My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant 7/22. Very clean well laid out place with a nice view of the river. The waitress was vey nice, quick and efficient. We started with an appetizer of maple bacon Brussels. I had the honey glazed salmon and my boyfriend had the crab stuffed haddock. We both enjoyed our meals. Went here for my 65th birth and was happy to enjoy my favorite chicken Marsala. Always so tasty and tender. Overall, I would rate Back Bay Boathouse as a 3.5/5 if I was able. Service was average; our waitress was nice, but our appetizer was not put through and arrived halfway through our entree order. The alcoholic beverages were good; I specifically enjoyed the Lake Effect cocktail. Food ranged from great to disappointing; while one of our guests enjoyed the boathouse BBC pasta, the mahi mahi tacos were overcooked and the lobster roll lacked flavor. The gluten free buffalo chicken pasta only had a few pieces of chicken, but the bang bang shrimp appetizer was delicious. In regard to ambiance, the restaurant is nicely located within downtown Wolfeboro and has a pretty view of the river. Overall, maybe I would return and order something different. read more

We went for lunch on a Saturday. It was cool but ok to sit on the patio overlooking the bay. So pleasant. Our server Lexie, was excellent. We had two items I read about from other Yelpers. My husband loved his fish and chips. I sampled a fry and loved it. He said the cole slaw was the best he's ever had. The serving size was generous / just right. Great seating choices, great food, great staff, great views. How could you go wrong? Went here with friends and had 4 amazing dishes with fresh ingredients and nice size portions. The fish and chips was light and and perfectly fried. The cordon bleu was yummy! Butternut squash ravioli we thought was homemade? Yum. I had the crispy Brussels salad with steak and OMG, it was outrageously good and huge! The steak was cooked perfect and was tender and deliciously seasoned. If you're looking for a nice space indoors or outdoors where you can relax with friends this is it! A return visit will def be in the cards. read more

The good- location- lots of parking and nice water views- and in warm weather a great patio! It was a rainy day. The location of Back Bay Boathouse is fantastic, with beautiful water views that make for a cozy and inviting atmosphere inside. The menu is large and offers plenty of options, making it easy to find something for everyone. That said, my haddock choice was disappointing -- it lacked flavor and was overly salty. Prices are also on the higher side, which left us feeling a bit underwhelmed given the quality of the meal. For those who got the $15 dollar lunch special maybe they were more happy with their bill but honestly a soup/salad option at $9.99 or small portions would have suited us as well. I was really looking forward to dining here as it had been recommended by locals previously. Service was pretty friendly- With a few tweaks, this spot could really shine. read more

We went on a Saturday at 5:30 and the place was packed. The staff told us they weren't accepting walk-ins, but we were able to sit at the bar. Strangely, we noticed several open tables until the time we walked out at 6:30 pm There were two young bartenders who seemed overwhelmed making drinks. It took about 10 minutes before anyone took our drink orders. When the food arrived, I asked one of the bartenders for an additional item, but she forgot. I tried to follow up with the other bartender, who clearly saw me but chose to ignore it. They had a lot of time to chit chat to each others but not with the customers The food was just average--nothing memorable. Only a couple restaurants open on a Monday is Wolfeboro, grateful that Back Bay Boathouse was open! My cocktail was yummy, our food was good. Not amazing, but was perfectly fine. I got the salmon, a good filet portion, the sides were a little small. Our waitress was really lovely and helpful! Great salads and meals - we went on a Sunday during winter and it was property quiet, but our party of 4 was very pleased with our appetizers and meals. Two had burrata salads with salmon, one had the ribeye and one had chicken parm. Clean plates all around. (On Sundays they have a $15 meal menu! Apps... pretzels, and steak and cheese eggrolls. They were very tasty. I had an awesome salad topped with salmon. It was perfectly cooked. The experience was good, not great as it could be. The raviolis were amazing and chicken nuggets were a hit. The chicken parm was unfortunately served on penne which is too heavy. Too bad because it w/b a big hit if on angel hair or even linguini. The bar service was bad. 20 minutes to get drinks and then later 15 min for a bottled beer. Hopefully, this was a one off. We loved the deck and will return to see if bar service was just awful that day. read more

I loved the atmosphere. However, we ordered a "special" which was not very special. It was supposed to be scallops wrapped in bacon. Cost $19. We received 5 obviously frozen tiny scallops wrapped in minuscule pale bacon that looked like it was microwaved. Won't be back. You could say that the service was okay. read more

Earlier this year (Feb. 2023), I went to Back Bay Boathouse (BBB) for my first time & w/a large group--outstanding all around & I wrote a 5 star review! My experience in August (2023) was completely the opposite with 3 adults and 1 child. We ordered 3 apps & a grilled cheese. It wasn't super busy--but it was steady. We waited about 45m before inquiring on the food & our server informed us that the kitchen was backed up--we understood as they were not fully staffed but we understood. Moments later, the manager (I believe her name was Michelle) arrived at our table, without being summoned and acknowledged the delayed dinner, offered us a round of drinks on the house, and asked if it would be helpful if she got the kids meal (grilled cheese); Yes, please and we we're grateful! (Hangry anyone is bad enough!) We waited another 30m or so before our apps came out. Our bill was compensated with 50% off the 3 apps as well. We tipped our server off what would have been the bill, including the complimentary drinks. Although we were hungry & there for almost two hours for 3 apps--we were also so appreciative of how the server & manager took action. Completely blown away by the manager's transparency, kindness and trying to make the best of a tough dinner night at the restaurant. A group of 4 of us stopped in for lunch on Friday around noon and everything was very good from the cocktails to the entrees. The baked haddock plate was excellent. Our wait wasn't long, but things got busy shortly after we were seen to our table. The food was pretty good- we had the garlic teriyaki sirloin tips and swordfish. The ambience is typical casual lakefront. However, the service was terrible. Our waitress brought our drinks and took our order quickly, which is the only good thing I can say. We ordered an appetizer but never received it- it wasn't on the bill so I assume it was never rung in. The waitress didn't come back to check on our meal or refill our drinks. Long wait after we finished eating before she reappeared and brought the check. She never made eye contact or introduced herself. Would not come here again. read more

My family and I had a late lunch at the Back Bay Boathouse in mid-May 2024. I had the best cheeseburger. On the menu it's called the Smash burger. The flavor was amazing and the burger was cooked to perfection. My family members loved the food they ordered. My dad had the Shrimp Po Boy and my mom had the Fish n Chips. My wife had the Smash burger too and she went on and on about how delicious it was. The service was great and the atmosphere is comfortable and we had a nice view. I will visit here again anytime we are in Wolfeboro. Next time we will probably tried what our parents had. Keep up the great work! read more

The disconnect between management of their website and their front of house, sinks this experience for me. Being a local it would take me 15m to get there and I know somedays tourists overwhelm the businesses, so I called to make a reservation, to save the wait. I called ahead on my way and the girl who answered told me reservations were not needed and there was no wait. Awesome, right? Wrong. I get there and the hostess tells me there is a 20m wait and asked if I would like to put my name on the list. I reiterate the exchange that had taken place on the phone, she said yea they sometimes take reservations, and then was done with the conversation, turning her head to speak to the other teenager with her. The food looked alright, it's pub/seafood - a common fare in this community. So we left, simple as that. No thanks, run your business with integrity.... tourists like it, so there's that. But I'll stick to more civic conscious businesses. read more
