I've been going here for years. To me it's the best Mexican food in Fort Collins. The Mexican Trio and the tapalpa are two of my all time favorite dishes and would highly recommend them as first tries. Other dishes such as the carne asada, molcajete and tacos are also always great. The restaurant serves good portions that's gonna fill your stomach and even sometimes in the case of the tapalpa give you some to take home for a second meal. Stayed in FOCO for a project for 10 days and came here 2 times. Service is friendly and prompt. Got seated and ordered a Cancun margarita as it doesn't have the marg mix in it. The service was terrible and the food was just ok. Our server had very poor communication skills. He got my order wrong and didn't seem to care to fix it. He made it seem like it was my fault that he got it wrong after I clearly explained what I wanted TWICE. He stayed at our table barely long enough to take our order as if he didn't want to serve us and the restaurant was not busy. Good food with bad service doesn't taste as good. After a long day of travel, we were tired, hungry and ready to call it a day. Hacienda Real to the rescue. Literally across the street from our hotel, I broke a personal rule and ordered through GrubHub. To my amazement, they got the order right. And delivered within 30 minutes. The food? Very good. And not just because we were hangry. The shrimp salad had lots of shrimp, but they skimped on the lettuce. They made up for the lack of lettuce with extra black beans and guacamole we requested. I ordered a trio of enchiladas. Each with a different filling and sauce. And to my surprise they all had individual flavors, each packed with chicken, pork & cheese & spinach. Again, very good. The cupboard was bare so we dropped into Hacienda Real for dinner. I wanted to try something new so ordered the Green Chile Chimichanga with Carnitas. My wife ordered the Ala Carte Enchilada (with sour cream). The enchilada was good albeit not great. And it didn't come with lettuce and tomatoes ... strange. My Chimi was very good and included a generous portion of Carnitas which was great as there was an up charge for the carnitas ... not for beef, chicken or pork but Carnitas was +$1.00. I guess we've reached a point in the economy where any non-standard add-on adds to the cost of dinner. The tastes of my chimi were subtle ... I was expecting a bit more of a punch. Still it was satisfying. Of course we'll go back but we'll likely be a bit more specific in our ordering, e.g., inquiring into levels of spice and toppings, etc. Not that we didn't like what we got but in today's economy with the price of eating out we want to really get what we're paying for. read more

Our group are all from Los Angeles so we are very familiar with great Mexican restaurants. This place is definitely a find, casual traditional Mexican, great drinks, and prices. So regarding chips salsa and beans, the salsa is not canned as previously reviewed and is nice with strong hints of cilantro and garlic as I love. The beans were starchy and needed salt. The chips hard and good. I had cheese enchiladas, chili relleno ( crispy style), rice beans and the green chili. NOT Kidding all were amazing and the rice, green chili, and choice of enchilada cheese were my favorites. We had a surprisingly excellent experience at Hacienda Real on Sunday night. My husband had the Colorado Burrito and I had a Lengua soft taco and a Fish soft taco. The tortilla chips that accompanied the meal were served with a delicious bean dip and a wonderful salsa. My tacos were beyond delicious, especially the fish taco that was possibly the best I've ever had. My husband loved his burrito, too. The menu has a wide variety of choices, some which are different than ones we've seen on other Mexican food menus. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is definitely a place for families. It is spacious and sports traditional Mexican decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The server, Mosme, was very courteous, helpful and friendly. The restaurant is located just off of exit 262 on I-25 on the northwest side of the highway.
