I am overcoming my fear of the dentist thanks to Torrey Pines Dental Arts! My wife has been a patient here for years and she finally convinced me to come meet the staff and schedule my first appointment. She got great care from Dr. Saade and Ayah so I booked for the following week. The receptionists were kind and informative. They made me feel good about coming back too. Dr. Terranova and Patricia made my initial appointment welcoming and gentle. They were accommodating of me. This clinic creates a safety and calm that I had not experienced at previous dentists. I came back a week later for Dr. Terranova, Rich, and Delilah to take care of a bunch of work I needed done (fillings, crown replacement, deep cleaning). Then today, I got the other side of fillings done and also Max did my deep cleaning. Dr. Terranovaa is great at talking through everything calmly. She checks in throughout and remembers you're a person in the chair, not just teeth. I really appreciated being talked through parts that might pinch, vibrate, feel pressure, etc. They're clearly a busy clinic but I never felt she was rushing or annoyed. I really think this is a great place to go especially if you have fear or uncertainty about the dentist. I also would recommend Max if you're nervous about deep cleanings. I asked them to put him as my preferred hygienist, along with Ayah since she was great with my wife. Delilah did a fine job but everyone has different preferences and I just felt better with Max's approach. He explained everything, told me when I could close my mouth. provided a diagram marked with where I can't floss for 10 days due to antibiotics, provided verbal encouragement, and was also skillful at the injections needed to prep for my fillings after the cleaning). The dentist is not cheap but I felt I got my money's worth with all the attention and time taken. Parking is easy early in the morning, although it does cost money. read more

This place is a scam. I went to them as a new patient and they billed my insurance for "oral hygiene instructions". What kind of con artist tries to bill you for that? Secondly, I did a deep cleaning here before realizing what they were trying to charge my insurance. After I realized, I promptly switched dentists. The new dentist said they did a poor job in the deep cleaning. Not only that, I was looking to get a consult for an implant, and since their implant person was "out of network" they tried to charge me $600+ up front for JUST a consult. The most ridiculous part was that you had to pay for parking here $6+ that they apparently could not validate for an hour or two free. I would not recommend this place as it seems they are trying to nickel and dime you for every step of the process. The only reason they have good reviews is they have a signs plastered all over their office begging for 5 star reviews. Oh and not to mention, they send aggressive text messages before your appointment saying you'll be charged $100 if you miss your appointment. The funny part is that the dentist was 20+ minutes late to see me after my cleaning. What a joke. Maybe they should refund me for making ME wait!! Edit: Michael S seems to be a liar as my insurance statement says that this place attempted to charge $80 for oral hygiene instructions and the insurance paid none of it. First off I would like to commend Juliette, she is an amazing dental hygenist/assistant. I had her for a cleaning last year, and she is super nice and easygoing, she cleaned my teeth so fast, and it didn't hurt at all. She made sure I was comfortable and gave me electric toothbrush recommendations too. I bought the toothbrush she recommended because she said to and it is amazing. Fast forward to yesterday. My hygenist was awful. I didn't get her name but she isn't even listed on the website. She is like 50-60 years old and has short brown hair. She used the scaling machine on my teeth maybe a total of 5 minutes and then used the metal scraping tool to do the rest of my teeth. Most of the time she scaled my teeth, she stabbed did into my gums. I have never been scared of going to the dentist, but I was actually terrified. She was also telling me that she hated electric toothbrushes, which I have never ever heard before coming from a dental office. She didn't even know the brand name, she just said the circle toothbrushes (oral b). She didn't know how to use the water sucking vacuum machine, she was holding it like outside of my mouth instead of inside, so there was water splashing all over my mouth and I was just holding a bunch of water in the back of my throat. Then she ended it by saying "hopefully that wasn't too bad." I have never heard a hygenist say that to me before. She then proceeded to polish my teeth, which she globbed a bunch of polish on and mounded it on top of my front teeth. Then she washed it out using the water machine, and water was going all over my face. There was still so much grit inside my mouth, to the point where it was crunching so I asked to rinse out again. She then said that she was going to give me fluoride then let me go. Everytime I have gone to this office, the hygenist would bring the doctor over to have them double check my teeth. She said oh... i don't know if there's a doctor here. A thought came into my head that maybe this was someone impersonating a dental hygenist and I started to become really afraid. She finally brought Doctor Michael over and he said that everything was fine. I really like Doctor Michael and have only had positive interactions with him so I trusted that he knew what he was talking about. I believe that my mouth is clean because I brush my teeth every night and floss pretty regularly but I'm telling you that she barely did anything. I could have cleaned my own teeth at home using the metal scraper and did the same job that she did. Then came the fluoride. This woman squirted the fluoride all over my teeth and lips and my lips were so sticky afterwards. If you go here, ask for one of the main hygenists listed on the website. I don't know who the woman was that I got. She is not on the website listed as a hygenist. I don't even know if she is licensed. It felt like I was her first test subject. read more

