This location impressed me! Connected to the ACX cinema, it was an easy post-movie dinner. I was surprised to see it's much fancier than the Aksarben location, which is more of a sports bar feel. Here is a fancier restaurant vibe. Our waitress was fantastic, she was friendly and came to get our order and check on us quickly and without having to wait long for anything. The inside was cozy and relaxing, we sat in a booth near the back so it was more private and we had a lot of space. We got fries with ranch as a starter. I liked the touch of the sprinkle of salt and pepper on them. The ranch--so good!! Like Runza ranch. Our 13 year old got mozzarella sticks which he was a fan of. My husband and I got the Detroit classic pizza, and it was yummy! A little soggy on the bottom. The marinara on the top was so good. Food for me so far is a 2 out of 3. Boneless Thai peanut wings are amazing! Apple pecan blue cheese salad is fabulous! Buffalo chicken wrap not good. No flavor no sauce. What a surprise this place is! We initially were meeting for drinks and apps, but added on pizza at the end. Happy Hour starts at 3 -- 3 ladies and gentlemen! Great for a day off, retirees, or an EQ. Standard cocktails are discounted, as are house wines. We bought a discounted bottle, Bodan Roan Pinot Noir, which I did not care for, and our server immediately brought me something different to try -- which was very good. My friends liked the other well enough and finished it. I ordered Bleu Buffalo Fries because the idea just made my mouth water. Sadly, it was a heap of skinny fries (not my fave), with just a splash of buffalo sauce. Kind of messy to eat, but not yummy enough to justify tge inconvenience. We hardly made a dent. So, the fries themselves were good, if you like skinny fries, but what should have been the primary draw was a disappointment. Bourbon BBQ wings -- fantastic! Sticky, crunchy, tender, juicy -- all good things. I'd get these again in a heartbeat. Finally, pizza. Detroit pizza with crispy cheesy edges -- you can't go wrong! And half of ours was topped with cupping pepperoni with a just-right crispy edge. Yum. The look of the bar is not at all what you'd expect tacked onto a multi-plex theater, but it's sophisticated, quiet, and servers are helpful and friendly. Staff were suuuper friendly and kind. This place is very welcoming. They have outdoor seating, so it's the perfect place for dinner when the weather is nice. The inside looks very romantic, with dim lighting and flameless candles on every table. I ordered the Korean BBQ fries and they were so good. They had the right amount of sweetness and spice. It's super convenient being in a movie theater, so you can eat before or after your movie. You can either go through the theater doors to get to the restaurant or you can go through the restaurant's own entrance on the side of the building. I will definitely return! read more

I came in for the first time a few weeks ago, and have not shot up about this place ever since! I have used the words ' life changing' over and over to describe my experience here. I had no idea what I was missing out on before my first experience with Detroit style pizza at back lot! I am not a huge pizza connoisseur, which made this even more of a surprise to me as I came in expecting to order something else on the menu. What made this pizza special is the deep dish, crispy cheese on the outside. And the extra amount of sauce piled on the top of the pie. It is, of course, served in a Square rather than a circle, but shape is less of a priority compared to these flavor factors!! This pizza was absolutely perfect with Italian sausage, pepperoni, bacon, red onion, and other toppings. I had it for three meals, and was blown away, even eating it as leftovers! I absolutely cannot wait to come back, although I have never targeted a restaurant for pizza in my life, back lot is in the top of my list. Next time someone asks me where I'd like to eat!! I should mention as well, the service was great also. We actually left our credit card here, and came back to get it a few days later, and they had it in the back for us. The only thing I wish they did different is answer their phones, as I called him about five times in three days with no answer at any point. read more

I've been to Backlot a handful of times. With the disclaimer that we are usually going to a movie after and I'm not the biggest fan of Detroit style pizza. With that being said, the pizza is okay however, the ambience and cocktails are really what makes me return to this place. My husband ordered an Old Fashioned, and I ordered a Raspberries and Cream Martini. It was very good, and had the perfect sweetness. The table of ladies across from me stopped to ask what it was, so it definitely looks beautiful. We got the Bourbon Barbecue Chicken Pizza for dinner. We have eaten here many times and always had good service. Food is consistently good but tonight the food was terrible. The server was ok... but waited over 20 minutes for the focaccia bread not sure if the waiter forgot but blamed it on The kitchen. Waited a very long time for cold and over cooked salmon. The mashed potatoes were cold then they brought me very hot mashed potatoes I am guessing were microwaved. They did give my daughter 15 in arcade cards.... read more

