This was my first birth, and it was the best healthcare experience I've ever had. At first, my husband was a little hesitant (let's be honest so was I) but we both quickly realized the professionalism and great competence of the nurse midwives after seeing them react perfectly when I passed out during a blood drawing at one of my first appointments. After I gave birth, my husband told me he was brought to tears by witnessing the power of women coming around each other during labor. My first appointment was virtual, and Alys answered every single question and concern I had about their safety protocols and their statistics on transfer rates with confidence. I asked all of the hard questions and was impressed by their protocols. Around six weeks, I thought I was having a miscarriage and Emily answered my frantic call to the birth center. She was the most compassionate and calming person and walked me through that. She got me an appointment the very next day to ensure everything was okay with the baby. I failed my first gestational diabetes test, and had to do the second test that had four blood drawings. I got to lay in one of the king-size beds in one of the birthing suites. I got to take a nap in the bed And I felt like I was in a hotel room. During my actual labor and delivery, It was way harder than I thought it would be. But having the fortune of laboring in a space, that was so comforting and personalized it made a big difference. I would not have made it without my personal Doula or the nitrous oxide(!!) they provided at the Birth Center. My daughter had the cord wrapped around her neck, and Melan acted swiftly to somersault her so that she wasn't hurt. I had a second-degree tear and Melan stitched me perfectly. After birth, my daughter needed some extra monitoring at Vanderbilt, and Jenissa personally walked us into the hospital and got a situated in our room with the nurse at the Vanderbilt Hospital. Never once did I feel shame for my weight, for any questions that I had, or feeling like I was imposing. At every step of the way, I was empowered, encouraged and taken care of with the utmost care. I relied on the nurse midwives to help me come up with a birth plan, and take care of myself and my baby with evidence-based statistics. I am so grateful for every single interaction I had at the Vanderbilt Birth Center and I wish Every woman had the opportunity to experience a tender, loving, professional care I received here. I had my first baby through Baby and Co when the transition to the Vanderbilt Birthing Center was first happening and have now been at the Vanderbilt Birthing Center for my second pregnancy as well. I am so torn since I love the idea of the birth center and having a nautral birth. However, the process there feels so systematic now and I feel like I was treated like a statistic than a person. Also, there are midwives on call, but you have to go through a call center to get to a midwife and I have never been able to get anyone on the phone. They always need to call back hours or days later. It is frustrating to not be able to talk to an actual person who can talk and having to give your personal information over and over again. Overall, I do not feel like they provided the help needed at crucial times for me. I would recommend going elsewhere for more hands on care and for someone more in tune with your needs. Pros: I love how supportive they were when I needed to have my blood drawn. They have aromatherapy and encouraging nurses. The birthing rooms feel like home and have a lot of nice things to use to help aid giving birth. There classes are also very informative. Cons: Gave misinformation numerous times and didn't bother reading my file on my first pregnancy when I came in pregnant again. My first pregnancy was a bit traumatic (leading to a hospital transfer and forceps) and I feel like they could have handled the matter more delicately. They also have much stricter rules about COVID than most doctor's offices. (Need to wait outside until someone comes to your car and takes your temp.. No one allowed in for appointments with you, etc) They have a very high transfer rate to the hospital and it is a little scary needing to get in a car and have your husband drive you to the hospital mid delivery. read more

Baby+Co went above and beyond and provided the WOW factor during my prenatal and birth experiences. As a first time mom, I felt supported, listened to and cared for. I would highly recommend B+C and will glady birth there again with any subsequent children. The space is truly luxurious and modern. It's where babies are born, not where people go when they are sick/dying. To me, that makes so much of a difference in the energy of the space. All of the staff were patient, listened and offered options during prenatal care and birth and that was so empowering. I labored at home for some time before going to the birth center, and I distinctly remember feeling pampered and more capable when I arrived. The comfort measures provided were so helpful and truly helped me cope. I was able to deliver naturally--just as I wanted, although they offer many options, including a hospital birth attended to by a physician, if that is more your jam. The postpartum care in phenomenal. They sent a midwife to my home the day after I returned home. She was knowledgeable and reassuring after our first night alone as parents. B+C also had a community of other mothers that helped with meals and support, since my husband had to start traveling for work less than a week after our son's birth. That was above and beyond!!! They offer a New Mom's class called Thrive, that was so crucial in those first few months. They have continued to wow me and my son is 18 months. LOVE THIS COMMUNITY! Highly recommend! read more

