Had it on a list for some time now to write a review for Dr Nevin finally got time to do it after years ) Going to Nevins clinic feels like a Movie like experience! Office futuristic and everyone is super professional. Went to get an implant placed. It was a bit on the pricey side and had to postpone, but in the process Dr Nevine discovered an issue with another of my tooth and recommended to take care of it with my primary doctor. Till this day thankful to him for saving my tooth, the issue was one of the root canals done 7-8 years back started to decays inside. My primary doctor couldn't see anything wrong with their equipment I insisted and provided the scan from Dr Nevine. Dr Alyassi from BD performed the procedure and after opening the canals found that we were literally couple of months away from this tooth being a goner. Dr Nevins is true to his website's mission statement - "He strongly believes that modern treatment approaches based on the latest advances in biotechnology and clinical science are the gateway to providing the best patient care." After a root canal and crown elsewhere in 2017, I experienced increasing numbness in one side of my lower jaw, which led to a cascade of diagnostic attempts and numerous visits to various dental practicioners and neurosurgeons. Dr Nevins was the first to recommend laser treatment to restore nerve function, and I have improvement already from the first treatment. This is a huge quality-of-life issue for me. I had radiation for Head & Neck cancer back in 2000. One consequence can be a softening of the jawbone and difficulty with implants. Dr Nevin's website deals with the issue, offering a possible treatment with growth hormone at the time of the implant surgery - that's how I found his office. Another really positive thing about my experience with his practice is that they prescribe medication in advance of the appointment. (My recent experience includes a doctor who refused to prescribe pain medication post implant surgery.) It always seemed to me, given the occasional pain and unpleasantness of oral surgery, that it would make sense to be medicated prior to an appointment in addition to local anaesthetic. I want to applaud Dr Nevins for doing just that, having a compassionate, sensible approach to pain management and antibiotics. read more

I'd avoid this place. They treated my insurance like an optional thing that might help me, possibly, maybe. As opposed to what it is, which is how they get paid. Then they insisted on some sort of special CT scan, naturally not covered by insurance. Then tried to book me right away for a wisdom tooth extraction, that most other oral surgeons I've consulted have said is too risky to touch. Felt more like a used car salesman working a hot lead than a doctor advising me of health issues. Lobby is sleek, h-bomb diploma prominently displayed behind the receptionist (where you have to see it), and art is tasteful. I guess that could be impressive. Less impressive is the mouth infection that I seem to have picked up from the exam. I'm healthy and not prone to these things, so I guess that was one thing that this visit changed for me. read more

I will give full details soon... when I get over the negligence / trauma and lack of reimbursement for failures relating to both Dr. Nevins and Dr. Mitchell. Don't let the pretty office fool you. Someone needs to pay for all the hype and ego. I have had three subsequent consults that all agree that the dental work done at Nevins Dental needs to be redone. When I reached out to have them correct the issues repeatedly I was brushed off. I would not recommend them for basic work let alone something that needs sophisticated dental attention. Update: In addition, he has you sign many waivers prior to treating you as he owns the implant company that went out of business and many other parts of medical devices and lasers he is treating you with. In other words he is making money from you in more ways than just the clinical treatment. In healthcare (hospital settings) that is call a big Conflict of Interest! Honestly move on to someone who cares about you over doing business with all the parts that go into dental care. I'm a new patient to the practice but wanted to pen this review because I was so pleasantly surprised after having a fairly negative experience with an oral surgery practice prior to reaching out to his office for a same day appointment. what was also especially great, was that Dr Nevins was aware of rare disorders like EDS and MCAS, and kind enough to keep a holistic picture of me as a patient in mind. He has a calm demeanor, not rushed and made me feel at ease even as my gums were quite painful from whatever is going on and flared after just a standard exam. His rates are quite affordable but I could be comparing this to NYC rates which are as high as the real estate there. He also does not recommend anything that a patient doesn't need like some dentists. I went to Dr Nevins to fix a failing implant that had been placed 15 years ago in Los Angeles. I had been to 4 other dentists/periodontists in Boston that each told me that it was too risky to remove it, despite the recurring infections it was giving me. They all offered me different solutions (mainly cosmetic, but not really fixing the issue). After talking to Dr Nevins, he assured me that the implant could be removed and I would heal up fine. Since the other periodontists had told me that my implant issue was "too complex a case", this was finally music to my ears. The day of the implant removal (today) went smoothly. I felt zero pain (although I will admit I was super nervous)! After the implant removal and some bone grafts, my gums look better than before! I have a few months to heal before the next step, but Dr Mitchell was also able to put in a bridge the same day as my surgery. If you've shopped around for dental work, you probably know that bridges and implant removal typically don't happen at the same time or