It had home cooked stick to to your ribs food at every meal ... it had a plethora of historic memorabilia peppered through out the whole building ... inside and out ... it had nostalgia and at night the string lights that were hung ( which was way before its time like now ) gave off such ambiance that it would make any married couple new or novice want to be in simpler times ...... there was horse shoes outside for friendly competition .... An old historic wagon for perfect picture opportunities ... domino table with antique dominoes that I'm sure if they could talk would tell the stories of all who have visited ...there was a card table with decks of cards ready to be shuffled and spent out to those who knew the game of chance or maybe even some under the table exchanging of pocket change .... The whole experience was one of a kind ... memories were made that will play over and over in my head as long as I am walking on this earth .... ... mostly of my first born son that had the time of his life ( as he is no longer with us ) so blessed I have those memories !! What I am saying is if you have a family reunion or any family get together that you want to spend true quality time with and not spend an arm and a leg on over commercialized entertainment PLEASE consider taking a bite out of some of Texas histories first built hotels ...like the one in a long forgotten small town called Turkey Texas .... What you make of memories in time ..in a place that will stand still even if it is only for a while ....your heart will be full , your family will become closer and the rush of all the chaos in daily life will disappear and you will be so thankful that places like this really do still exist . Very good food and excellent coffee. Our room had a Keurig - nice touch. The room we were in had a door to the street. That was very nice for us to walk our dogs. I would highly recommend this B&B.

Located on the city square, Walking G Guesthouse has been renovated to reflect the changes of the 21st century while appreciating the rustic traditions of the past. In 2018, Matt and Mandy Gfeller saw the potential in this historic building, and they have worked to bring this potential into a reality. The Walking G Guesthouse is a three-room, full-service boutique hotel that offers its guests comfortable lodging, warm hospitality, and a delicious breakfast. What the small town of Dimmitt lacks in size, it more than makes up for with its charisma and sense of community. We are thrilled to invite you to share our little piece of history. The Walking G is excited to add The Walking G at the Maverick as our newest property. The Walking G at the Maverick was built in 1929 as the Witt Hotel and White Rose Cafe. Later on, the Rawlins family took over and changed the name to the Rawlins hotel--rumor has it that they even added a speakeasy during prohibition . Originally a 30-room hotel, the building is now a residential facility accommodating short and long term residents. It is located 1 block east of the Walking G Guesthouse 103 NE 2nd Street.

We had originally booked the…read moreBluebonnet Room, but as it was a very quiet week, we got upgraded to the O'Keefe Room which was wonderful. The house is beautiful, the rooms were very clean, and the porch is just lovely with lots of seating. I loved the towels (nice and fluffy), the bed was really comfortable, and the home cooked breakfast was amazing. This is not a buffet of pre-cooked items - there is a menu posted on a blackboard, and you can choose from various egg dishes, french toast, etc., including a yogurt parfait with granola they make themselves (which was wonderful). And the coffee is awesome! The location is also great, it is an easy walk (about a quarter mile) to the center of town. The O'Keefe room specifically: large room, king size bed, a ceiling fan (which I loved having), a little table and two comfortable chairs, which was nice for relaxing, and a *huge* bathroom. There are a few things to note (for which I would probably take off half a star if yelp allowed that). - The wifi is pretty slow at times. We didn't have any trouble streaming video, but on and off as we were using our tablets for other things, we would run into issues. - The water pressure is terrible in the shower. That might just be because the house is so old, but it seems like there must be something they can do to increase the pressure at least a little. - The tv's are too small. I get most people probably don't go there to watch TV, but after a long day hiking in the canyon we needed to relax. Our room probably had the biggest TV of all (which isn't saying much) - I looked into the other rooms and they were about the size of a computer monitor. But, those were minor inconveniences, compared to staying in a wonderful, clean house with the perfect location. If and when we get back to Canyon, we would definitely stay there again.
