On the last day of this store being open, closing Tuesday 12-30-25 and liquidating inventory including the $57.50 Shaun White book which was reduced to only $5 Granted I looked on eBay in the secondary collector's market and it could be found for $15-25 used and new... but it's like over 90% off the original cover retail price! I wager a reseller could have negotiated to buy the remaining inventory for even less to make a profit. Parking at the Grove and Farmer's Market is horrendous to the degree that their policy, validation and rates they charge customers to shop there is very counterintuitive to supporting their retailers to generate foot traffic and business. I wonder if the shopping center's mismanagement was cause of the Backcountry downfall to close this store and liquidate inventory and sell fixtures. The shopping center's parking system is disingenuous to supporting retailers and customers. You park, you eat, you shop and buy, hang out for maybe 2-3 hours, spend money and even with a merchant parking validation you pay $17 to park and support the center's businesses. read more

I love online shopping at this store for all of my winter wear and have purchased many a "Winter-on-the-Go" pants. I have brought them out early with the Northern Nevada cols temperatures and am grateful that they keep me warm and toasty. My recent purchase was for my son and his partner for their Christmas present and I know they are eyeballing ski bags for an upcoming trip. When I asked to return them, New agent Arturo was totally unpleasant, gave me a hard time. Asked to speak with a supervisor. Again, Arturo was difficult. I will NEVER buy from Backcountry again. Just got out of this store and what a breath of fresh air it was to leave. Most people were nice, the greeter at the front very nice. Then you get to the checkout and what a sloth they had there ( girl with knots in her hair). So put out to help a customer, why have someone so not into having to be nice, is sloth customer service the new vogue. She seemed miserable, until wait! She got on her phone, then a peaceful warmth encircled her face. Then it was ruined when a manager had the gaul to come up to the register. The site was simple and there weren't enough interior pictures of the waist pack I wanted. However, after getting one from another site that was too small and returning it, I tried this one. True, the pack was bigger, but it was still a bit too small. I tried using it twice for small trips, but it was too hard getting things out of the bag. When I tried to get a refund for an as-new product, they refused. They said they'd only give store credit. With nothing else I need right now, and with horrible customer service, why would I trust them to buy anything else? It wasn't too expensive, so I'll write off the cost and buy something elsewhere. I visited the Backcountry Store in Los Angeles. I had been thinking about buying a bike for quite sometime. But I was not expecting the quality of bikes in the store. Better yet was the quality of service that I received. Chito, who runs the bike department, spent quite sometime with me explaining the differences between the models and answering all my questions. When it came to fitting the bikes that I wanted to try, he went all out. And when I finally narrowed it down to the one bike, he made sure it was properly fitted to my body. I've been riding a long time and this was some of the best service I ever received. My girlfriend was so impressed that she ended up getting a bike too. I see from others that I am not the only one who had a bad experience. I recently went in for the second time to pick up something I saw when I first checked the store out. The store wasn't busy at all. As I approached the register downstairs, a person who seemed to be a manager just finished with a customer. I waited and didn't approach the desk as it seemed like he was pre-occupied, but he waved me over. He did not greet me, did not look at or speak to me for the entire transaction -- instead looking over his shoulder to another employee and scolding them for not moving fast enough. When he finished ringing me up, he handed the bag to me while still scolding the other employee and missed the handoff completely. As I walked out of the store, the manager followed the staff person to the front of the store where they were supposed to be greeting people and continued to have an inappropriate discussion in range of every customer that walked by or in and out of the store. It was awkward and I am sure incredibly embarrassing for the employee, even if they indeed needed to step up their game. It was inappropriate on the part of the manager -- not to mention the fact that they ignored me for the entire duration of our encounter. I'm less worried about being greeted as I walk into the store (as they seemed to be harping on) than I am with at least acknowledging me as someone standing in front of you and giving you my money at the checkout counter. The store has some great stuff but I'm not interested in supporting a store where management treats the staff this way. read more

Decided to check out this place yesterday while I was doing some Christmas shopping at the grove. I am a snowboarder and just thought I'd pop inside to see what they have. When I walked in I felt immediately unwelcome. There was a tall Caucasian man who appeared to be the manager fixing the clothing display near the entrance. He just looked me up and down and didn't say a word to me. I lingered around to see if he would greet the Caucasian people coming in behind me, and sure enough he did. He said "hey welcome in guys!" I felt discouraged. For context I am a black woman. This interaction felt discriminatory. I wanted to walk out then and there but I decided to go upstairs to look at the snowboarding gear. When I decided to leave the same man was still up at the front and just looked at me dead in my face as I was leaving. He couldn't even say "bye, thanks for coming in" I was so disappointed leaving the store. The customer service is horrible and in my experience, discriminatory. I'll never come here again. read more

Been eager to visit this store since I always see adds on social media. Went in looking for Slickrock Pants and the two women upstairs do not have a clue what I was asking for and showed me something else. They offered to search but did not return to tell me anything. Another male worker approached me and he could not confirm if they had inventory. He said," if someone is already helping you" and walked away. I passed by the two females who I thought was helping me and they did not even notice me. What a big disappointment. I dont think there was miscommunication. REI FOR THE WIN!!!! read more

The staff were all very polite, answered our questions, and helped us with everything when we visited today. We had an online order that we needed to return due to the wrong size ordered. The greeter was extremely helpful. Salvador and Nathan at the cashier counter quickly processed our web order for a full refund and a confirmation email was sent just as fast. We just needed to show them our Online Order No. One of the employees upstairs helped us to find the correct size for their Women's Cottonwood Ski bib.