Want to feel like a freaking pregnancy goddess and have a birth suite worthy of the queen of England while getting some of the kindest, most professional, and loving care ever?? You have found the place!!! My entire pregnancy was comforting, easy, and all my crazy questions and concerns put to ease at baby and co!! My labor was a BREEZE. And I did it natural with no one trying to ever change my mind, only an overflow of encouragement, assistance and support from the nurses and midwife. Craziness thing, my midwife was 38 weeks pregnant when she delivered my PERFECT baby girl!! Still not sold?? Two word: HOT BATH. I got to soak in a beautiful freestanding tub (I even could give birth there!!) that had steaming hot water that was a dreaaaam for my contractions!! When I posted photos people couldn't believe the beautiful birth suite!! And I had almost every single one of my appointments there, too! Seriously this place put me at ease and I wanted to give birth there!! I was so excited to go into labor (to meet my girl, duh) but to spent time in the birth suite! I felt like the queen of England!! Their birth classes or my fears of labor at ease and empowered me to have an amazing birth experience. I can't wait to go back for baby #2!! Margaret delivered my second baby. She decided to arrive with a quick entrance. The baby+co staff made my envisioned waterbirth delivery a dream come true. Margaret and her staff worked with me to ensure that I had a natural and beautiful delivery. They were amazing with my toddler,even allowing her to be included through almost every stage, and husband. The birth of my second was so healing and amazing. I loved the experience we had at Baby and Co. They were all so sweet and created a wonderful birthing experience. I am pregnant again and am so excited to be able to birth again. I was able to do a water birth and it went wonderfully. I don't even know where to begin to express how much I loved my Baby + Co experience & I didn't even get to deliver! I have to say that from the tour & my very first appointment, I felt at home. Every single midwife was amazing. The continuity of care was impressive & I never had to repeat things from prior appointments to different midwives. The classes are so informative & you form such a bond with the other mommies. I started my labor at Baby + Co, but had to be transferred to Vanderbilt due to my baby being comfy on the inside after my membranes ruptured. The transfer was seamless! What a life changing experience ! Baby & Co. was so empowering versus institutionalizing. It truly embraces the power a woman holds with in her to experience the phenomenon of birthing a human all naturally. From my initial prenatal appointment ( starting syncing 9.5 weeks), the Birth education classes, to labor and delivery - everything was top notch. First - I am a cash patient. If you are a cash patient as well, I will advise you that at each appointment where they take a urine sample, swab you, draw blood, do your glucose test , etc. you will be billed separately for those labs. However, they do a great job of outlining the cost of your labor and delivery, birth education classes, and other prenatal care. They break it down for you in to 3-4 Payments to make it easier. Second - At each of my prenatal appointments I met a different midwife or nurse to get familiar with everyone working there. I found that to be particularly relaxing knowing I wouldn't see a complete stranger when I walked in to give birth. Every single NMW & RN I met with took as much time as I needed to address questions, concerns, my plans, etc. They were all professional, kind and honest. I say honest because sometimes there were things i didn't want to hear, but i respect that they had honesty and integrity to work through situations WITH me. I never felt like they were against me. NMW Margaret was still an advocate for me even when I made it tough ! Lol. Third - the birth education classes ALONE were enough to make me want to deliver there!! They are incredible. It's SO important to be informed and to know what to expect (as much as you can). The information my husband and i learned is immeasurable when it came to being prepared for laboring, birth and a newborn. Birth educator Heather Price will transform your mind and expectations when it comes to birth and your experience will be better because if it. Fourth - when i arrived at the birth center i was greeted with a smile and a huge hug from Heather Sevciek. That was exactly what we (my husband and I) needed. We felt safe and cared for the second i arrived. We went to the birth center when my contractions were 4 minutes apart and lasting over an hour. But when i got there i was only dilated to a 3! I was so nervous i was going to be sent home and that was not the case. I was immediately told to relax in a warm bath and from then on they let me labor on my own. They suggested helpful positions for me to labor in, suggested when to change positions, talked me through some of my contractions when i needed it (mostly when i was reaching transition) and prepared me for when it was time "to push." Once baby was out they let us do skin to skin with baby for over an hour and when it was time to do the mandatory tests and weight, etc. they helped me with my self care while also taking excellent care of my newborn. My nurse, Meg Bremner, was so gentle and compassionate, helping me get myself cleaned up and guiding me in Breastfeeding .... i just can't get over how awesome she is. My experience was so incredible i didn't want to leave. From the beginning to the end it was personal, informative, flexible, individualized, respectful, and empowering. Please save your money and go to a real doctor! You and your baby are not safe here! My child is 4 months old now and I'm just able to write this without crying. You will meet a different midwife at every appointment so you will never know or have a relationship with your birthing midwife. If you have a negative blood type they will push the Rhogam shot. After I pushed for over 3 hours the midwives informed us that I would need to be transferred to Vanderbilt. After breaking that news to us they both left the room to apparently tend to another pregnant woman for well over 30 minutes. This was an issue because they didn't tell us where they were going or if EMT's had been called yet. My husband and I are now in the