I'm really disappointed with this dental office. Out of nowhere, I received a bill on November 17th claiming I owed $98 for a service done 16 months ago. The notice said it was my "final notification before collections" -- yet this was literally the first time I had ever been contacted about it. The office has my email and cell number, and they regularly text me for appointments, but never once sent any email, text, or call about this balance. They said they had mailed letters, but I had moved and had specifically informed the office of my new address, so they knew mailed statements wouldn't reach me. Despite that, they never used any of the contact methods I actually receive. The charge itself was for fluoride, which I never would have agreed to if I had known it wasn't covered by my insurance. It was $98 -- something that could easily be written off considering the circumstances. When I explained everything and asked them to comp it, I was told the staff member "did not have the authority" to adjust the balance. But after I mentioned that I would leave an honest review describing the situation, suddenly she did have the ability to offer 25% off. That made it clear that the earlier "I don't have the authority" line was simply a pressure tactic, not the truth. Overall, the lack of communication, the inaccurate claim that I had received multiple notices, and the sudden shift in what they "could" do once I pushed back all felt really unprofessional. I would recommend being extremely cautious with this office, especially around billing and transparency. read more

I'm having a really infuriating experience so thought I would share: -May 2021: I get new insurance and call their front desk to make sure they take my insurance. They confirm over the phone that they do - which means $0 charge for my cleaning. -May 2021: After my cleaning, they inform me that they actually don't take my insurance. I email them that they had just told me they did a week ago, and they say: "I'm sorry for any inconvenience or confusion, however Aetna is an Out of Network Dental Insurance Company. Sometimes Insurance Company will cover cleansing at 100 % for Out of Network Providers. We will adjust any payments if the insurance company chooses not to pay as a courtesy. I will Cancel any future appointments. Sorry about that!" -Aug 2022: I get a bill so I call them and explain the whole situation again and the front desk agrees that I shouldn't be billed and they would take care of it ASAP. -Aug 2022: I get another phone call from Polly (the office manager) saying that I must pay and that this is not their problem as it was my responsibility to contact my own insurance to confirm (I guess I shouldn't have trusted their front desk?) and they would be sending my bill to collections. I understand I got a service from them but I only went because they told me it would be no cost under my insurance. Polly insinuates this is my fault for believing their front desk and that she is in charge. Really disappointing experience. read more

Dr. Alami tried to push fillings on me, insisting I needed them without question. I showed the x-rays to a friend who is a dentist and she assured me I did not need them. It's 18 months later, I didn't get fillings and my teeth are in great shape. Given his experience and certainty in his sell I felt that this was likely an unethical upsell rather than poor decision-making on his part. They didn't get prior authorization for my appointment, and 18 months later (today) texted me about a $66 bill, which is why I remember this incident. They come across as Zen Masters and super spiritual, but they are really barracudas. The are super money hungry and the staff hounds you even when their services were overcharged and incomplete. They put us into collection for a duplicate service they performed on my daughter who has special needs citing that it wasn't their fault they had to repeat the procedure. If you can't deal with adults with disabilities they just say you can't handle them instead of putting the fault on the one who's disabled. Dentist is a nice guy, but be wary. After moving here I went to a recommended dentist who jabbed the novocaine needle into a nerve which sent a searing pain all over my head, eventually causing Bells Palsey. Then he obviously did not disinfect the crown which caused a painful infection and subsequent root canal. Needless to say I was panicking about finding a competent dentist in Boston. Back Bay Dental Design is state-of-the-art and clean as a whistle with a professional and personable staff. They can 3-D print a crown that day without sending out to a lab and waiting a week or 2. Today was my 3rd visit to this practice, and it was a very frustrating one. I was scheduled for a cleaning and a visit with the dentist, but the dentist left early for the day and there was no backup. I'm old, and in all my years of going to the dentist (probably more than 100 times by now) this has never happened to me before. They should have called me ahead of time and given me the chance to reschedule. I would certainly have done that, rather than missing the dentist altogether. Brought my teen to see dr. Kurban after a recommendation. Everything from scheduling to broken xray machine and the experience with dr. was horrible. The staff was rude, my daughter was in