Attended a sale yesterday and found the pricing somewhat reasonable. Spotted two items I wanted but did not want to pay full price so went back the next day for half price. 5th in line. BUT there was a couple who came about 30 minutes prior to opening and loudly said we are just here to pick up our stuff from yesterday. They did not check in at the front door so I thought they probably checked in at the back. Sale opens, son goes straight for one item. As he is carrying it around the same couple claims 'they bought it 30 minutes before the sale opened'. Then she said well we will just make sure the seller doesn't let you buy it. Long story short, the seller did stand up for the rules of the sale and let us purchase the item. I am pleasantly surprised he did not side with these very obvious resellers. They should be more no professional during pre sales. Once you inquire about a piece make sure to make an appointment to see it and confirm deposit- they never told me the process eve though I told them I was buying the item, then they sold to someone else even though I was the first buyer. One star is far too kind. No pricing, no merchandising. Absolute sh*t show - and smelled like it. I pre-paid for items and they were not available when I went to pick them up. Although they posted a lot of pictures, the pictures were of poor quality and didn't show all the cracks and broken pieces. While browsing at an estate sale that Babe & Snooks was running, their team was openly making fun of the house and the tastes of the recently passed away owner--an Evanston resident of many years, a woman who died in her 90s. Those of us in the small living room all heard. I wish I had spoken up at that moment for the passed woman, whose obituary I later found and read. She was indeed a person who lived a fascinating life and was very beloved. It is a kind of honor to go into the home of someone who has passed. The remnants of their material life are still there and in some way tell a story. I believe that an estate sale company that doesn't understand and respect this--that isn't owned by or staffed with people kind enough to understand this--shouldn't be doing this work. One star is way too much. read more

They usually have decent estate sales at homes with interesting stuff. My biggest pet peeve is they slap very sticky Sold stickers on items they hold up front while you are still shopping. I didn't pay much for a chair but I didn't intend on painting it. Now thanks to the sticker stuck to the most obvious surface- I have to repaint it....I ended up peeling off paint while trying to get the sticker off. Either put a non-adhesive hold ticket on the time or buy stickers that don't damage items. read more

THE most offensive people I have seen in a long while. Was at the end of a line of about 20 people to enter the house. They only took a few at a time and we had to wait over half an hour. The lady in front of us told the gate-keeper is was pretty cold outside and he told her she should have brought a coat. Some things were marked and some were not. I asked about the price of something that was unmarked. The checkout guy made up a price, which I thought was too high. When I decided not to buy it, he called me an a**hole behind my back as I was walking away to return the item. Wish I could give them zero stars. Very unfriendly staff, rude and unwelcoming. Walked in as a toddler and their parent were walking out, and they were badmouthing the toddler calling her a "disgusting germ-ridden creature". Sold furniture was left out in the rain and their parking solution caused TWO police cars to come and dish out parking tickets. All items were dumped into boxes and loosely(if at all) organized. Sold alcohol without a proper license and gave out doughnuts that had been licked!!! I have repeatedly come to their sales, but no more. Avoid at all costs! read more

I moved out of state and thought I would sell 70% of the household, but they only sold 30%. Holding the sale for only Saturday and Sunday easy for them, but costly for the seller. The lines were blocks down the street so it was well attended. Nice people, but they don't know their pricing like they think they do... and only 2 day sale is suicide. What I made on the sale all went back to pay other people and companies to haul away the remainder. Would not recommend them to anyone:( read more

VERY rude responses when you try to email them to buy something for their online estate sale...

I "shopped" around to a lot of companies that do estate sales to help my Dad who is moving out of state. Most companies were shady at best, but Babes and Snooks was a positive experience from the very first phone call. Due to many circumstances that I don't want to bore you with, it took some time to get our estate sale officially going (almost 6 months). I want to clarify that this delay was all on us, not Babe and Snooks, but William never pressured or moved on from us during that time. Whenever I called/texted him, he got back in a timely, professional way and always felt like a partner and not an adversary. This is not an easy process for most people to go through, but Babe and Snooks really took the time and had the attention to detail to help put our whole family at ease. They sat down with my father and really walked him through the process, which is really what you want...to make sure the whole family is at ease with this type of situation. We couldn't be happier with how they handled us and themselves. They priced things properly and even added an extra day because they felt strongly they could sell more items...they were correct and the check was in the mail on Tuesday after the estate sale closed on Sunday, as promised. PS: Just talked to a friend who attended that sale and who was also accused of stealing and had to show her receipt - she tried them again and they are still behaving rudely. Then we both remembered that at this same sale, one of their employees, an older guy who was watching the line outside started shouting to the crowd of about 50 frustrated people that we were "going to wish our mothers had abortions!" to the gasps of many people. I've gone to two or more of their estate sales so far. Compared to the other estate sales I've been to, they seem a little more reasonable in their pricing, especially because they discount items as time goes on. It helps to ask when you arrive when prices will be lowered if you're bargain hunting. One problem that's shared with nearly all other estate sales that I've been to is that they're understaffed and only one or two people are able to determine prices. This can result in long lines and wasted time, especially on the first day, when many items are priced higher than they would be at thrift stores. Based on their listings, they do a good job of taking photos. Some estate sales only list a few, while this company lists dozens, if not hundreds of photos. Having all these photos to browse ahead of time makes it easy to determine if an estate sale is worth attending and to know what to aim for when I arrive. read more

