is one of the best endodontist in San Diego. He is very professional and he likes to explain all details about the procedure before you decide. Three years ago, I had really bad pain and infection on my tooth and i went to Dr. Carter. He took my nerve out and put the temporary filling for me, i was planning on finishing the work when i go back to Turkey. But i didn't have any time when i was in Turkey and also tooth was feeling ok, i didn't have any sensitivity or pain anymore. Going to any type of dental visit is not easy for me. Dr. Carter added to my list of reasons of why not to go. He certainly knows how to treat a root canal but that's about it from my experience. He was unsympathetic to my fears, is gruff, and is lacking in bed-side manners. It's through my experience with both appointments that I've already called my primary dentist complaining about their referral to him. I am a phobic nut and so for me to need a root canal was not something I thought I could even deal with. Dr. Carter and his staff were great. Very understanding, compassionate and kind.