tears after the visit (it was just a cleaning and check up). Also if you schedule to see dr Kurban, there is a high chance that you will end up seeing a different doctor. I have been a patient of Dr. Kurban since 1996. I absolutely disdain going to the dentist but going to Dr. Kurban is painless, comforting, and embracing. All of the people who work there have always treated me lovingly and with respect. I also appreciate that Dr. Kurban supports a diverse group of people from different countries. I also support his work in developing countries. I also appreciate their use of technology. I get friendly email reminders as well as text messages to remind me of my appts. The use of technology extends to dental equipment such as in house made crowns and digital imaging of teeth. I have never used the spa services but the atmosphere in the office is always calm and relaxing. I don't live close to their offices but it is worth the drive and parking to have such a loyal, inviting, and superb dentist as Dr. Kurban. read more

This was my first visit to Kurban and Fereidouni and I can say that I will never go to a different dentist. This place was pure awesome! It's rare when someone can say that about the dentist. The office is set up sort of like a spa which isn't exactly my vibe but everything was spotlessly clean and well organized. Another important part that is an absolute requirement for a 5 star review is being on time. My appointment started at 11:30 and I was in the chair at 11:30. Perfectly punctual. I forget the name of my hygienist but she was one of the sweetest people I've met in a while and she was also very knowledgeable. She described all the cleaning procedures she was going to do and I felt like she was very well versed in dentistry and knew exactly what she was doing. This coupled with the chill music made me feel very comfortable. I would definitely recommend Kurban and Fereidouni for people who are nervous about the dentist or have had bad experiences with dentists in the past. Dr. Fereidouni was one of those people that you instantly like as soon as he walks into the room. He was very personable and I liked that he introduced himself by his first name. He checked out my teeth (no cavities!), went through some tips for oral hygiene and I was on my way. It's likely that I'll actually go to the dentist every 6 months now. read more

Wow, I'm surprised to read bad reviews about the service here. It's always been impeccable during my visits. I went to this office originally because I needed a periodontist, and theirs came recommended. He was awesome. Then I decided to start getting my teeth cleaned there too, because damn, if I am getting my teeth scraped to high heavens I might as well be greeted with bamboo floors, soft music and waterfalls or whatever. Seriously, it's a very beautiful, clean office. Love it. And my teeth have never been cleaner. As for service, I've never had more professional appointment making, reminders and - get this - once in the middle of my appointment my meter was going to be up so someone at the front desk took my car keys, moved my car and paid the meter for me! I am not typically one to write reviews but I felt Dr Kurban and his staff did an exemplary job in working with me as he has helped me truly live a happier life by drastically improving my dental health. I was previously seeing a less-than-awesome dentist that had botched several procedures including a post/crown that had fallen out after less than a year from the date of the procedure. As Dr Kurban explained to me later, this dentist failed to produce a "ferrule effect" (Google) which is required to hold the crown firmly in place by keeping an elevated tooth structure around the post. A costly rookie mistake. To make matters worse, for years I had thought nothing of the "muffin top" fillings I had received from my old dentist that would not allow me to floss properly. When my previous dentist told me there was nothing that could be done on his end, he instructed me to "floss around the problem" which really only made it worse since I was not able to clean all the surfaces of my teeth. Of course, this ultimately just led to more cavities, pain and aggravation... If you are currently experiencing these symptoms with your dentist, find a new one right away!!! Ultimately, I decided it was time for a change. Dr Kurban took me on almost immediately despite not having any dental insurance or deep pockets--just problems and plenty of them. During my very first visit, Dr Kurban immediately remedied the pain I was experiencing on a daily basis. He explained everything I mentioned above in great detail so a layman like myself could understand what I was experiencing and how he was going to fix it. Maybe it had something to do with the subtle eucalyptus aroma wafting throughout his office or his prepossessing and personable assistants, but on my way out of his office I knew I had made the right decision and was already feeling much better both physically and emotionally since a final resolve to what had been ailing me for months was finally in sight. I must say that I was initially afraid of the potentially enormous dental bill that was to come from future visits to fix the almost constant pain in my mouth. Several botched fillings, two root canals, post/crown, gum graft and an