I was SO happy when they started accepting my insurance again. I had to use 3 other optometrists after initially using Dr. Lavoie and I was disappointed each time (rude, overpriced and terrible glasses). I've come to the conclusion that the best way to evaluate an optometrist practice has little to do with the examination itself, and far more to do with the closing sale. I'm sure there are some not-so-great eye doctors, but most can get the job done. The real profit in the business is the hardware they're selling, and the art of the sale is critical. I ended up leaving my neighborhood franchise office because of the unnecessary bells and whistles I was pressured to buy, and I'm glad I checked out Precision Eye Center. My appointment with Dr. Zobel and his associate was efficient and friendly. When it came to buying new frames, I think the question I asked was, "So if I only need some solid reading glasses, does it make sense for me to drop $200-300 on frames, or should I just pick up some cheapies at Walgreens? Can you check on what my insurance covers?" Ten minutes later she answered my questions, noting that I had decent coverage on lenses -- which really didn't matter, for me. She then showed me a great online company that carried the kind of frames I was hoping to find, at moderate prices. I chose what I wanted, they ordered several styles, and I'm choosing my favorite when they arrive over the next few days. Customer service, yo. read more

I'm tired of this place. Aside from their costs being on the high side, every single time I go there I have to wait and wait and wait. Today I waited 20 minutes after my appointment time and there was no sign of me getting in there anytime soon. I was told, "We're just waiting for a room to open up." Really?! Who exactly controls the flow of patients? Oh yeah. You do! Unbelievable with their ridiculous excuses. They have no respect for the patients time. And this was evident pre-COVID as well! Don't go there if you intend to use any sort of insurance. Sure, these guys are super nice. However, my ~only~ question of them before I agreed to an appointment was whether or not they took my insurance. 'Sure--no problem!' It turns out that either they were lying or they just don't know that much about insurance. I ended up paying full price for my glasses, and eight months later they are sending me a new bill for the exam. NOT COOL! This whole thing should have cost me only $200 out-of-pocket. Instead, they are trying to get ~ $800 for the same service. I'm a retired senior citizen. I live on a fixed income. That's NOT COOL! Top-Shelf Customer service. Being new to the whole "eye-glass" wearing scene, not knowing how to wear them or even what to expect...they patiently walked me through each and every step...and i mean Patiently. From my initial eye exam, to the consultation with the Doc, to the fitting with Claire...every experience was treated with care and grace. Additionally, after my initial fitting, i ended not liking the way the fields were placed on my lenses...this however was only due to the funny way i prefer to wear my eye glasses...so, this was completely my fault. That said, and even after having these new glasses for almost two months, they had me back in, no questions asked and refitted me for new lenses...who does that???? Amazing. I came here through my insurance from work.. the doctor himself was very nice and efficient but the staff running the front were terrible.. I understand being understaffed and everything of the sort but not answering the phone hours before close (the place isn't that busy), not getting a call back for weeks, and then giving me the WRONG prescription and making me wait weeks to get the right ones. THEN having the audacity to say "sorry" with a Starbucks gift card for 5 whole fucking dollars. I honestly don't know how the doctor is ok with the girls in the front just not caring at all. read more

I found this place through my vision insurance plan. Stopped by to make an appointment and found the place to have a nice set up, kind of limited on frames but thought I could make it work. The appointment arrived and it went fine. They wanted to schedule a special retina exam due to my diabetes, so I made the appointment during my initial eye exam. A week or so before this appointment they called to reschedule me because the Dr. had to be out of town. No problem.. we reschedule and the day before this appointment they call to reschedule because of a staff shortage. I told them I'd call back to reschedule something else. Fast forward to February 2023, I was having a non-urgent issue, so I called and left a voice mail to set up an appointment. No call back after 3 days, so I searched my insurance plan again and a new Dr. I found one who had a reasonable appointment available and not too far out. a WEEK later Precision Eye called me back and they said "Do you still need an appointment" No apologies for calling back a week after my call. I just told them I found another Dr. I kid you not, the response I got was "Perfect, is there anything else you need from us". They DO NOT CARE! So done with them. If you still go there... Outstanding customer service skills with all the staff. Eye Masters called me Monday telling me they had to postpone my appointment for 40 days. I said unexceptionable just because they knew I was a veteran using VA they could just blow me off. My wife uses Precision & loves this place. I decided to use them myself & just use wife's insurance. When I called explaining my eyes were hurting & was very flexible on time. Matty told me she had a cancellation Friday only 3 days away. I jump on it. Very professional staff, Doctor was great, selection of eye glasses great, & staff were all dressed in fun holiday fashion. My cowboy hat had lights & antlers so I fit right in. I have never been so pressured to purchase daily contacts in my life. The doctor refuses to give me a prescription I can use to purchase monthly contacts and forcing onto me a higher prescription that requires more expensive contacts. I will not recommend this doctor to anyone. read more

Pick a different eye specialist! I have VS P which covers the cost of the exam and prescription. This place then asks for your regular insurance information, makes up a diagnosis of allergies since almost everyone in New Mexico has some evidence of allergies. So they charge VS P and they charge your medical insurance for something you never asked for in the first place. Very expensive for the glasses, they didn't even hold up and They don't stand behind their products. The other review really seems like a paid advertisement or employee or friend or family when I read it. I've moved on, looking for someone with a better ethical and quality fit for my choice. read more