location; usually different dentists, which is a drag. It was great that I could do both on the same day! I am truly amazed with the results. This place is the real deal for anyone that is looking for an implant expert. Ridiculously over priced services are what you'll find at this sleek, modern office on Cambridge Street. If you have CEO level dental coverage and tons of money on top of that to pay for what isn't covered, then I would say patronize this place but not before you check out a few other dentists first. I went for two consultations and both times he walked out of the room while I was mid sentence with questions regarding the procedure; in fact, he spent the majority of both appointments running out of the room to speak with other clients. After being referred by my present dentist to a periodontist that I was not all that comfortable with, I went and asked my childhood (read: up through college) dentist for a referral. An experience of excellence from start to finish! I was referred to Dr. Nevins by another dentist who described him as the best in the business. My experience is 100% congruent with that opinion and would strongly recommend him and his team. His practices and his office are state of the art. Details: I had my two front teeth broken at a young age and have had caps my whole life and they were a poor match to my real teeth. One of the teeth beneath the cap had become infected and I was experiencing bone loss. Additionally, the gums were receding and making me very self conscious of my smile. Dr Nevins and his team initially did a bone graft and ultimately an implant and several gum grafts. He worked closely with an expert restorative dentist (Dr. Kenneth Malament) who created new crowns which match my other teeth perfectly. I just concluded the process and could not be happier with the result. I have no concerns about my smile and have the confidence to know my mouth is healthy with no infection or receding gums. All through the process Dr. Nevins closely monitored my progress and took very conservative measures to ensure an optimal outcome. I am currently in the process of getting a dental implant. Although I am only at the beginning of what I have heard is a 6-8 month process I couldn't be in better hands. Dr. Nevins was recommended by my dentist and said he's the best in city. This is very true. The care you will receive is top notch. I was a little nervous to have my tooth extracted and was very new to the world of dental implants - everything was explained to me in terms that were non threatening and informative. I was incredibly comfortable during the extraction and bone graft. I called him that night to check in after the novocaine had worn off and called him over the weekend when I thought something didn't seem right. He fit me in immediately to check on everything. I recently had my routine cleaning at this office too and had the best experience with Kaitlyn. She was so thorough and took extra care and precaution while cleaning since I have very sensitive teeth. I love going to this office and will continue my cleanings here. I was referred to Dr.Nevins by my dentist for an implant. It was the best thing that my dentist has ever done for me. Words cannot explain the exceptional service I received and how great my new tooth looks (and it's a front tooth). People can't believe it's an implant. His staff is so nice. They even remember my name every time I come in, even if it has been months since I have been in the office. Before I went to see Dr. Nevins I saw 5 other periodontist to get an implant. I am so happy I chose Dr.Nevins. He didn't rush me, he uses the most up to date technology, and you can see he loves doing this. I feel like it's his craft. Dr. Nevins made sure that my gums looked right and that before I had surgery there were no issues. He explained in detail, every time, why certain procedures or x-rays were being done. He also did not surprise me with a bill at the last minute. He gave me the breakdown of the prices months before we decided to have the surgery. The admin staff, Kathy and Stacy are so helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to pricing, payments, and insurance information. The implant surgery itself was probably the least stressful dental surgery I have had. There was a whole staff there, they gave me a blanket to keep me warm, made sure I was very comfortable, and kept putting Vaseline on my lips to keep it from getting dry. Dr. Nevins is the very best in the business of new teeth in the world. His expertise and dedication is unequaled. I have had about as much oral surgery and tooth replacement as one poor mouth can have over the past 6 years and although it has been difficult, Dr. Nevins has been steadfast in seeing me through it. I now have a mouthful of gorgeous teeth in a very healthy mouth. For a lot of historical reasons, I first came to Dr. Nevins with a serious dental phobia. He and his wonderful staff saw me through that too. I was able to go through some serious procedures with almost no pain medication. When I got tired of all the hours in the chair, Dr. Nevins helped me persist. What can I say - I love the man. He turned my mouth around with patience, skill and absolute reliability. Expensive? Well I have a question for you up front: Is your procedure(s) being paid for by insurance or is even a portion of it paid out-of-pocket? if it's OOP, then please read on as this review is focused on cost. So, I was referred to this doctor by a knowledgeable friend with similar dental needs here in the Boston area. Dr. Nevins was referenced as a Harvard guy who is one of the better periodontist in this metro.  