This is a practice that truly cares deeply for its patients, and I can't be more grateful for this team. I recently experienced a financing complication with CareCredit after finishing a treatment that left me in a pretty tough position. I was lucky enough to get Brenda when I called the office. Not ten minutes later, she had already gotten in touch with the lender on my behalf, and was able to resolve this complication much to my benefit. I've worked in customer service my entire professional life, and can say from experience Brenda went beyond the call of duty. It's gestures such as these that remind me why after five years, exploring the market has never even crossed my mind. This is a high-priced dental group. I have used them for many years but the service has slowly declined over the past two years. They failed to clean a pocket in the back of my mouth properly and it resulted in some bone loss to my otherwise healthy gums. But as if to add insult to injury, I was awaiting following up care for six months. A few days before my scheduled appointment, I received a call to inform me "they forgot they'll be leaving the office early that day." My reply, okay, when can you see me? "Oh, we're not doing afternoon appointments anymore" That's the only time I can come because I run a business. What should I do? Went in for the first of my two yearly free cleaning only to find out that the changed it to a perio-maintenance (which was never discussed with me prior) but seems to be the more expensive of the treatments. I only found out about this at time of billing. It's a bit odd that this was not discussed with me prior to then actually charging me... when I saw the bill, some of the numbers weren't adding up so I called and it turns out the last cleaning I had was perio-maintenance, but I wasn't charged because they had previously over billed me and instead of telling me they over billed me they just kept the difference ($50) and added it as a 'credit'. Nothing was mentioned about this 'credit' in the last cleaning which led me to believe it was a standard cleaning covered by my insurance. I asked them how much was this credit, which the amount was never given to me. Then I was told that some of it was applied to my current bill. I looked back at my itemized bill and no such credit is listed. read more

This place just sucks. They were good like 7 years ago, but over time have really declined. The doctors are late to see you after cleanings, causing patients to extensively wait(over 20 min). Additionally, after an obvious change management, they have been pushing a lot of beauty and cosmetic work. Trying to push you for whitening, unnecessary straightening with invisalign, all sorts of stuff no other dentist has ever aggressively tried to sell me while their fingers and tools are in my mouth. Also, they if you make an appointment (dont!), be sure you dont miss their text message barrage. They send you 3 or 4 messages leading up to your appointment sent days apart that most phone spam filters catch, and then if you dont respond they will CANCEL your appointment WITHOUT TELLING YOU. Saade is extremely sloppy. He was clearly distracted while doing fillings on me. He ran his drill all over my front teeth while polishing up some tiny gumline fillings; as a result I now have visible scuff marks on the enamel. He also did a side filling on one of my back teeth; although I've never had gum bleeding problems before, I've had gum bleeding in that - and only that - area ever since (~ 2 years now). I had my idk 5th teeth cleaning yesterday and I changed dental insurances, i forgot my card and the guy at the front was nice enough to go out his way to look me up in a fee different ways. AMAZING! I had a lot of work done here between 2018-2021, including multiple fillings, 2 crowns, and Invisalign. I unfortunately needed a lot done after some serious malpractice from another dentist in San Diego. I recently needed to fix one of the last remaining things done by that previous malpractice dentist. I moved to LA a couple years ago, so I couldn't go to TPDA, but it reminded me that I never gave this well deserved review. I'm so glad this is where I went after the scary experiences at the previous dentist. They really helped me out. The dentists here are true medical professionals who prioritize the patient's well-being over all else. Everything was always well explained, and despite it being a very busy practice, I never felt like I was rushed. No pressure to overtreat, and the quality of the work that they do need do to is just outstanding. Everything I've had done here has been completely stable and comfortable over the past few years. Front desk staff were also amazing, always followed through when they said they'd call, kept accurate records, and explained billing clearly. It looks like not all of the same dentist/staff are still there but if even a few are then I know they're still taking great care of patients. read more