extraction of the old tooth that was ruined by my previous dentist seemed like a tall order for me to be able to afford without insurance. However, Dr Kurban was able to help me work it out so I could get the treatment I desperately needed without breaking the bank. In addition, Dr Kurban has clearly invested a lot of money in state-of-the-art equipment. He is actually able to do a post/crown all in one visit which is practically unheard of since most dentists send a gelatin mold of your mouth to an off-site specialist which can take days or weeks and a second visit to the dentist. Being very curious, I asked him how it worked and he actually took me around the office to let me watch him create it, very cool... Dr Kurban took a digital 3D image of my mouth and he actually created the model for my crown right in front of me on a computer before having the crown itself milled on premises from a blank tooth analog. After the milling, he then paints it to match the color of my other teeth before finalizing it in a high-temperature oven. No temporary tooth or second visit was needed and it both looks and feels very natural! Above all else, his enthusiasm throughout the process really showed me how passionate he is about his work and gives me additional peace of mind. Throughout all of my visits he has always been kind, professional and very understanding as is the rest of the staff who now always greets me by my first name every time I come in the front door. I always feel very welcome there and I don't think I will be needing to look for another dentist anytime soon... I am extremely happy and I feel very lucky to have found Dr. Kurban. I would recommend him to anyone in need of help like I was. I am truly thankful for everything he has done. For the record as I'm sure many people are curious, I have had a lot of people stick me with novocain in the past and Dr Kurban is the best I've ever had at administering it--even without any topical anesthetic preparation which I think is impressive. He's probably given me a dozen or so shots of it at this point and I can honestly say that I could probably sleep through the experience. The hygienist Kristen was incredible. She was super thorough. I'm pretty sure it was an hour in the chair using the ultrasonic blast thing on every tooth. Then with a buff polish my teeth were SPOTLESS afterward! I love the decor and vibe of this place. It truly is a dental spa. I am new to Boston, so thanks to Groupon I was able to find my go-to dentist. Dr. Fereidouni was very informative, he took the time to explain everything. Unfortunately (or fortunately) they found a couple cavities. My first time ever having a cavity :( But I made an appointment with them to have them filled next Monday. I'm not on dental insurance and don't make much $$ but they were willing to offer me a payment plan. So that's cool. Also love the "Worst Case Scenario" book in the waiting room. I had extreme, EXTREME anxiety about going to the dentist because of an extremely painful exposed nerve I have on my gum line. The last dentist and hygienist I saw kept scraping it and poking it, only to tell me that I had no choice but to deal with the extreme pain. As a result, I hadn't been to the dentist in 2+ years and almost had a panic attack walking into this dentist's office. Walking in I felt immediately soothed, but still apprehensive. It feels like a spa in this place - bamboo everywhere, very calming, and the smell was more like nature and flowers than like a dentist's office. Dr. Fereidouni and my hygienist were both extremely careful and did not touch my exposed nerve AT ALL. Rather than telling me to suck it up, both Dr. and hygienist (Kristen) told me they understood how painful the exposed nerve must be, and I was given a prescription numbing toothpaste and told to come back in two weeks to check up on it again. The Dr. said he'd bond it if it still hurt in 2 weeks. This was so proactive on his part and he actually took my pain seriously, unlike this other dentist I saw. Overall, this experience was one I would absolutely recommend to anybody. And I have to go against what everyone else has said so far - the cleaning did not hurt at all. It was very thorough, yes, but far less painful than other cleanings I've had. read more

Dr. Fereidouni may be the nicest, most knowledgeable dentist I have ever met. I bought a Groupon for here, so I got a cleaning, checkup, and panoramic xray for way cheap. My appointment was scheduled with ease (for a week after I called, mid-afternoon), and I was taken only a few minutes after my scheduled appointment time. The waiting area is stocked with coffee and tea, which I found funny given that they're probably the worst teeth-stainers. I saw the dentist before the cleaning - probably the first time that has happened to me. He was really nice and helped remove some bad stains from my teeth by using a cool high-tech smoother. It's a good thing I saw him first, because the cleaning was, as someone else put it, "tortuous". I don't think I've ever had as painful a cleaning in my life. Advice: take some Advil before your appointment. Seriously. Anyway, I'm glad the cleaning was intense: I felt like my mouth MUST have been spotless afterward, because I got water blasted all over my gums and teeth for about 20 minutes straight. I do not exaggerate. It