This is the first review I've written sans reading glasses in, oh, easily five years. I had surgery yesterday. When you enter Dr. Coleman's office, the first thing you'll peruse as you enjoy an audio introduction to the company are plaques and photos of the various local and national celebrities, athletes, politicians and public figures who've enjoyed vision correction at the office. The list is extensive, and it's a comfort being aware that, just like any surgery, there are complications and side effects for a very small percentage of patients. I was certainly concerned. My initial, free consultation determined that I wasn't eligible for the surgery -- yet. I was told that I still had strong long distance vision and I would have to wait until that deteriorated to be a candidate. Low and behold, about a year later my optometrist said I should consider bifocals, so I set up a second consultation with Dr. Coleman and (cue the harp music) I was ready. The surgery itself lasted all of maybe ten minutes and was hardly uncomfortable. The waiting room resembled a cocktail lounge and -- note to staff -- I would've loved a pre-surgery gimlet. Staff across the board were knowledgeable, friendly and on the ball. Dr. Coleman was a straight shooter with a great sense of humor. All patients need someone to drive them home post surgery, however the office is located right next to a hotel, in case that isn't possible. If you're on the fence, but you can even negligibly afford LASIK, ask yourself what the next 20 years of clear vision are worth to you. I first got lasik from Dr. Coleman about 15 years ago. The first round was not successful and I had to get another procedure to get the job done right. It was not pleasant, but Dr. Coleman was willing to correct the problem without charging me again. After about 10 years my vision continued to get worse. Well the decision of getting LASIK was one of the best ones I've made in my life. Now my vision is 20/20, before I had to wear glasses and looked freaking dorky and nerdy not that there's anything wrong with those types of personalities. I embrace them. The consultation was free of charge, it was long one so be sure you have about 2 hours or so and ask them a lot of questions. He is very nice and personable. His sister who's the business manger was professional and accommodating. The procedure was little to pain free. You come in and they do what they do and voila 24 hours later your eye sights are perfect again. Just don't do what I did, I misheard and took 2 sleeping pills instead of one so they kinda had to basically carry me into the procedural room rather than most patients who can walk in on their own. Also kinda nice since they do ask you to come back periodically to check your eyes and make sure the procedure was successfully performed. After being blind as a bat for over 20 years I decided to spring for LASIK, but I wasn't sure who to go to. I was really nervous about LASIK. I was afraid something horrible would happen and I'd go blind, or my eyeballs would burn up in a blaze of glory as the laser zapped the shit out of them. I spent a lot of time researching LASIK providers. Many providers were offering discounts, and great deals: 2 eyes for $3000, get 1 eye lasered get the 2nd half off. From a financial stand point these other providers were very enticing, but I didn't feel quite safe with them. After scouring the internet I came across Dr. Coleman's website, and some videos demonstrating the procedure. I also read reviews from former patients of his; all were positive. The guy seemed totally legit, so I set up an appointment for a free consultation. At this point I wanted to know if it was even possible to perform LASIK on my old lady eyes. I half believed my eye sight was so bad that I'd get turned away. The consult was about 45 minutes in length. Dr. Coleman's wonderful staff did the requisite tests to make sure I would be a good candidate, and Dr. Coleman reviewed the results. Lo and behold, I was a good candidate after all! We went ahead and set up my surgery early in 2012. I used the remaining balance in my FLEX account to pay half in 2011, and the rest was paid via FLEX at the start of the next calendar year. The surgery itself was a lot easier than I had anticipated. The longest part is waiting for the xanax to kick in. Once I was good and relaxed they seated me in the operating room, and the surgery itself was over with in 10 minutes. In 10 minutes my life was totally changed--I was able to see without the aide of glasses or contacts! In fact, the first words out of my mouth after the surgery were, "HOLY SHIT I CAN SEE THAT!!!" Truly an amazing experience. I have had 20/15 vision since Jan of 2012 when I underwent the LASIK procedure. I still get annual check ups just to make sure my eyes are healthy, and sometimes I use reading glasses when my eyes are tired. But most of the time, like 98% of the time, I have better than perfect vision. Dr. Coleman is amazing. He really knows his stuff, he's friendly, laid back, is absolutely concerned about the well being of the patient and what is right FOR the patient. And all of Dr. Coleman's staff are equally friendly, patient, and caring. LASIK was worth every single penny to me. Where to start...You can't exactly compare something like LASIK because you only get it done once and I'm assuming with only one doctor. With that said, I will create my review based upon my expectations before I got this done and with my results afterwards. I've had glasses and/or contacts since 2nd grade. I have no memories of being able to see without some sort of lens to correct my vision. For well over a decade I've known that I wanted to get LASIK but was never in the right financial situation to make it happen. Now that I'm almost in my 30's (29 to be exact) I am finally in a spot where LASIK is a possibility. After mentioning my intentions to my optometrist, he said he really only referred people to a couple doctors, Coleman being one of them. This fit nicely with what I had heard at work, since many of my coworkers have gone to Coleman with excellent results. It seemed the stars were finally aligning. I wasn't going to let this slip away again like I had done in the past. So, after setting up some pre-op appointments with my optometrist and having those results sent to Coleman, I was invited to Coleman's office for the final evaluation where thankfully he thought I would be an excellent candidate. I am beyond excited at this point, this is finally happening! The scheduling for the procedures is on Wednesdays and Fridays and it just so happened that I was free that following Friday so game on! I was excited all week and admittedly nervous as well, and I didn't know why. I knew Coleman was one of the best in the country and I was going to be just fine but I guess it's that "Fight or Flight" wiring in all of us that just makes you nervous no matter what. Let's skip ahead to the morning of the procedure. I knew this was going to happen and I knew I would love it so here we go...I get to the office early in the morning and the hospitality is already shining. Everyone in his office was incredibly kind during my pre-op testing and it was on display now as well. My sister-in-law, who later picked me up from the office, said it best when she said that the office and the people in it create a "zen-like" atmosphere. Their goal is to make you comfortable because they understand how important this is to you. I finished the paperwork and made the payment (okay, now it's DEFINITELY happening!) and eventually got in my comfy chair and took my relaxation Xanax pill (Yeah buddy!) and chilled out. I'm playing with my phone and doing my thing and then one of the kind ladies brings me into the operation room. I call it the operation room because I don't know what else to call it, it's actually very cool. A window overlooking the mountains is the full length of the wall, and the laser machine is right in the middle where you lay down. Dr. Coleman helps ease you down and puts some last minute drops in and then gives you a quick pep talk and explains some stuff. (This next part goes so fast but I'll try to remember) The first laser makes the flap on your eye and is completely painless. It's done in seconds so that's pretty easy. Next, the other laser makes the actual prescription change in your eye and the results are instant. Dr Coleman makes this entire process so relaxing by continually talking you through each step and letting you know how much longer each part is. It's hard to put into words how amazing the feeling is to be able to see finally without glasses or contacts. The entire procedure for both eyes takes less than 5 minutes and then I was eased up from the table with everyone smiling at me and happy. You feel like you just won the lottery. You've just beat evolution, essentially, and can now live a life without the constant leash of vision impairment. My sister-in-law took me from the office that day and I used my drops as prescribed and was able to be pretty normal later that evening after a good solid nap. My results were fantastic and if you're a good candidate you'll have fantastic results too. I told my wife this is the 2nd best decision I ever made, next to her of course. I had Lasik almost five years ago with Dr. Coleman just after returning from my first semester of college.