I feel it's time for an update as I've never left the dentist as excited as I was after my visit yesterday. In addition to my standard cleaning, I had Dr. Cook work his artistry magic filling in a gap in my lower front teeth. I'm so happy with the results - He's an artist!!! This is something I am pretty sure I have been living with for nearly 20 years (knocked my teeth loose on a trampoline as a kid), has always been bothersome (since my tongue rests right behind the gap, and I wrote off as "just life" as the time, discomfort and expense of braces/invisalign didn't seem worth it for correcting this issue. On my last cleaning visit, when Dr. Cook came to check out my teeth and make sure everything was good and healthy, I brought the gap back up and the options I had. There is invisalign of course, or putting a veneer over it, both pretty expensive options. Then Dr. Cook had the brilliant idea to fill it in with composite bonding...same thing thats used for a filling. I was given a quote, which was obviously substantially less money and completely reversible if I wasnt happy with the results. My biggest fear was adding the bonding would create a new bothersome abnormality for me feeling it with my tongue. Completely the opposite. It feels so much better and more natural and just WOW, you can't even tell. In less than a hour, it now looks like I have the perfect smile after months of invisalign. Both Dr. cook and the hygenist agreed that my smile looks so much brighter now that there isn't the focus on the dark gap (you don't see in my standard toothy smile but could see when I spoke. Photos speak louder than words so I am including a before and after photo. I looked at it in my magnifying mirror at home and I cannot figure out where the bonding is added... the shape and color matching is uncanny perfection. He was so meticulous and wanted to make sure I was happy with the results in the color and how it felt. After a few comments and adjustment, it felt perfectly natural. Torrey Pines Dental Arts is finally ringing true - both Dr. Sherman and Dr. Cook are artists of their trade, care about their patients, and never try to pressure or "up sell" expensive procedures. Correcting this issue cost me less than $100 out of pocket and I was able to use my FSA for the expense. Wish I had done this years ago!! Background: I have been a patient of this amazing dental practice for going on 11 years now. Nancy has been my hygienist for many many years, and is so personable, is extremely thorough and gentle with my cleanings, and does an amazing job remembering the things we have talked about. It pretty impressive for someone you only see every 6 months and for less than an hour. For over a decade, this team has kept my teeth healthy and clean, resolved my 2 root canals (Forever grateful to have been in the hands of Dr. Sherman's amazingly skilled Endodontist and son, Dr. Michael Sherman), and now, located a quick and affordable way for me to improve my smile and wellbeing by filling in an annoying gap. 10/10! Just got my wisdom teeth removed and all of the staff were wonderful! Prior to getting my teeth removed, Dr. Breese made sure I was educated on what would be done to my teeth and what options are available for my choosing and comfort. This allowed me to make a confident and logical decision which resulted in a pain-free and gentle service (lasted only 30-40 mins). I was always made comfortable and they always answered any questions I had with an engaging manner. In addition, they made sure to take care of their patients by checking their temperature and making sure they check their symptoms prior to doing an appointment with them. Not only that, as a college student, there's always a fear of being overcharged or neglected due to "young age", but the receptionist and their financial advisor always consulted me and provided detailed information on pricing and any other information. All in all, great experience! We need more services like this where patients are treated with care! read more