really hurt. I almost cried. I still give this place 4 stars. I loved the hygienist and the dentist; the only issues is that 1) I didn't get a confirmation call on my appointment the day before, so I had to call myself just to make sure we were clear; 2) if not for my Groupon, I might have found the price a bit steep. This place literally cured my fear of dentists! Though I was terrified from bad dental experiences, I initially chose this place because I had a Groupon and I was intrigued by the "spa" description. It's been a couple years now and I'm so glad I went, because I am now a normal person who goes to the dentist every six months. Let's get the "spa" thing out of the way first. To describe a dentist that way is kind of silly, but they are true to it and such an environment is [slightly] helpful for initially nervous patients like me - it's a beautiful office with a lovely decor, coffee/tea/water, pleasant music, and friendly receptionists. Much more important is the excellent dental work they do. What keeps me coming back is Shawn, the dental hygienist, with whom I've spent 90% of my time at Kurban & Fereidouni. She is incredibly qualified and knows what she is doing. I am really lazy and bad at remembering to floss, so my cleanings are more on the painful side, but afterward my teeth are sparkling and I have a new goal to take care of my teeth. It's funny, I really get the feeling that Shawn actually cares about the condition of my teeth, rather than just going through the cleaning/lecture motions like most dental hygienists. For people who don't floss like me, it will be a bit uncomfortable, so you should be prepared - maybe take an Advil beforehand. I can see why people might have been caught off guard by that, but personally I am grateful that Shawn takes the time and effort to leave my teeth so beautifully clean. It's nothing a regular person couldn't handle - I'd say akin to an eyebrow wax - and if you do take good care of your teeth it shouldn't hurt at all (hopefully that'll be me next time..) Also remember that if you haven't been to the dentist in years (which was my situation), your first appointment will be worst, but they will get easier from that point on. I especially appreciate that Shawn takes the time to show me the right techniques for brushing and flossing. When she explains her suggested methods, make sure to listen and ask her to repeat it if you didn't understand. The dentists are terrific also. I have seen both of them, once each. They are skilled, knowledgable, gentle, and take time to explain what they are doing. For whatever it's worth, they are also both really handsome and charismatic, which, like for presidential candidates, gives me a belief that they are trustworthy and good at their jobs (only half kidding). I also get the feeling that I am getting the most high-tech treatment available. It doesnt seem like they are ever cheap or scrimp on quality of care and material. The technician who fitted me for my mouth guard was wonderful as well. She made me laugh the whole time. I can't remember if it was her or Dr Kurban who said it, but I told them I was really scared and they said, "It's okay, I don't floss every day either." Which I found to be a hilarious thing for a dentist to say. Overall, the best dentist I've ever been to -- I'd never go back to the mean, scary, painful and guilt-inducing dentists I've been to in the past! One IMPORTANT word of warning - do not miss your appt or cancel with late notice! The fee is nothing short of exorbitant. But it's understandable considering the quality of care that they provide. Do whatever you have to do - ask for a text message reminder, ask your mom to call you the day before, get the date of your appt tattooed on your forehead - but don't miss it! 7/5: An update that I just had two small fillings by Dr. Kurban; it was ridiculous how easy it was. For a 10am appt, I walked in at 9:58 and was in the dentist's chair by 10:01. I didn't even need a shot and it didn't hurt! In fact it was so easy/quick that afterward I decided to have all of my metal fillings replaced as recommended on my first visit. I had 4 replaced and only 1 hurt, which they were very sensitive about, giving me breaks and going gently. I was in and out of there in 45 minutes. Amazing. read more

I had braces (as an adult) for 2 years. I got them removed 2 weeks ago. I used a Groupon to get my teeth cleaned today. This dental office is very impressive. A+++. As soon as you walk in, you will see the difference. The place looks, feels, smells and sounds (music) like a spa. It was very clean. The x-ray equipment and patient chairs are very modern and advanced. They took their time to explain things to me and to clean my teeth thoroughly. When it was time for the dentist to see me, he also took his time to explain oral health, etc. to me. It was also nice that he reviewed my personal information form and wanted to discuss my responses. He explained why he was doing what he was doing. And we even reviewed my xray together. I've been to other places where the dentist pops in for a minute or less - here, it was different. Another thing I liked was that there was no pressure to buy this or that product or to pay additional money for "deep cleaning", like other places I've been to. At this place, you get the sense that they