Breakfast review time! I've loved this little spot since I first tried their Media Noche, and finally made it in for some to-go breakfast burritos. Their hours are spotty due to a health issue in the family (our thoughts are with Rosa!), but when they're open, boy do they deliver the goods! I love me a chorizo breakfast burrito and after trying plenty around town, I stopped in here before work to try theirs out. I was greeted immediately by the owner and placed my order. In just a few minutes, I was handed these beautifully wrapped burritos. Full of flavor with perfectly cooked potatoes, wonderfully set scrambled eggs and tender chorizo, and their medium salsa still has quite a kick to it! Multiple bonuses - they're "Becki-sized" (I find it hard to finish a whole burrito in one sitting, and I was still barely able to finish this one) and the price is ridiculously low! I'll be stocking up for some staff meetings in the future to support, and to share the goodness that is Babalu's! read more

I'd like to review the recent experience of my wife and myself at Babalu's, but unfortunately we were unable to have one. We visited the place at 1:30 p.m. (well within its hours of opening), only to find that they were out of the guava pastries for which we mainly came and did not have many pastries of any kind. We then just left. This is a small place, and I'm sure that they limit their production in order to avoid waste. Our experience, however, suggests that they may be going too far in that direction. It also suggests coming here as early in their opening hours as possible. read more

I just had Babalus for lunch on a whim. I went to Flamingo boutique to check some stuff out and right next door I saw a cute storefront for food and long and behold it was Babalus (their storefront has been opened since NOV 2020). I ordered 2 empanadas ($3 each), a cuban sandwich ($10) and 2 pastelitos (one was guava and one was guava and cheese $3). It was a delicious lunch and most importantly it was authentic. I was helped by the owners Rosa and Frank. I highly recommend you get the pastelitos (I bought guava because that's the OG island flavor but there is also cherry and pineapple too) The pastry would be delicious with their coffee which is of course bustelo. Any establishment that serves Bustelo is LEGIT. This spot is just so cute and homey and the food is delicious as well. read more

To be fair my hopes were pretty high and for anyone who has never had a real deal Cubano or Media Noche this is possibly a good place to get an ok sandwich; for me however it was a let down. The bread was okay but far from authentic on both the Cubano and Media Noche, BUT the press and cut style were spot on. The meat was bland and basic lacking the signature flavor that one would expect. The pastries looked great and were fairly cheap but left me missing the fresh homemade taste of a Quesito. While the owners were less than excited to hear about it being my friend and mine's first time in and their lackluster welcome was a disappointing they did warm up towards the end of our short stay. Suffice it to say after I am currently fighting the urge to book a ticket to Tampa to get my Cuban fix. read more

This is a hidden gem. Very small and simple menu, but everything they make is excellent. If you have never tried a Cubano sandwich you need to and this is your place to go for it. And the veggie empanada was excellent, with such an excellent pastry and two authentic sauces that were amazing. We all loved our meals and will go back soon.
