I went to this place after checking out another chiropractor here in Long Beach for Shockwave treatment for my knees. I was going to go to the one in Long Beach except Dr Rodney talk me into coming and talking to him and he convinced me by including other things in the price other than the Shockwave. I was going to pay $3,000 at the one in Long Beach and I told them if you can beat the price then I will come to you guys. Well they ended up actually charging me more than the $3,000 price. So here's what happened I went and I spoke to Dr Rodney very nice man he gives you his speel about how Shockwave can help your knees doesn't guarantee 100%. It's like 60 to 80% that your knees will get better. I brought an x-ray to show how bad my knees were. He saw the X-ray and he said they were pretty bad but that the Shockwave would help. He also mentioned that there was other things that were included like knee compression, red light therapy some other electrotherapy. The knee decompression is very painful and I let them know that. He Never told me that he was going to charge me for these. I found out later they charged me $100 without letting me know. Of Course he claims that he doesn't remember saying that. Anyway through the treatment I was actually feeling worse not better my knees were hurting a lot I was giving it a chance only because of how nice the people are there. Violet and Patricia are very nice people and I don't have anything bad to say about them. What I need to say is that this treatment did not do anything for me. I went back to speak to Dr Rodney with new x-rays to show him that this $3,000 plus $100 treatment did nothing for me which is the Shockwave treatment,and any of the extra stuff that he included in there that did nothing for me. So I wanted to work something out because I don't have $3,000 to waste for something that didn't help me. During the treatment I had to stop a few of the Shockwave treatments and wait a few weeks because my legs were hurting so much worse and also my knees. It wasn't helping me. The last meeting I had with Dr Rodney he saw my x-rays my new one and said wow your knees are bad and like he didn't know that in the first place? He did .I told him you obviously wanted to make a sale so bad that you knew even though my knees were bad that this wasn't going to help me. I went through your treatment you see now with the new x-rays that it did nothing for me. He was surprised cuz he thought that it had done something but I don't know how he could think that since I was constantly telling them how bad my knees were feeling during the treatment. I felt like I should have gotten a partial refund because of the fact that the whole time I went there nothing worked. Even if it would have been 60% then I would have left it alone but it wasn't even that good. They make you sign something at the end that says they're not they don't give you a guarantee that it will work, but yet they'll take your money first and if you ask for anything back that's when they show you there's no guarantees. I guess well I'll guarantee you when I talk to other people that were there and asking them if it was helping them they weren't seeing much of a difference either. I tried talking to Dr Rodney and letting him work something out with me that would be fair since I paid over $3,100 for something that didn't work . Well he said I didn't deserve anything back. That's wrong. My warning is that if you decide to do this Shockwave go to an orthopedic doctor first to make sure that your knees aren't bad enough that you would waste your money when they will tell you that it'll help you and it doesn't. Especially since they give no guarantees although he Dr Rodney said at least 60 to 80%. Of course when I talk to him the second time he claims that he didn't say it would ,which isn't true. He wanted the sale bad enough where he said that it would get better well it didn't get better it got worse. I will reiterate I tried working something out before posting this but I find that there wasn't any other choice but to let other people know not to do Shockwave unless you speak to an actual orthopedic doctor if your knees are so bad like mine were I wouldn't have spent all that money for nothing. As I have gotten older, mysterious injuries and ailments seem to come and go with more frequency. I first went to Back In Action after an extreme session of sleep where my back just decided to be the source of tremendous pain. Dr. Ruge did a comprehensive evaluation which included X-rays and was able to diagnose some issues that were a result of decades of compensatory injuries stemming from a car accident. From that point on I have been receiving treatment which includes stretching, exercises, "adjustments" (cracking on the back to break up scar tissue and stiffness) and my favorite which is called spinal decompression. During the Spanish Inquisition, the rack was considered a torture technique but now modern medicine has figured out a way to relieve pressure on my neck and now lower back to give my spine much needed relief by allowing the disks to decompress via spinal