My husband loved the $20 deal for five domestic bottles and either 20 wings or 4 (big) sliders that is offered during college or NFL football games. He went for the Yuengling domestic bottles. Our favorite foods include the indulgent blue cheese garlic bread, Jack Daniels wings, chopped salad, eggplant pizza, and any of their burgers! Just visited the back nine for the first time after golfing 18 holes. We had Gina as a server!! She was excellent and I loved her personality. She was professional but also had a great sense of humor. I will definitely be back here again and hopefully I have Gina again as my server. I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place. It's one of the closest restaurants to our house so we have been here enough in the last 4 years that the lunch waitstaff know us. I'm very partial to their buffalo wings. So good without being too greasy or saucy, and blue cheese dressing has big lumps of cheese. Both the chopped salad and the wedge salad are enormous and always fresh. The pizza is reliably good. My husband really likes their steak sandwich. And when they have them, absolutely stellar hot lobster rolls. Only a couple of drawbacks. First, parking is good in the winter but in the summer it's awful, even on rainy days. If you go at 6pm on a nice day, be prepared to walk from Mary Our Queen across the street. Second, if you pick up, which we often do, there's no easy way to collect your order because it's seat yourself; you have to pay at the bar and hope they're not too busy to flag down a server to get it for you. Frequently on take out if you order wings the celery is limp and old. Luckily I opt for a salad with it so I don't care as much and just toss the celery. This is my favorite place to enjoy an afternoon outside, sip on a drink, and grab a bite to eat. Such a peaceful atmosphere overlooking the golf course. Attentive service. I love the buffalo chicken wrap and the meatball app is SO good (that sauce and ricotta tho ). Also of note; their banquet area is great...we held a birthday gathering there. I've been to the back nine a couple of times. The service is generally good if you're a regular but if not, good luck having a friendly encounter with anybody that works there. Recently I went there but made a mistake on the tip. Before I could correct my mistake the "bartender" rudely asked "how was the service because you didn't tip enough." Instead of listening to a response she stormed off to pout without caring about my reasoning. I left her an extra tip on the bar to correct my mistake but I wish I hadn't due to the attitude she had. I have never experienced a bartender questioning the amount a costumer has tipped and I would have been receptive to her questioning my tip with it being a mistake if I wasn't approached in such a rude manner. Regardless I did the right thing and tipped her the proper amount even though the way I was treated was uncalled for. This has completely turned off to a facility in which I used to enjoy going to. Better have an in if you expect to be treated with respect. read more

This establishment looked inviting pulling up but then once me and my friends got inside it quickly went down hill. We went last night ( Halloween weekend) to enjoy a night out and since this is a bar you would think they would have someone checking I.Ds and making sure everyone was of age. Not one person including the "bartenders" asked for I.Ds Also because it's Halloween you would think they'd have a sign or someone checking for costumes that are appropriate. Getting a drink at this place was IMPOSSIBLE! 3 bartenders and over a 30 minute wait for 3 beers and a water that she didn't even give us.. UNACCEPTABLE! We clearly said we'd ordered a water and she turned her back to us. Everyone that works in this industry including myself would know bartenders divide the bar and go up and down the line. Being polite and saying "sorry for the wait I'll get you next" is part of the business. Rolling your eyes and feeling like your customers are bothering you is how you lose business. It was also clear who were the regulars and friends of these bartenders because they focused their attention to one side of the bar. Multiple people around us were getting annoyed because they weren't coming to one side of the bar. Management should really take control and train these bartenders how to hustle, make some money, and proper etiquette. What really took this over the edge was the TWO fights that we happened to see before we left! The first one was 2 guys that start to push and shove each other which eventually lead to their fists! WHERE ARE THE BOUNCERS!!!!!!!! For the amount of people in the bar they should've had 1 at the front and back door and 1 standing inside the bar. Luckily no one pulled a knife and their friends broke them apart. The next fight was from a girl who was with a group of her friends and was asking for their tab to be closed. Like I said previously these bartenders were rude. I was standing on the further end of the bar and this bartender was rolling her eyes and not closing their tab so they could leave. Why? Who knows..the bartender didn't seem busy and if so a simple I'm sorry I'll be with you in a second would do. None of that happened. This bartender started raising her voice and saying rude comments. HELLO WHERE'S THE MANAGER!! From there it escalated! The bartender called the girl a C*** B**** and some other random girl across the bar was saying to kick them out. The girl threw her drink at the bartender that called her names and left. Yes it was poorly handled but due to what was said and how they were treated as CUSTOMERS I don't blame her. The staff should always take the high road and handle it with class. As the girl was leaving, this random guy was about to grab her when I'm thinking her boyfriend stood in front to say they were leaving and it's not necessary when he was pushed and punched in the face! This caused multiple people to follow them including the bartender to go after them! What happened I'm not sure but Back Nine should be embarrassed of how this situation was handled. We left shortly after and saw it still escalating in the parking lot with a crowd threatening those 2 people and the group they were with...again WHERE ARE THE BOUNCERS?!!! Needless to say my friends and I will never go back to the Back Nine. The professionalism isn't there and is lacking leadership and safety for both their staff & customers. read more