Was at an estate sale today on Marcy in Evanston conducted by babes and snooks. I always check out jewelry first and found two brooches I liked. The brooches had all been priced at 6.00 each. Not wanting to walk around with jewelry I gave the brooches to one of the workers to hold for me until I finished shopping. (Older guy who was also taking cash). He put them in his apron pocket to hold. When I returned to pay and he took them out of his pocket he asked me if the one was gold. I told him I didn't know but it was with the brooches that he had earlier directed me to earlier. These were hanging on a wall in a plastic jewelry holder. All priced at 6.00. He then told me he wasnt going to sell it but I could buy the other brooch. I reminded him that it was in the brooches that were priced already, but apparently that wasn't significant as it went back into his pocket. If you or whoever works for your company prices something I would expect you to honor that price not decide you didn't want to sell it at the time someone was going to purchase it. Didn't bother purchasing the other brooch he was going to allow? Me to buy and won't be going to any more of their sales. read more

Went to an estate sale that my old neighbor was having that these guys ran. Completely ridiculous how rude the staff was. I had placed items to the side to purchase and when I picked them up the guy asked me, very rudely, if I paid for them. Well I WAS on my way to the line to pay for them when he stopped me. Then I get in line with about 3 people ahead of us and he starts to berate me and the woman in front of us as to where the line starts. Well hang a sign, how do we know. I left everything I was about to purchase on a table and walked home. Not worth spending my money with people so ignorant and clearly bad with customer service. I attended my last Babe & Snooks estate sale today. Regrettably, I had gone to many of their sales and purchased hundreds, if not a few thousand dollars worth of items over the last two years and thought they were one of the better companies. I would really like to give them a zero rating based on today's sale. I have always felt that I had a fair opportunity at their sales to find items and purchase them. I attend many sales and there is always a risk that an item I am interested in has already been purchased - that's part of the hunt. As a collector, I especially like to buy items at a discount. Their website for the 12/23 sale included quite a few crystal items I was interested in and decided to check out the sale. After a 30 minute drive I got to the sale about 9:30 and got in line. When the sale opened at 10:00 they allowed about 25 people to enter including me. They had created a 'Treasures Room' and only allowed 3 people to shop at a time. The first 3 people went in and I ended up as the third person waiting to enter. Two of the people were looking at jewelry while the 3rd person was buying crystal items. I waited about twenty minutes as I watched the one woman and her partner, who was elsewhere in the house, take dozens of pieces including those I was interested in. I'm fairly certain these two were resellers or worse insiders. At that point all the items I was interested in were gone so I left and went home. BTW, the two people buying jewelry and the woman buying crystal were still there when I left. I can understand limiting access for safety reasons, but is it fair to do so without consideration for the rest of your regular buyers. Why didn't you impose a time limit (possibly 5 minutes) or a maximum number of pieces (maybe 10~12) while other people were waiting to have a chance to make a purchase? Your policy created anything but a level playing field. In any event, I prefer to attend sales where I have a fair chance at success, Babe & Snooks is no longer one of those estate sale companies. read more

i recently had to clear out an apartment that was NOT from an untimely death of elderly relative or the regular reason one approaches their company. I reached out and was contacted back in a professional and timely manner. Although they could not provide the specific services I needed they were able to immediately refer me to a guy who they work with to do clean out. Really appreciated how helpful and prompt they were. Definitely going to refer them to anyone with estate sale needs in the future! read more

Completely agree with the review that says these people are rude! They are completely unprofessional! I just wasted 30 minutes waiting in line to get into an estate sale run by Babe & Snooks. Most professional estate sale companies will watch the door when they are busy and let people in as people leave, but the guy at Babe and Snooks made everyone wait out in the cold/rain and wasn't paying attention to who was leaving. He acted like the sale was a cocktail party, mingling and chatting with people while potential customers stand outside in the cold. When he finally did come to the door after 20 minutes he said nobody could come-in. Several angry folks pointed-out that many people had come out already, then he went into a very sensational explanation about how he had six people in line bla bla bla... Myself and several others just left in disgust. Do yourself a favor- go to one of their sales before you hire them to run your estate sale and watch how they treat potential customers. I would have been furious if I hired them to run my sale and saw how poorly they treated would-be customers. read more

This guy is very rude and erratic. He makes you (the buyer) jump through all types of hoops then tells you to go away. His system is designed to work for the insiders (his friends and the dealers) and exclude the general public. He keeps referring to his rules about online sales but they aren't available. He does not care, you are not following his rules. Stand in line for the left overs in two days. Read his line rules they are posted on the website. Bring your pee bottle. read more