Dr. Nevins also had a father who was regarded highly in the dental community, I'm told. Hey, so far so good! What was not revealed is that this doctor is rather EXPENSIVE. Like on the high end of the industry spectrum. Ouch. You can appreciate this as you arrive in his state of the art and rather extravagant office. While this isn't the only barometer for measuring cost, I don't believe he shares the space with other doctors to defray expenses - so there you have it. No question, he seems like a good guy. Yes, Dr. Nevins does very good work and a nice presentation. Probably at the same level as other doctors around Boston with his credentials. However, here's what you need to know: Like any industry, these healthcare professionals are hard pressed to distinguish themselves from competition. Lots of competition. So, you're going to hear a lot about their 'reputation', newest clinical practices, high-end equipment, latest world class procedure;  blah, blah, blah.. So, with this knowledge, I would definitely get a quote from Dr. Nevins. Then I'd shop around and seek the opinion and $$ quote from other reputable periodontist(s) for your procedure. Particularly if your situation is the aforementioned 'out-of-pocket' financing. While all of the latest industry jargon, ground breaking procedures and 'state-of-the art' equipment sound real impressive to a prospective patient, it ultimately comes down to RESULTS. So, if you get the same intended RESULTS from another perio at a better price -  by all means take it!!  Perhaps it will be Dr. Nevins, which is marvelous. He's a top doctor. But do the exercise anyway. Finally, don't be misled. Hate to rain on their parade, but the breathtaking number of ultra positive rave reviews ('he's the greatest' ... 'number one guy''...'simply amazing') listed here sound suspiciously like they were 'solicited' from friends, family, neighbors, etc. No proof of course, you be the judge! Again, in all fairness, almost all healthcare professional now do some form of this. Power of social media, I guess. One last observation that I noticed in another review. I don't mean to pile on, but yes Dr. Nevins does have this annoying habit of inexplicably leaving the room in mid-procedure just when you'll have the most questions and concerns. He leaves that task for his subordinates. I'm sure Dr. Nevins is concurrently tending to other patients that day, but it's rather disconcerting considering the $$ you're laying out. Just a thought. Dr. Nevins performed an extraction and implant procedure and also fixed some of the errors that a previous, less-skilled, periodontist left me with. Compared to my previous periodontist experience, Nevins is a night and day different with a high level of skill and care. His prices are higher and that extra money buys you things like a custom-made guide so that the implant is placed perfectly in a spot where there is no margin for error. Nevins is on top of his game, keeping up with current dentals tools and current research studies, which he will freely recite to you as it relates to your specific case. During the initial consult, he wanted me to ask him questions about every detail of the plan, which is in contrast to my prior periodontal experience where the doctor got tired of my questions. The actual procedure was no more traumatic than a dental cleaning; there were no drill sounds and I had no pain. Really remarkable. During the procedure, Nevins would update me after each milestone was completed. The post-procedure x-ray showed an implant that was perfectly centered and within 4 hours, I was going about my normal day. 12 and 24 hours after the procedure, both Nevins and his staff followed up with me via text and phone to see how I was recovering. During the recovery, I was provided with a custom Invisalign-like retainer that had a fake tooth filled in for where the extraction had occurred. The retainer is crafted so well that I can smile for photos at events and no one can tell that I am temporarily missing a tooth. After having lived for over a year with a prior periodontist's errors, Nevins really saved the day for me. read more

I have nothing but superlatives for Dr. Nevins. You should go to him. That's really all one needs to know, but if you'd like more information about my experience, please read on. In spite of regular appointments, x-rays and cleanings over many years my regular dentist failed to notice the development of advanced gum disease resulting in significant bone loss. I felt no pain and had no symptoms whatsoever. In retrospect the only good thing my dentist did for me was to refer me to Dr. Nevins, after finally noticing the depth of the pit around one tooth due to chronic infection. The situation was so severe and so advanced that the nerves in my jaw were nearly affected. Dr. Nevins extracted the tooth and treated the area in a way that allowed the bone to regenerate itself in ten months, permitting an implant. I shudder to think what would ultimately have happened had I not come to him. In addition, I underwent LANAP laser gum "surgery" for problems throughout my mouth. The results have been dramatic in improving my overall gum health. The procedure itself was virtually painless. I needed no painkillers afterwards and experienced no swelling whatsoever. Throughout these procedures Dr. Nevins kept me well-informed, told me exactly what he was going to do, what I should expect, and what was likely to be the outcome. He is an internationally respected scholar and professor at Harvard in addition to being a hands-on practicioner. The new procedures he uses are tried and true enough to be reliable and at the same time are light years ahead of traditional surgery. I was referred to Dr. Nevins by my wife who has been treated by him a number of times. I needed an implant to replace a tooth that was damaged in adolescence by a medical error. On my initial visits I was impressed by his professional office, friendly staff and comprehensive explanation of my treatment plan. The subsequent procedures were surprisingly pain free. He always uses a topical anesthetic so there's none of the pinching and stinging I associate with needles in the dentist chair. And I always felt he was providing the best possible care which gave be a lot of confidence and