Came here for Paint Nite actually, but had dinner beforehand. I wasn't sure what to expect but our food was pretty good. I loved the chicken pesto pizza! I ordered the personal size and it was huge. Took some leftovers home as I couldn't finish it all. The potato skins were also yummy. The outdoor seating is nice here, as they have some tables with umbrellas and I think like 3 larger tables with fire in the middle. Def a nice touch if it's chilly out so you can sit at one of those tables. Service was ok, but I took off a star because the parking situation sucks here. Being that it's at the country club, the parking lot is cramped and full, so either you need to hover for a while looking for someone to leave, or you just park at the church across the street. I don't mind walking but if it's later at night it's not super well lit walking back to your car. read more

I've only heard good things about this place, so I was looking forward to a convenient dinner close to home in a nice setting on the golf course. It did not go as planned. We had to ask twice to get our dirty table wiped clean. We had to ask three times for water. We had to ask for place settings after we got our appetizers. The macaroni and cheese "balls" were triangles that had clearly come out of a frozen bag from the grocery store. They ran out of Sam Summer by 9pm on a Saturday. The next best option for a summery beer was Shock Top, so I ordered that instead. There was a bone in the chicken of my chicken Cesar salad (the salad was taken off my bill, but I obviously lost my appetite at that point). My husband's hot dog was fine, but his fries were good. When I asked for a refill of the Shock Top, the waitress came back and said that they ran out of Sam Summer. Never mind. As we left, we noticed that tables had been wiped clean, but the seats still had a bunch of crap on them. I then realized that I had to brush stuff off of my butt. This is probably a fun place to have a beer on the patio and enjoy the summer weather for those who don't mind a limited beer list, but the cleanliness, service, and food will prevent us from dining here again. read more

My girlfriend and I tried this place in the back hills of Southington just because. We have been to everywhere in the Hartford county area. We have experienced all types of food. First off we sat down in the restaurant part and stayed away from the bar which was a good choice because the bar was loud and over crowed. Once we sat down we new we were not in any rush to do anything or go anywhere afterward because that is just our general makeup, but I am not one to complain but it took almost 10 minutes to be served by the staff. Once the staff came to take our order my girlfriend and I decided to put in some appetizers before anything. This restaurant is like most restaurants and claim that all of there food is great. But the buffalo chicken wings were nothing to write home about. I have had far better. Also we got a cheesy garlic bread which was surprisingly excellent. Or actually let me rephrase that, the parts that weren't burnt were awesome, but the one other knock with the bread was,there was no pasta sauce on the side to dip the bread in. Clearly not impressed. Once the appetizers came our main dish came shortly after which was actually to fast because we could not totally finish our appetizers. Our main dish was a large cheese pie which we split for the simple fact that the menu in my personal opinion was very limited to junk food such as hamburgers, hot dogs, and other food that is quick to prepare. For a country club I am very disappointed in the menu and service. If I wanted junk food I would have good to Burger King. But back to the main course the cheese pie; the pie was horrible and for me to say that about anything is saying a lot about a meal because I eat and finish everything. This pie was cooked hot and fresh but for some reason it had a fishy smell to it. I remember that there was a salmon burger on the menu and the pie tasted a lot like that. I don't know what was wrong with the pie, but nevertheless what the small and taste was it was horrible. Also the crust was not crunchy it was burnt and rock hard. If I was a senior citizen with dentures I wouldn't have not able to eat the pie. When it came to taking the pie home we said yes to taking it home because we did not want to be rude because a big portion was left over. On the way home my girlfriend and I were so upset with the restaurant and food that we stopped to get gas and dumped the left over pie in the trash. All and all the restaurant lay out was great and the service once they came to the table was average but the food had its highs and its lows. More lows than highs if you know what I mean. Hopefully I save the next person the trouble of going here for a meal. I would not go back if I was paid to go back. read more

