Their approach to music is sustainable and they make music fun and easy to learn. My daughter started going to Arete music academy at 3 years old. She is now playing short piano songs and getting much better. My son was also part of the meet the instruments class and also started at 3 as well. He loves to sing and has developed a lifelong appreciation for music. I even took a few piano lessons myself and was very impressed with how much I was able to learn in such a short period of time. Their staff is top notch with the best credentials. In addition to being scholars of music, they are a nice group of people that interact well with people of all ages and backgrounds. Other things that I like about Arete are: 1) The academy is very neat and clean and well laid out with many sound proof music rooms. 2) They have the finest pianos, Steinway, Yamaha, Kawai which are excellent for taking lessons on and are perfectly tuned! 3) The office staff is very nice and easy to talk to. 4) Top music staff from all the best music universities. Not only do they know music in and out, they can teach it very effectively. 5) They have many programs for all ages and instruments. There is something for everyone. This is definitely hands down the best music school in the area. I wish this Academy was around when I was a child. I am looking forward to having my children become music scholars in the coming years.

As a parent, I like it there for several reasons: 1) their space is always nice, clean and bright 2) their instruments are in good conditions 3) the staff is very friendly and helpful. Although that was convenient, it was not the engaging experience that made learning fun and didn't inspire her to practice. Through a school friend Shobo Music Academy was recommended highly, hence Victoria tried it and has been a student for the past 9yrs. Alain has been engaging, polite an inspiring teacher that ultimately coached my daughter's playing to an entire higher level. She has been so happy with the results; working hard, learning more! I have been toying with the idea of getting a guitar for several years now and finally took the plunge. I originally considered trying to learn guitar from a DVD or YouTube videos, but after trying to do chords off of a DVD, I was getting super frustrated that my girly fingers are just not long enough to stretch the way they needed to to make those chords. I started lessons here yesterday after hearing about Fort Lee School of Music from a friend. I'm so glad I did. The first lesson was really great. Mike, the owner and the guitar instructor is really patient and even better, his lessons are really individualized to how you want to learn guitar, and what you want to learn. Because I'd expressed concern about being able to reach the chords, he taught me some chromatic exercises on the lower frets, and I'm practicing moving up the fret board to give my fingers some exercise in stretching and getting used to the movements. Seems like such a great way to start. We'll see how it goes since this was just lesson #1 and I'll possibly update this review at a later time. For now though, I am really impressed and have already recommended Fort Lee School of Music to a friend who's autistic son is wanting to learn guitar.

We have thoroughly enjoyed the bi-annual recitals. Vinny(guitar) and Nancy(piano) instructors/owners are kind and very flexible with scheduling needs. Ten years have passed and they are still attending private classes. Their progress has been amazing and they have placed in many music competitions over the years.

UPDATE: After much effort, I finally reached someone who was…read moreable to help - the director of licensee relations - who is working quickly with the Bergen County to ameliorate the situation of getting the materials before class to help my son. I appreciate the response from both. I generally like Music Together, I certainly like the idea of it. A few things to consider: Don't let them sway you with class choice - I started my 6-month old, and planned to go into a baby class, but when that class was cancelled due to lack of enough registration, we were put into a more mixed age group class. My son was totally overhwlemed by the kids and the high noise level, and wasn't comfortable until the last class. He is a daycare kid, so he's used to group environments, but the music played was LOUD. I wanted to stick with it because I felt that it would be a good learning experience for us together, but I was disappointed that instead of recommending I wait a season, they put us in a class that wasn't good. The experience put a bad taste in my mouth, needless to say. Now I am gamely trying again for Fall, since he's older, and my plan of attack is to have him get familiar with the class CD in advance, so that we have more of a chance of being comfortable off the bat. Unfortunately, that plan is being thwarted by Music Together. The Bergen County organizer told me that she wouldn't get the CDs in until about a week before class starts, so there was "nothing she could do" to get it to me earlier. I called the main office in Princeton, and the woman I spoke with was astounded at my request. She said the CDs are "at the warehouse" and they "don't sell directly to the public." Let it be noted that I have already paid for my class. So my CD is in existence, just unattainable. I asked if they had a spare in the office I could borrow and send back, or if they have the files they can send me online for now. She said she would call me back and I haven't yet gotten a response. I have a hard time believing that this is the first time they've had a child who loves music but needs a little extra handholding with the crowd and the loud noise. I am a parent trying to help my child enjoy and grow with Music Together, instead I fear that we are going to spent another 6 weeks+ just getting him comfortable there, and completely missing the point of the class. Pretty frustrating, to say the least.

They have dedicated huge parking lot, lots of studios rooms inside for different classes. Multiple rooms to store bags and shoes. There's waiting area and waiting room. Couple of restrooms, very clean and well maintained. My daughter started with toddler class and continued to her second year of intro to Ballet. Ms. Kerri is an amazing instructor, very friendly, patient and playful with the kids. Classes are for 45 minutes. Same classes are offered during week and on the weekend, so easy to do makeup classes by attending the alternative class. Tuition fees are very decent, way cheaper than some of the places we tried before. Registration and monthly tuition, all of it can be managed through website. They are also very helpful in person with any question or concern. I have been very pleased taking my daughter here for her classes over a year now. It's a wonderful facility that has a history of developing incredible Ballet performers through its classes.