relief. I was referred to Dr Nevins by my primary dentist last year after they noticed a bump on my gum above my front tooth. I soon learnt that I would have to have my front tooth removed and have a dental implant put in. This news was terrifying to me! The cost, the pain, and the embarrassment of being without a front tooth, oh my. Dr Nevins and his staff were absolutely incredible providing excellent care, talking me through things, explaining things a million times if I needed it, and practically holding my hand during procedures (not Dr Nevins, obviously, but one of his many assistants). Dr Nevins is the rock star of periodontics with state of the art tools and procedures under his belt. The tooth extraction was quicker and easier than most fillings I've had. The office is spotless and has pretty nice views to boot. I hope I never have to go through this process again but I would go back to him in a heartbeat if I did. read more

Dr. Nevins, his staff and office are A+++. I had to have an implant done on my front tooth after a hockey injury 20 years ago and multiple different procedures and crowns. I was referred to Dr. Nevins from another esteemed local dentist as he was "the best" and I now agree. Although the procedure was very expensive, it was well worth the $$. I have spent probably 6 months of my life in the dentisit chair due to the lack of wearing facial protection on the ice. Dr. Nevins was so precise with his work that my implant looks flawless. When he conducted the procedure he had given me just the right amount of novocaine to numb the area he was working. After about 20 mins I felt it starting to wear off and I raised my hand to get his attention and tell him I was regaining feeling. When he turned around he already had the needle in his hand to give me a little more. I always loathe leaving the dentist with no feeling in my mouth for three hours because of the novocaine. This didn't happen with Dr. Nevins. He was so precise and such a perfectionist with the novocaine that when I walked out the numbness had already begun wearing off. This is just one example of Dr. Nevins' precision, which I truly appreciate in my dentist. Dr. Nevins is very much a perfectionist and it shows. Fantastic looking office + 30mn late while i was the first appointment in the morning. Totally wasting my time. Then after 5mn of looking at me, he goes on to tell me: "ok, we ll give you the standard procedure, which is blah blah .... do you have any questions for me?" I simply asked how important it was to do and when it needed to be done. I got the sales pitch again "you can't wait too long, don't want to lose the momentum, your teeth are important. Allright, my assitant will now take over, please pay $160 at the front desk". $160 for 10mn of work! Wow, that s $1000 per hour or about $10,000 per day or $2M a year for just checking people out and not doing anything??? His prices are outrageous, this is why he can pay for the luxury office. His staff does not want to take standard dental insurances, you have to pay with your credit card and then get attitude on the way out. Bad service, I would not want to trust my gums to this office, looked more slick and sales oriented than concerned with my health. read more

Dr. Nevins saved my teeth. After over five (yes, five) years trying unsuccessfully to get an implant at another place, I was ready to throw in the towel and resign myself to never chewing on my left side again. I had lost a molar in the back of my upper jaw, and my sinus was so low that the roots of the tooth penetrated into the sinus cavity. That may be OK for natural teeth, but implants need to be anchored into bone, so a sinus lift (aka a bone graft) was required. The loss of the tooth and the subsequent hole in the sinus caused sinus infections which spread to the neighboring tooth and that one had to be taken out as well. Numerous attempts at placing a bone graft were unsuccessful, and once enough bone was built up, it wasn't strong enough to hold the implant that the other surgeon had placed, so that it eventually failed. As a last resort, I went to Dr. Nevins for a consultation. In his calm, friendly manner, he said that my situation was difficult but not hopeless. He had me go for a CAT scan and then created a computerized 3D model of the area, which allowed him to plan the best placement for the implants. The first surgery, another bone graft, was very long, something over an hour. I was impressed how Dr. Nevins never lost his concentration during the long and difficult procedure, his movements always assured. I felt that I was in the hands of a very skilled surgeon. Even the stitches felt particularly neatly and evenly placed. The area healed well and the graft took like a charm. Even Dr. Nevins's father (also a dental surgeon), who was present during one of the follow up visits, was impressed! The second surgery was for placing the implants, which was comparatively a piece of cake. Dr. Nevins had a guide made based off the computer model, to show him where to drill the holes for the implants. He also grafted some gum over the area to make sure that it would hold the new teeth. Overall, I believe that Dr. Nevins's careful, methodical approach, combined with his skill as a surgeon is what made the surgery a success. Now, my teeth are restored and I can enjoy all the steak I want. I recommend Dr. Nevins to anyone in the unfortunate predicament of needing dental surgery. He has also performed a crown lengthening procedure on two teeth and that was much less of an ordeal but also very well done. I can't forget to mention all the wonderful staff in the office. The office itself is very clean and modern, and there are always fresh flowers at reception. Everyone who works there is very friendly and competent. It is clear that the doctor takes great pride in his practice. I hope not to see Dr. Nevins anytime soon, but should I be needing more implants in the future, I will never go to anyone else.
