This is our go-to after a round of golf. Why? Good menu of food and drinks that always hit the spot. On a hot day? Free refills of an icy soda! A standout today was the clam chowder of all things... nice buttery and creamy chowder. I also had the Grand Pit with brisket and hot links. Service was good, food was good, and o saw a funny sign in the parking lot. We'll be back!

I was craving pork ribs so we decided to skip the typical Easter brunch after Sunday Mass and went straight to lunch. Back Forty has a special place in my heart. My pops used to bring home beef ribs for dinner and I used to be so excited whenever I saw it on the dinner table. I didn't order the beef ribs this time around, but I do recommended it! Parking can be a challenge on a busy evening, but we arrived early and found parking with no issues. This establishment gives all-out Western vibes from the moment you pull up to checking in. All that's missing are the horses stables and horses. But I really do wish that they would add a mechanical bull in the open space outside next to the windows. That would add a cherry on top! All dreams and wishes aside, we were seated immediately and our eyes went right to the menu. They really take pride in their service because I haven't had one bad experience dining here. Anyway, I ordered pork ribs, 1/4 chicken, cornbread, and onion rings. For my dessert choice, I ordered the bread pudding. The pork ribs weren't fall-off-the-bone ribs, but they were tender. The chicken was moist and seasoned, onion rings were huge, and the cornbread was amazing. I love their cornbread! My bf ordered the Texas Outlaw burger....WOW! It was so good! Remember the Burger King Rodeo burger? It reminded me of that but 10 times better! 5 stars for the service and delicious bbq! Big shout out to our servers who were very attentive and made our dining experience on Easter Sunday memorable.

I love a good classic Rueben and I love a place that uses real, tender corned beef. They definitely passed my Reuben test with taste. Their baked potatoes with the works was yummy BUT the bacon bits remind me of the imitation red bacon crunches from McCormick. They don't really taste like bacon, but burnt super crunchy bacon morsels that are greasy, crispy and hard, wasn't a fan honestly. Just cook bacon and chop it up, but to each their own!

We came here for some smoked meat and I ordered the Grand Pit combo. I had a choice of meats and chose to have pork ribs, chicken and juicy brisket. It came with two sides and I chose scallop potatoes and Caesar salad. I was hungry and forgot to take pictures of the meal but it was plenty of food and I had it for lunch the next day. Everything was good including the service. The place has plenty of tables to dine in and a good bar close to the entrance for a variety of drinks to choose from. Overall experience is great and definitely a good choice.

Tri tip sandwich- meat was tender and tasty, the roll was fresh with a soft inside and crispy outer. Baby back ribs- I was impressed with these, they're the best ribs I've found in a while and I'm happy to have found them! Both sides we had were great- sweet potato fries and garlic mash The cornbread was a let down- kinda hard and dry Overall our food experience this trip was a solid 9/10- only point lost for the bread! We sat in the bar and the bartender/server was super sweet and friendly and was the first server I've been impressed by their service specifically in quite some time, 10/10. I overheard her exchanges with the other guests in the area and she was wonderful and present with everyone. Name on reciept was 'AM B'- if you want to recognize her, Back Forty! Great country playlist with the good hits from the 90s-2000s- very nostalgic

I haven't been here in YEARS! But, I'm glad to say nothing has changed and everything was just as I remembered it from the golden corn bread with honey butter, the Smokey bbq'd juicy chicken to the wet nap at the end. It was so nostalgic to me and brought a smile to my face. The service was prompt and friendly. I will definitely be back sooner than later

Back Forty was the venue for my good friend's retirement party on 08/22/2025 after a distinguished 27-year career in law enforcement. Setting up this party was a challenge because we had a tight time window to work with. Adrian and his staff made this somewhat stressful situation an absolute breeze. They were responsive, easy to work with, and transparent with the pricing. For buffet service, it was $50 per person, which included three main entrees, two sides, bread and salad, coffee, and assorted desserts. Open bar was extra. On the night of the party, Javi and his team took care of us and provided excellent service. I arrived early and the banquet room was already ready for us. The western themed decor was beautiful. As for the food, the smoked brisket, BBQ chicken, and ribs were all delicious. I heard no complaints. I absolutely recommend Back Forty if you need a venue for a big party. They will not disappoint. 5 stars.