decompression. I had previously visited this office several years ago, but my experience was negative enough to want to warn people after signing up for yelp today. Dr. Ruge and Violet seem to be nice people, but their "treatments" are very, very suspect - rather than finding out what my issues were and trying to come up with real solutions, Dr. Ruge seemed to be more interested in painting a picture for insurance to charge me for overpriced "sessions", which consisted of less than 10 seconds of manual manipulation and half an hour of wearing an hot pack or ice pack. I was never told what the prices were up front, and when I discovered that the fees were far in excess of what insurance would cover, I was threatened with collections unless I paid the price of all his "treatments". read more

The office manager, Violet, who is also the doctor's girlfriend, put me on a one-year treatment plan and told me she'd give me a 20% discount if I prepaid. Don't fall into their gimmick, they just want your money upfront. Just pay as you go and if they tell you that the cost will be higher if you don't commit to a long-term plan, go somewhere else (see below). It's a bad sign that they care more about money than your health. Besides, it's not good business practice to charge different rates like this. It didn't really occur to me at the time what I was signing up for because they put you in the back room and ask you a bunch of questions that yield "yes" responses (i.e, do you want better health? Do you want the pain to go away?), that by the time you're asked to make a financial commitment, you're just saying "yes" to everything. I thought I was getting a good deal with the discount, unfortunately I moved out of town so I wasn't able to finish the rest of my visits. They never gave me a refund for my unused visits. I pursued them about it since Oct'14 and they kept giving me the runaround. I also found out later that they are NOT a member of BBB. Yikes. It is not often that one can meet up with a health professional who not only tailors what he does to you as one individual, but he works in such a manner than he ferrets out what can lead to rather dramatic improvements in a short period of time. Such a doctor is Rodney Ruge, D.C. An initial consultation prompted this accounting: Pain pain go away! Please do not come back another day. Same for Leg Swelling. With a history of stroke from 11/03, I have experienced constant "hemianesthesia" or right sided-numbness. This is peculiar in that it is not total numbness. Touch me and I can feel the touch. If I get into a swimming pool it is possible to identify all the areas that are numb. Lying on my right side feels like the equivalent of lying on a board. So, with this chronic situation over the past 9 years, it was unfortunate that an incident occurred when I was a passenger in a taxi. The driver drove up and then down a curb, causing 2 severe jolts. With pre-existing herniations in my lumbar spine and other spinal difficulties higher up, I immediately became symptomatic. When I saw a doctor 2 days later, the question came up if I was aware of the swelling in my legs. I was not. Apparently I had experienced swelling in my legs which was profound and which had not been there before. After being first identified by a medical doctor, it was then verified as an issue by a chiropractor. When there was no resolution of the swelling, I was advised to bring the issue to an internist. The recommendation was to be prescribed a medication aimed at lowering blood pressure and reducing the swelling. I was on the medication for 9 months. Some months later, I was evaluated by Dr. Ruge. During the course of his extensive evaluation, he did some minor adjustments in my upper back. The next morning I woke up and the leg swelling had disappeared. I observed this for a few days, and when the swelling did not return, I called the M.D. and asked if it was okay just to stop the medication since I no longer had the leg swelling. Answer: Yes with the proviso that if the swelling returned, I could resume the medication. Months later, the swelling has not returned. So where do I begin?? For well over ten years I've lived with this nagging shoulder pain that eventually augmented to debilitating symptoms that prevented me from playing the sport I love, beach volleyball. Dr. Ruge and Violet are consummate professionals. I have been to a few chiropractors and masseuses over the years and they are the best at both. Dr. Ruge treated me for whiplash a couple of years ago and I go now for regular adjustments. He is very knowledgeable, really listens, and is upbeat, funny, and spiritual. The pre-adjustment room has a water table and a roller table. You get the full treatment if you want it. Other places shove you in and out so fast you can barely lay down before it's over. I also try to go in weekly for a massage. Violet can do deep tissue like no other. In addition, she is very big on essential oils. She cured me of computer-related arm pain. I was on disability for it but now I'm fine. They both are into total wellness and will bring about actual results!