I had my wisdom teeth extracted on March 3rd as advised by the dentists at Torrey Pines Dental Arts. I have been a patient for over a decade and have had several very complicated procedures over the years, and I have always been so happy with the quality of work and service. That all changed on March 2nd when I collapsed in the Ximed lobby of my dentist's office after coming down the elevators directly after being released from my procedure. BEWARE if you are having a serious procedure! I was advised that since I was not going under general anesthesia, I could drive myself home, which made sense because I had dental implants, a very invasive procedure and was able to drive home. That was the plan. I specifically told the assistant before the extraction that my blood pressure and heart rate typically run very low when they took a pre-procedure status so they would have a reference for after.  I remember the assistant taking my blood pressure after, and thinking it was high, but she did not comment on the numbers, and I don't think I was aware enough to question it even though it and my heart rate were elevated to numbers that were extremely high for me. I left with after surgery supplies and my purse, and I called my husband on my way down the hall because I didn't feel well. I started to feel horrible in the elevator, so I headed straight for the lobby chairs. The front desk person happened to be down in the lobby café, and I called out to him because I was starting to feel as though I was blacking out. I remember him calling up to my dentist office informing them of the situation and trying to get me some oxygen. At this point, I couldn't even open my eyes, I was so out of it, but I heard him on the phone, and after a while, when no medical professional came down, and he couldn't get anyone to bring oxygen, felt I needed immediate medical attention, even though I was trying to wait for my husband who was on his way. By the way, I learned later that NO ONE from the office EVER called my husband, who was my EMERGENCY CONTACT PERSON! Even though the dentist knew I was having a medical emergency in the lobby of the dental office building, on my way out from the procedure that Torrey Pines Dental Arts and just performed. I asked the front desk person to take me to the emergency room which was across the way on the same medical campus. At some point he managed to gain access to a wheelchair, and he took me. I didn't know what was going on and why I was sort of going in and out of consciousness. My husband frantically kept calling and texting me but since I couldn't operate my phone, he went from the ER back to the Zimed building then to the ER a second time and found me as I was being assessed in the ER. I think I completely passed out on the way from the medical building, across the plaza to the ER because I don't remember most of it, just getting to the ER doors.  The ER gave me oxygen and an IV, and I felt better within an hour, but I had no idea what was wrong, and was completely unprepared for the post procedure complications. Preface: X-rays are not necessary (only "recommended" every 3 years by dental orgs but dental offices pressure almost everyone to get them as often as the plan allows... mainly motivated by profit). I refused to get x-rays every 2 years. The hygienist says I need to ask the dentist. hygienist comes back and say you need to get them "legally" every 2 years. I said "really? legally?". hygienist starts back peddling immediately on the use of term "legally" but says that I will need to get x-rays or "you can't come back". At the end of the cleaning, the hygienist says do you want to talk to the dentist about x-rays. I say "no" because I know that the dentist will just press for x-rays and I'll just refuse and therefore I know its a pointless conversation to have and want to avoid it. hygienist gets the dentist (Terranova) anyway. Terranova tells me "if you don't agree to get x-rays, you CAN"T COME BACK". I have since changed dentist. read more

Would highly recommend this dentist. Dr Saade is really nice person, really care about his patient. He would explain things to me in detail to make sure I understand what we we're doing so I won't be too panic (I'm really scarred of dental problems). Last time I went I realized my dental insurance max out this year (due to many cavities) from the front desk staff, I was worried at that time. I talked about it with Dr Saade and every staff is really willing to help me, and he double checked my insurance to make sure it would re-new in January (2 weeks later) so I could get my teeth fixed in January with less costs. (UCSD insurance would renew differently from mine as I remembered) Really appreciate that! The many reviews here look fake to me. Some 5-star comments were made just minutes apart! They seems suspiciously clustered. In addition, 1-star reviews for this practice are routinely taken off. I had a filling put in by another dentist many years ago. I went for a routine check up and cleaning at Torrey Pines Dental Arts because somebody told me they were good. Dr. Hannah Hurley recommended replacement of the filling for reasons that I never understood since I never had issues with the filling or pain. I asked if we can just keep the filling as is but Dr. Hurley insisted it needs to be replaced. Since the replacement in September 2022, I have been having pain on the side of the filling. I cannot chew on the side of the new filling any more. To make it worse, my dental insurance did not even cover the cost of the new filling. read more