My grandson is a fanatic for the pizza. We have a ritual every other Wednesday is pizza with Grampy. I have always been pleased with the service. In regards to the food other than our love for a good Pie I would say is decent at best. It's a family environment Or at least it was. After a deposition running much later than expected I thought of picking up a bite to eat as I was driving by. In walking through the door I was greeted by the young man who is permit holder of the establishment with his pants around his knees, As the lovely bartender commented inappropriately. It may have been somewhat late in the evening as the kitchen was closed. An almost belligerent bartender who found it appropriate to do a shot with four gentleman at the bar while standing in front of a sign which forbid the drinking of alcohol during work hours. I would have to say that rule should be enforced . Needless to say after that Wednesday we will not be coming back. read more

We just wanted to have some drinks at a bar and appetizers. So if someone could explain the seating. We were told it was first come first serve. You don't leave your name. So when a table opened up you had to run and/or fight for it. I understand in the bar this would be the case. Our experience WAS in the bar where we stood in everyone's way with our drinks. We couldn't relax because we had to be on alert to swoop down on a seat if there was any indication a person was leaving. Typical I suppose but when you could hear comments of how other people waiting were "going to make sure" they got that table - it was totally unfriendly. It was also the case the small dining room. It made no sense. At least you'd think they'd take names for the dining room. Either way I didn't want to beat up anyone to get a table. I guess we'll try this summer when there's more room. read more

We went a recommendation of a relative, we started by sitting outside, but had to move inside due to the cold. Shortly after we moved inside, the bar started to get busy. ABSOLUTELY no regard for the COVID Protocols. The manager was wearing his mask below his chin on both sides of the bar. The customers standing did not have masks on, and they were at one point 3 people deep with masks. People entering and leaving without masks. Others wearing them below their chins. After speaking with the manager, he assured me things were handled, as he's assuring me more than 4 people walk passed him into the bar without masks and they were never asked to put one on. The staff member who heard me made a point of telling me he would put his on, but leaned between the table we were at the one behind us, without his mask so that they could flirt with the girls at the table. There was no social distancing no respect for those who have lost their lives to COVID, a used car salesman promise that this would be handled only to watch it repeat itself. The food was very salty, the waitress was nice enough, but the food and the lack of caring for public health made me wonder if they're taking short cuts with things in plain site that could get them shut down, what shortcuts were they taking in the back with the food. read more

Came here for our first time for dinner. Great, clean restaurant right on the golf course. Their pizza is really good. It's a nice, thin crust with great toppings. The atmosphere is lively and laid back with plenty of tv's for sport viewing. I had a bison burger that I will not order again. However everyone else's food for dinner tasted really good (chicken parmesian, filet mignon). I'm looking forward to ordering a pizza to take home in the future. read more

Went there last week on beautiful summer day. Sat on the patio. Nice setting. Food was very good and came out hot (which seems to be problem lately in a lot of places I have been going to lately). Why a 4? Waitress was very nice, but disappeared for long periods. I expect it has to with the way they have staff set up for outside and indoor duties. Also, my wives specialty cocktail (with less expensive liquor than my mix drink) was 9 dollars while mine was 6.50. This makes no sense. Still very nice experience. Just went there for lunch. Ordered the lobster roll special. Definitely not worth the $20. Never had mushy lobster before. Not sure what the policy is for the staff but I really don't think it involves the manager making shots for the bartender and wait staff. Seemed like they were a bunch of teenagers to begin with. Also not sure what was wrong with the beer taps but my husband's Coors Light tasted more like sparking water, that had just gone flat. Went with a friend for happy hour around 4:30. The choices for happy hr apps were small quantity for $6.00. So we decided to share small pizza. When the pizza cane out & put in front on us , we look at each other and said not very appetizing. The pizza had slices missing dough and looked like a mouse ate it. Lol. I went to the cook and said how can anyone serve a pizza like this! He agreed and took it back but now we had to wait another 20 min , now we wee ready to walk out then the pizza came out and we felt sauce was to sweet and wasn't happy with it. They charged us for the lousy pizza but bartender gave us a free beer instead. I love going to this place anytime I visit Connecticut. It's a beautiful view and the owner and staff are always pleasant. I am of mixed race and these comments below couldn't be more untrue. I have always been treated with utmost respect by all members of the staff. I have never once been treated poorly due to my race. I always have a good meal there and it is also great for drinks. I saw a girl throw a beer at the bartender on Friday night which is completely inappropriate to do and she was asked to leave. No matter what race you are, if you are acting in a violent manner you should be kicked out of an establishment; plain and simple. That has nothing to do with being racist, but more so cautious of safety of the rest of the people in the establishment. I will continue to come back to the Back Nine and I encourage others to do the same. Don't let a few negative reviews deter you from an awesome place. read more
