I Came here for the first time and had to order the award-winning chicken wings. Definitely was not disappointed! They are one of the best tasting wings that I have ever had. I ordered the lemon pepper and the Nashville hot dry rub both tasted so good. They had an extra little crunch to them that made them delicious. Our waitress/ bartender was Michaela. She was awesome. The whole vibe at this place was definitely very chill. I ended up buying the whole bar a Jell-O shot. They were on sale for one dollar each. Prices here are definitely fair! They even offered deals on certain days of the week. My sons and I are in search for hidden wing gems throughout the state. Yes, we love J.Tim's, appreciate the local flair of O-Joe's (both locations), and even admire the smoked wings in an around Torrington. Someone gave me the tip to try these as he thought they would "compete" with the aforementioned. For the first 5 min of my visit, I thought it might be the case. Here are the reasons to ABSOLUTELY GO!!!!! Even if a 30-45 min drive. 1) SERVICE - simply fantastic. Huge thanks to Destiny and the kitchen for making my experience great. 2) ATMOSPHERE - THIS IS the place I want to come to watch the games, for the long haul in the fall or playoff time! Great lighting. Music gives way to the game. Locals. Golf and bowling games. You name it. Fantastic. 3) THEIR BLUE CHEESE - unique. Delicious. Clearly house made. Makes the wing experience better. Here are the reasons I would only go if convenient: 1) THE FOOD - My chili to start only said beef chili on the menu. On first bite, there was a stinging salty taste of BACON. I have no problem eating bacon, but should say it on the menu for those who do not. And, that flavor profile is not what chili evokes. 2) THE WINGS - when the blue cheese and veggies came out, I was almost hyperventilating with excitement. The wings then came. Huge let down. Without going into the subtleties of the sauces, I'm more focused on deciding if they were frozen-pre-breaded wings or fresh wings with a salty/shake and bake coating on them. They're huge. They're crispy (kitchen is good). They're just not a traditional wing (should also say coated on the menu). 3) THEIR OIL - one of my wings was a delicious lemon pepper dry rub. So much promise. So crispy. Then, the flavor transfer hit. They must have fried fish on the menu. Same/old fry oil So my wings without a sauce (dry rub) tasted faintly of fried cod. Gross. I will go back. I liked the staff and feel enough. It could be fun. But it's not the hidden wing Mecca I will continue to search for. Service, feel, blue cheese earn all the stars.

Lots of fun at this place. The food is amazing the wing are considered award winning for a reason OMG. So good and crunchy. Plump wings and a great price if you come during the happy hour. The service was fantastic from all the staff making my group feel welcomed. Micaela and Chelsea were awesome in being entertaining for us the whole time.

Came in 2 hours before closing one night and we had such a great time! They were playing so many good songs and the atmosphere was such a good vibe! I got their cosmo and thought it was really good, my boyfriend also enjoyed his long island! I got their bacon ranch burger with fries and enjoyed it! It could've used a little more ranch but that may just be me because I love ranch, but I was impressed how good it was! And the prices are sooo reasonable! My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and thought the meat was so tender and flavorful. We will definitely be coming back! This is a great spot for watching sports or karaoke or bingo!

This place has been a staple in Southington, changing names over the years, but remaining my absolute go-to spot for food, brews, and unforgettable times with friends. After meeting the manager and promising a review, I'm excited to share why this place is so special. What makes The Salty Dog exceptional is The Salty Dog boasts an excellent selection of craft beers that would impress even the most discerning beer enthusiast. The sport bar vibe here is simply unbeatable - you can't find a more welcoming atmosphere anywhere else in town. There's two dishes that absolutely stole the show. The chili was incredibly unique with its own distinctive smoke flavor that sets it apart from any standard bar chili and the wings were quite frankly out of this world - perfectly cooked and seasoned. There's Plenty of parking and I'll be guaranteed a return visit next time I'm in town. For anyone looking for a fantastic local spot with great food, incredible brews, and an awesome atmosphere, The Salty Dog is the place to be!

I've been here before in person and the wings and fried pickles were excellent, with a great selection of drinks. They do a pretty good burger too. However, my recent takeout experience was subpar. I ordered a plain caesar salad for $13 and it was so small it barely even filled the small takeout container. I also ordered mozzarella sticks for $13 that were so overcooked they were barely edible. The marinara sauce was odd tasting as well. I couldn't believe I paid $26 for such poor quality food. Maybe it was just a busy night...but, yikes. If I order from here again, I'll stick to what I know is good.

Just experienced the best wings I've ever had in my life. The place is super cute and cozy. My service pup was welcomed and I enjoyed the atmosphere very much. Felt like a regular sport bar except with the best food ever. The server was super quick, attentive and gave me good recommendations . He was always around when we needed him! The lemon pepper wings are the best things I've ever had in my life. We got two orders and let me tell you, I will dream of them. I wish they sold the dry rub they use. I get why they're award winning. Thank you for great service great food and drink! I hope to be back soon and recommend 10/10

My wife and I stopped in during happy hour when a variety of drinks and food are discounted. We held dinner reservations elsewhere so our experience was limited to glasses of the house wine ($4 each). The house Cabernet turned out to be C. K. Mondavi which is better than expected given the price. The pub food that passed by, particularly the burger, reuben and fries, looked mouth watering. It's a sports bar so it was loud, way too loud for a pair of seniors, so it was a one and done experience for us, but, as they say, you should never say never so I won't say it.