room, our sons head was visible and no midwives in sight. When they finally came back In they told us they would take one last set of vitals before calling an ambulance. As we were told, according to their rules, a transfer should have happened well before this time. Upon arrival of paramedics, the midwife in charge lied and said I had been pushing for 3 hours. It had been almost 5 at this point. I understand that this clinic has rules but these rules should also be relayed to us so that we can birth at the best place available to us. My husband was basically the one supporting me throughout my birth and this place was such a disappointment. Luckily I was transferred to Vanderbilt after pushing for way too long. I ended up having a C-section and my experience with the nurses there was wonderful . Also the midwifes kept documenting the wrong name for my child . Which I corrected them several times . So the day that I'm in labor they call my husband the wrong name all day and again say the wrong for my baby multiple times after I corrected them . We laugh about all of this and they again proceed to later to call them the wrong name again and again . I mean Wtf !!! They leave me Voicemails calling my child the wrong name which I'm not responding to because that's not his name . I really cannot understand how you cannot remember someone's name after being told multiple times that it's not your name . I really can't believe this is my birth story or thatt this happened . I really wanted to like this place. I loved the prenatal care and overall feel and philosophy of Baby + Co, but during our actual delivery, they kept telling us to wait to come in. I went through the hardest part of labor at home with no support. By the time we got there, I was 8 cm and 1.5 hours from delivery. I had a very quick delivery and the midwives were very hands off and didn't try to slow it down at all. They mostly seemed focused on documentation on their laptops and occasionally monitoring baby's vitals. They also had a shift change 10 min before the baby was born, so the midwife who delivered my baby was someone I didn't really know at all. I ended up having to transfer to Vandy due to a severe tear. The transfer was a mess, Vandy was not informed of our arrival so we had to be processed through triage. I wanted that sweet golden hour time together and instead was separated from my baby for hours due to the transfer and me having to go into a surgical room to get stitched up. For our next baby, we will definitely be going to Vandy midwives or St. Thomas. I really wanted to love Baby + Co, but I just didn't. read more

I gave birth to my 3rd baby at the birthing center and I am so happy with how well everything went. The nurses and midwives were so respectful and personal. I was able to text directly with a midwife on the way to the birthing center to let her know my progress. My husband and I played music the entire labor and were given privacy but also always had help near by when we needed it. I was brought pads for my knees and a peanut ball to lean on when my arms got tired. When it came time to push the staff reminded me of my birthing plan wishes and were quick to modify when I changed them. After labor my husband and baby and I were left to sleep uninterrupted for several hours in the birthing suite. Such a different experience from the hospitals where your rest is constantly interrupted. Living an hour and a half away I wished we could have stayed another night. After finding out i was over weight i was told i would not be able to attend the center because i'm high risk. I had such a wonderful experience delivering my first child at Baby and Co in January of 2018. We are expecting our second child and I'm so thrilled to have this wonderful birth center as an option again for delivery. The support provided by the midwives and other staff is so unique and personal. From the pre-natal appointments, childbirth classes, the actual birth and postpartum support groups, Baby and Co really knows how to put women first. The facilities are beautiful and every time I walk in the door I'm greeted by everyone like we are old friends. I wanted a natural childbirth experience at the center, but I totally get that's not for everyone. They offer awesome care options that allow you to deliver at Vandy or St. Thomas if you are considered high-risk or just feel more comfortable in a hospital setting. I wanted to wait until I had completed the process from start to finish before leaving my review, and yesterday I had my six weeks postpartum checkup with my precious baby girl. This was my third birth, and by far my best experience. The entire experience from my first appointment to my birth and postpartum check was loving, professional, and fantastic. YOU hold your healthcare in your own hands here, with the support and love of an amazing staff. Every single staff member was impressive, and I felt so loved and listened to. I had so many options while birthing, the rooms are incredible, and with so many tools to facilitate natural birth it was a beautiful, empowering experience. Every midwife I met with was amazing, and I would have been delighted to get to deliver with any of them, but I got the joy of working with Maddye, and Kathleen (as well as Heather, and Talia) and had a great birth experience and swift, lovely recovery. This review has been a long time coming. I had the worst possible experience with Baby+co. On April 8th of this year I was almost 13 weeks pregnant, I began experiencing major back pain, a fever of 102, body aches, chills, headache & pain in my uterus. I contacted Baby+co (as they were my care provider at the time), told them all my symptoms & they said I might have "pulled a muscle" or I could have the flu. They asked me to go to a walk-in clinic to be swabbed for the flu. So I did that, it came back negative.. so the clinic sent me on my way. Never did hear back from the birthing center for a check up on how I was doing or baby. I finally reached out to them two days later with an 'update' telling them I still wasn't feeling