Brewery #404 Back Pew gave me PTSD upon walking up as I had flashbacks of being dropped off to vacation bible school as a kid. My Southern Baptist upbringing me made me feel like I was about to commit a sin by drinking beer in church. Anyway, I went in wanting to get a flight. No flights. Boooooo! I don't understand breweries that do this. Let us pay to try your beer without us getting schmangeled. So, I just ordered a Hopzuna hazy and went outside. The outdoor area was very large, with tons of picnic tables, lots of greenery, and a playground for the kids. The place was packed with families and kids running around. It's hard for me to rate this place since I wasn't able to try but 1 beer. The 1 beer I had was very good though. The inside kind of creeped me out but the back yard area was chill. Start following Brewery commandment #1 "Thou Shalt offer flights" and I will probably up this review a star. read more

This was our first time here and we really enjoyed the live music and outdoor seating. Sits on quite a large plot of land. You go through the Sanctuary and you will find actual pews and icons of Saints who have ties with Beer. Games and Activities happening with adults and kids alike. Beer was solid and service was quick. Only drawback for us is my wife and I enjoy sitting at the bar and they have no bar-top seating but I can see that with the crowds they have and two people serving the lines how that may prove difficult. All in all an enjoyable experience and we will definitely return in the future. read more

Everything about this spot was wonderful! They have a token system so getting beers is easy and you don't have to bother with your wallet each time you want another round. They also have several gluten-free brews, which my dad (who has Celiac's) was very happy about! The employees were all super friendly and helpful as well. The only thing I would change was the AC. It was a hot day and the air conditioning just couldn't keep up. But the cold beers and water station helped! read more

It's a great place to bring kids with you, they don't have food indoors but they have a good food truck outside. Service is good but they don't offer beer samples which I thought it's a good idea before we make our decision of what to drink, I hate to be stuck drinking something I don't like, the ambiance it's great, I love the fact that you feel you are going to church, they definitely work hard on having a good concept. My favorite beer was Lucy I guess I got lucky likening the beer I choose but i would have appreciated if he could allow me to tasted it first . You just gotta love this place. Where else can you bring the entire family including the pets and have 11 acres of space to spread out. Today there was 2 band and a good truck. But we brought our nibbles as a picnic lunch. It's also perfect for us, close to home. If you're looking for a family/pet friendly place this is your place! We have been here several times with our toddler. There is a play ground for this kids and a huge amount of running around for the kids. They have different food trucks and sometimes they have fun things going on. We come when they have different vendors set up. The food truck I've ordered from did not disappoint! Which were refill station pizza and Tejas Chocolate bbq. 75 miles away and we'll worth it. I've had the brews before but the husband had not. Seven "Saints" beers and four "Sinners" plus two bottled--Canto I and Canto II, available for purchase at $10 each. The husband tried the pilsner and was pleased. I am delighted to find a schwarzbier and black IPA that are fantastic. (Take that, Karbach!) They use a token system with 9 or 16 oz glassware; with and without a coozie. Inner room is VERY loud (and I came with a migraine.). There's 14 acres of land out back. They have a food truck and live music. Children are welcome and they provide a cooler of sodas for $1. I'm always down for a new Houston brewery experience, so I was excited to check out Back Pew this past weekend. While my preference is sours, and Back Pew had none on tap, I really enjoyed the variety. Blue Testament (pilsner) and Sweet Salvation (brown ale) did not disappoint, and on the more experimental side, Canto II offered a bourbon-aged porter with liquour. Very impressed with the assortment. As Back Pew's tap room just opened, they're off to a great start, with a wide open lawn and live music. Hopefully as they grow, they can get some additional tables installed and outdoor restrooms added. read more

Like this spot on a comfortable (temperature wise) Saturday afternoon to enjoy their brews and live music. You can choose to sit indoors, on their outdoor patio or bring your own chairs to sit in the grass/shade. Food truck(s) are usually on site and pretty good. Keep an eye out for fire ants if you sit in the grassy areas. Have left with a few bites while listening to music. Unfortunately around here they are everywhere so no fault of the establishment and the beer tempers the itch...at least until the next day!! read more

Great place to hang out with friends. I went during the Summer Concert Series and the band was entertaining. The beers I tried were Sweet Salvation- light beer despite the color, malty and sweet, Blue Testament- lighter beer, very easy to like, refreshing, Canto2- dark, milky and hints of coconut. All were very good and definitely save Canto2 for last because it's the best!!! It is a little different because you purchase "chips" for your beers but I'll let them explain that. First time there and you're like "huh???" But it works out. A church used to be there then the brewery purchased it hence the name Back Pew. The seating area is called The Sanctuary. So, the owner is connected with Little Harpeth Brewing Co from Nashville. When I first graduated college, I spent a few years in Nashville and they had an exploding brewery scene. Little Harpeth was one of those. My first visit to Back Pew and I could tell I would really like this place. They have two "categories" of beer: Saints and Sinners. The Saint beers are all "low" ABV (everything they had when I was there was over 5.0%) and the Sinner beers were all the higher ABV (the highest being the Act of Balor at 10.2%). You get a pint glass and three tokens (two Saints and one Sinner) for $12. You can also elect to get a 9oz glass with four tokens (two Saints and two Sinners) for $12 instead. Both the tokens and the tap handles are color codded for the Saints and Sinners beers. I got the pint glass because I collect them. I used just two of the three tokens. I tried the Sweet Salvation brown ale and it was solid. Sweet and nutty. I also had the Act of Balor Irish sweet milk stout and it was pretty fantastic. Had a very rich and creamy flavor to it. This place is definitely on to making some killer beers and I really appreciate the holy religion theme since they are set up in the back of an old church. I saved my one token for a return trip even though I live in Houston Heights with plenty of brewery options. They also had a Filipino burger food truck. No A/C, but fans for cooling, grass parking lot, plenty of seating and outdoor area with large Jenga. Not the most fun-packed brewery experience, but these guys are just starting up and they brew fantastic beer. I am excited to visit again and try some more of their stuff. They are only open from noon - 5 pm on Saturdays so plan ahead. read more