I've been here a few times and overall it's pretty good. The interior is nice- darker in some areas than other but tastefully designed. The menu isn't terribly vast, however, they have some good appetizers at a decent price during happy hour. I've been here 3 times and service all 3 times has been good to good/great. Servers are attentive but not overbearing. The food seems to be the most OK thing of the whole experience. Good, but not mind blowing. Pizza was flavorful (could've used a tad more sauce) however just really heavy and greasy. Which, in all fairness, was expected. The food is just probably not my favorite type and that's no fault of backlot. Love that it's attached to ACX because it's super convenient to hit a movie afterwards. When I left on my most recent visit, the chef had indicated they were trying to level up their menu. I'll certainly be back to try it out again when that happens! read more

She got our order in right away, our drinks were served shortly after we ordered, and she checked on us to make sure everything was okay. Our food was hot, and delicious. My son's baseball game ran later than expected, so my family was trying to find a place to eat where we could sit down, catch our breath, fill our bellies, and cool down It was a difficult task trying to find a restaurant that served food after 9PM, but a google search showed us that Backlot was nearby, and still open so we headed there When we got there we were informed that they were serving the "after 9" menu which was just pizza, wings, and fries (and a full bar). That was okay with us, since we were mainly there for pizza. We were seated right away, and I ordered a margarita and my husband got a beer. For food we ordered the uptown (Prosciutto, arugula, goat cheese, balsamic reduction), and the bourbon Barbeque chicken. Both were delicious, and I'd absolutely order both again. The pizza is Detroit style so it has a thick delicious pan crust. The waiter didn't seem super familiar with the menu, but he was very nice and when he wasn't sure about something he checked on it for us. Backlot can be a little pricy, but the appetizers and pizza are always good. We went during happy hour which got us discounts on drinks and food. I highly recommend going this route. Only minor gripe was they seemed to be short staffed and it took a long time to get service. We ordered during happy hour, but our bill didn't reflect that. The manager did correct this for us. GF and Vegan cheese options! This is my go to place when I'm craving Pizza. I limit my Dairy so having a Dairy free pizza is a must and this place delivers. The Combo with Vegan cheese is amazing. I'm also a bit of a whiskey connoisseur and they have a fantastic selection for reasonable prices. The restaurant is attached to a movie theater but don't let that make you think it's a "low end" place. I can't stress enough that this "feels" much more expensive than it is based on the quality of the food and the dine in experience. They have live music on the weekends in a smaller area that connects the restaurant to the theater. The restaurant and bar never seem to be too crowded/busy when I've been here, even though it looks like it is from outside. I think this will change as the area around it develops. My only real negative is that I have small children and several times when we have been here for lunch on the weekend the background music that is on has had the F-word and several other curse words in the music. Wish they would address that. read more