well. They never once suggested I come in to see them until April 12th when I called them first thing that morning telling them I was in terrible pain all throughout the night & loosing a lot of discharge. They scheduled me for a ultrasound at 11am that morning. During that U.S. the tech seemed a little disturbed, showed us our baby's heartbeat & then told us the midwife will speak with us when we are ready. The midwife, Lila told us our baby's heartbeat was in the 200's, but NOTHING to worry about- (even the Doctor they have on staff there, Dr. Thigpen signed off on the heartbeat being ok.) She did an exam on me, took more blood work & said none of those results would be back until the following week. I told her & she saw during my exam JUST how much I was bleeding, she didn't seem concerned. She then sent us home. On our drive home, my pain worsened. My husband had to guide me to our apartment because I couldn't walk on my own. Within one hour of being in the birthing center, I was now sitting in a wheelchair in an ER waiting room. Bleeding uncontrollably. Within two hours the ER staff was doing another ultrasound on me & telling me my baby no longer had a heartbeat. Within three hours I was being prepped for surgery to have a D+C done. We called the birthing center when we were on our way to the ER to tell them just how much I was bleeding & their response was "umm ok, well they will probably just take another ultrasound." & then we NEVER heard from them again until we contacted them a day & a half later to tell them I miscarried. This was my first pregnancy, I had only ever heard good things about birthing centers & that's why I chose you all. Honestly I wish I did my research, because if I had, I would have never chosen Baby+co. When we finally did speak to baby+co on the phone 3 days after all this, the lady we spoke with told us Lila was 'new' & still 'learning what to look for'. I'm sorry, but I didn't know I was signing up to be someone's guinea pig--This was my son's life I trusted you all with! The doctor that did my surgery said you all should have NEVER let us leave the facility when our son's heartbeat was in the 200's. That's a clear sign that something is wrong- most likely meant our son was in distress since he was no longer alive 2 hours later. I hope this review protects other mommas & their babies. Do your research before you choose them, please. I wish I had, because I might still be pregnant with our son if I had. read more

I started going to Baby&Co for my well women exam before getting pregnant. Once I was pregnant, thankfully I had a low-risk, healthy pregnancy and received all my pre-natal/postpartum care at Baby&Co and was able to birth my baby boy at the center! My entire experience with Baby&Co has been exceptional; from the major details of birthing support during labor to the small details of the staff greeting me AND my husband and now our baby boy by name when we walk in the doors. I call Baby&Co a "birthing spa" simply because you are able to relax. The atmosphere is warm, inviting and personable without forsaking professionalism. My husband and I were well educated and well prepared for a natural birth. And I have to add that the hubby was initially skeptical of "midwifery" and the idea of giving birth outside of a hospital. After our experience with Baby&Co, he has been converted! I know it's not for everyone, however, more families need to know their options and at least be open to hearing about what an experience at Baby&Co would look like. I highly recommend it and will be there for any future babies! P.S. everyone is free to voice their own perspective...but in response to some other comments I would say--if a transfer happened and ended up being unnecessary it's always better to be safe then sorry, right? Also, if you are left alone in a corner while laboring, would you rather be in a beautiful room with dim lights and essential oils diffusing with the ability to eat or in a bright, white room with lots of random beeping noises and people coming in to ask you questions, with no food and quick to administer meds bc your labor may not be "progressing?" read more

Want a C section? Go to Baby and Co. They risked my wife out because of an issue that turned out to be nothing. They sent us to the Vanderbilt midwives who were like something out of the documentary The Business of Being Born. Horrible, disorganized, bad people skills, and extremely pushy with induction. After it was too late to change providers many other people told me they had the same experience when they tried to have a natural birth at Baby and Co. My wife never had any medical issues of any sort in her pregnancy (or since) and somehow these butchers put her in the situation where they had to do a C section after a failed induction. read more

It's taken me 17+ months to decide if I really want to leave a review. Part of me still doesn't want to because I had such high hopes for the birth of my first child. The experiences and education leading up to the birth were great and I have no complaints about the prenatal care. Labor Day I was sent home, even though I'd been vomiting and in severe pain, because I "was not dilated enough." I got to enjoy a 25 minute drive in cross town Nashville traffic, while vomiting into a bag, enjoy cramming myself into our tub at home to try to get some relief, and enjoy another 25 minute drive across town when I got to the point where I was willing to go to the hospital if the birthing center did not admit me. I was home for approximately 2 hours before returning and delivering my son within 2 hours. After 17 months of processing this, today is the day I say this was completely unacceptable. I did not feel supported until the very end. I feel I would have received better care in an animal hospital. I am once again pregnant and thankfully not even considering baby and co. I am however using a certified nurse midwife and having a home birth, since I would've been better off with that approach in the first place. I do not recommend this place to any first time mother. read more