Switched here from a previous dentist who would try to sell me on extra dental cleanings or products that weren't necessary. Fortunately, I have never experienced such salesman-like behavior at Torrey Pines in the 3 or so years I've been a patient. However, I'm writing this review as I recently switched insurance plans and my hygienist did not inform me that fluoride treatment was no longer covered (nor did she check if it was) before applying. I now have an outstanding balance for treatment that I would have declined if I had the option to, but was never given the option to do so. I only found out a few weeks later when I suddenly received a statement. It would be great if they could actually inform patients of any potential treaments that are not covered by insurance BEFORE performing the procedure. read more

Dr Sherman was my dentist years ago. Got Invisalign with him in 2013. Worked great except for a tooth-poke-through-the-gum and corresponding loose tooth problem that developed toward the end. Maybe all just a coincidence but it happened. Ended up with a gum graft and splint by a periodontist. Graciously, and I believe in keeping with its "all retainers included" agreement, Dr Sherman's office gave me an Invisalign bottom retainer that my periodontist then trimmed to fit around the splint. Unfortunately when I tried again recently to get a new set of replacement invisalign retainers made to replace my now-grungy set, they (the new office folks) required my coming in for a "scan again," maybe new molds, not sure what they meant. This is a disappointing surprise; I was sure that, at worst, I'd simply need to *pay for* their making a set of retainers from my original molds/data. I haven't seen humans for over 1 1/2 years except for flu and covid shots and a handful of curbside food pickups and I'm not about to start now, so I seem to be at a dead end. Lesson learned: Make sure you find out what "Retainers are included" truly means. read more

I've been coming to Torrey Pines Dental Arts for over 2 years, but I don't see myself returning. I came in around the end of August to get a cleaning and Dr. Horne noticed that I had a cavity on a back tooth. I decided to do a follow-up appointment to get a filling done. Fillings come in either gray or white. Since the fillings I currently have are white, I went with the white. After my treatment, my estimated out-of-pocket after insurance was $50. I paid it without thinking back on it. Now November comes around and I get a blank bill in the mail for another $62 with no description of treatments or anything. I end up calling the office to figure out what's going on since I haven't been there in almost 3 months. They tell me that my insurance changed the procedure code on them and claim that they only cover gray fillings. So, I got billed for the rest. I got an estimated cost for a planned treatment and almost 3 months later they tell me "oh wait, it's actually this much and you still owe." They should have known what the insurance would cover and how much my out-of-pocket should have been. By the way, did I mention the bill was blank too? read more

My college roommate recommend Torrey Pines Dental to me almost seven years ago. It was in the Ximed Center, pretty much on the UCSD campus. I originally went for the convenient location, but after graduating I continued coming here for the attentive staff and quality service. Torrey Pines Dental is extremely tech savvy in comparison to other dental offices with their X-Ray process along with the text and email appointment reminders. The availability of 7:30am appointments on Thursday mornings allows me to get in a cleaning without eating into my workday. I no longer live near UCSD and once made the mistake of going to another dentist closer in proximity to my home. It was a horrible experience. I learned my lesson and will stick with Torrey Pines Dental for as long as I live in San Diego. read more