This sports bar just updated their menu and added a new happy hour menu! Happy hour is daily- yes, weekends too!!! Staff here is very friendly. They are attentive and quick to take your order. I went there twice yesterday, once for happy hour & the other for dinner. I had the smash burger for happy hour and it was really good. It had caramelized onions, pickles and their house sauce. Loved it! For dinner I had the Big Dog grilled cheese. OMG it was amazing & I can't stop thinking about it! It has american & cheddar cheese, caramelized onions (yes i obviously love these), bacon & fig jam. Chef's kiss!!! This is a Sports bar so they have tvs all over with different sports games on. It's a lively atmosphere.

    Beer and 6 wing special

I learned about Salty Dog Tavern because I was looking for a relatively nearby wing spot I hadn't tried and the Wing Addicts Central CT Wing Trail pointed me there. It's essentially a neighborhood sports bar. Not fancy. But it's comfortable and there are many TV's. I arrived around 12:15 p.m. on a football Sunday game day. There were a few people there when I arrived, but by 1 p.m. game time, it was getting full. I sat at the bar. Service was friendly, helpful and efficient. They had a great special that is available at various times. 6 wings (they actually gave me 7) and a domestic draft (I went with Yuengling) for $10. That's basically the cost of the 6 wings, plus a free beer. I'll be making some plans to return for that deal. The Wing Addicts website recommended the Miso Honey and the Apple Jerk wings. I probably wouldn't have chosen either flavor on my own, but I think when you take a restaurant recommendation, you're usually better off taking an order recommendation from the same person. There is a lot to like about Salty Dog's chicken wings. They were meaty. Tasted fresh. Both wings were tender inside. The Miso Honey had a nice crispy texture outside. The Apple Jerk had a softer, almost slightly battered vibe. But it seemed like a style choice and it worked. I tried both the blue cheese and ranch. Both top tier for CT wing spots. Both flavors had a unique taste. I liked the Apple Jerk better. I tasted both apple flavor and jerk flavor, but neither was overpowering. I would not order this version of the Miso Honey again. The flavor profile skewed a bit too salty for my tastes. I suspect they're mixing ingredients on the spot for that sauce. I wonder if sometimes the sauce has more honey. I think that would have added some balance. In any event, it tasted great with the slightly sweet Ranch. I've seen enough that I'm definitely returning to explore more flavors. The black garlic parm sounds very intriguing. I'll also have to try a Buffalo sauce, because that's a baseline for judging wings for me. I've had Yuengling many times. This one tasted super fresh. The carbonation level was perfect. They had a decent craft beer selection as well, but they weren't part of the $10 deal. 4.5 Stars. I recommend Salty Dog for wings and sports watching.

Food was very good! We ordered nachos with beef and the cheese sauce is like a queso. It's on the sweet side but I liked it. Then we ordered salt and vinegar pork belly bites. We requested extra crispy and those were a little salty but the texture was great. The we ordered the sampler wings: hickory BBq, black garlic parm and the pineapple habañero. The wings were cooked nicely I want more! I want to go back to try the rest of the food. I ordered a regular mule and it tasted like water :( Overall, I would come back and get a different drink.

Our travels took us to The Groggy Frog and we were thrilled we took the hour drive in the snow. Service: Prompt, Authentic, Laid Back - no corporate pieces of flare (thank goodness). Atmosphere: you had me at hello. Dive bar, watering hole, where everyone goes vibe. Small. Unique. They definitely do not make them like this anymore. Great music and bar noise. Rustic wood. High tops all around. Fantastic. The wings: so far the best hidden gem we have found. Way better than others in Southington I have previously visited and reviewed. Tons of flavors. They also offer wings in 5's, so, if you're like us and want to try a few sauces - you're in a great position until you find your go-to's. We ordered: hot buffalo, buffalo blue, chipotle honey horseradish, teriyaki wasabi, and an order of their fried shrimp tossed in hot buffalo. All hot, crispy, excellent. While all the sauces were good, the hot buffalo and chipotle honey horseradish make the cut for our next visit. We can't wait to be back and try 3-4 other sauces with the 2 we've fallen in love with. Note: I love the blue cheese dressing at places as much as the wings. I have noticed the wing places in Southington serve a thicker (almost spreadable) homemade blue cheese. It was excellent. But because of its thickness, we went through a lot. And, as you may read in my other reviews, I hate the 2oz soufflé cups in a wing place. 4oz minimum please. Only thing I've learned to do better next time - ask for tons of extra napkins. I prefer when they're either stored on the table, or better, have paper towel rolls on the tables at the elite wing joints.