Went to backlot for a friends birthday dinner, we had made reservations about a month in advance for outside patio seating for 30 people and had been in communication with the restaurant even up until the week of the event and was told things were good to go. Prior to the dinner reservation we were watching a movie at the attached theater and received two separate text exchanges from two different numbers for the restaurant. One to explain that we would have to be seated separately on the patio and a second to confirm that we were on the way, both of which we responded to. When we arrived at the restaurant we were told that they had given up our table because we did not answer their phone calls (none of which we received) or answered their texts to confirm (which as stated above we did multiple times). We were extremely frustrated with the lack of communication between who were directly communicating with before hand and the people at the front desk. The front desk individuals kept saying we didn't respond and kept repeating that "they can't hold tables for longer than 10 minutes without confirmation" despite showing them that we did in fact respond, repeating that statement over and over was not helpful. We never received a verbal apology for the miscommunication but thankfully they were able to squeeze our group into some lounge seating on the patio and gave us some extra tables. Additionally we were handed a gift card and movie ticket vouchers from someone, though again someone from management never came over to speak to us or apologize for whatever miscommunication occurred which would have been appreciated. Overall our server was great and accommodated our group well and we did enjoy our food. The pizza was a hefty serving and delicious and I especially enjoy the way they put sauce on the top. I also ordered a side of garlic Parmesan fries and did not realize the the garlic Parmesan was a sauce they poured over the fries. It was good but did get soggy quickly. Squarely in the middle of thee and four stars for us, but rounding up because the issues are mostly specific to our household. Takeout on a Saturday night was easy and well-marked. Competitors had two-hour waits for takeout and Backlot was ready on the spot. The Detroit style pizza was very good. We ordered two, one pepperoni and one cheese for the kids. This is not a kid-friendly pizza. Too much cheese, sauce on the outside, well-done crust -- not popular with the post-toddler set. But this is not a review for six-year-olds, so the complaints above are not significant. The main issue was pizza size, which appears to be fixed at Backlot. One pizza is not enough to feed two adults, but two pizzas are $24 before tax and tip which is more than we want to spend on pizza. Return unlikely to be soon for that reason. But the pizza is yummy, so try it out and it may be just the thing for you. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews and I try and work it out with the location prior to posting. I have tried to call and leave several messages and no one answers or responds back. Friday last week we placed an order for pizza and wings for our movie. After 50 minutes I went to check on it and no one realized it we didn't get our order. They said well your pizza is up there but you picked up the wings. I'm like nope don't have either. They said let's make your wings and I waited missing my movie and they said a manager would come talk to me. The guy shoved the wings at me and said be careful they are hot. Took the food back to my seats to feed my starving Husband and I said let me know if the pizza is cold I will take it back. It was cold and I decided to just wait and call this week. I've never left a review for ANY restaurant in my life- so let's approach this review with that context in mind! The first issue we had was waiting 10-15 minutes just for the water coming out. Granted we arrived around 6:30PM, so I didn't mind waiting a little longer for some nice food. The table that we got sat at was like a kids table in kindergarten. The prices of the pizza are alright, but disappointing simultaneously- as the check was $42 before tipping for two small pizzas. There's a $3 up charge for gluten free crust, so good luck if you have a gluten allergy (which is not a choice if you didn't know that!). Additionally, our waitress, Roneeka P, could not be bothered with a couple who wanted a decent night out with decent service. I've worked at restaurants before, have ADHD, and paid more attention to my customers. She must have figured out quickly that we weren't going to be running up the tab for two people, and wanted to pay more attention to those who are running up the tabs. Bummer. Not to mention, when we asked for boxes, she took our plates to box them for us, she threw away part of our pizza, that we just paid $42 for! If you're going to give a facade of "going above and beyond" then you should probably ask some more questions instead of clearly just not caring. All in all, Roneeka, it may be a good idea to put in some applications, as this probably isn't it for you. This is the first & last time we will be dining in this overpriced restaurant. So a place far out from the city but a nice find. Plus an add on that it has a movie hall attached to it so you can plan your whole day outing with your family. We chose to sit in the bar area and enjoyed the atmosphere, food and top notch service. With everything I have read and heard I wanted desperately to give this a 5-star rating. My hopes were HIGH! Loved the music, location, design and comfort of the dining room. Our waitress was attentive enough even though we were the only 2 people in the dining room at the time. The food took too long in my opinion with only us at a table-another table of 2 came in midway through our meal. Iced tea was awesome!! Appetizer of the hot fries was ok. Portion was huge and the Fries were perfectly crisp, but the sauce was too heavy and got a bit overbearing. Salads (Cesear and house) were both a 10 on the scale above. The dressings were on point and the lettuces and toppings very fresh. Buffalo chicken pizza--The crust was thick but light and tender to eat. There didn't seem to have any sauce at the base of it under the bland chicken. We ordered with buffalo sauce on the side which was smart after the appetizer but maybe our mistake? When the food came the buns were burned and the burger was a hockey puck. When we got our bill the burgers were $18 a piece. More expensive than the ones in the menu. Won't eat here again. read more