I went to Torrey Pines Dental Arts for probably 3-4 years. I originally liked it because the hygienist I would normally get was really nice and the dentist that I was given was really cool and his work was really good. He filled a few cavities for me and I never had issues. They did always do weird things about billing, so beware of that. For example they suggested that I do this deep gum cleaning, and then quoted that it would cost me over $600, so I said no way. A month later I get an email from them with an estimate of my bill for the same procedure, and lo-and-behold, with my insurance it actually was only $60 out of pocket. Why the big difference? The "estimate" they give you is literally just that. It is their estimate of what they think it will cost you; but they never actually run it through the insurance to verify. So if you go and they give you a massive estimate, send it back and say no, run that with my insurance and get back to me. Obviously you have time to wait as you have to agree to treatment before they begin, and you're going to be in that chair for a hot second. So I got the gum deep cleaning or whatever, it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Apparently they "normally" inject half of your mouth with an actual injectable analgesia (novacaine, carbocaine, etc.), and you come in twice so they do one side, then the other. For whatever reason, they decided that they could do my whole mouth in one go if they just used a topical analgesia along with one they can kind of squirt down into the gum. They pitched it to me and I agreed because I figured dentist once is always better than dentist twice. Stupidest idea in the world. She would put the numbing stuff in the gum, wait for it to activate by working on a different side of my mouth, then spent so much time there that by the time she went back to where the numbing stuff was put, it was already stopping working. So if they ask you to do the gum dee clean and you agree, MAKE THEM give you an injectable analgesic. Then after the gum deep cleaning say you need to be put on a more routine and deep cleaning schedule, essentially for the rest of time, so they have you come in every 4 months and you have to pay more money, if you think you can swap one for a regular cleaning like your insurance normally covers for free twice a year, it's not happening. Because it's somehow "different than a typical cleaning." Okay, I'm 32, I had braces for two years, I was a turd kid who got a lot of cavities and I have a Mom who took me to the dentist religiously, I KNOW what a cleaning feels like. These extra deep cleans (which by the way take the exact same time as the normal cleaning, and goes the exact same way and feels the exact same way), are normal cleanings. But they can charge more for the other cleanings and they are more frequent, so it seems like it all comes down to the bacon. They changed ownership during the pandemic and my dentist left, so I was given to Dr. Terranova. I met with her once and she was really nice, I didn't need any work at that time so our interaction was brief and I had no complaints. Fast forward to the following year and a couple of months ago when the back of my tooth popped off (two chunks at two times actually) and I went in to see what the problem was. They X-rayed it and decided it was just a filling that had popped off. I was stoked cause that just meant you put in another filling, bing bang boom, you're done. Well when it came to the numbing, I don't know what happened. I don't know if she was having an off day or if it's her normal style but the best way I can describe it was that she was trying to forcefully stab my ear through the inside of my cheek. My filling was on my tooth directly behind my lower left canine. Why was she back there? It was honestly so painful that my cheek was sore for the next couple of days. So my actual tooth that needs numbing is barely numb and I essentially felt the entire thing. BUT the back of my throat is so numb that it felt like I couldn't swallow for several hours and I had a mini-panic attack once I got my in car because I was convinced I couldn't swallow properly and was going to choke to death on my own spit or something. Worst dental experience of my life. Maybe three months later, I'm feeling my teeth with my tongue, HAHA!!!!, the filling is gone. After all of that, the filling lasted 3-4 months. Seriously, just go somewhere else. I'm guessing my original dentist left the practice for a good reason and I should have followed his lead. Oh well, I am now! I feel I can trust the dentists at Torrey Pines Dental Arts. Before I came here I had seen a different dentist that claimed I needed fillings on basically all of my teeth, top and bottom on both sides. I came here to get a second opinion and they said I didn't need any. In later visits I did end up needing a couple of filings but they showed me my x-rays and explained why they were recommending the fillings. I won't go anywhere else now unless I move because I realize there are dentists that will take advantage of you and recommend work you don't need in order to make money. I am glad I found a dentist I can trust. I will say that it is annoying to have to pay for parking but they at least will validate you to get a dollar off so it only ends up costing $3. Their waiting room is nice and relaxing with a water fountain and a keurig and nice music and wifi. read more

Extremely professional, efficient, and knowledgeable. HIGHLY recommend. I recently moved to San Diego and had a dental emergency and had not yet established a dentist in the area. I came across Torrey Pines Dental Arts, they fit me in as quickly as possibly and it was (by far) the best dental experience I've had. Dr. Cook made me feel comfortable and did not make me feel silly for asking questions. He also did not make me feel judged for what I was dealing with and walked me through next steps. In addition, Nancy was my hygienist and was SO sweet and kind. I had not been taking care of my teeth to the extent that I should have and she did not judge at all but instead gave me great advice that I really needed! Great svc. Great staff. Large ofc. 3 Dentists & tons of support staff, all excellent.

Normally love this place. However they've recently changed my appointment times on me day of or day before. It's hard with my work schedule.