What happened?!? New ownership? New chef? I wish I took a pic of the new menu so others can truly see the difference. No Mac and cheese. Hot links were something you can get from the supermarket. It wasn't your usually bbq hot link. Prices are high. Menu drastically sized down. Grand pit for $41. Nothing else was as appealing so we decided to share the grand pit. Come to think about it, it said it came with dessert and our server never reminded us of that. So, we really didn't get what we paid for. Also, the bread basket changed to just one kind of dinner rolls rather than the variety they used to give. At least it was warm, though. Service was painfully slow. There were moments when we were actually looking for our server. Something's definitely changed and not for the better. They used to have great BBQ and prices. Now, I can't even recommend this place anymore.

Hubby and I had not had BBQ in a while and when we crave it we head here. I love that as soon as you approach front they welcome you and if you are lucky they will take you to a table or booth if not busy. I noticed the menu has been updated along with prices. Everything is a little more than usual. I ordered the Sunup martini, grand pit grand pit with 3 meats (brisket, pork ribs and bbq chicken. My drink came out and wow it was so delicious! Would definitely get that one again. Our food came out not long after and it was just as good as we remembered and of course we had a lot of leftovers to bring home. Our server was wonderful and attentive. The place was not as busy which I appreciated because it was nice and quiet. Everyone was just so friendly and helpful too. Glad that they are consistently good with food and service.

    8 oz prime rib

Came here with my family to celebrate my brother in law's birthday so here we are. I ordered the 8 oz prime rib with a baked potato and seasonal vegetables on the side. The prime rib was soo juicy and the veggies compliment it well. The baked potato was nice and filling. I also really liked the warm and soft complimentary bread they served us. The service here was really good as well. The place was packed, yet the staff worked hard to be able to check in with us frequently. Food also came out at a reasonable pace. Definitely recommend checking this spot out, Try it out if you like. :)

My previous visit to Back 40 was quite disappointing and I posted a truthful review of my experience. They contacted me for a redo meal on the house and here is the report 1This time a basket of bread rolls was delivered to my table without asking. I heard other customers being offered rolls or cornbread. On our previous trip no one was getting bread. 2. Just a comment I saw other people eating beef ribs but I did not see them on the menu I was given . 3. Restaurant was busy and our server and accomplices took good care of us and the customers around our table 4. My wife had the Ceaser salad as a side we shared it and it was good 5. I had the prime rib and it was excellent. The baked potato was one of the best I had ever had in my life 6. My wife had the Cowboy steak and it was incredible and cut like butter. I was envious of my wife's steak. The side crispy potato wedges were perfect. 7. For desert we had the peach cobbler not a crumb was left 8. We left full satisfied and happy OK for Back 40 management . We realize we had eyes in the kitchen making sure our food was done right. The customers around us seemed to be enjoying their dining experience . The moral of the story is If you actually follow your processes and procedures concerning food prep your food can be amazing.

It is Father's Day and we came here for my hubby's favorite brisket. We were just here on Mother's Day. Their menu has changed significantly. No more of the platters or combos. The sides for the entree's are extra cost. I guess they are moving more towards a la carte. And the prices went up a lot. My granddaughter wanted grilled cheese, fries and apple juice. $12!!! And a scoop of ice cream is $3! Let's talk about the food! It is Father's day! How can you run out of brisket, pork ribs and beef ribs? I wish you told us that when we checked in and we could have decided to stay or go elsewhere. We were already seated and was ready to order before we were told that they had run out of brisket. So we had to pick other entrees from the menu since we all wanted the brisket. We were 6 unsatisfied diners. The server was nice, but they were so busy. And the kitchen was backed up. Again, this should have been anticipated and should have had additional staff. It took forever to get our food, and the dinner rolls were cold, felt like it just came from the ref. Really!?! The rolls could not be heated properly? Now, we consider Texas Back Forty an expensive restaurant and it is not worth it! Not recommended!

Ambiance: This place definitely feels like an old Texas steakhouse. Service: The service was impeccable. Polite, friendly, and made very good suggestions. Food: Full disclosure; I am a 3rd Generation Texan- born and bred. After serving in the Army at Fort Ord, I made my home in NorCal. I go home to Texas 2-3 times a year for good steaks and BBQ. Never found a place in CA that could match up in over 40 years. Until now, every part of our meal was first rate. The brisket was cooked perfectly. Seriously, I was shocked. The Pulled Pork was exceptional. The ribs and hot links were amazing as well. The smoke ring was distinguishing. I prefer Red Oak and Mesquite with cherry wood. But their white oak did a wonderful job. The Pit Master is truly a master in preparing excellent quality BBQ. Do not go to any other place for BBQ in CA; this is it. I was truly impressed and satisfied as if I was at home. Oh, don't forget the Sweet Tea, perfectly balanced.