We wanted to visit a brewery, and this was going to be the closest one. We were pleasantly surprised by the affordability - $9 got us four tokens, which meant four 9-oz pours. By far the best deal on the table. The brews were in two categories - Saints and Sinners. White tokens are for Saints, the lighter beers, and black ones are for the Sinners, or darker and heavier beers. To my dismay, the heavier beers and the Ryesurrection were all heavy, syrupy, and definitely not what I wanted. The American Pils, however, was pretty good, and I am not one for American pilsners. It might have been the heat, but I don't know why the other three beers I had were just not doing it for us. I think the consensus was, "Bad Mouth Feel," which translates to heavy, sticky, and not as carbonated. There is a Vietnamese food truck on premise, and like the crazy person I am, I got the smoked chicken pho, which was interesting, and not quite what I was hoping for. The banh mi was ok, but pretty light on the meat, so it was mostly bread and lettuce. The pulled pork looked good, but was standard and nothing terribly special, but when you're hungry, just about anything will do. It wasn't a bad way to spend a day, by any means, but with lots of other breweries in the area, I'd try a different one next time. read more

We've been coming here since the opened just a few years ago. It's been awesome to see them grow to where they are today. The staff and volunteers are incredibly friendly and always give a warm welcome to my family. They're especially sweet to our daughter. The beer is solid and they're always trying to improve and testing out new recipes. Some of our favorites are Hopostle IPA, Evildoer Pale Ale, & Blue Testament Pilsner. They often have food trucks and they allow you to bring your own food. The outside space is huge and it never feels crowded even when the place is packed. read more

If you are looking for a fun weekend afternoon place for the family and you like beer, then you really can't go wrong with Back Pew Brewing. They are hidden on Sorters Road, between Kingwood Dr and North Park. Back Pew is a fun place to visit. It is very family friendly and even pet friendly. Craft brewing can get very pretentious very quickly. Fans of craft beer are called beer snobs for a reason. But at this place, it is simply not the case. Back Pew is a very approachable from the view of regular beer drinkers and beer snobs alike. The variety is fantastic and divided between their Saint line of lighter beers and their Sinners line of heavier, stronger beers. They also make some limited brews available. They don't serve food, but always have a food truck on site to feed you. You can also bring your own food. There is a stage for a band and covered tables out in the huge back yard. You are encouraged to bring your own chairs and pop up tents so you can relax outside. There are some corn hole boards there too. My four year old twins ran around like crazy and burned off some serious energy. Parking is plentiful too. My favorite part is the feeling of family that Back Pew offers. Much of the staff at Back Pew is the family of the owner. The other staff feel like extended family. They are knowledgeable of their product and can point you in the right direction. The only cons are a bit picky. The taproom is new and beautiful, but it is lacking in fabrics and can get quite noisy. Some pictures, drapes, tapestry would really soften things up. The tables are just plastic picnic tables. But, the latter point really doesn't detract from the enjoyment. There are two bathrooms, both equipped with changing tables. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. Local, craft beer. Costs $9-15 or so for a glass and 3-4 tokens for beers (depending on which size you get). Food trucks out back are always good! Would love a little more variety but if that's my only complaint I'll get over it. The owner is on site every Saturday chatting with guests. I don't even like beer and I like these! I came to check out the new brewery, have a beer or 2, and eat. I just think it's better to build clientele first and then profit. Not well thought out plan. At least 2 beers to make it feel worth it. Otherwise it's essentially a $20 beer and a first impression. Total cost $30 for 1 mug*, 1 beer +tip, and a small gyro +tip. Can't afford to come back. Next time, I'll call first and check. Look at it this way: A group of 15+ thirsty and hungry hikers. Went there 8/5/2017. Paid for a glass that comes with 2 tokens for lower alcohol brews & 1 token token for higher ABV. The beer wasn't bad although I only had 2 beers and dumped both of them after a few drinks. No tap room, just a roped off section of the brew warehouse with a big box fan for circulation. Employees are cordial and the place isn't dirty. Outside in back is more seating under cover & food was available from a food truck. All the beers are have names implying connection with the Bible or religion. read more

The wife and I went to the brewery and as soon as my wife step to the bar the bartender told her we don't have any Dos xx here. I have know idea if the guy was trying joke but found it very offensive due to the fact the wife is Hispanic. I love the beer not so much some of the staff. Been here many of times never had an issue like this before. Hope this was a singular event. read more