just care about you and keeping your mouth and teeth as healthy as possible. Overall, the best dental office I've ever been to. Best dentist and hygienist I've ever had. Kristin's cleanings are so good, my teeth look whitened when I leave. I go three times a year to keep them feeling and looking great. I also go more because I don't have a cavity or need for dental work every time I go unlike gentle dental, which somehow always found something wrong. Here they are very holistic. Since my sisters been going to Dr. Kurban for at least five years. He is truly a wonderful dentist and She recommend him for my kids and to others. I scheduled an appointment for my kids to have cleaning work done, but one of them spend the night with high fever (100.5) around 7:45 that morning I call at least to leave a voice mail to make them aware of the situation and of course not able to leave any voice mail. Now come 8:45 I called the front desk spoke with Leo and according to him I should have still bring my sick son to the appointment " I am sure if he does have kids he would understand ". I have been a patient of his for ten years now. He did my braces, other cosmetic work, and the usual fillings, etc. I trust him to always give me an honest estimate; he is meticulous, pays attention to smallest details, and he is a perfectionist (exactly what I want from my dentist). First visit: I had been told that my tooth needed to be pulled by a previous dentist, and that an implant needed to be considered. Consultation with Dr Fereidouni revealed that the tooth could be saved via a root canal & crown. I couldn't believe it! What a savings and less anxiety considering I didn't know how my condition would respond to an implant... I have a condition called RSD which has spread into my mouth and makes dental work seem impossible at times... On top of that, I am a germaphobe & must admit that at times, I do require extra patience. Lol. BUT, his patience are beyond believable, & his bedside manner is refreshing. This makes all the difference in the world when you are an intricate patient as I am. I HIGHLY recommend him. His assistant would do well to mirror his impeccable bedside & professional manner... as people come in all forms... A few weeks after the aforementioned crown, I fractured a different tooth up into my gum. I ended up going to my old Dentist as Dr Fereidouni was on vacation. He took the pieces out, but, said that I needed crown lengthening & a crown, or an implant. He referred me out for a consult with a Dr who was leaving for 2 weeks to go teach. Instead of being referred to another dental office, I decided to just chance the wait for Dr Fereidouni and scheduled an appt. Soo glad I did, because not only did I not need a full crown lengthening, he saved me money by being able to do everything using skills that must be a secret because it wasn't even mentioned by my other dentist. I tell you, that this guy is a KNOWLEDGEABLE MAGICIAN! This was important because I had no more dental insurance for this year. I must also say that this visit was even better because he had taken the time to read up on my condition and knew how to better work in my mouth. I was/am very grateful for such a kind spirit. I went here because I had a Groupon. I wouldn't have chosen such a swanky dentist's office if I hadn't had the coupon, but I'm really glad I did. Office is beautiful. Staff is very friendly and professional. Dentist was knowledgeable and very nice. Very little waiting. And the cleaning was amazing!! It definitely wasn't painless but was totally worth it. She really took the time to clean my teeth beautifully and explain to me how I could do a better job with my brush and floss routine at home. I went in expecting to go just the once, but they earned my business with their quality service AND offered me half-price to fix the one tooth I need fixing. With the discount, it will be very reasonable and so much more pleasant than going to one of the dental schools and waiting for hours. read more

This review is for scheduling and front desk staff and doesn't speak to the care the dentists here provide. I scheduled an appointment for a cleaning via ZocDoc for later in the week - the morning of the appointment I received multiple calls asking if I could come in earlier that I was unable to respond to since I was working. The appointment fell through because of this. I understand that ZocDoc isn't as reliable so although frustrated with the last minute change in appointment time I let it go. Fast forward to this week my boyfriend needed to be seen for a wisdom tooth consult for a referral and I recommended he go here since it's close to us. He scheduled his appointment via phone call directly to the practice. This morning, a less than pleasant woman called telling him they needed to reschedule his morning appointment, no reason given, to not later that day but rather the following week. This appointment wasn't just for a cleaning but for an important referral so that he could have dental surgery. It seems that this is common practice here - that if the appointment doesn't work for the practice they'll move your appointment. A word of recommendation, patients schedule appointments at certain times and days because it works for their schedules. We'll be finding another practice, unfortunately. read more