What's better than a friendly French Canadian eye doctor with cool gadgets and a trendy office? Nothing really. Dr. Rob Lavoie is just that...you had me at friendly Canadian. The shop is in the area of the Flying Star on Paseo and boasts hip glasses, new designs and state of the art eye exam equipment. He has a cool camera that he uses to take pictures of your eyes real up close and then displays them for you to see and for him to see super up close. The typical eye charts aren't typical at all, they are Apple monitors displaying the tiny little letters I can never see. Of course there's the puffy thing for your eyes that everyone hates, but you can't get away from that. Overall the staff, location and office is awesome. I've been coming to Dr. Lavoie for 6 years and he's really helped me with my eye health, treating my awful astigmatism, dry eye, and ever changing prescription. Come check it out! read more

The people were friendly and helpful, but it was ridiculously expensive. With our insurance it cost $120 for an eye exam, and that is not including the the $39 retinol imaging I paid for separately. Furthermore, we didn't get an invoice until 6 months after service- who does that? The children's glasses they recommended were $175 (we went with Zenni, not them) No thanks. Not pleased. I had my eyes rechecked since my old Costco Rx was 3 years old. My new Rx was much different on the left eye than before. The glasses came back very blurry on the left eye, so they just dialed back the strength a bit and made new lenses. The doc was annoyed when I asked that he recheck my eyes. The replacement lenses were slightly less blurry, but still off, on the angle of the astigmatism. I went back to Costco, where I had been before, and found out the left eye is only slightly different than 3 years ago. Not only did I blow through four pairs of useless lenses from Precision, they also sold me blue light lenses, that I did not ask for. In the future, I'll stick with the more reliable Costco prescriptions, and then use my Rx to shop around for nicer frames. The staff was very nice, but the doc attitude is very arrogant. read more

Terrible with Children My 8YO daughter and I have been here twice for two annual exams. I appreciate that they are thorough with the exams and that they don't overcharge for tests, glasses, or contacts like almost every other place. The front desk staff are really nice. In spite of that, I can't get over how they treat my child. The woman that does the eye tests is terrible with children. I don't know her name, but I'm guessing from similar reviews that it's Jennifer, so I'll refer to her as "Jennifer" for the rest of my review. "Jennifer's" behavior towards my child has traumatized her and she's terrified to go for eye exams now. "Jennifer" is extremely impatient and dismissive, ignoring my child as she cries her eyes out. On our first visit she took no time to explain or warn my child about the air puff test, which resulted in my daughter now being terrified of eye exams and unable to trust anyone at this clinic. This last time we waited for forty minutes past our appointment time and then we were rushed through. My daughter was trying so hard to be brave. She asked twice for another chance to try the air puff machine. "Jennifer" goes, "Too late. We're moving on." While I was checking out at the front desk, after our appointment, "Jennifer" tried to engage my child in a conversation about pet dogs. My normally outgoing daughter was not receptive. I appreciated the gesture, but it left me wondering why my kid had to be rushed through in the first place. I would have preferred that she use her spare time to give my daughter another chance with the air puff test or see if she had any questions about the eye testing machines. All my daughter needs is one time where she feels in control and she'll stop resisting that test in future visits. At both appointments I kept thinking that surely Dr. Lavoie would be good with children since he apparently has some of his own, but even he pulled an annoyed face when my daughter tried to ask a question. I really miss our previous eye doctor, who isn't on my new insurance plan. He has young kids and was always so kind and patient with my daughter. Maybe it's worth paying out of pocket so we can go back to his office instead. read more

I took my son in for an eye exam and new pair of glasses for a Christmas present. We were called back by Jennifer to do the pre-exam. Jennifer is extremely rude and unprofessional. She didn't say hello, good morning, or any greeting at all. She was very short when speaking with us. I told her good morning how are you, and was completely ignored by her. She then kept telling my son to move back over and over, so he kept leaning his body back. She must of not meant his body because she became irritated, grunted and rolled her eyes. Then Jennifer put her hand with a clorox wipe right in front of my son's face to clean the machine. At this point I was done allowing her to treat my son and I so poorly. She made us feel extremely uncomfortable so I ended the procedure. The lady at the front desk apologized and asked us to stay and she would do his pre-exam. Because I took off work and he school, we stayed and finished the exam. Dr. Lavoie came in and I wanted him to know how badly Jennifer treated us as she represents him and his business. He was also short and didn't seem to care much about how we were treated. He said I have already been made fully aware that you are not happy. Not happy?!? I told him it wasn't that we were unhappy but that we were treated very poorly. No wonder Jennifer treats patients so badly. I will never return to this place again and wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy! Also, the other reviews are right on how they try to bill both your vision and health insurance. If you want quality service and to be treated kindly, STAY AWAY from this vision center, Dr. Lavoie, and grouchy Jennifer!!! read more

Dr. Lavoie and his staff are AMAZING! He is so friendly and down to earth, and so are his staff. They are not pushy at all and seem genuinely concerned about the health and comfort of your eyes. Dr. Lavoie helps treat my dry eyes and acute near-sightedness. His staff does great work on glasses and sunglasses.
