It's been a couple years since my last appointment here. I had a change in insurance and when I booked the appointment over a month ago I mentioned on the phone that it would be through Medicaid. I made sure before calling on the site for the vision coverage that they were covered. On there it clearly has them listed. Anyways I got the appointment scheduled. When I arrived on time today I was told that they don't accept the medic aid vision insurance. I'm very disappointed that they did not inform me of this when I set up the appointment nor prior to the appointment. It was very unprofessional. I don't appreciate my time and gas being wasted like that. I definitely will not be returning after that experience. read more

I was completely blown away today when I called and the receptionist told me that I would need a referral from a current patient at this doctors office. I am a brand new resident here in Albuquerque and how would I know of someone that goes to this optometrist? I used Yelp because I really had nowhere else to turn. She said that they are not taking new patients because they're booking so far out in advance. I'm completely used to that with my prior optometrist. Very interesting how they conduct their business and qualifying people here in Albuquerque. read more

Dr. Babington worked with my problematic eyes to help me get into the best possible contact lens to help my vision improve. I am both nearsighted and have aging eyes which now require reading glasses. He managed to find a set of contact lenses that would handle both scenarios beautifully. Just had a bad experience with a young woman technician at this optician's office. The optician was nice and polite. The woman who greeted us was kind and pleasant. But we were assigned to an abrupt and unkind woman who was obtuse and didn't explain the forms we needed to sign. Beware of this young woman. She may require a customer service refresher. We tried to get glasses for my mother (elderly and hard of hearing). The woman was not patient with her patients. As I worked in a related industry and understand the frames and sizing, She suggested frames far too small. We moved to the next set of slightly larger frames. She walked away and said to let her know we needed help. We selected 3 frames as possibilities. She asked if we wanted all 3. We said no but we'd like them priced out in order to make the right selection. But she immediately shifted to forms to sign without explanation. These forms, including release of information and waivers of rights all make for a moment of pause. While many of them may be industry standards, the release of information was for any future encounters. But we are dealing with the office directly. We brought the prescription. We just need to order. The form was left blank for release of information to other entities. She insisted that the signature was required. It contained SSN, email, and residence info. The frame and lens company would ship directly to the optician and we would pick up from them. There was no one else to give this information. It was uncomfortable and her display of rigidness was enough. We thanked and informed the optician and receptionist then left. Unfortunately, we'll seek kinder technician services. read more

I have come here for years , I like the doctor. He cares about your eye health. He has always helped me with contact and vision exams. This year I said maybe I'll order my glasses here also, usually I go to Costco. When I started to look the lady came over and asked if I needed help. I told her yes and she asked about my insurance. The young man that just did my vision payment brought her my insurance sheet she glanced and said you have "Spectera, that is not good insurance ". That just made me say to myself, okay can't get classes here. She continued to say my insurance is very bad, her words. I was looking at Oakley frames and she said your insurance will not cover Oakley, you have spectera. I told her I have had the same insurance for years and didn't know it was bad. I told her I guess I am going back to Costco. I asked her are you sure my insurance is that bad. She said, yes, spectera does not cover many things. At Costco the guy said my insurance covers a lot of things why she would say it was bad he did not know. I will continue to go here for exam but will always go somewhere else to get glasses and contacts read more

I had a very bad personal day today that culminated in my glasses getting broken and having no vision. It's 3p and everything closes in 2 hours. I'm calling all over, I have to get something I have no vision except super up close. Dr Bapington's office was so kind, and the assistant put me on hold, spoke to the dr, who agreed to squeeze me in last minute as long as I was willing to wait for after the final scheduled appointment of the day. I'm transgender and navigating new medical care can be difficult and triggery at times. While I had to use my legal name attached to my insurance, the assistant was savvy enough to pick up the fact that I'm trans and offered to use proper pronouns, add my preferred name to my profile, and informed the staff. This was so kind and having such a rough day, this really softened things for me. Dr Babington was super kind, funny, and efficient. He had a trial box of contacts for me to try and wear to make sure they were a good fit before I ordered them. He gave honest advice about product options, and personally escorted me back to the front desk to communicate check out details to the guy at the counter. I'm new to ABQ having only settled in a year and a half ago. I will never go anywhere else. read more

Best experience I've ever had for getting a new contact prescription. The staff are amazing, knowledgeable, kind, and professional! I also got a glasses prescription but mainly came in for contacts. They gave me trials then and there at the office and allowed me to make adjustments without feeling pressured to just leave with what I received. I haven't ever actually had Dr Babington for an optometrist but I wanted to leave a review of an AMAZING experience that I just had with him. Our 18mo old daughter got some kind of foreign object in her right eye at a park on a Saturday. We don't know what it was or how it happened, but it was something severe and very painful. She was inconsolable and was in significant pain for several hours. She also refused to open her right eye at all for nearly 8hrs. We took her to after hours urgent care and they diagnosed her with a minor corneal abrasion and prescribed antibiotic drops. My wife and I were quite scared and and extremely stressed that her cornea was damaged and we really wanted the opinion of an eye specialist to make sure that there was nothing else we could do. The only after hours emergency eye care that we could find in all of Abq and Rio Rancho was Dr Babington. So I called the after hours emergency number at about 9pm that night (again, this is on a _Saturday_) and there wasn't an immediate answer but I left a voicemail describing the situation. I will be honest, I did not expect to ever get a call back. But to our absolute astonishment we got a call back within 15min and it was Dr Babington himself (yeah, really) and he actually apologized for not immediately answering when I first called because he didn't hear the phone ring - say what?? (A doctor who I never met and has no idea who I am is apologizing for not answering a random call on a Saturday night at 9pm?? Really? Haha. Crazy cool!! Who is this guy???) Anyway, he asked a lot of questions about the injury and gave us a lot of awesome feedback and really put both myself and my wife at ease and we were no longer stressed about our daughter. He even offered to go to his office that night and examine her (yeah, really) but he didn't think it was really necessary (and I agreed after he explained more about the eye and what the injury was). We are so impressed with Dr Babington that my wife and I are kind of speechless about this guy. He is seriously too awesome. Thank you so much for helping us Dr. Babington!!!!!! Our daughter is doing much better now. While Dr Babington is not currently our optometrist my wife and I are going to look into changing that in the very near future!! read more
